Charlotte Bobcats vs. Golden State Warriors preview -- Game 13
Today's Tunes:
"Dollaz & Sense" - Blakroc ft. RZA & Pharoahe Monch
Game Overview: Finally the Bobcats arrive at the end of their back-to-back-to-back. So far, they've lost to an Atlanta Hawks squad sans Al Horford, Kirk Hinrich and Tracy McGrady; and a quite bad Pistons team. In the five past games (all losses), the Bobcats have scored a whopping 79.2 points per game. And here's some more stats to chew on: the Bobcats are taking the most 16-23 foot field goal attempts in the NBA and are giving up the most shots at the rim (via hoopdata.com). That is a recipe for disaster.
Looking at Golden State, their roster is a bit of a mess. Mark Jackson wants to be more defensive-minded, but he's still got mostly remnants of the Don Nelson era. As such, there is a slight improvement on defense (Defensive efficiency of 102.2, compared to 107.6 in 2010-11), but they're still in the bottom five defenses. And then there's the mess resulting from injuries. Stephen Curry's sprained his ankle only a billion times, so he'll be out tonight (that'll hurt sales). Joining him is Kwame Brown, who was playing pretty well before a pectoral tear.
Monta Ellis leads the Warriors with his incredible speed and finishing ability. David Lee mans the paint as the power forward with Andris Biedrins at center. The rest of the team is basically rookies and young fellers at all positions.
Key Matchup: Gerald Henderson vs. Monta Ellis -- Teams are currently eating the Bobcats alive in the paint. Charlotte needs Henderson to keep Ellis out of where he is best. David Lee is also a very real threat with the Bobcats' weakness in the interior.

Just when I thought it could not get any worse
Ben posts the article for tonight’s game. I’m glad I don’t have time to watch these for the most part. Simply reading about the games/results gives me enough heartburn.
:(
I haven't missed a game yet!
One of the FEW bright spots of this season is that Time Warner finally got their act together for the Fayetteville, NC area, and dedicated both a standard and HD channel to Charlotte Bobcats game broadcasts.
I’m really enjoying the emergence of Mullens as a scoring threat, Augustin & Hendo are both becoming more aggressive on the offensive end, Biyombo continues to show flashes of the defensive beast I hoped he’d be, and I’m crossing my fingers that White will replace Diaw in the starting lineup any day now.
As Ron Rivera once said, “nothing but optimism…” GO CATS!

Same here.
I’ve watched every minute so far and there’s always something to cheer for. Mullens dunks, Biyombo blocks, Diop flagrants, Diaw shrugs, Kemba breaking ankles.
We’re 1-0 for the games I’ve seen live. Maybe I should go to more. GO CATS!
I'm going out on a limb and saying you went to the Milwaukee game?

If only "Shrugs" were an official NBA stat...
we could at least count on Diaw giving us double digits on a regular basis in some capacity.

Yes, let's look at Ron Rivera, Mr. .375.

Really not a whole lot of difference between the two teams
Two TEs and a QB you hate so much are the only difference on offense, and the defense was decimated by injuries. Rivera didn’t have much more to work with than Fox did.
And a healthy Steve Smith, and a healthy DeAngelo Williams, and a healthy Travelle Wharton...
Yeah, no difference at all.
Personal attacks are the weapon of the ignorant.

Fox also had
A healthy Beason, a healthy Charles Johnson, a healthy David Gettis, better DTs than McClain and Fua, and Fox put All-Pro worthy Chris Gamble in the doghouse.
The Panthers put 18 players on IR this year, most in team history, and still tripled their win total.
Word
More difficult schedule than the year before as well. They also had late leads in several of their losses (as opposed to losing by 30 points every week) before their immaturity and banged-up defense cost them right at the end. No way the Panthers are sub-.500 next year
Charlotte: Where rebuilding happens
Losing by one point is the same as losing by 100.
I haven’t seen a column in the standings for “barely lost” or “almost won” lately.

Its not the same when your talking respect
Teams and fans have more respect for teams that always come close then always are blown out.
And Super Bowls aren't given out on respect.
Personal attacks are the weapon of the ignorant.

Also not the same when you're using it as a measuring stick
If Team A loses to Team C by 50 and Team B loses to Team C by 1, Team B is the more competitive, and likely better, team. Them both losing does not automatically make them equal.
Absolutely wrong
The 2010 panthers were not competitive in almost every game they played. The 2011 team won more games and the losses were closer, which shows that they’re actually not far off from being a playoff team, as opposed to being the worst team in the league the year before.
Very recently you cited the Bobcats’ terrible point differential as a counter to someone saying they’ve been competitive. So which is it? Does it matter how much you lose by or doesn’t it? Huh? Huh?

It certainly matters.
However, the Panthers’ point differential was deceptive because of garbage time scores in games that weren’t that close and poor performance down the stretch of games that were close. The Bobcats, though, have rarely been competitive, regardless of the margins.

You're right
Like:
Jon Beason
Thomas Davis
Geoff Schwartz
Ron Edwards
David Gettis
Jeff Otah
Sione Fua
Terrell McClain
And then later on:
Legedu Naanee
Captain Munnerlyn
Jason Phillips
They were all starters at some point in the season, also known as “Practice Squad Material” apparently.
It's not hard to be a starter on a bad team like the '011 Panthers.
Beason was absolutely missed, and would have been the Pro Bowler he always was. Other than that, though…
Fua and McClain missed less than a month, and were rated as two of the worst DTs in the league.
Otah and Davis were known injury risks. Counting on them was a mistake.
Gettis has one season of starting for an awful offense and all of 500 yards to his name.
Edwards would have made an impact, but he’s a league-average starter.
Schwartz is a seventh-rounder who’s not even league-average.
Naanee and Munnerlyn were rated as two of the worst in the league at their positions, and were at least a full spot higher on the depth chart than they would be on an even decent team.
We picked up Phillips from Baltimore because he couldn’t get on the field for them even in special teams units. The fact that he was starting (like Munnerlyn, Naanee, McClain, Fua, and Schwartz during their tenures) says far more about the Panthers and their eight-wins-in-two-years caliber than their ability.
Personal attacks are the weapon of the ignorant.

Ugh...I forgot; you're not too high on the Panthers' recent season.
I, too, am very disappointed that we didn’t go undefeated and win the Super Bowl. There’s always next year, right?

Soon as I seen RZA....
I knew it was gonna be a good day!
I’m hoping we don’t find a way to make Klay Thompson look like an actually NBA player tonight…..just so we don’t have to hear from focus on why we needed him to lead us. hahahaha
At least I have something to cover my eyes with!

The PAIN of waiting for that #1 Pick LOL
by chris in union county on Jan 14, 2012 2:11 PM EST reply actions
LOL indeed
Maybe I’m reading too much into your infamous one liners, but you sound as if our names are already written on the #1 pick. You do realize that even if we end up with the worst record in the regular season, we only have a 25% chance to win the lottery? Dead last in the regular season only guarantees no lower than the 4th overall pick.
Fun fact: since 1990, only TWO teams with the absolute worst record actually won the lottery (the Cavs were tied for worst in ’03 when they rented drafted LBJ).

still 5/6 of the season for us to overtake them
Boone Logan is a good boy. So is David Robertson. Team A.J.
Mully knows what he needs to do....i think supporting him will only increase his confidence and effort
@byron22james What’s good man…looking good out there with the dunks. Continue work on that defense and getting boards and sky is the limit

Starting lineup changes
Rick Bonnell reporting Boris is out of the starting lineup.
Starters are Mullens, Thomas, Henderson, Kemba, Augustin
was hoping for white at PF
Hopefully he gets put in early on
YeAY!!!
I like it simply for being able to try something different. With Mully, TT, and Hendo as the “bigs” rebounding and post D are the obvious weak spots. Gonna take phenomenal effort from those three to compete on the boards. Would like to see Biz in Tyrus’ spot in this lineup (for the blatant balance of Post D and rebounding alongside Mully) but that will come in time (maybe 2 minutes into this game if they are pounding us at the rim).
I wanted White to replace Diaw...
But the most important piece is in place: Diaw is OUT. It’s about frost brewed time! (just saw that tiny Ditka beer commercial; can’t get that line out of my head)

Interesting...
I hope he and/or his family is OK, but I wonder if the plan was for him to start in Diaw’s place. I love the message that Silas is sending, though: no matter what, Diaw has LOST his privilege to start on this team. Great stuff.

I'm hoping to see more zone D from us.
It’s shaky because we haven’t worked out all the kinks, but it helps hide Augustin’s defensive shortcomings out there.

I also like how you hate the guy so much you wanna make sure nobody forgets that
Good job being a fan, (highfive)
Let me use statistics
Kemba was covering Ellis all game, Ellis had 18 points BUT for a player who is a scoring machine that is holding him down pretty well. He also caused Ellis to shoot 8-26 and forced him to have 2 TO’s. Kemba also had 2 steals and 1 block to go to his defensive performance. So im sure your opinion Kemba is still terrible on D but tonight you cannot say that. And yes Kemba playing SG it will not be this easy seeing as how Ellis is short for a SG 6’3 to be exact but that is irrelevant when you consider the fact Kemba will move to PG eventually whether its this year or not.
Good statistics...let's try a bigger sample size.
When Augustin is on the court, the team’s defensive efficiency rating is 109.6. When he’s off it (which almost always means Walker is, it’s 115.4. When Walker is on the court, it’s 111.1. When he’s off the court, it’s 111.7. Augustin has also outperformed his opposing PG by 3.6 in PER, whereas Walker has been outperformed by -0.8. Feel free to look for yourself.

It is barely a difference
And Kemba had 23 points and 5 assists Ellis only had 18 points im not sure how many assists bu I doubt its a lot. Kemba had a good night against the Warriors im sorry if your to much of a jerk to admit it. Also why are you comparing him to DJ? Thats just random I never said anything about DJ. I just think its funny you hate Walker so bad you had to make sure on one forgot he struggles on defense.
88 points with time remaining in the 3rd quarter. This is amazing.
