Charlotte Bobcats at Indiana Pacers preview -- Game 8

Today's Tunes:

"Neighborhood #3 (Power Out)" - Arcade Fire

Game Overview: The Bobcats are coming directly off of an overtime defeat at home, and head out to Indianapolis to take on the Pacers. As a young squad, their legs probably won't feel as much effect from the short turnaround as an older team. Still, the bonus period and back-to-back will make for tired legs that may make the Bobcats sloppy. Considering the Bobcats cannot handle turning the ball over against top-notch teams.

The Pacers are a good team that will contend in the Eastern Conference. I'm not sure they're quite there yet, but they have a lot of good players and depth. Danny Granger is a streaky volume-scoring gunner that can get to the stripe. Darren Collison, former Hornets spring-up young phenom, is a quick point guard with good vision and shooting. David West is a new face, signed as a free agent in the offseason, putting some offensive punch on the block for Indiana. Their frontcourt is quite deep with Hibbert at center, backed up by Jeff Foster, who rebounds well, and Tyler Hansbrough gives relief to West.

Star-divide

Key Matchup: Derrick Brown on Danny Granger. Granger gets the ball so much and is want to turn the ball over on occasion. If Brown can force Granger into taking tough shots and giving up the ball (not an easy task, mind you), the Pacers must look elsewhere to find their offense. Brown's not a shutdown defender, but he's not awful either. If he can also find his shot on offense and fill empty space with timely cuts, he can be in a good position today.

Tyler Hansbrough Does Not Know What To Do With This Basketball

Tyrus needs to eat some before he plays again.

RE: Key matchup

I checked the statistics and it is very true that Granger turns the ball over quite a bit. Brown’s best skill on defense is his ability to steal the ball and get blocks. So, I’m optimistic in that catagory.

Matchups

I say our PGs are better, but their SGs, SFs, PFs and Bench are better. Overall I think the centers are even. However I have not seen David West this year and am basing my opinion based on the past. Tyler Hansbrough always seems to get around 10 and 10 and draw plenty of fouls. It should be interesting to watch him and Biyombo guard each other because they both hustle all the time. I want to see Gerald Henderson against Paul George. George is now around 6’10, 6’11 because he grew two inches in off-season, it will be tough to shoot over him, he is also good defender. Mullins and Diaw will bring away the foul prone Hibbert so that is not an issue. Hopefully Derrick Brown gets more run tonight.

rumor

there was a rumor around media world that Collisons assist totals were being skewed by Hornets stats people. Judging by his since he was traded i would have to believe that rumor is true. He was getting 15-20 assists in some games where the other teams media thought he might have had 10. His 5.9 APG would agree with me this year, and 5.1 APG last year too, both these stats with more PT as well

True of CP3 also

Home stats are always better than away stats, but NO skews them to extremes. This was brought up quite a bit when he was traded to the Clips. NO was giving him the assist when he was getting hockey assists and if the other player dribbled. Basically if someone scores, whoever made the pass before it regardless of what happens in between was getting an assist. From what I understand, this is how UNC keeps assist stats as well.

disagree about UNC

I watch almost every game and Kendall Marshall’s numbers are legit. Ask Larry Drew III if UNC pads stats

Ahh hell.

I’d rather start out with DJ, Hendo, Diaw, White, Mullens.
