Diaw on Trade Block
Rick Bonnell @rick_bonnell 11m Reply Retweet Favorite · Open
Yes, Boris Diaw is being made available in trade. But Bobcats wouldn't take back a bad contract to make a deal. I wonder about Suns.
This is according to Bonnell, one can only hope!!

Pipe dream
Boris and DJ Aug for Gortat and Dudley. Pretty close in terms of $ but I doubt the Suns would want to do it.
I wouldn't do that trade.
Boris is expiring, and Augustin is growing on me.
He will not be here next year
I wish people would stop acting like DJ wants to be here and that we are willing to pay him what others are, He is on an expiring deal and yes I know he is a RFA but we are not going to match any teams offer. The FO is behind Kemba and he is our future PG, so what does that mean? We will not pay DJ what other teams looking for a starting PG will pay him. And no this is not like the Panthers with smash and dash you cannot have two starting caliber PG’s and expect one to be ok. So will everyone stop acting like its stupid to trade DJ because its stupid to keep him and not get anything for him when the season ends.
Double Trouble.

I tweeted Bonnell
about the trade and he doesnt think the Cats want to take back any salary, which might hinder a trade.

@Whenry77 @adamlevitan Teams will want to dump a bad contract on the Bobcats. That’s a deal-stopper.
He replied to me again.
What I asked Bonnell

@rick_bonnell Would the Cats take back salary if they can get a 1st in the deal?? Two 1st round picks in this draft would be sweet.
How he responded.

@Whenry77 It’s a matter of how much salary and for how long. Hard to say what they’d do hypothetically.
Look at this...
@rick_bonnell Any rumors for where boris would go? and dj augustin trade rumors?
@RS_KembaFan1 I don’t see D.J. Augustin going anywhere.
Panther Pride 'till I die.
You heard that DJ is on the block too?
Or that Diaw isnt on the block?

I don't really validate Bonnel's opinions very much.
He’s always been decent at reporting news straight from the source, not so much competent about what the team’s plans are.

We could get a first
but we would have to take back another bad deal and I doubt Cho would want to do that. Just have to wait and see.

I want nothing to do
With Artest or Metta or whatever.
by Bobcats_Ball on Jan 16, 2012 7:41 PM EST up reply actions
For a first id do it
He could provide a good veteran and winning attitude. I dont know if his contract is bad but as long as its a pick in this draft id do it. I personally do not expect the Lakers to be that late in the first.
Not a chance
He still has 2 years and $15 million left after this year and he is a headcase.

Now your talking
That would be a decent deal. I hope to move Diaw and DJ but we basically need to move Diaw for whatever we get. Even a 2nd imo.
by Bobcats_Ball on Jan 16, 2012 7:58 PM EST up reply actions
Meh
Blake has 2 more years at $4 million per, which seems a bit steep to me.

I don't know.
We’ll need a big backup and a veteran to lead the bench to shake the third quarter freezes. Four million seems fair for a proven, competent point guard on a good team. On the Bobcats, you’re right, it might be too much to spend right now.
...
Why would you want to give up D.J. for the Lakers first round pick? It’ll be late in the draft and Augustin has been the team’s best player.
by BrandonBecker on Jan 17, 2012 12:30 AM EST up reply actions
Because we will not get a much higher pick
And DJ is not going to be here next year we will not pay him what he will look for and other teams will
Boris for Ron Artest and a first, maybe.
For DJ? Hell no.

As a Suns fan I would do that.

Hell, I'd be willing to do that.
If we can get a young, cheap player like Lopez for DIAW then I’d jump on it in a second.

Ohh...this is total rosterbation..
DJ, Boris and a 2nd rounder to Utah for Paul Millsap. Utah needs a PG(Devin Harris is ehh..) and Derrick Favors needs to start
Panther Pride 'till I die.
No.
We’re not in the business to be trading for players. Maybe, in the right circumstances for Diaw, but never for DJ.

Where do I sign?
A second unit of Higgins, Morrow, Williams, White, Biyombo? I think that works pretty well. Morrow and Williams shared the floor some in Golden State and had some success as a pair.

Morrow and Williams can't play D for shit, but their deadly 3 pt. shooting makes up for it
Panther Pride 'till I die.
Def would take Morrow for Diaw
Having a young shooter is always good. And if we are gonna speed up tempo. It makes it even better. Plus havin shooters makes Kembas ability to penetrate THAT much dangerous
I think everyone on here would do that.
Doesn’t make any sense for the Nets though.

Actually it does
Diaw expires. Morrow is two years 8mil. So next year it would be 4mil to a player that has lost his spot to Brooks already and really doesnt fit the mold of the NJ Nets team anyhow. SO that frees up 4mil dollars more to sign Dwight AND Williams if need be.
Just was over at BSOTD
Talking to the guys over there and here are some ideas they had
Lopez, Childress, 2nd rounder for Boris… which I thought was decent but Childress has a bad contract
Telfair, Lopez, S.Brown for Boris and a 2nd
And my favorite Lopez, Warrick, 2nd rounder for Boris
I would love to get Lopez in a Diaw trade
But I dont know why the Suns would want to do that. But if we could and get a 2nd back as well, I would be happy.
by Bobcats_Ball on Jan 17, 2012 10:47 AM EST up reply actions
The other pieces are nice
But no way do we take Childress’ contract. Not a chance.

by Bring Back Primoz on Jan 17, 2012 5:38 PM EST up reply actions
Childress is the deal breaker.
I understand it from the Sun’s perspective, and it’s not a terrible deal for us, but Childress’s contract just does not fit into what we’re doing.
I don’t know enough about Telfair or Warrick’s contracts to comment, but if they’re not egregious, I’d be all over that.

Good.
We’re out of playoff contention pretty much already so there is no point in keeping this going. As long as we don’t take on a bad contract, it’s fine. I’m hoping we can make a move similar to the one that netted us DJ White for Nazr last year.

Would anyone be happy if
We gave Boris to LAL for their trade exception from the Odom deal? I have read a few Lakers fans on twitter speculate that it might happen and the trade exception is supposedly right near 9 million??
I wouldnt mind it to just clear him off, they might have to throw in a pick or something as well though.
The problem is (and I hate these semantics)
You can’t combine trade exceptions and they are very picky on the dollars. The trade exception for Odom is $8.9 million and Diaw makes $9 million, so it doesn’t work.

Really?
Thats crazy the NBA wouldnt allow that deal if its only 100 grand apart.

It is insane
But that’s how trade exceptions work.

It's almost close to perfect.
It’s insane. That would be a win-win for both teams, it’s really sad.

What would the trade exception do for us?
I thought we already had one available, actually. I’m just really confused as to what benefit we would get from getting another trade exception.
by Tim Rudisill on Jan 18, 2012 10:37 PM EST up reply actions
$$$$$$$.
It would allow the Lakers to simply take Diaw off our hands, meaning we wouldn’t have to pay the rest of his contract, which is even better than simply expiring.

Martel Webster
or Wesley Johnson is our best bet. They are both pretty young. And whoever takes Boris is looking to clear some bread off the books. And FOR US…its best if we get someone thats getting paid around 4 or 5 mil over the next two season…Morrow, Webster, Wes Johnson, Thabeet & TWill , Casspi & Gibson, Randy Foye/Gomes,
You're barking up the right tree
If we trade Diaw and have to take back salary (which is likely), we should get a young player who expires in 2013. I wouldn’t take on more than one extra year for anyone because our cap space will be enormous in the summer of 2013 and I wouldn’t hinder those options.
I also don’t think it’s the worst thing in the world to let him expire.
6 feet of Smooth
by Bring Back Primoz on Jan 17, 2012 10:09 PM EST up reply actions
no its def not a bad idea to let him walk
And we must remember that we still have two trade exceptions. We can grab a couple players with those. Its a whole extra dynamic to this trade thing. So its a few things we could use to “sweeten the pot”. Im likin the Thabeet and TWill
T Will as our backup SF would be epic.

Hell, if it's just him and Maggette and Brown on the roster,
I’d actually prefer him starting.

I don't see us getting any player like that for Diaw.
If we can though, it’d be more than worth it.

Diaw is and expiring contract
its suprising how much that is worth. Even James Posey wouldve been worth something if he hadnt been cut. Lets say its a player thats getting paid 4.5mil this season and 5.2mil next season. If you trade that player for Diaw, then once this season is over, you have all that money off the books. So you have 5.2mil off the books to makes some moves in free agency. Esp if the player isnt a major part of your future (Wes Johnson, Webster, Hakim Warrick, Thabeet, Morrow, Dudley and a whole list of others…)
