Walker's Big Night Not Enough, Bobcats Lose to Wizards 102-99
Some of us are leaving, and that is sad, but this isn't the end. No way. We're gonna show this world a thing or two. We're going to show...
The Charlotte Bobcats lost to the Washington Wizard tonight by three points. The Bobcats had a chance to tie the game on the last possession but Matt Carroll's three-pointer fell short, as too many of his have this year. Coming into tonight's game Carroll had made two three-pointers. Three-pointers are, in general, Carroll's strong suit making 38% for his career. He's struggled to find the mark so far this season hitting just 11%.
Carroll did hit a huge three tonight in the fourth quarter. Not only did it draw the Bobcats to within one but it also guaranteed everyone in attendance a free ticket to the Bobcats game against the Sixers on February 13. Now, if you watched the Bobcats last game against the Sixers you might have an argument as to whether that was truly a prize or not, but regardless it fired up the home crowd and seemed to give the entire building a little life.
For all the Bobcats need to do this year, the main thing as I see it is give the fans an entertaining product and they did that tonight. It was a Saturday night, against a bad and beatable opponent and Time Warner Cable arena had a solid crowd of 17,761. Does that help the fact that the Bobcats lost this game? No, of course not. But this team has had a very, very tough week.
As difficult as it has been for us to watch these games, and make no mistake it's been difficult, playing in these games must have been just as frustratingly difficult.
I'm not saying the Bobcats wouldn't have been beaten, and beaten badly, if D.J. Augustin, D.J. White, Corey Maggette, Reggie Williams, and Gerald Henderson had been able to play during this stretch but I absolutely think this team would have been exponentially more competitive. What's being asked of the players that have played is to play much more than they are used to, do things that they are not used to, and fill roles that they have no business filling.
No one is going to feel sorry for them and I'm not here to plead for their forgiveness but losing quality, experienced NBA players makes a difference. It just does. And I believe at full strength the Bobcats might be a better team than the Wizards.
But full strength or not, the Bobcats have dropped two games out of the last three to the Wiz. The Bobcats have three wins and the Wizards have four. They're both not very good professional basketball teams, but they played an entertaining game tonight.
So, take these game observations with a block of salt.
The Bobcats shot much better tonight connecting on 47% of their shots from the field. The offense, without starting point guard Augustin, is still suffocatingly stagnant at times. Kemba Walker has been forced into being a starting point guard and that's not easy even for the most talented rookies. Walker is very talented and somehow it's taken this long to mention that he got his first career triple-double tonight (and the first from this year's rookie class) notching 20 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists.
Maybe this give Kemba's rookie campaign a shot in the arm. Perhaps it gives him a little buzz in the race for Rookie of the Year. More importantly for Bobcats' fans maybe this is truly his breakout game and there is more of this to come.
The most exciting stat for any fan should be those 11 assists. Of course, the points are great, we know Kemba has a knack for scoring even if his shot (connecting only 37% of the time) has been more miss than hit to start his rookie season. But his ability to direct on offense has all of a sudden been thrust to center stage. He's struggled and as a result the Bobcats have seen quarters where they struggle to score 10 points.
Not all of this is on Walker of course. He's playing with guys who aren't used to being in the position they are, and again...he's a rookie. But tonight was a high point for him. Facing off against John Wall (13 points, 10 assists), picked by many as one of those players to make the leap this year into the upper echelon of NBA point guards, Walker faired pretty well. He made his fair share of mistakes but played 43 minutes tonight, the most of anyone on the floor.
Still, at times the Bobcats looked completely lost on offense, struggling to find any rhythm much less a good shot against a defense that comes in at 25th in the league in defensive efficiency according to HoopsData.com.
But offense was the good news in this game. The defense is simply deplorable. Nick Young abused the entire building tonight scoring 21 on 9-15 shooting from the field. It would have really been nice to see Gerald Henderson on the floor making it a little more difficult for Young, but regardless of what you think of Young's overall game (he plays no D) one thing he can do is finger roll...no, sorry...I mean shoot. He can shoot and tonight he got way too many open looks, as did most of the Wiz.
But even when Young wasn't wide open, he drove and hit contested difficult shots. He deserves some credit tonight for answering the Cats just about every time they made a push, especially in the fourth, making shots twice down the stretch when the separation was just two points.
And it wasn't just Young, Washington shot 52.6% from the field and even better from three hitting 6-11 for almost 55%. A lot of those threes (and all the rest of the shots) were a result of late or non-existent rotations by the Bobcats' defense. Had the Wiz just been a little off on a possession here or there, the result of this game might have been different. But they weren't and Washington was able to pull out a three-point win, 102-99.
But, the aforementioned Carroll three-point miss could have sent the game into overtime. At the end of the day, is it better that it didn't? Perhaps. These two teams are going to battling for the cellar all year and owning the reverse tiebreaker could help the Bobcats in the long run. Sure, a lot is going to happen between now and then but the more Ping-Pong balls the better.
Should Carroll have gotten that shot? No, not really. It was Kemba's night and I would have liked to have ultimately seen him take the shot to tie the game at the buzzer. This is nitpicking just to nitpick of course, but it was Walker's breakout game, it would have been nice to give him the ball...and you know he wanted it.
Maybe that was an option, and it looks like it might have been. Walker appears to curl around a Boris Diaw screen to the corner but was covered. Carroll then rolls out up top of the same pick and is open. Regardless, the Bobcats came up short. But they made the game entertaining. Byron Mullens led Charlotte in scoring and finished the first half with 17 points in just 13 minutes.
Mullens hit a huge shot down the stretch to tie the game with just over four minutes and then got the Bobcats within two under two minutes to go. Mullens was also called for goaltending a late Javelle McGee layup with under a minute to go..and I'm ok with that. At least he was trying to block it; he was just a hair to late.
McGee was a problem tonight for the Bobcats, and that should come as no surprise. The Cats' defense is inappropriately inviting at times and a big man with the athletic ability of McGee should feast on that. And feast he did to the tune of 22 points and 10 rebounds.
Let's just talk about it because I know we want to, Bismack Biyombo played less than two minutes in the second half and not even seven minutes for the entire game. It's honestly tough to say that he should have played more tonight, even with the utter inability by the Bobcats to stop anything. Charlotte needed everything it got from Diaw, Mullens, and Tyrus Thomas (6-12 from the floor for 13 points and 10 rebounds) who seems to be working his way back into game form.
This isn't a good defensive team. And when it's not scoring it's painful to watch. So as much as I would like to see Biyombo get minutes and experience, tonight wasn't his night to do that.
Five Bobcat players were in double figures tonight and Desagna Diop made one free throw. Mullens ended up playing starter's minutes off the bench and we saw a lot of good Boris tonight (7-11 for 21 points and 10 assists). I'm more and more convinced that as Diaw goes, so goes this team. After the week of games this team has played it's tough to get too upset by an entertaining, competitive contest from this crew.

I'll tell ya what's sad
When your POINT GUARD has more REBOUNDS than your CENTER (Mullens) and FORWARD (Diaw) COMBINED. Props to Walker. Still don’t get why Silas keeps Biyombo on the bench. Oh well, the bright side is if they keep losing, more than likely Silas and his staff will be gone.

well i still cant blame Silas and Co.
1. Silas is not a member of the front office. Im sure if it was that bad, someone would’ve made him play BB by now.
2. BB isn’t good. Had 2 or 3 decent games.
3. Wut makes BB more of a priority than Mullens? Last time I checked Mullens was a member of our team. And actually producing.

But you could start both Mullins and BB in the front court

No you cant.
Mullens is a center. He’s been buried on a bench in OKC and now he is heating up. He is showing what he can do. Of course he’ll have some bad games along the way. But he does what he is good at EVERY game. We know what his strengths are (his real strengths not his PROJECTED stengths) and we know what his weaknesses are also. But even though rebounding is considered a weakness, its honestly not THAT bad. No worse than SUPERSTAR Brook Lopez. He is making some GREAT strides at Center. Lets ride that wave. He’s a sure thing until we find someone BETTER. BB on the other hand hasnt made the strides this season to warrant PT at C over Mullens. He has PROJECTED strengths that has only been seen sparingly. He does have ALOT of weaknesses that a blind coach can see. Should he get PT? Yes. Should it be more or equal to Mullens? Def not. Mullens is a center and he’s progressing at CENTER. Dont change that for the development of ONE player…
Nice job ignoring my suggestion, and making the same point again
Mullins is doing well at everything except what BB excels at… defense and boards. BB however is limited at Mullins strengths. So… Start them both. Let’s get real though, Mullins cannot bang around with big Centers, but BB can. I don’t think it would hurt to try sliding Mullins to PF. His game after all is similar to a lot of PF’s in the league.

I just dont see mullens as a true center
Sure he’s always played that position, but so did Tim Duncan until he came to the NBA, then he switched over to PF because of his versatility. I think Mullens would be a more versatile PF than C. Granted, that would make our C rotation BB and Diop with is a baby and granddad version of the same player.
I’m not saying its the end all answer, no one is. But if TT is getting played at SF, which was obviously out of position 5 years ago, why not give Mullens a shot at running PF and see how he does. Even if its just for 2 games, try a few rotations with him at PF, then when BB or Diop come out, rotate him back to C. Review the tape to see how efficient the team was and then make your decision. As is now, you’re simply speculating that it won’t work and have no evidence to prove otherwise. It can’t hurt us to try it. It simply cannot.
This! Is what I'm sayin.
Mullins needs to toughen and bulk up to be a really solid Center. I’m still hoping for Drummonds… I think a C like that, with Mullins at PF could make a pretty nasty front court.

Rebounding not that bad?
He played 31 minutes and got 3 rebounds. That’s pretty deplorable for a center. Rebounding is about 2 things: effort and positioning. And apparently our PG understands that more than our center.
I’m not trying to bash Mullens, I like him. But he has to do a better job on the glass.

Thats one game
he’s had just as many big rebounding games as anyone else. Sure it isnt consistent but thats no reason to push him out of position. You cant shun his other very much NEEDED contributions bc he isnt Keven Love on the boards. All players should make an effort to rebound. Not just Mullens. Mullens is contributing with the skill that we knew he had (at least I did) which is the ability to score. BB hasnt contributed with the skills we THOUGHT he had. No need to disturb Mullens.
Bismack was projected as a great shot
Blocker and HAS contributed in that department when playing. Cut it out.

I think I clearly
pointed out BB’s scoring ineptitude when I posted his scouting videos before the season.
He was projected to get blocks and rebounds. He definately gets blocks, and he at least blocks out well, even if his timing is off (or he has tiny hands, one of the two).
It's not the hands.
"With the third pick of the 2006 NBA Draft, the Charlotte Bobcats select, Adam Morrison, Gonzaga."

I like how all of the sudden because Biyombo isn’t getting 10 ppg that people see that as evidence to tell us he is a bust like any of us expected anything different. Kid is already leaps and bounds better than his workout video though and I can’t wait to see him matched up against another dominant big man.

Determined Larry Hughes was better than Gerald Henderson. Besides, I don’t care what you or Silas have to say. It’s very clear to me Biyombo contributes a lot more than Diop when on the floor. And you are comparing a 10 year veteran who started on a championship squad to a rookie.

LOL @ all of this.
You’re making a lot of assumptions based on very little empirical evidence. We haven’t yet seen much of Biyombo.
We have seen much of BB
you guys stop please. You cant keep a player in for long periods of time when they fumble or travel on offense everytime they get the ball. (With the exception of one game). If this was boxing, then choosing BB would be fine. But we have about 12 more players on the team. Its not fair to give BB minutes to turn the ball over or do absolutely nothing for HIS development when we have other players on our team too. Kemba is developing. DJ White is developing. Mullens is developing. And even Hendo is still developing. BB isnt the only player on the team and he def doesnt deserve special attention. Send him to the d-league. OR is that “degrading” somehow?

Don’t act like you know the deal. If it was up to you we would be watching Klay Thompson relentlessly chuck away and provide nothing….or we’d have Marcus Morris turning around our franchise….from the D league!!

Terrico White >>>> Matt Carrol
Diop and Higgins and BB…so I dont know why ppl keep bringing him up. I never asked for us to let the dude start. Just a bench player… Oh and Marcus Morris aka SILAS’ preferred pick is in the d-league and so what??? The d-league is a DEVELOPMENTAL league. Its somehow become some degradation to place players in a league where they can fine tune their skills without rotting on a bench or being a huge risk to the team (BB). Houston has about 8 forwards. So its means nothing to me when ppl scream d-league. And I hope any rookie who has to go isnt discouraged by ppl who think the d-league is some statement that you arent good enuff. Especially in a season with little training camp and little practice. The d-league is the perfect place for BB…
Heavy lies the crown of the man with both a crystal ball and self-aggrandized Monday-morning GM skills
It’s a difficult burden to carry.
No one is shunning his contributions
But you also have to call out a center averaging less than 1 rebound every 5 minutes and is basically a matador defensively. That’s not acceptable either. Sure, he can score. But if he scores 18 pts and allows 25 pts, he isn’t helping.
Note that I’m not attempting to knock Mullens here but I just don’t get how you can so easily gloss over his deficiencies. You have to call them you like see them. You can’t only talk about positives for players you like and then only talk about negatives for players you don’t like.

Mullens
is terrible defensively on the baseline, but he’s body defense is pretty decent, i don’t mind him not getting boards if he’s preventing the opposing centerfrom getting an offensive rebound, which he does do
team rebounding is up when he’s on the floor, that’s a positive
i hate his cam-newton-esque show your emotions on your sleeve kind of attitude though… you’re a center in the NBA, man up!
I think the root of Mullens' rebounding issues
Is that his man (and everyone else’s for that matter) scores so easily there is no rebound to get!

He almost gets a double double every time he get 20 minutes
And everytime he gets 10 or 15 miniutes he gets 3 blocks at least. I dont see how its fair to call a guy not very good when you have only seen him play in 20 games and in every game he has had decent miniutes he had a good game. I dont really see how getting a double and 7 blocks in a game and multiple 4 and 3 block games and also almost getting another double going 12 and 7 in only 20 miniutes which is the same amount of miniutes he got when he went 11 and 10 with 3 blocks in 20 games of his NBA career with no offseason or SL. I just dont understand how he already isnt a good player with all this vonsidered and the limited time you have seen him play.

That 24 minute bid by Biz vs the Wizards was not as much a debacle for the kid as you want all to believe. Biz went 0-2 FG, 1-2 FT during that game …so he was wasn’t just “Capt. Jack”in up clangers.
You VERY convieniently left out his 4 blocks!!
Also, in 24 min he had only 1 TO and 1 personal foul (with 4 blocks!!) showing pretty impressive control for a guy who’s “lost” out there.
And McGee had 6 points that night. Javale helped himself to 22 last night.

TWill is another very different case.

"He almost gets a double double every time he get 20 minutes"
Umm, no, he doesn’t. In his first 20-minute game this year (nearly 21 vs. Cleveland), he went for only 8 and 5. In his second, he barely got a double-double with 11-10 against Orlando. Then, against Washington, he put up only 1-7 in 23+ minutes. So 33% of the time is not “every time.” When getting 10+ minutes, he’s only 5/15 in getting more than two blocks, and that number only goes to 3/5 when getting 15+. FINALLY, he has not had a single game of 12-7 this season, so now you’re just making things up. So please, don’t let facts get in the way of your argument.

rookies and no off season...
i think you forgot that these two variables are not happening this 2012 season (read above). Both players show somethin despite the great downside of the team. They wil make this team a challenger next season. Right now they are developing. I just hope that the coaching staff and the front office are doing that to this kids. They should focus on their “D” this year which i can see a self defeating weakness. The “O” i thinik can start in trusting in each other more, good picks, FA and good coaching staff. All these for the future of the franchise and my future as well, or il die with a heart attack if this continue for years.

they have their share of troubles in the league as well and all those mention are all top 3.. irving 1. rubio 2 and brooks 3. kemba is ranked 4th (nba.com).. our rookies are doing fine (not great) in their development. and i can see development (baby steps) per game played. i still have high hopes for next season and great outcome to some of the players. I just dont agree on coachin staff and front office the way they are doing things.

I said the same thing about Silas right before the season started....
Perfect situation and he’s a perfect scapegoat! Rebuilding year with very little talent. Poor season would be the ideal reason to let him go (may not be the right reason).
This team will either be Stephen Silas’s or they’re going to clean house and bring in someone else to implement new systems for these younger guys after the draft (JVG???).
On another note…where has MJ been all season?? He was just about at every game last year and now he’s MIA. Where’s all of this dedication and commitment he was preaching??
They're going to bring somebody new in...
But it won’t happen until the end of the year. They’re not going to pay two coaching staffs to do the job.
And yes, Jordan has been largely absent. The Bobcats’ PR guy had to get on Twitter to defend him against a Knicks beat writer who said something along the lines of “I’ve been to more Bobcats games than Jordan.” Well, he was wrong, but through eighteen games, the writer had been to two, and Jordan had been to four.

I think its a little too much
DEVELOPING going on here at one time. Giving ANY coach a headache. They have nothing they know they can rely on. We need a few young vets that we know we can place in a certain role and they can at least make decent production in that role. Now Im not saying Anthony Morrow but lets say for instance. We know what his role would be. And we should allow that player to play THAT role. Instead of switching players around and HOPING they can GROW to do something that we dont know they’ll ever be able to do. Right now we need to make some moves to get players that we KNOW can produce in a certain role.

Deron Williams has destroyed Chris Paul.
Now, I think Rose is better, but when it was Paul or Williams, it was always Williams. Plenty of numbers to back it up, too.
That's your opinion.
A lot of people would disagree with you though. Personally, for me, it’s Rose, Nash, CP3, Rondo, and then Williams. However, he has tricked many into believing he is a superstar, like Melo, and will be paid and sought after like one.

LAKERS LOOKING INTO AGENT ZERO!!!!
PLEASE CHO. Lets just move Augustin NOW. If they get Arenas, there will be a very slim chance that we get a 1st rd pick for DJ. DONT WAIT TOO LONG!!! The only way we can get some value for DJ other than the Lakers is if we Lakers do the Gasol trade with Houston. And I dont know the likely hood of that happening. MAKE A MOVE DUDE!!!
Probably...of course if the Rockets do
the Lowry/Scola for Gasol…the rockets would probably do the DJ trade to have a starting caliber PG…
other than that, I cant see a trade where we would get a pick and a PG. Unless there is a team our there that feels the need to have alot of PGs.

I would really like to get the Lakers first round pick this year.
I can see them potentially missing the playoffs. They are a terrible road team this year. Plus, they are old which in a condensed season means the likelihood of injuries is higher. Even if they don’t miss the playoffs (I’m realistic in that they probably won’t), they still won’t exactly be exploding into it with a great seed. I can see them getting in with a 6th seed, for example. Their pick won’t be bad and it has a chance to be great.

This won't necessarily change because of the way the schedule was drawn up...

i doubt lakers will give up their 1st for DJ
Unfortunately, DJ simply isnt an “upgrade” from DFish. They have similar skillsets but DJ will harm you on the defensive end. Realistically, Lakers can make much better out of their 1st if they are still looking for one more superstar for their team. If anything, they could grab a PG on their next draft, but getting DJ wont affect where they end up in the playoffs this season.

a.k.a. DeAngelo Williams in the stalking business- agile and elusive
Uhm yeah, he's an upgrade of 13 years more youth.
You also need to consider who Fisher has played with, and who DJ has. DJ isn’t the franchise savior we hope(d) Kemba could be. But put him on a team with some real fire power, and I think you’ll see a major jump in his performance. I’d expect his assists to go up, as well as his FG%… nothing stunts FG% like jacking up wild shots because your teammates are incapable.

dj can put points in a hurry and is a good distributor. i just dont think that is enough for the lakers to use a pick for dj. dont get me wrong, i hope the lakers get dj, but i think the lakers are looking for a blockbuster trade, maybe packaging the 1st rounder with other players to get that superstar they have been waiting for. i just dont see them settling for dj, but i would be happy if the lakers took dj for a 1st rounder
Cat Scratch Reader's not-so-creepy stalker

the Lakers are the worst 3pt shooting team in the league
worse than us even… DJ Augustin is one of the best 3pt shooting PG’s in the league
There isn’t any reason for them not to want DJ Augustin considering he’s even a defensive improvement over what they have now, which is saying alot.
Haha...
I’m as big of a fan of DJ as anybody, but the point on him being a defensive upgrade is arguable at best. Augustin allows a 16.6 PER out of opposing PGs (though his offense is good enough to exceed that number.) The Lakers’ PGs allow 14.4. They’d be winning here on offense, not defense.

fisher is statistically a better defender, blake is not
all three of them have a 107 or higher career d rating
DJ also turns the ball over less, he has a higher turnover% than Blake, but his Usage % is so much higher that it negates that
He’s also a better rebounder and distributer per 36 than either of them
However, I don’t think it’s too late for DJ to become a better defender with a coach who preaches defense and a leader (Kobe) who can show him, unlike Larry Brown who didn’t even play him.
That is ridiculous.
He’s younger, he’s faster, and he’s a better player in his own offensive abilities.

Walker had a fine game...
But there was once a young kid named Chris Duhon who had a triple-double against these very Bobcats. Anybody heard from him lately? Further, the triple-double in itself isn’t really all that useful going forward. We should certainly hope that our frontcourt will rebound well enough at some point that Walker won’t have to be selling out to hit the boards on both ends. The assists were the notable point, and along with Diaw, we showed better a distribution mindset than we have as a team for most of the year. But when Walker nearly doubled his career-high in assists (from six to eleven) in one game, well, that sort of screams fluke to me. I’d certainly like to see him repeat it.

THANK YOU MP
everybody thinks for some strange reason that I think these guys are gonna save the franchise. I dont. I just think they are upgrades and solid players to have on a roster for when the “team changer” comes along. We dont even know if BB will even be a Bobcat when that time comes. I will say this. Markeiff Morris is a PF. But watching some of his work, its plain to see he could bang with some centers in this league just as good as BB. And still SCORE when he gets the ball. Double Wammy….
"We dont even know if BB will even be a Bobcat when that time comes."
This has been one of my points that has been consistently ignored. When drafting raw players, they often don’t blossom until after their rookie deals have run out or been allowed to elapse. As such, we’re going to have spent a premium pick, money, and development time for a guy, but some other team could well reap the benefits.
Personal attacks are the weapon of the ignorant.

this is getting old
I hated the Kemba and BB picks, too. Granted, Markieff Morris would’ve also been a terrible pick with our spot. However, the picks are made. There’s nothing we can do about it. Instead of complaining (MP) or bragging (focus), why don’t you get over yourselves and at least try to remain optimistic that these players can turn the corner. Both of them have shown potential to be what their position in the draft expects them to be. Why choose to ignore that potential?
Or you can figure out, it doesn’t matter how much you complain and whine, MOST of us, as true FANS, you know, people who enjoy a sport and enjoy their team through thick and thin, are going to try and be optimisitc anyway. I mean, sure, Michael Jordan may not be a good manager, but at least he’s shown that, as an owner, he’s willing to make difficult, if unpopular, decisions because he thought they were the best for the franchise. They may not turn out to be, but I’d rather be priming for the lottery with Rich Cho picking than getting swept out of the Eastern conference playoffs in the first round with a losing record and then picking in the middle of the draft for a role player.
And why can't people like YOU realize there's a middle ground?
It IS possible to have an organically-grown team that is young, talented, and improving. A team with Emeka Okafor instead of Tyson Chandler would certainly have been better than the one that got crushed by Orlando, and a team with Okafor instead of Carroll and Najera right now would be significantly better, too.
Personal attacks are the weapon of the ignorant.

a middle ground to what
being realistic and being optimistic?
i didn’t think the bobcats would win 9 games this season, that’s realistic
but i’m optimistic that their current and upcoming draft picks are a step in the right direction
I like Emeka, but he’s only made the playoffs once in his career. Tyson Chandler went to the playoffs with that same NO team twice, and even won two series with them in 07-08 playoffs, getting 20 blocks in 12 games to go along with his rebounds a game
With Tyson Chandler, Chris Paul went deep into the playoffs and Raymond Felton made the playoffs.
With Emeka Okafor being the only primary difference, the same results were not met.
Ha...
Crediting Chandler for getting Felton to the playoffs is ridiculous. He was as much the cause of that as Flip Murray was.

Here's another few.
Thabo Sefalosha: Foreign player drafted 13th by the Bulls, he started just 40 games over two and a half seasons. Since, he’s become an every-game starter for one of the best teams in the West.
Kris Humphries: College player drafted 14th by the Jazz, largely irrelevant there, Toronto, and Dallas before becoming one of the league leaders in rebounding for the Nets.
Al Jefferson: High schooler drafted 15th by Boston, averaged only 10-7 there. After trade, has averaged 20-10.
JR Smith: High shooler drafted 18th by New Orleans, averaged only 9-2 before being traded. After trade, has averaged 14-3.
Dorrell Wright: High schooler drafted 19th by Miami, averaged only 6-3-1. Since signing with GS, has averaged 15-5-3.

by mives36 on Jan 30, 2012 11:31 AM EST via mobile up reply actions
Exactly.
I was actually wanting Brooks too but that dude is in New Jersey now and I’m happy with what I see from Biyombo. Bismack looks to be one of the few in the game that can shut the paint down while Brooks has been more on the level of Nick Young or Jamal Crawford just like I thought he would. And that’s not a bad thing. But it’s just a clearer indication that there are more Marshon Brooks’ in the NBA than there are Bismack’s. And because I’m a REAL Bobcat fan, I’m going to find the appreciation in that rather than continuously crying over the draft. I mean at what point does a person move on?

Lebron James was/is a once in a generation/lifetime freak athlete with insane physical abilities.

So now we're comparing Biyombo to LeBron?
I’d say finding a player of LeBron’s caliber is rather difficult.
Brook Lopez well exceeded Biyombo’s numbers as a rookie, including blocks. I don’t see anybody claiming he’s the next Dikembe Mutombo.

A rookie 19 year old who can become one of the league leaders in BPM despite their rawness and lack of consistent PT. Its hard to find a young big that scares teams into taking jump shots instead of penetrating the lane over and over like what happens when Mullens comes in. It’s hard to find a rookie that has PROVEN to be capable of playing Howard one on one.

How about Greg Stiemsma?
Heard of him? He’s ahead of Biyombo, despite being undrafted and playing even fewer minutes. He was part of a defensive effort that held Howard to a 4-15 shooting night.
Ekpe Udoh was last year’s wonder-rookie, finishing third despite fewer than 18 MPG. He helped hold Dwight Howard to 13 points one game! And Larry Sanders was impressive in blocks/48, too. Heard him being touted for any All-Defensive teams this year.
Wait, maybe you were talking about Hasheem Thabeet! He was terribly raw as a rookie and has nearly played himself out of the league, but he was certainly blocking shots at a high rate that first year.
Do I need to find more incredible block rate leaders who have done little since, or will you stop pretending that Biyombo and his one good game will become the greatest defensive player the league has ever seen.

They were referring to the two seasons of ACB play....
after the stellar 08-09 season in which his shooting %s dropped, his scoring averages dropped by 4 points and his assists dropped from the league leading 6.1 to 4.4 for two straight seasons.
During that time scouts began to question him as a potential NBA PG. All of that we now know to be unimportant because he is blowing people off the court with his passing and shooting.

unless you’re comparing BB to Darko, who by the way, is still contributing in the leauge on a regular basis

ummm
we have different interpretation of stars
in the nba you have bench warmers, role players, stars, superstars, megastars
a star is someone more than tha role player (or better)
I count 27 stars on that list.
plus
how many of those are second round picks
and i wasn’t comparing bb to darko, i was pointing out the fact that, despite his status as the worst bust in nba history, he’s still in the contributing, which is more than a lot of “busts” could say
The BUSTS that still contribute
have one thing that you cant teach. They are 7ft. All those guys arent busts. But some of them are. The BUSTS that contribute are 7ft. BB is 6’9. And whats this ranking system you have. Benchwarmers, roleplayers, stars and superstars…thats it. What is this “mega star” you have created to move players up one notch that should be role players?
carmelo anthony is a superstar
but he isn’t in lebron james’ league
james is a megastar
How, after 20 games, can you say a player is a bust in the NBA? Of course, I don’t much care what you say anyway, since 90% of it is utter rubbish.
And how many of them have 7'7 wing span?

Biyombo's standing reach is 9'3.42"
Dwight Howard for example has a standing reach of 9’3.5"
Last I checked, you blocked shots and rebounded with your hands, not the top of your head.

sarcasm noted
beyond that, even a guy who is able to start every now and then is pretty good coming out of high school when you compare that to players coming out of europe or coming out of college
i mean, how many drafted players actually last beyond five seasons in the nba
Plenty who are picked high.
That pedigree alone keeps players in the league when they have no business doing so otherwise. See: Diop, DeSagana.

You realize this is the Okafor / Dwight Howard argument again
I’m not comparing Biyombo to either of those players.
However, given what we know about each of them, would you rather have drafted Okafor or Howard?
Because at the time Howard was a pure potential pick and Okafor was a “better player.” Biyombo is a very young, “potential” pick.
Your logic is confusing. We’re not a contender, taking chances on young talent is the game we’re in right now.
Would you rather take Darko Milicic or Dwyane Wade?

Unless you don’t think a double double in 20 minutes against Dwight Howard is production. Or having 4 games with at least 4 blocks isn’t production. Or two games scoring in double figures isn’t production.

soooo
BB who can block well and is learning to rebound well, both hallmarks of a good center in the NBA, is a bust b/c he only has “one nba-caliber ability”, but Kemba Walker is also a bust when he has shown the ability to play good defense with good defensive awareness, score, create his own shot and REBOUND better than 90% of PG’s in the NBA, and he’s ALSO a bust?
Walker has NOT shown good defense.
Augustin has been a better statistical defender this season than Walker, and he is perpetually reamed for his defense. And Walker’s rebounding ability will mean about as much to him long term as Biyombo’s three-point shooting ability.
Personal attacks are the weapon of the ignorant.

sorry, wrong
Kemba’s defensive stats are better across the board than Augustin
107 d-rating, .02 d win shares (augustin has negative d win shares for our crap team), more steals
Kemba also gets more steals per 36 than Kyrie Irving, with 1 point higher (worse) d-rating (106 vs 107)
Kemba’s d-rating as a starter is 105
oh and
walker HAS shown good defense and defensive awareness, i didn’t suggest he was a good defender, i said he has shown the ability to, and when i see him stepping in lines or poking out crossovers, that’s called good defense, which he does do
he doesn’t know where he’s supposed to be on the court all the time, but, just like irving, he’s a rookie
We all obviously expect him to keep it up.
I agree that it could be a fluke, but it could also be a sign of things to come. We just have to wait and see.

You realize
At some point, he had to get a new career high in assists. Just because it was a large jump does not mean it was a fluke. It shows what he is capable of and there isn’t any reason to believe he can never do it again.
Gerald Wallace once had 10 assists in a game.
I’m surprised he hasn’t been dropping double-assist games left and right. It showed what he was capable of and there wasn’t any reason to believe he could never do it again.

Gerald Wallace isn't a PG
10 assists from a Forward (that’s not a point-forward) is more flukey than it coming from a PG.
And it took Kemba a whole 4 games starting at the point to get double digit assists. Shame on him for not accomplishing that feat sooner.
It took Rondo a whole 36 games (with double digit minutes) to have his first 10 assist game. Was that a fluke too?
And his totals for that four-game run...
19 assists (4.75/gm.), 15 TOs (3.75/gm.) You’re impressed with that?

If a PG passes to a player who isn’t ready, is out of position, or simply doesn’t gain control and has it stolen from them, the to goes to the PG.

But only slightly. And they haven’t had nearly the rash injuries we had.
All that being said, Kemba Walker is no Kyrie Irving, statistically or otherwise.

8 is almost 200% more than 3

Decidedly though, there is something amazing about watching it, over and over again, in a depressing sort of way.
kinda stupid to say it was a fluke. a fluke assist game would be like…playing the exact same way but due to some kind of lucky shots or something, he happened to get more lucky assists. but it wasnt like that. he actually played like a true PG last night, mostly made the right plays, ran the fast break well, used his driving speed to kick out to open guys. there was nothing “flukey” about it. he ran a horrible roster and made them look pretty good last night, should have won comfortably. the only actual fluke by definition would have to be the combined failure of almost everyone on the free throw line

Anyone see a parallel between Kemba and Wallace in regards to rebounding?
Both have a knack for getting to the right spot. They both elevate their game to make up for the deficiencies of the players around them. And, I’m guessing, Kemba would also see a large decline in his rebounds if he was playing on another team with an actual frontcourt that can rebound.
Sure, although one must acknowledge that rebounding out of an SF/PF is certainly more valuable than a PG.

The opportunities to rebound are directly correlated to the position one plays. You want your best rebounders in the post where they’ll have more of a chance to use that skill.

Lets send
Hendo to Minny for their 1st (LA Clippers) and 2nd Rd picks….they can throw in Ellington or Johnson if need be…
If we can trade
Hendo for picks and/or an expiring, that puts us at 20.5million coming off the books for this offseason. That gives us alot of space to move around. Plus we’ll probably end up with 2 decent numbered draft picks. So lets say we get 4th and the Minny pick is (worse case) 15th. We could possibly end up with….4th: {Barnes, Jeremy Lamb or MKG) and 15 {Meyers Leonard, Doron Lamb or Terrence Ross/Jones}…Sorry. I’d let him go for that.

Doron Lamb/Reggie Will
MKG/Maggs/

Hendo is one of the few guys (if not the only) guy on the team that can net us a lottery (or close to lottery pick). We must. And the Cho database picks, Im guessing will be pretty good also. Please explain your logic to me and defend your position
Above you argue that BB is a bust because he’s a player with a lot of potential, but raw NBA-ready skills. He is also very young @ 19-20 years old and had little preparation for his first NBA season.
Then here you argue that we need to trade one of our most (if not the most) productive players on both ends of the floor for a probably middling 1st round pick.
Then you recommend that we spend that pick on a guy who is talented but also young and somewhat of a “potential” pick as well, having been moderately successful at the college level for half a season and having ideal physical tools.
So which of these tactics are the Bobcats going to use moving forward? What if MKG only gets 5 minutes per game next season, am I allowed to call him a bust?
Will we spend time developing players Focus’s likes only to ship them out at age 25 in hopes of scoring more under-developed talent in the draft?
To clarify, you just made this argument above:
Potential should NOT be placed over production…
Is Henderson not currently a significant part of our “production”?
God no!!!
Not because of Hendo….
Simply because if we have MORE rookies next year for you to get pissed about and tell us over and again who we SHOULD have drafted, which is made easy due to the fact that by the time the draft has arrived, you will have suggested EVERY player as a possible Bobcat impact maker.
Then we get to hear all year about why drafting BPA is dumb, and how picking Festus Ezeli at #3 was what we needed to do…..because I watched that one game when his team played the Bobcats and he totally outrebounded Mullens fierce!!

It's time we face facts
Henderson is a shooting guard, just not a very good one. I expect my Shooting Guard to do just that: guard shooters. Henderson is a good defender, but is he first team all-defense? No. Unless he is able to shape up and be a great shooting GUARD, I say we ship him off for the autographed Tamar Slay jersey. Otherwise, he’s worthless to us.
And while I’m at it, I’ve had enough of our point guards letting the other team point. Come on Kemba, it’s not hard. When you see someone on the other team point, go up and slap them. Break their pointing finger if necessary.
These are the main two reasons why we are in last place in the NBA. Until we get players in those two positions who understand their role, we will not get into the playoffs.

Come to think of it, could we get Tamar Slay back?
He’s probably somewhere in Croatia, so it’s not likely he;d leave that deal to come back to the NBA. But he was one hell of a great pointer.

Averaging 11-4…or significantly better than Biyombo or Ajinca ever did in Europe. Just sayin’.

Rufus on Fire in 2014:
Only 2 people remain: MP and Focus. Everyone else was banned for personal attacks. The only exception? Ben. He banned himself after watching MP and Focus argue for 3 months straight on the value of Julius Randle.
Charlotte, however, is on an upswing. They are on pace to get 15 wins! The new GM Focus has just released a statement: “We are going to do things the right way. Potential is overrated. I intend on drafting only players who can make an immediate impact. Rest assured that with me at the helm, I will take a Moneyball approach to building a team. Also, I’m trading Biyombo to the first team that calls and offers to stock our pepsi vending machines for 3 years.”

“Finally the F has retuurrrnnnned to CHA!!! (cheers) We are gonna do this thang like its ’sposed to be done! I intend on making a team that the FANS can be excited about. I intend on building a team that would be appealing to other players!!! NO ONE PLAYER IS BIGGER THAN THE TEAM!!! I Promise to make draft picks that make sense. You do realize that Biyombo was a textbook "Cho database" pick, right?
He claims to have been lusting after him for years.

Also I love that in Focus's scenario, we simply fill half of our rotation with "Cho Database players"
So we’ll just pick up 4 faceless, nameless yet productive players that no one else is trying to sign and have no downside.
Plausible.
I think someone needs to lay off the NBA 2k12.
No matter what you say
our team will be full of CHO database players anyway. We already have 3. We could say 4 but Im not gonna count DJ White. So that has nothing to do with me. Oh and I serious doubt his “database” full of “nameless” players. Im sure Lebron James and Kobe’s name are in numerous blocks on that spreadsheet.
LOL@nameless players…WE ARE BOBCATS FANS. We already have a team full of nameless players…
2K12.
That’s all it is.

Is that the same or different as "fool-proof?"

How about this:
If the team makes a decision you don’t like, you can voice your displeasure for a bit. But in the end, it does no good to dwell on everything the organization does that you don’t like. Sometimes you just have to suck it up and get over it. We’re not getting Okafor back. We’re not getting Jackson back. Kemba and Biyombo are our draft picks. No amount of complaining is ever going to change that. All the incessant complaining does is make an already rough season even more displeasing.
Not to me.
If you have a problem with it, you can go elsewhere. I don’t mind. No amount of slurping of them every time they have a good possession or quarter or game will change who they will and won’t be, either.
Personal attacks are the weapon of the ignorant.

Yeah but it makes the experience easier and more fun
If nothing you say fixes anything, why choose to be a pessimist when being an optimist yields the same nonexistent results while making this nightmare we call an NBA season easier to watch.
Because I have enough contentment with my life that the Bobcats' follies aren't ruining my mood on a daily basis like they are you?
