Cody Zeller and Jeff Taylor named to All-NBA Summer League team

USA TODAY Sports

Though the Bobcats fell to the Warriors in the semifinals of the tournament play, Jeff Taylor and Cody Zeller stood out enough to receive honors on the All-NBA Summer League team.

Taylor burst onto the scene without missing a beat, as you might expect from a second-year player at the age of 24. He started with a 24-point performance in a loss to the Spurs and finished averaging 20 points per game on 47.5 percent shooting and nearly two steals a game. Taylor was a ball of energy on either side of the ball, pushing the ball in transition for electrifying dunks, spotting up for threes and acting as a ball-hawk in passing lanes.

Zeller didn't quite come out guns a'blazing like Taylor did. Zeller didn't look comfortable much in his debut against the Spurs, notching a mere nine points and five rebounds. But in each of the following games, he recorded no fewer than 18 points and 9 rebounds. His offensive versatility impressed many in Vegas with his ability to face up and work in the low post. His long jumper the Bobcats want to see is clearly still in development, however. Regardless, he was efficient and did very well in the Summer League setting, which is a caveat of sorts.

The next thing on the Bobcats' docket is Team USA mini-camp for Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Kemba Walker. It will be broadcast live on NBA TV beginning at 3 p.m. EST.
