Charlotte Bobcats at Boston Celtics preview -- Game 25
Today's Tunes:
"Zero" - Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Game Overview: Though it seemed that this Celtics team was fading into the night at the beginning of the year, they've come on quite strongly as of late. Paul Pierce is still getting it done and scoring pretty well, though not as well as previous years. Rajon Rondo has been here and there fighting injuries, but remains on of the most uniquely good players in the league. Kevin Garnett struggles against his own age to continue to be an effective starter and handles it pretty well. He's been somewhat inconsistent, but should definitely still be considered a great defender and a solid threat on offense. He's not what he used to be, but he's not gone either. Also, Ray Allen is still one of the best jump shooters in the league, especially off of screens.
Key Matchup: Tyrus Thomas vs. Paul Pierce -- I have no clue if the Bobcats will trot out the same lineup as against Phoenix, but if Tyrus is still expected to defend the SF, I think he'll have trouble tonight. Pierce is a crafty sonuvagun and is adept at scoring in the midrange, as well as drawing fouls. I tend to think Pierce can take Thomas off the dribble well enough to score and draw Thomas into foul trouble otherwise.

Playing folks out of position, inconsistent lineups, and questionable substitutions..
all make Silas the great coach he is! Boy, it is SO obvious that the coaching staff is not the biggest problem for this team!
How many losses is it going to take before his Airness steps in to atleast try to do something? He probably will just let this season play out. It would seem to me that since they have the worst record in the league and no hopes of the playoffs, why not try something different? What possibly could another coaching staff do that is any worse then this current group?

Silas is a terrible coach but at least the players like him. but that definitely hasnt translated to giving him effort on the court. they just look unprepared most games
Yup.
Terrible enough to lead four playoff teams.

I think you've made your point
You don’t like Silas. We all know this.
And as has been said before, I don’t think any coach could make this team even remotely good.
You mean...
People make the same arguments over and over? Curious.

Since they have the worst record in the league and no hopes of the playoffs...
Why would a team losing tons of money already willingly give up more?

Last year on February 7....
We beat Boston. Round 2 here we go.
part of me really hopes
we leave boston with either KG or Allen in tow to rent out the rest of this year
remember, after the lockout, contracts are pro-rated so we techincally wouldn’t owe him anywhere near 21 million (kg i mean)
Haha, not likely.
But then again, what would you think about Henderson, DJ, and Tyrus for KG?
Makes sense right?
boston
wants draft picks, cheaper expirings or young players in return for KG/Allen/Pierce
send them Boris, DJ and Tyrus and a second round pick for KG and I’ll be just fine with that
Why?
What purpose would that serve, precisely?

to sell more tickets
there’s no question that teams taht sell-out more games have better home records – maybe simply by having more fan energy we’ll steal a win or two
and to get rid of tyrus’ contract without having to amnesty him
I don't think our front office should make any moves to sell tickets
Isn’t that part of the problem?

but the point is
it doesn’t change anything going into the offseason
kg’s contract would’ve expired at season’s end, same as boris’ and dj’s – and we could’ve shed tyrus’ contract, since i think everyone agrees he’s not worth his pay – or am i wrong about that
i mean, i doubt boston would’ve done that particular trade, unless maybe we did a contract extension sign and trade with dj
just saying, since it looks like only 3 players will be on our roster after 2 seasons, what does it matter if we get rid of them now for someone who will get the fans excited about the rest of this pathetic, abysmal season?
But wouldn't you just feel bad for KG?
I mean he lost his knees somewhere in South Boston a few years ago and then he’d be sent to Charlotte? I’d have to buy him a Zaxby’s milkshake just to feel right about the whole thing.
it'll pale in comparison
when he finds out he’s not even gonna get half of what he makes now in free agency
Would fans really be excited to see an aging 14-7 player on a still-awful team?
I don’t see it.

See: May, Sean and Felton, Ray instead of Chris Paul.

Hello...mediocrity?
"People are gonna respect the Panthers, and I want what I do as a quarterback to be scary. I want people to be in fear. I want it, and I’m gonna get it."
- Carolina Panthers Franchise Quarterback
we're gonna suck regardless
may as well put some butts in the seats doing it
i mean, KG isn’t gonna give us 10 more wins by himself
Yah.
Because putting people in the seats is key to becoming a contender.
"With the third pick of the 2006 NBA Draft, the Charlotte Bobcats select, Adam Morrison, Gonzaga."
tell me how acquiring KG for the rest of the season
for two players who won’t be here next year and one who is hindering out cap future isn’t a good move to becoming a contender?
As long as we don't even consider resigning him I would be fine with it. But I doubt they would.
"With the third pick of the 2006 NBA Draft, the Charlotte Bobcats select, Adam Morrison, Gonzaga."
Because it takes talent we have and gives it up.

you're suggesting
boris and tyrus combined is better than kg
Yes, absolutely.
Garnett is a shell of his former self, and will definitely be gone. Thomas will not.

I just got this crazy idea.
Even if we chose DJ as our starter, why not turn Kemba into a sixth man. It’s become a position of growing importance in the past few years, with guys like Jason Terry, Lamar Odom, and Manu Ginobli, getting 30 minutes a game on championship teams. Why can’t Kemba be our first guy off the bench on a contender.
"With the third pick of the 2006 NBA Draft, the Charlotte Bobcats select, Adam Morrison, Gonzaga."
Because you couldn't give Walker 30+ a night with Augustin on the roster.
You can’t play two defensively-disinclined small guards at the same time.

I disagree.
10 minutes with DJ and Kemba in the game, then 20 with Kemba and a normal shooting guard.
"With the third pick of the 2006 NBA Draft, the Charlotte Bobcats select, Adam Morrison, Gonzaga."
So our best PG is only going to play 28 minutes?

cuz he's the same player as dj augustin
only currently less efficient and doesn’t distribute as well
DJ actually would be a great heavy rotation 6th man
kemba would too if he got better and dj wasnt around
