Its common knowledge on this board that Dunlap was not a sure fire candidate for a second season. Many of us were growing weary of his rotations, defensive sets, and lack of adjustments throughout games all season long. Quite a few others had decided that since he was a rookie coach he should be owed a second season to prove his worth. While I was one that wanted him to go, I would not have been upset at his staying for a second season if it were to lead to a better coaching prospect at the end of next season. In what seems to be a sudden change of heart by the Bobcats organization though, Dunlap was relieved of his coaching duties and will not return for a second season, per the bobcats official site.
From this point on, I can only imagine who the team could possibly bring in to interview that wasn't already interviewed in the past. In some ways, it feels like this was the plan all along. Will Dunlap be retained as an assistant or go back to the college ranks? Time will tell, of course, but given the small progress we had made towards the end of the season and the player progressions, a move like this puzzles even me.
