The Most Shameful Action in Bobcats History: The Airball Freethrow. Done twice this year.

This afternoon I was browsing SB Nation and I came across this article by Jon Bois who attempted to gather all known instances of missed free throws in the NBA and listed all the ones he could find. Immediately I thought: "I wonder if there is any Bobcats on that list from current teams?" The first link from the main article I clicked found one...and it is indeed bad.

In history there are very few things that can hit something as low as a air-balled free throw. Unfortunately for DeSagana Diop, he has forever inbedded this action of utter ineptitude within his being on the night of January 28th against the Washington Wizards. After watching this video, any idea of DeSagana Diop ever playing on an NBA court again is beyond discussion.

Now pay very close attention to the way his team reacts. Instantly after he makes his failure of a free-throw his team colases around him. One player dejectedly slaps his hand in discouraged approval before returning to the base line. Another pats him on the waist. Another player offers words of encouragement from the side. It isn't approval, but an air of dejected acceptance. We gotta put up with him for another year and everyone knows it.

Course we have other players throwing up airballs on our team too. Here's one from Bismack from a more recent Feb 12th game against Chicago. Here's the kicker on this one. A sideline reporter is yammering on about how he and his trainers have been working on his free-throwing mechanics and helping him get better. Better try something different because it ain't working.

Here's hoping that next year is better. Leh sigh!

A few seasons ago, Diop could've filled all 36 spots on that SBN list.

Seriously, virtually every other free throw attempt by Diop was an airball during the ‘09-’10 season.

Yeah,

I really don’t know why people are like, surprised, about this, considering that that’s how Diop has always shot free throws. Maybe we’re just getting more media exposure now? I dunno lol.

Poor (and hilarious) free throw shooting is a problem many larger players have (remember how Shaq would shoot?). Diop is probably by far the worst ever, but he’s been doing it for years.

And if Diop’s free throws are the “most shameful action” in Bobcats history, consider me content. I’d rather have that than have players responsible for a big brawl or players that dope themselves.

All in all, Diop’s free throws will become a humerus anecdote in Bobcats history.

The 50-28 score in the second video is the saddest part of either of them to me.

A little more gasoline for that fire:

If all you gave me was the score of 50-28, I’d have no earthly idea who we were playing at the time.

Only if you told me it was the final score.

I would say it looked like we were playing a Big 10 team

But one team got to 50 points, which rules that out.

It's no wonder Charlotte has been so bad

We can’t even sink free throws. Seriously, why can’t the front office draft some better talent? I know most free agents won’t come to the Queen City but I remember a time when Charlotte fielded a competitive team…to bad they moved away. If you are being paid to play professional basketball you need to stop air balling your free throws.
