Charlotte Bobcats vs. Philadelphia 76ers preview -- Game 28
Today's Tunes:
"Same Old Song" - The Weeknd
Game Overview: Today the 76ers come to Charlotte. They've cooled considerably since the first time they met a few weeks back, after dropping a 20-point loss to the Heat and a couple closer games to the Spurs and Clippers. As I said last time, defense is the name of the game for them. They have stronger perimeter defense that does well to force opponents into low-percentage jumpers. Andre Iguodala has been terrific, as usual, in this regard and playing pretty good ball all around. Hawes had been a good part of the team, rebounding and passing well, but has since had concerning injury leave from heel and back problems. Still, Philly's making do, starting Tony Battie, then Lavoy Allen and bringing Nikola Vucevic off the bench.
And the Bobcats just broke their franchise record for consecutive losses. Woo! Making history, you guys!
Key Matchup: Reggie Williams vs. Jodie Meeks -- The Bobcats lineup puts Reggie at a particular advantage in the starting groups. While Maggette faces the daunting matchup of Andre Iguodala's defense, Williams is stronger and taller than Meeks. Hopefully Williams can exploit this matchup as a scorer and distributor.
On Derrick Brown
Derrick Brown's been surging as of late, scoring at an efficient clip while the rest of the offense is mired in quicksand. Rick Bonnell talked to him and Silas about the kid's play of late. It's good stuff.

I love that we seemingly share an equal amount of disdain for Union County one liners.

I enjoy Union County's one-liners.
PAIN! and 2019! should be our motto for this season.
If you disagree with my opinion, I will take it personally.

It looks like...
someone tried to explain to them why the worst record in the NBA has a 25% chance to get the #1 pick.

Wait, a team currently starting Tony Battie is one of the top 3 teams in the East?
I don’t understand.
If you disagree with my opinion, I will take it personally.
he's only started 8 games spanning january an into february
and hasn’t even touched the court in four games
he probably won’t play tonight, either, as they’ve been content with going with a lineup of Brand, Allen and Vucevic rotating through the 3 and 4.
They were 5-3 in those games, including the loss to Miami, but his minutes max during that span was 17:17.
In fact, I hope they DO play him!
Ben totally glossed over
the fact that the Sixers are coming off a win in Cleveland and have beaten LA and Atlanta since their lost to Miami.
they're 7-3 in their last 10
with wins against Orlando, Chicago, Atlanta and the Lakers
Moral Victory Line
Ok, what’s the Moral Victory Margin for tonight?
Vegas is line is Philly -12, so, 24?

does anyone else get the feeling
that ANY player movement is just talk? like when we made the trade for dampier and there was all this talk about it was gonna be parlayed into a great player because of the expiring? and that when we saw the returns of najera-dijon mustard- carroll we thought it was just part one of a 2 part process? then reality sets in……
I WISH that dj augustin is being held out so he can check out healthy before a trade , but I have the feeling its wishful thinking. same goes for the thought of moving thomas…or diaw….or white…or najera. I think anybody on a 3-24 team should be available, but I also get the feeling that some guys on this squad are unavailable in trade discussions. this wont turn into player bashing but I am not opposed to moving anybody on this roster. but that gets me back to my topic: my gut says I dont see us moving anybody at the deadline.

Probably not
I think our FO sucks. Overvaluing certain players and being scared to pull the trigger. It hurts man… I dont think anything involving the Bobcats is smile-worthy…And you are absolutely right. NO player on a 3 and 24 team should be exempt…
and leting the deals ALL expire is probably the worst mistake
we can make as a bobcat franchise. this team cant assume we end up with cap space and people come here because of cap space to burn ONLY. you will attract the wrong type guys if all you can offer is money. we end up with travis outlaw type situations, guys taking the money because we need to fill a roster. said it before and say it again, we need guys, even if its a few, UNDER CONTRACT in trades. this keeps a guy here 2-3 years, allows others to see what we are building who then consider coming here.
a free agent, one whose worthy of being signed and helps a team, dosent want to go to a roster thats a revolving door of rookies and spare parts. if jordans in a world of hurt financially, and he cant spend alot, then why arent we filling at least 2 to 3 roster spots with d-leaguers? guys who are working their tale off, like the derrick brown article says, to get a chance. why do we have cory higgins wasting a chance for a guy from the d-league who could be developing behind walker? theres a chance for this team to be positivily evaluating talent worthy of a roster spot in the next few months, why not cut najera and use that slot to go find a young hungry d-league post player? they would have a few months of auditions and get their short.

I totally agree with what you are sayin
no one is going to agree with you hear bc this is the position that I take. There have been plenty of players traded for nearly nothing this season, that I think we couldve had a hand in. Sessions, Speights, Thompson was on the block. But we are scared to pull the trigger. There are players in the d-league now avg 20+ppg and 7assts. They are young and hungry and shoot lights out. Not saying they will score 20 in the NBA but why not give them a chance? Our roster is in a state of turmoil and its time to clean house. This is the year that the Bobcats front office and GM thinktank need to map out the type of team THEY WANT. And go out to get the right coaches and players to do so. Augustin and Hendo are both worth a first rd pick. We may can get one for Diaw but its a stretch. But we can at least get some decent young pieces for both him and Najera. We got a trade exception we aint used…Its just sad that MJ and Co havent even made small moves. We actually got the pieces to move for picks and young players buried on benches. To revamp the team but we are just scared to make it happen…
I think we can possibly get a 1st for Diaw from a contender that needs a another big body down low for the playoffs
plus the fact that his contract is expiring makes him very marketable, perhaps playing for a contender will make him care more.
Li Zheng
we'd be very lucky to get a first
but if we did, i’d be quite grateful
certainly, the team we’re playing right now, the 76ers, could use an extra body, especially if spencer hawes can’t get, and stay, healthy
i understand what you're saying
but i disagree – in 2013 there are going to be a ton of quality free agents and i would love the chance to get some of them on the team
even if we fill our team up with 10 free agents, we’ll be considerably better than we are now
our players aren’t worth enough to anyone outside of maybe boris’ expiring, and maybe we can ship off some expirings next year, who knows – but ultimately what we’d get for them wouldn’t be better than who we could sign in the off-season, particularly 2013, when there’s so many and not enough teams, and money, to go around
tale
