Charlotte Bobcats at Toronto Raptors preview -- Game 30
Today's Tunes:
"We Used To Wait" - Arcade Fire
Game Overview: This may be the Bobcats' best shot at a win until facing the Pistons after the All-Star Break. Once an offense-heavy squad, first-year Raptors head coach Dwane Casey has turned the team more defensive-minded, amazingly. The starting backcourt of Jose Calderon and DeMar DeRozan still is not a strong defensive unit, however. But they all try hard and have decent defensive positioning. Scoring is now a weak point, especially with the injury to Andrea Bargnani, who was playing all-star quality ball. Alas. The team's frontcourt defends the paint well, which does not bode well for the Bobcats, who tend to have trouble scoring in the paint. But the return of Corey Maggette looks to alleviate this some.
Mostly, I'm concerned about the Bobcats' defense. While the Raptors' backcourt's defense is lacking, their offense is not. They're quick and can drive to where they want with quickness. Calderon can shoot and DeRozan can drive well. The Bobcats cannot defend in the paint well and will probably need a strong performance from help defenders to guard the rim.
Key Matchup: Reggie Williams vs. DeMar DeRozan -- The Bobcats will need Williams' offensive versatility against DeRozan's defensive liabilities, while on the defense, I have my worries. DeRozan has regressed this season, but is still great at driving with his quickness on the dribble.
Life As A Raptors Beat Reporter Of The Day
My pal Eric Koreen, who writes across the border for the National Post, just had the pleasure of covering #Linsanity and his media following. At the 5:25-5:30 mark see him (back right) react to an awful question and restrain himself loudly groaning and murdering a colleague.

You know he'd been waiting to uncork that joke for awhile.
Injuries be damned.

If we don't win this one...
…then we probably won’t win until after the All-Star break.
(I wonder if Silas will still be the Coach.)
more than likely
bringing in a new coach isn’t going to change anything and I’m sure MJ knows that
Silas needs a chance to work with the full healthy roster. We were competitive without Henderson and desperately needed his defensive skills as Reggie Williams was getting smoked in the late third.
Of course, if he keeps using these rediculous lineups, I’m not going to cry about it.
We're going to win tonight.
We don’t have any other choice but to win tonight. We need a reason to feel good.
If you disagree with my opinion, I will take it personally.
Jeremy, you've been called Linderalla
do you think this is a fairy tale?
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA what awful reporting
LOL yeah that was kinda lame
and Calderon roasted Lin the last game…
I was hoping Lin would stoneface him for that ridiculous question...

No worries. If we lose, I'm sure he'll find a way to get over it pretty quickly...

Thats funny i know a episode of Mike and Molly the sister who smokes all the time hooked up with MJ at a bar lol. Show is based in Chicago. Jordan was a GOD in the 90’s. He was Tiger WAY before Tiger.

Looking for DJ to get closer to normal
Rough one against Minny, but essential the rest of this season.
ESPN first take
trashing the bobcats today
the panel agrees MJ should fire himself
Jemele Hill says that Isiah Thomas wasn’t as bad as a basketball executive as MJ.
Israel Gutierrez says that the league needs to contract and the Bobcats need to be one of two teams out – called the Bobcats “pathetic”
can’t say there was anything i outright disagreed with
Boone Logan is a good boy. So is David Robertson. Team A.J.
Any mention of the Cho hiring?
It hasn’t even been a full year yet since he was brought on board.
We’re still cleaning up the long term damages from Larry Brown’s short term mentality (the irony)…any mention of that? Just curious.

no and these are fair points
ESPN is the Tebow/Jeremy Lin/LeBron/Boston Red Sox channel – they only have cursory knowledge of everything else.
this aside, they’re not wrong when they say that to this point the MJ reign was been full of missteps and failures.
Boone Logan is a good boy. So is David Robertson. Team A.J.
My only contention of "this point"
is that this current season is essentially ground zero. I’d say that “this point” should be deferred to everything leading up to the end of last year…or maybe even when Cho was hired.
It is painfully obvious (at least to me) that we just hit the reset button on our franchise. We’re basically starting all over again as an expansion team would, with the exception that we arguably have some young pieces (DJ, Walker, Biyombo, Hendorson, Williams, Brown, White, Mullens) that we can actually build around for the future.

probably also no mention of
the fact that 2012-2013 offseason, we’ll basically have no money on the books and can sign whomever we want – sure we won’t get a superstar, but if we get a bunch of starting quality players we’ll at least be a playoff team in the east
you are correct good sir
but i’m afraid it’s more likely we end up with a couple more tyrus thomas types than legitimate players who will help us make the playoffs
Boone Logan is a good boy. So is David Robertson. Team A.J.
Tyrus Thomas is such a sore spot for me.
He looked so damn good in Chicago. He even showed some growth from his first year to last season. But this year? ugh
At least he’s still beasting on shot blocks. That’s about the only part of his game that hasn’t gone MIA…well, that and the way-out-of-his-range jump shots.

hmmmm
I’d give her a 5.25 out of 10. Just ever so slightly above average.
She’s certainly no Stephanie Ready!

i’d probably give her a 6

So the talking heads think this is the worst franchise ever
Meanwhile, in the Future Power Rankings done by Hollinger and Ford, the outlook for the Bobcats has continually improved.
Whatever.

I want to see 100 points tonight... Just once...
I don't want to draft Michael Brockers or Devon Still. Kreider is the future.

The Knicks could be on the same losing streak
and they wouldn’t say such things. Them catering to big markets is the reason the NBA is like it is now.

Here's the deal
I’m not excusing MJ for the mess we’re in. He’s obviously been involved in basketball decisions for many years. However, every move he’s made since becoming the majority owner has been to tear this down.
In the summer of 2010, he let Felton walk and traded Chandler. During the season, he traded Wallace and then Jax shortly thereafter. I mean, he’s been pretty honest and clear that he’s rebuilding. I don’t get the shock. Apparently the national media doesn’t understand this plan has been in action for a couple of years and bottoming out is a part of it? That doesn’t sound as dramatic I guess.

We shouldnt have traded Chandler tho. That is the move that killed us. We shouldve just let him walk in FA. We got Diop and Carroll and Najera and they have been holding us down for several seasons now. And the Tyrus deal was terrible.
No denying that
Although I think we felt like we had to resign Tyrus since we sent a first rounder away. Not saying that’s great logic but we ultimately had to choose Tyrus over Felton. The Chandler deal was made because we would have been paying the luxury tax had we kept him. It did tie us down with Najera and Carroll’s corpses for a few years though.

Diop didn't come in that trade Focus.
Erick Dampier and his expiring $13 million contract did. Diop came in a trade for Matt Carroll several years ago.
