I'm off Arthur Jenkins... and I'm on Fire!!!

I love the fact that our organization is willing to go out and solicit top free agent players in the form of Al Jefferson and Monta Ellis. It sounds like a front office trying to put the best product on the floor to compete not only this year but years to come as well. Al Jefferson's abilities to play in the low post are among the elite in the league at his posistion, and any basketball analyst would suggest the same. Monta Ellis is one of the most prolific scorers for his position that the NBA has to offer. Now if we were so fortunate enough as to sign both of these players, I would wear my Charlotte Hornet jersey proudly every day of the year... even in the winter. We've all as Hornet and Bobcat fans sat patiently through seasonal disaster year after year in hopes of fielding a good team. We've watched bottom feeder teams like Washington, New Orleans, etc.. come to "our" home court and trounce all over our dreams. So I'm for ANY type of improvement that would make this team better.

What I don't understand are the ney sayers out there, those prototypical arm chair General Managers. These ACGM's argue over which players best suit our organization and which players are perfect fit. Granted every player don't work well in certain offensive or defensive sets, but when you have been as putrid as this organization have been over the past 6 years what do we have to lose by investing in quality free agents. I hear people saying "We need to build through the draft", haven't we seen how that worked out in the past for the Clippers all of those years, how about Washington, the Pistons, etc... The only way you can build that way is if a Lebron James, Tim Duncan, or (insert your favorite player name here) comes out of the draft. Unfortunately while you're sitting there with your fingers crossed hoping to get that player you end up with Michael Beasley, Stromile Swift, Evan Turner, or if you're lucky you draft Greg Oden #1 overall. Basically building through the draft takes a lot of luck... especially since they've implemented the draft lottery. If you do draft a Lebron James type player in the draft, then you better surround them with quality players so the aspect of losing night in and night out don't start to hinder their game, or they bolt for another winning organization. So I don't see tanking as my claim to fame... "Sorry Andrew Wiggins".

I hear "I don't mind the players, I just don't want to over pay them". Well we've paid Tyrus Thomas 9 million a year for nothing, Diop 7 million for the same, Gordon 12 million, Diaw 9, Jackson 9, need I go on and on, at least Jackson got us to the playoffs. So would I pay for Jefferson (13 million) or Ellis (10 - 11 million)... YES!!! Absolutely!!! With Kemba and Ellis on the floor I'm confident that our back court can score against anyone in the league, With Al and Zeller I feel we can compete in the front court also. "Well the team would have no defense" if the team need more defense then you'd play Taylor and BIZ off the bench along side of Kemba or Ellis... or Al or Zeller. "Ellis shoot too much" ellis couldn't possibly shoot more than Gordon, Walker, Henderson, and Sessions did last season. "We should get cheaper Free Agents" some people say we should take the cheaper route and go after Lopez because he's younger and cheaper... he's cheaper for a reason people... and it's not because he's young.

So what about Gerald Herderson??? What about him??? How much love does he have for charlotte??? he hasn't signed the qualifying offer. We don't need him to jack up as many shots as he did last year, so what about him? We extended him a qualifying offer of $4.5 million ("Well that's not his market value"), NO ONE has knocked on his door to pay him more, we haven't even had to match anyone's offer yet. What does that tell me about Gerald... he has little to no market value at all. He scored more because we were devoid of low post scoring options, even if he did score more efficiently. I love Gerald (Duke fan here) but I can't see him leading Charlotte to an NBA championship. I can see him as part of the team, but part of the team doesn't equal out 6-7 million to me. Some of you may say that Monta Ellis won't carry us to a NBA Championship either but there have been many documented games where Monta Ellis put a team on his back and carried them to victory... Gerald Henderson may have a few but doesn't really give us that capability. Kemba has carried us to wins in his short period than Gerald has, Al has done it plenty of times for the Jazz, playoffs are won with options like that. Now if Zeller and MKG grow to be the #2 overall (should be a good player) and #4 (should be another good player) players we expect them to be then we should have a great team. Sounds like some of you want to have the complete set the #1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 overall before we try making the playoffs.

Players like Jefferson and Ellis are also good bargaining chips which we could trade for draft choices (you Wiggins lovers), or younger players (you Lopez lovers) when the trade deadline come around when teams need that shooter or low postr player to make that playoff run. They'll give us the farm... draft picks, player trades, cash name your price. You have to build a steady reputation of making the play-offs, a winning culture that players feed off and look for that draw to your organization top free agents. I applaud Cho, Higgins, and Jordan for assembling a great coaching staff, and their relentless approach to bringing in high quality free agents.

Stop crying soooo much people about every transaction that's made or possibly made. we're the Bobcats (at least for another season) not the San Antonio spurs that may need just one more player before they win it all. I'm Arthur Jenkins and I'm on FIRE!!!
