Draft Thoughts

First off I love the trade to get us the 7th and 9th pick. We get rid of stephen jackson who is way past his prime. But dont really agree with what we did with those picks. We draft a defensive minded power forward when there was plenty ot offensive talented power forwards still on the board, that is not what we need when were struggling on the offensive end. And then our second pick we pick up kemba walker, a lottery pick again, who is just going to be a backup behind dj and gerald.Even though he can score, where will he fit in the lineup? our backcourt will be 6', 6'1'', and 6'5''. A little short for an NBA lineup. Don't totally agree with these picks. Hopefully we will make a splash with our second round pick. Thoughts, questions, and comments.

about drafting kemba ang bismack

we were lucky that kemba was still on board…bismack biyombo could be another big to clog the paint..diop and kwame just isn’t enough big bodies to cover the middle..

love the trade and picks

I liked Jax but he had to go, a few things were not going to miss, all the tech’s and complaining, being a black hole when he gets the ball. Few things gained better ball movement, our PG’s regain responsibility to distribute and create, more hustle plays and less disruptions. Were not going to trade DJ yet or not for a while Him and Kemba will handle PG duties. They are both affordable for years to come and if Kemba over takes DJ he can be shipped out for a young vet at another position or a draft pick. Bismack will do things on defense that Kwame and Diop can’t do, defend the paint with energy and athleticism. We were last in block shots last season, that will change for sure and he can finish high above the rim for lots of highlights on espn, that will help us with exposure. Magette is a spot up shooter and rebounder he also gets to the line often. He’s been injured the last couple of years and has 2 years left on his contract which is the same amount as Jax. I’m hoping he can contribute with long range shooting and mentoring our young guys, he’s also younger than jax. If we can get 14 pts, 5 reb’s, from him until he’s gone it would be great. Were not looking to be too great for 2011-2012 season so we can get more great young picks in next summers draft which will be dynamite with talent and the FA market will be off the charts for us to spend cap money.

Depends on how you look at it

Here’s the way I see tonight’s draft. We picked up two winners that have great upsides and that are the students of the game. It doesn’t matter to me whether we picked up an " offensive" player over a defensive one. I am a believer in that the college game doesn’t necessarily translate into NBA, and they have a lot of time to polish their game. Kemba isn’t the purest of the shooters but can get to the basket at will.. probably a better rebounder and much better defender than dj IMO.

Kemba to me is like Newton to the panthers. He’s got the chance to be the face of the franchise with his leadership and killer instinct. And you know if a guy can record a triple double with points, rebounds and blocks (biyombo) he’s not bad either. I think we nailed it this year. I’d give it an A+ if I could. This year really opens up for the years to come with smart trades and smart draft picks
