and play the same role
Also, Morrow pays SG a substantial amount of time.
I wouldn't mind it
I also didn’t realize that he is from Charlotte. It’d be cool having him back in his hometown.
Yeah I saw that
I want us to bring him in now for that reason and because we desperately need someone who can consistently knock down shots.
LOL...
Must have been one of those “academic” scholarships.`

Morrow is a great long range shooter. He would be a bonus on the team.
But who is expiring and how much does Morrow cost?
Morrow is $4 million for each of the next two years (expires in 2013)
And Boris, both DJs, and Najera are expiring (I believe).
If nothing else, he's an upgraded version of Carroll that can defend on the ball at an average NBA level.
LOL, well in reality neither is average. They both can be described as basically "shitty"
(strike three)
i was simply basing my assessment off defensive PER
but Caroll manages to pass the eye test, too
he’s gotten noticeably better on defense over the last three seasons
granted, he went from being bad to just barely average, but improvement is improvement
Well, Carroll has two years left (next year is a player option for him).
Also, Carroll + Diaw is about 9 mil more than Morrow’s contract alone.
I don’t see any pieces we could give NJ that would NOT vastly exceed the worth of Morrow. Furthermore, the last thing we need is a decent scorer who happens to be really bad on defense. Reggie is a great scorer who happens to be subpar on defense (so I’ve heard and read), so we’ve already got that area covered.
"People are gonna respect the Panthers, and I want what I do as a quarterback to be scary. I want people to be in fear. I want it, and I’m gonna get it."
- Carolina Panthers Franchise Quarterback
Reggie is not that bad
Again, he’s no Tony Allen but he’s not Carmelo either. He’s a SF with a deadly shot. He’s basically Dorell Wright. Except Williams is able to get in the lane and has a nice floater. Under Wright, Reggie learned to use his shot fake to get him in the lane. Wright uses his shot fake but only dribbles to get an open three or long range two. But with the injury, Idk if he will return to form.
Now on to the trade. Wouldnt it be amazing that Najera could turn into Morrow? NJ would def do it. They dont care who they are getting back. They just want Morrow off the books. Imagine the second unit with DJ or Kemba with Morrow to pass it to instead of Carroll. And if we really are speeding up the offense, having shooters like Morrow and Williams on the squad will def help us in the long run…
Hard to say WHAT we're doing with the offense long-term.
Does anybody really believe that Baby Silas will just be handed the keys to the team?

I did prior to this season
I don’t think Silas is the biggest problem we have, but at the same time, if a coach isn’t able to implement his gameplan because he can’t reach the players, then something has to change. At the same time, he has to deal with players like Boris Diaw and Tyrus Thomas, who simply aren’t going to change their ways for anyone, it seems.
I hope not.
Let’s at least keep our options open.

both of them are pretty terrible on defense
Morrow and Williams have both have finished the last two seasons with a 114 d rating. Carmelo has never exceeded 111 and is playing a barely above average 101 this season.
Reggie leads Morrow in almost every statistical category, excepting steals per and ft %.
Morrow is good for two threes a game and a few long range jump shots, in a lot of minutes. He doesn’t play d well, he doesn’t get to the line, he can’t create his own shot, he doesn’t rebound, so he’s pretty much as one dimensional as it gets in the NBA.
It’d be nice to have someone who can hit open threes, but unfortunately, with our team, he’d have to be on the floor a good while, and with Boris Diaw, to get any open looks. At least Reggie Williams can penetrate and get some free throws.
on second thought
having both morrow and reggie williams could find us a few lucky wins and at least make games more exciting
sure, we’re not gonna stop anyone (can you imagine a lineup of dj, morrow, williams, white and mullens on defense?), but at least we’ll put up triple digits occasionally
This, i would do. I played pickup ball with Morrow a few times up at the Dowd Y. Good guy. I dont know the contract numbers but Morrow is a Charlotte guy and he and maybe Jamison down the road could be what Jordan said he was looking for in players that buy in to the city and the vision of what he wants to do here.
It depends on the direction of the team
Our team is more suited for an uptempo type of game. And we have to implement an uptempo style of play. (Im already talking like Morrow is here lol bc we have alot of expirings to offer and this is perfect for us). If you look at the roster its easy to tell that we are more suited to pushing the ball than setting up in the half court and running a play. Not saying that we cant do it but with the personnel, it better suits us to run more often than not. Kemba, Hendo, DJ and Maggs are exploited when we set up. Kemba, Hendo and DJ are undersized. It doesnt take a defensive specialist to do a decent job on guarding undersized players. Whereas if they are running, its hard to stay in front of them. Maggs on the other hand isnt gonna beat many off the dribble like he did in California. In turn, him getting to the rim for those FTs has cut back. Maggs getting the ball on the run with that strong frame and at this age is probably more effective to Maggs strengths. Now how this relates to Morrow:
No matter what type of offense we run, having a shooter as deadly as Morrow suits BOTH the speedy style and the more traditional style. I will not say that Morrow is better than Hendo (altho I like Morrow better). But if Morrow had those type of screens, I feel he’d be more effective. In NJ, he doesnt get those type of screens. With the speed of our PGs, the driving ability of Maggs/Hwnso and the passing of Diaw, he fits here.
We have an opportunity to build a team. A TEAM. And with Morrow, the pieces are set in place. And the holes are filled UNTIL the draft. Our backcourt is set. Even with NO AUGUSTIN, I feel like Dragic, Flynn, Zowdell, Udrih, Price are good enuff to hold down a second unit. Heck, its still some undrafted FAs and some D-leaguers that can hold down a second unit (Courtney Fortson/Donald Sloan)…Adding Morrow, gives us the freedom to now focus our worries of the frontcourt. Lets do it. Look at Morrow’s numbers from the last 5 or 6 games. FEAR of the 3pt shot is like an extra man on offense…
How does one "implement" an uptempo style?
Silas has urged the team to run more, but they really just haven’t.

I know Focus would agree with me on this,
but let’s bring him on home. We could always use another young shooter to add to the mix. Williams can slide in as the backup 2 or 3 while Morrow is really a 2. I wouldn’t mind it at all.

Yep..
Let Williams play the 3 and Morrow backup 2…Oh and he dropped 28 last night…
I see no reason not to boost our bench up to be as strong as possible.
He and Williams coming in would be instant offense and make it rain all night. They would be crazy on 2K12 too. Lol.

Per minute
what are these phoney stat categories you speak of? Is he leading the league in blocks? NO. What did he score last nite? Nothing.
actually
he scored 3 points and had 1 block and 3 rebounds and a steal in 12 minutes
which is a 9 point, 9 rebound, 3 block per 36 performance
last night, BB was certainly not the worst Bobcat on the court
There aren't many games where he has been.

Its a phoney stat...
you dont know what he’d do if he had more minutes. He may get off to a hot start and then fizzle. Or start off slow. That per minute crap is for the birds. I understand if you are getting 25mins a game and someone wants to do a PER 36. Understandable. But when you are just getting 5th quarter minutes, its rediculous to us PER anything dealing with time…
Man, if this is BB starting off slow
I want to see what he does when he starts off hot!

I watched him play in college
and I was blown away by his skillset. The has speed, size, athleticism, he rebounded well, he was a creator. And he has very good defense.
Then I watched him have a very good rookie season with the Nets. Very good. He was always on the verge of a triple double. His passing was great for a SF. At the time, Lebron and Iggy were the only ones really that versatile at that position. He was a good scorer but his passing..his passing was rare…and I know in the right system he’s gonna get it back.
Ya know, they say the same thing for a lot of players in the NBA.

But wouldn't it be so decent to leave facts like
that out the equation? I mean, we all know Francisco Elson has always been a top shot blocker.

No, because block rate isn't very relevant if you can't sustain it over more than 20 minutes a game.

just because you had to nit-pick doesn’t make his statement any less generally accurate since it’s a common and safe assumption to make that any stats given are from qualified players unless otherwise stated

what the heck does that mean? And what makes BB any more “qualified” than anyone else? LOL. This is why stats dont tell the whole story. “Qualified players”…sheesh

by Bring Back Primoz on Feb 9, 2012 9:54 AM EST up reply actions
Haha really?
Being qualified means you have surpassed a certain threshold (like minutes played for instance) so players with skewed statistics don’t pollute the rankings.
It keeps players like Solomon Alabi from statistically being the best shot blocker in the league with his 1 block in his 7 total minutes played this season.
And with as much as you toot your own horn about how great a basketball mind you are, I can’t believe you don’t even know what “qualified players” means.
focus
anytime you mention a player’s stats, we assume you’re talking about “qualified players”
are you really serious right now?
I know what it means
but what exactly has BB done to be more of a qualified player than anyone else? If he is considered qualified then its not by enough to write off the other guys that lead him…
he has played enough minutes to qualify
that simple – anytime you click on a league stats sheet like on espn or yahoo or nba.com, it only shows qualified players unless you click something to have it do otherwise
why are you arguing a simple fact of life?
Lmao. It's crazy
that he’s debating this of all things.

I still dont think they are that bad on defense...
not great but not terrible. But I’ll tell you what. A zone defense is a whole lot more effective with Morrow at the 2 than Kemba
statistically
that projected unit would give up 112 points per 48 :-/
Yeah
thats such an intangible stat. PER 48…sheesh. Situations, defensive sets, matchups, help defense, fast breaks, loose balls blah blah…
the point is
you put a bunch of players with high (bad) defensive ratings, a statistic which has been proven time and time again to be directly correlatable to a player’s team defensive presence, then you get a team with bad team defense
Facts/stats mean nothing to Focus.

That
and like i said, d-rating has already been proven by people smarter, and with more time, than me to be an adequate and accurate measure of a player’s role in team defense
logic dictates that if you get a bunch of players who play poor team defense, they’re going to be a poor defending unit, and thus get scored upon more often
