Charlotte Bobcats at Washington Wizards preview -- Game 19

Today's Tunes:

"Memory Loss" - Deltron 3030

Game Overview: These two teams are abominations. The Bobcats just got destroyed by a mediocre Knicks squad. The Wizards just fired Flip Saunders after a 2-15 start. But that is just the beginning of Washington's problems. The Wizards are a bad team with an often-inefficient offense that sometimes struggles to move the ball. John Wall isn't having an outstanding sophomore season, but it's not bad. Nick Young and Jordan Crawford are terrific at taking shots (though not nearly as terrific at making them). Andray Blatche is the most-hated man in Washington because of his lazy shot-selection, and in general, all-around laziness. JaVale McGee is a very talented defensive-minded center, but lacks focus on offense.

Hell, most of the Wizards lack focus, period. Same can be said for the Bobcats.

Star-divide

Key Matchup: Gerald Henderson vs. Nick Young -- Although Young is only shooting 40.2 percent, he's the Wizards' most effective scoring threat. His versatility on offense is best limited by his own shot selection, but Henderson's defense could also go a long way to forcing him into a rough shooting night.

Boy oh boy

Let’s see if Silas can follow up with his terrific coaching display against NY! I keed, I keed, but in all seriousness, if the Cat’s lose this game to the Wizards (which I think will happen because despite their focus, the Wizards have big men that block out, rebound, set picks, play defense, etc, the Cat’s frontcourt is a joke), Silas should be immediately fired. Point blank. If he isn’t, it shows Jordan is completely clueless.

The ball is round so is the rim and the world. anything can happen if you play hard.

Scalpers Night Off (As Ernie Johnson would say)

This should be a MUST win for Silas, and Silas only. We’re a 3 win team about to play a 2 win team. So if we lose, we’re truly the worst team in the NBA. The Wizards fired their coach because their Knuckleheads wouldn’t play for him. We don’t even have Knuckleheads (outside of Thomas sort of)! So why should we keep this coaching staff outside of saving money?

I live in Virginia so I’m trying to go to the game tonight. I’ll be the guy that gets kicked out for cursing out Silas…

by DIRTYSMAC on Jan 25, 2012 8:09 AM EST reply actions

Why are we blaming Silas

Im sure he’d rather have DJ White playing. We need a new FRONT OFFICE. The front office is showcasing players who values wont increase if they has two 40pt games. Face it. They are making Silas play Thomas and Diaw so much. Im sure thats not his call. He cant override the FO. And plus I think we are overvaluing the players we have. Hendo is a 6th man at best. This just may be the only team in the entire league that he’d start for. Kemba is good. He’ll get better. DJA is good. Hopefully he’ll be the missing piece in Kobe getting his 6th ring. BB had a couple good games. So what. McGuire had 17rebs one game. We dont have much. Mullens is ok. He’s lost his fire since BB started getting more minutes. DJ White is good but he’s probably gone after this season. DJA is gone. Maggette sucks. I like Reggie Will but is he gonna return to form? Kemba is the only sure thing…

by focuslja on Jan 25, 2012 8:38 AM EST reply actions

You're not very bright

if you think trying to get value out of Thomas and Diaw means our front office is incompotent and needs to be changed.

People also aren’t very bright if they think Silas is at fault for whats going on here.

I think someone said a few weeks back

SUNK COSTS. Its over. Just let Diaw walk. Thats 9mil for us to spend. Hell Johnny Flynn and Dragic have just been added to the PGs that can play behind Kemba. Thats not bad at all. And neither will cost much. Tyrus is also a done deal. He’s worse than Diaw. His contract is so bad and HE is so bad, that whatever we get for him TODAY is the same we’ll get for him in the next 3yrs. He’s done. His deal was terrible from day one (well to me)…its a loss Cats fans. Its a loss. Let it go. So I do think its a very incompetent move to try to milk a curtain. Its nothing there. Nothing. If we do decide to trade TT, it’ll probably be for something WORSE than him…

I just want an expiring for him the way he's playing at this point.

And who are we gonna get?

We shouldve just took Posey or Jermaine O’neal when we had the chance. But now O’neal is better than him. Hakeem Warrick is better than him. Who wants to keep TT for 3 more years? No one..

Thats the only trade I see. Or Drew Gooden. Anything is better than Tyrus. I just dont see us getting anyone that DOESNT stagnate the plan back. AMNESTY HIM.

I'm with you on this one

1) Amnesty Tyrus this summer. Then Maggette, Carroll, and Diop roll off next summer and the house is finally clean.

2) Just let Diaw expire. I wouldn’t take any players for him but if we could haggle anything (2nd round pick), just do it and get it over with. The $9 million coming off our books is the most important thing.

3) I loved your curtain milking reference. The only time I’ve laughed harder recently was when Diop threw that rocket off the glass from 4 feet last night.

As things stand, we'll probably be amnestying TT.

However, we still have half a season to play, so we’ll wait and see. Might as well keep playing, no reason to let him rot on the bench.

If we can’t trade Diaw by the deadline, then and only then would I advocate letting him rot on the bench. Because at that point, he really is a sunk cost.

We won't be useing the amnesty clause on Tyrus any time soon

I could maybe see the Cats amnestying someone close to the end of their deal IF the right deal came along and they needed the room, but otherwise we are not a cashed up club that can afford to pay someone to go away.

Its not hard to post...and if it is dont

Its not knee jerk or “unimformed”…I’ve always said Hendo is a 6th man and nothing more. ALWAYS. Since my first day on the site. So I dont see why all of a sudden its a “rash comment”…Its nothing “unimformed” about knowing that Diaw and TT are pretty much WORTHLESS at this point. Diaw is better just walking. Whats “unimformed” is this hope that TT will somehow reach this nonexistant “upside” that everyone has been defending his terrible-ness for. They are done. Diaw moreso just doesnt want to be on a rebuilding team. And Tyrus sucks. So I was actually defending Silas bc he has NOTHING to work with. DJA doesnt want to be here. Mullens cant hit crap since BB has been starting. (not to mention he has one Dante Cunningham-like game and he’s gonna be “a future center for years to come”)…

No its not.

We stink. He isnt even our best player. He plays hard. I’ll give him that. So does Diop. He tries. He just isnt what I consider a starting SG. Cleveland is the only other team with a worse SG. He’s not bad but I just dont think he’ll start anywhere else other than us. No one would trade their starting SG for Gerald Henderson. NO ONE. And its a few teams that wouldnt trade their bench SG for Hendo. Just a few but thats bad nonetheless…

Facts from my post above

1. We stink (right or wrong)
2. Hendo isnt our best player.
3. Hendo plays hard
4. Diop plays hard
5. No one would trade their starting SG for Hendo (other than Cleveland)
6. A few teams wouldnt trade their bench SG for Hendo…

And tell me would you trade them for Hendo is you were the other team? Hendo isnt our best player. Diop does play hard. He just isnt a good player. And Orlando aint trading JJ, OKC aint trading Harden, Houston aint trading Lee, Sac aint trading Thornton, POR aint trading Matthews (more than 2 is a few) so that ends that one…

Orlando ain’t trading JJ? That’s where the discussion stops. You start talking out your ass about what every team will do and won’t do and start talking about how we all “KNOW” player X is better than player Y and should be getting more playing time.

Technically PanthersFTW is right.

Claiming something is fact because you believe but have provided not data, statistics or relevant quotes/citations to back it up does not make it fact.

Once you provide us with evidence to support your claims in the form of data/stats/quotes/citations, then people might be a little less inclined to blow off your arguments.

by Aisander D on Jan 25, 2012 12:19 PM EST up reply actions

I'll give you an example:

The Atlantic ocean is actually red. FACT.
Diaw should be an All-Star. FACT.

If I had something to back those statements up with besides off-handed correlations, then we could have a real debate, using evidence as a lynch-pin for the conversation.

And if they did trade (just to get this out of the way)

it would have nothing to do with actual talent. It may be for a salary dump or a locker room issue but not for production…Tell MJ to take his cheap ass back to Washington and mentor Hendo there…get some players that can play ALREADY.

now before you say “He’s better than PLAYER A” ask yourself “would they trade player A to get Hendo?”

they arent regressing

they actually play on good teams. Or play with other SGs that are competent enough to give them a break. Or play with other players that are competent enough as to where they dont have to try to do everything. Yes some of them are over 30 and their teams still wouldnt trade for Hendo.

First of all, eliminate the players on the wrong side of 30. WE WOULD NOT TRADE FOR THEM. Second of all, take Nick Young, Marshon Brooks, and OJ Mayo off the list. NONE OF THEM PLAY DEFENSE. But you don’t realize the New Jersey and Washington are just as shitty in the end, so I guess that means absolutely nothing.

You guys obviously only read Bobcats news

Mayo is the biggest name on the trade market right now. He is the piece that a few teams need to push them farther in the playoffs. Memphis wanting to trade him had alot to do with attitude and the fight with Toney Allen and a few other players. It had nothing to do with his production. Yalk keep saying McRoberts like he didnt show up in the playoffs last year. In that case, Gerald Wallace got traded for Joel Pryzbilla…

Here we go

He had been fought by the deadline. He was on the block had NOTHING TO DO WITH PRODUCTION. It was attitude. It was this player named Demarcus Cousins that was about to get traded too. It had nothing to do with Production. He had a bad attitude before the fight…stop making it seem like they wanted McRoberts so bad. McRoberts was an expiring contract. They werent fixated

they wanted a pick and an expiring contract. Is that so hard to understand. The Anthony Morrow deal includes a PICK. Thats who the NETS offered. Not who Memphis took. You act like Morrow is so much worse than any player on our team. I’d trade Hendo for Morrow and a first rd pick in a heartbeat. But the Nets wouldnt. Now did you not see the other articles stating the numerous teams that are trying to deal. Or the fact tha Indy “covets” him? Be real. How many other players have been mentioned like that other than Dwight and DWill? Cant be that bad if teams are offering deals right?

Do you even read the shit you post?

The deal for JORDAN FARMAR includes a pick and cash, the deal for MORROW doesn’t. And I’m sure NJ wouldn’t trade Morrow and a pick for Hendo because that pick will be AT THE TOP OF THE DRAFT JUST LIKE OURS despite us not having a Derron Williams, or a Brook Lopez, or a great Marshon Brooks. Yes, I seen numerous articles about teams trying to deal. But that doesn’t mean shit. It’s what they are willing to give up to get him. You don’t think a shit load of teams are willing to deal for Henderson if all we asked was a 2nd round pick? Or Kemba is all we asked for was a bag of blue ranch Doritos? Come the hell on Focus.

Jax? Really?

Here is an update from Hollinger:

The worst part of Jackson’s start was that the Bucks were pretending he was still good — most notably at the end of the Sacramento game, when they called a Hero Iso play for him that resulted in a bad miss and capped an unlikely Kings comeback. I don’t think that will be a problem anymore, now that the Bucks benched him for missing a shootaround and have seen him hit another bad slump. Jackson is 10 for his last 40 from the field and hasn’t scratched in two of the past three games. For the season he’s at 36.6 percent from the floor and a ghastly 28.8 percent on 3s; even with the league’s No. 23 offense, Milwaukee has better options. Of course, the shooting isn’t the worst part — it’s the turnovers. Cap’n Jack has the worst turnover ratio of any shooting guard with more than 150 minutes, as he has a high bounce and his lack of zip constantly has him in traffic.

Slow and steady. With Okafor’s huge contract, Wallace’s contract, Felton’s contract, and all of these other contracts on the damn books. Face it, we’ve NEVER been in position to be great. Mediocre at best. We missed out on greatness when we had to take Okafor over Wallace. We missed out on greatness when we didn’t trade Felton and May for Paul. That’s the shit to complain about. You take the team’s failings over the past few weeks and the first name you want to bring up is HENDERSON even though he’s been one of the more consistent pieces over the stretch. I never said one of them did suck.

I said they were all due to make big money and tie down the cap. It’s the same with every team every year Focus. Team’s TRY to rebuild through the draft but when those drafted players start wanting 10 milllion +, you begin losing room to IMPROVE. A SG that didn’t cost an arm and a leg would’ve pushed us to 6th seed at best. It’s simple as that. You either have a STAR or a deep team. We weren’t going to EVER be very deep with three starters taking up over half of the salary cap and getting mid round picks every year.

As soon as next year (thats the NC State fan in me) this team will be completely different and better based on experience and finally having the ability to do things the right way…not the Larry Brown “right way” but the right way in turning this ship to what it should be.

Not being NY doesn't have anything to do with it.

The simple fact that Boris, Maggette, Diop, Carroll, and Najera are still on the roster is ENOUGH. They are taking up valuable cap room and need to expire. Crazy how you think a team is supposed to eliminate every bad contract on the books in one year.

Diop could've been gone with the amnesty,

and we could’ve been paying someone like Earl Barron $5 million just to make up the space. All this time and you still don’t understand the use of the amnesty. What are Diop and Tyrus contributing? Well, though I’m not particularly fond of either player, one is severely overweight and one is severely underweight right now due to injury. Tyrus is nowhere near as garbage as he’s been playing. He’ll see better days. Diop is just a mess that will end once his contract ends. If we FIND THE NEED TO AMNESTY HIM by finding a free agent we want to clear cap for, then so be it. Otherwise, you’re wasting time tying up future money to overpay a mediocre player. You still call Maggette a bad move even though Bismack is already one of the best shot blockers in the league and Jax is in Milwaukee bitching. We didn’t take on ANY extra years so explain yourself. And I can’t speak for anything on Tyrus getting playing time. That is one thing I agree with you on. He should be full strength before he is back on the court.

How long have u been a fan?

Not questioning are you a fan. But how long? Who cares who the GM is when we started rebuilding? The point is MJ has had his hand in decisions since we have been a franchise and we have sucked since the beginning. Im just fed up with watching us lose. Especially in this fashion. Its funny that we think that anybody in the draft is gonna be good enough to build around. We are relying too much on the draft. Cho has made some mistakes also. And he is taking too long to act on some moves that shouldve been done. Thus killing the buzz we had. Diaw shoudve been gone after his first couple of good games. And DJ shouldve been gone too. Its no move that we can make at the deadline that would be so much better than any move that we couldve made already.

we have to rebuild through drafting as what the Oklahoma did and I believe that Rich Cho has a good nose to find that talents, but we also need a veteran like Tim Duncan, Billups or Baron Davis to teach these young guys how to play the nba level, that is if we can sign them on minimum veteran salary.

I know facts aren't welcome here...

but last night, Hendo only scored 2 points (free throws) in the fourth quarter. His last made field goal was midway through the 3rd quarter, when the game was only (I know) a 13 point spread.

Against New Jersey, Hendo made a 3 to cut the deficit to four, halfway through the 4th quarter. Those were his last points in the game.

Against Chicago, Hendo’s last made shot was early in the 4th (about 11 minutes left) to cut the deficit to 9. Plenty of time left there.

He scored 8 points in the 4th against Orlando, where we were never more than 10 points behind…

and he made a free throw against Cleveland, his final score of the game, to cut the deficit to 6 with about 6 minutes left in the 4th.

I swear I don’t want any part of the never ending debate going on here (although it has been a very interesting read), but to say Hendo has been getting “garbage points” during our recent losing streak is simply inaccurate.

If I say that Diaw deserves another shot as a starter, will that even things out?

No; the stache is there.

It’s just vertical (because it’s all abstract and artsy and stuff).

Lol.

Someone makes a legitimate argument and there’s no reply by Focus? Surprised? Nah.

Do you know focus reminds me of?

If any of you have seen the South Park episode that bashes the history channel: focus reminds me of the History Channel in that episode. He states his opinions as concrete facts, and then uses his own “facts” to support his own argument.

Anyone else into conspiracy theories?

Because I am starting to think Jordan is whispering into Silas’ ear that we need to lose games and pick first in the draft…. Scary stuff huh?

Not really.

It makes for an interesting rumor to throw around the water cooler, but we just aren’t that good, especially with four of our (would be) starters out injured.

talking about running a franchise.....

why not start at making a team. like what the sixers, toronto, denver etc. are doing.

The ball is round so is the rim and the world. anything can happen if you play hard.
