The Bobcats rookie forward has been release from the hospital and will now have to begin the steps of the NBA's concussion policy to ensure his safety.

Via the Charlotte Observer, rookie forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist has been released from a Houston hospital and was cleared to fly Sunday, only a day after his concussion during the Bobcats' game against the Rockets.

Kidd-Gilchrist had been knocked unconscious during a fast break in a collision with teammate Jeffery Taylor. Fears of a neck injury or brain damage lingered as he lay motionless on the court for about five minutes before medical staff wheeled him off on a stretcher.

He was immediately taken to a local hospital in Houston where he was diagnosed with a concussion. Further medical tests showed no neck or further brain damage.

Now MKG must fulfill the NBA's requirement of their concussion policy before stepping back onto the court.

The NBA instated this policy a little over a year ago, after a number of players missed time due to concussion-like symptoms. It entails a step-by-step protocol to ensure they're healthy enough to return to NBA competition.

Once the player is free of symptoms, he must complete physical tests of increasing levels of exertion, while making sure the symptoms don't return. These include stationary biking, jogging, agility work, non-contact team drills. It could take several days or weeks.
