Bobcats opt not to extend Gerald Henderson or Byron Mullens

Stay connected for news and updates

The deadline for contract extensions for players drafted in 2009 ended last night without the Bobcats extending Gerald Henderson or Byron Mullens.

Henderson has shown solid play over the past two seasons after a rough rookie year when he was diagnosed with Larry Brown Is Your Coach-itis. Mullens proved to be a good acquisition for Charlotte last year when he rocketed onto the scene as a talented shooter and athletic big man.

However neither got contract extensions and perhaps it's best for the Bobcats to take the wait and see approach. The market on these two probably wouldn't be too aggressive so bidding against themselves in contract extension negotiations could prove harmful. Say, like the Toronto Raptors extending DeMar DeRozan for four years and around $38-40 million.
