Whataboutbob_cat's 9th (and season finale) Weekly-ish Funtime Basketball Related Update: Sports Memorabilia
I actually thought the 8th update would be the last because I ran out of ideas. But lo and behold, here is the 9th edition!
Before we delve into this final update of the offseason, I must give credit for the inspiration to this post to the folks over at Bobcats Planet. I know there's been some rough feelings between the two sites but I hold very few grudges (exceptions: Shinnnnn!!!!! and Bennnnettttttt!!!!) so... whatever.
Also, I felt this was needed, as maybe like some of you, I have a short attention span and debating Aaron Brooks or Chauncey Billups, among other things, was getting a little tiresome. So, I figured we needed something a little more light-hearted.

ROF Fantasy Football Update and My Opinion about the Team
the league is now full, and for those of you in it (the few of you), the draft is going to be this SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 4th at 8:00 EST.
i'm looking forward to having a great season, and i would love to see a future ROF fantasy football league that has like, 20 people. but that will be up to time.
lets all have fun, and, for the sake of this 75 word rule, maybe some more of this post will be about basketball after all...
The Kwame Brown Thing: initially, i really didnt like this move. at all. Kwame is one of the worst players that i've ever seen in the NBA. and that's all that i think LB expects. i think he realizes that a the minimum, getting somebody of Kwame's size is a steal (as opposed to Diop at his monster contract like somebody said once before). i cant see how we would use him for anything that isnt foul related.
The Non-CP3 Thing: sorta like having female "friends with benefits". somebody is always going to catch feelings, and in our case, that was us. we caught feelings and, quite frankly, New Orleans just didnt feel the same.
The Melo Frontier: there's no doubt in my mind that he's somewhere else by next year, and i do feel as though the biggest question is where. i can only see Denver giving him up if they hold a king's ransom on some poor team (for example, us sending both Geralds, DJ, and some picks), and my gut feeling is that he sticks it out in Denver this year before bolting.
Michael Jordan: so far, i feel as though he's done a great job at running the organization. maybe we aren't top contenders in the neo-east, but for a team that has had as much struggle as the Bobcats, he's doing a fantastic job at nursing a phoenix. i cant wait to see what this team looks like in 3 years. i feel as though Hendo and Derrick Brown will be steals, and yes, even though this Eric Dampiere thing didnt work out (and i wish we still had Chandler), it will be a money saving move.
Potential Trades and Team Outlook: unless we get a deal where we can send Boris, DJ, Dampiere, or Matthew Carroll (in any combination), and get a solid, starter quality PG in return, i dont see a nice trade happening. not because of the money, but because outside of those 4 players, we have nothing else to offer. Boris, DJ, and Damp all offer financial flexibility to any team, and i think we could tag Carroll on to a trade involving any of them. sure, we could offer Gerald or Jax, but why would we really want to? as far as this season goes for us, i'll say that we wind up fighting for the 8th seed in this east. to me, there's a lot of teams that stand out to me as dark-horses (Milwaukee, New York, New Jersey), and i find myself questioning if the 'Cats have the talent. lets hope so
Thanks!

Fellow Bobcats Fans
While we anxiously await the start of the NBA season, we all wonder who will become the next Charlotte Bobcat, or better yet...
Where do you think Melo will go?
Ok so I have been looking around on other sites to see what they would give up to get Melo, I saw a post like this a while back (when CP3 fiasco was going about) and I thought I would make one for Melo. Ive Included almost all of the teams that has ever been talked about to be in the racing for Melo. I would like for you guys to post who you think Melo will go to and your trade scenario's. Also i think Cash Considerations would be involved in almost all of these trades. Please let me know if I left any teams out, I will go back and edit to include them. Thanks!
BTW: I know there are alot of posts already about Melo on here, just figured I'd change it up and instead of seeing what we would give for him see what other teams would give.
So where does Carmelo really rate?
Nets fans have also been debating the merits of a Carmelo Anthony trade, too. This article from SB Nation sister site Nets Daily attempts to determine where Carmelo rates in the pantheon of NBA stars using the advanced stat, WARP. It also provides a strong rebuttal to our friend John Hollinger's PER.
If you prefer to believe Melo is a "superstar" who would take the Bobcats to the "next level," then you probably shouldn't read this. But if you still want to argue that position, please answer the writer's simple, direct question "why do the stats do right by all the other superstars, but not Melo?"
My position has been clear. Anthony is highly overrated due to his offensive inefficiency and weak defense. Signing him to a max contract will be a regretable decision for some foolish team that will end up weighted down by his contract and attitude for years to come. Giving up Gerald Wallace for the right to make that bad decision should be out of the question.

everybody but mike read about billups, does not mean we are definately getting him
Could Billups be traded, too?
9:38AM ET Chauncey Billups | Nuggets
UPDATE: We checked in with ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher about some potential landing spots for Billups if Denver also decides to trade him.
We've attached that commentary to the bottom of this update.
---
Carmelo Anthony wants out. The Nuggets want J.R. Smith out. And Kenyon Martin, entering the final year of his lucrative contract, is out while he recovers from knee surgery. In addition, Chris Andersen is expected to miss the beginning of the regular season, too, after offseason surgery.
ESPN.com's John Hollinger made a good point Thursday via his Twitter page regarding Chauncey Billups' future with the Nuggets.
Hollinger tweeted: "Remember, if the Nuggets trade Melo and rebuild, there's really no point in them keeping Billups either. Could be two All-Stars on market."
Billups is from Denver and welcomed the opportunity to play in front of family and friends, but he may seek a trade to a playoff contender, or the team may see what the can get for the veteran point guard since they are in a rebuilding-mode.
Billups, who will turn 34 on Sept. 25, has two years remaining on his contract. He'll make $13.15 million for 2010-11 and $14.2 million for 2011-12, but only $3.7 million of that is guaranteed.
Any teams needing a point guard and who think they can challenge for the NBA title this season should contact the Nuggets.
Billups' leadership could help a number of teams
"Charlotte is in desperate need of a starting point guard and could offer cap relief, a seemingly attractive thing if Denver is starting over. If Golden State is looking to change its lackadaisical culture, Billups could help there, too. The Kings, Nets, Clippers and Grizzlies are relatively young teams that could benefit from his presence, too. But if Billups' dream scenario of riding into the sunset chasing another ring in his hometown has gone poof, the least he'd want is the chance to still chase a ring elsewhere. Teams that would keep the dream alive and have assets to send back are the Rockets, Magic and Hawks."
Michael Jordan Continues His Great First Year as Bobcats Owner
In addition to being part of the Charlotte Bobcats' first season of post-season play, Michael Jordan continues to make progress in his quest to be a successful owner of the team. In his latest and perhaps my favorite move, Jordan took to making a generous public donation to CMS athletics programs.
More after the jump.

The Great Point Guard Debate
I think we're all in agreement that the PG position scares us the most right now. So what are we going to do about it?
I know we have talked about Calderon and Brooks but are there any other trade possibilities out there?
I read an article earlier this week (and I can't find it now, will post if I do) where an NBA Insider was saying the Bobcats were really high on Livingston and expected him to be the PG on opening day. He didn't think the Cats were going to make a move. Is that a bright idea?
Can Augustin get it together? Can Collins make any contributions?
Bobcats On Melo's Short List
Well if this doesn't make it official I don't know what does. So the question is now; what would you guys give up and and how do you think we stack up against other teams in terms of young talent and expiring contracts. Maybe immediate talent if Gerald Wallace is involved. Would you trade away our fan favorite? So many questions so many possible answers. Lets hear your guys best.
