Charlotte Bobcats at Minnesota Timberwolves game preview

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist? Yeah, he's not playing yet. - Ronald Martinez

The Bobcats head to Minneapolis to take on a potentially vulnerable Timberwolves team tonight. Can they repeat their victory from last season?

Believe it or not, tonight might be the game the Bobcats have been waiting for. After an incredibly difficult eight-game stretch where they've won just two, the hometown team heads to Minneapolis to play the Timberwolves. Wait. I know what you're thinking, "How is this a good thing?!" Just bear with me for a moment.

Historically, this matchup has gone to the Bobcats, boasting a 12-6 all-time record against the Timberwolves. And if you remember back to last year's trip to Minnesota, Kemba Walker broke the spirits of the Target Center semi-faithful with a buzzer-beating stepback jumper at the elbow. Beautiful.

No, the Bobcats don't have a Kevin Love, but they have timing. Charlotte rolls in desperately in need of some momentum as Minnesota is looking to collect themselves after their postgame debacle against the Suns. Seriously, not only did they lose a stomach punch of a game, but they went at each other afterwards. Consequently, if the Timberwolves have been unable to move on past the Phoenix game then the Bobcats and their pesky defense could have the opportunity to further frustrate them.

The matchups that will be most interesting to watch will be Al Jefferson versus Nikola Pekovic. There you have the finesse of Jefferson's post-game versus the power game of Pekovic. Additionally, Kemba Walker versus Ricky Rubio should be interesting, as well as how the Bobcats will stifle the outside shooting of Kevin Martin and Chase Budinger.

Tonight is also a big game for me because this is the first regular season Bobcats game I get to work since I'm not counting summer league. I'm pretty sure I'm more excited than anyone. Game tips at 8pm EST.
