Bismack Biyombo drafted by Bobcats with No. 7 Pick
This pick indicates that the trade between the Bobcats, Kings, and Bucks reported earlier today is official. The Bobcats received the 7th pick and Corey Maggette in the trade with the Bucks and Kings, while the Bucks received Beno Udrih, Stephen Jackson, Shaun Livingston, and the 19th pick, and the Kings received the 10th pick and John Salmons.

Love this guy.
Hard worker, and looks like the next Ben Wallace. His interviews are very interesting as well.
Crash. Coming soon to an arena near you.
Instant Fan Favorite!
Will be interesting to watch him this season.
Is Mufasa and Maggette better than Jackson and Livingston?
No. If that was the goal then it’s a failure. This was a salary dump to prepare for the future. Maggette has one year here for no other reason but to make the plan work.
STEVE SMITH!
This wasn't a salary dump
Jax & Magettee have similar contracts for the same length and Livingston wasn’t due to be paid much money.

that Maggette’s nickname is Bad Porn. He does the things you want to see him do, but its not always pretty lol.

Yes it is because trading Jax helped get the extra pick that puts a cheap, young player on the floor
This puts the young pieces in place, so that we can unload a guy like Maggette, and just focus on the FA signing we really need.

Livingston is due 3.5 mil this year
Bismack is going to make 2.4. The difference is negligible in the grand scheme of things.

You're right Jordan is a moron
Maggette is his answer, to take us to the next level.
No. There is a plan here, bigger than friggin Maggette. But you have to give a little… The trade partner has a plan too.

I joined the Biyombo bandwagon this morning
And I’m glad we drafted him. At the end of the day, center was our weakest position, and we may have solved that problem for 8-10 years. Although the offense was a major problem of ours last year, our defense and rebounding really wasn’t all that hot after trading Crash either. One thing I like about Biyombo is that he is a true athlete. I go to UNC so I understand and appreciate the value of big men that run the floor especially considering the fact that Silas plans on upping the tempo. Very happy with the trades and the drafting of Biyombo.

He said he will play next season
I think the NBA caps how much an NBA team can pay an international team in a buyout.

The team can only pay $500,000
The player has to pick up the rest.

Be honest with the poor guy. No sense in giving him hope.
“might be rough.” haha. No, no, we’re screwed for at least a year. But you’ve got to slice some wrists to really make a delicious cupcake.

I have no problem with that. Bobcats were going the same route the Panthers were in. Middle of the pack. Year in Year out. You can’t improve if your picking middle of the draft every year. FA’s aren’t lining up to play in Charlotte.

The Panthers haven't been middle of the pack
They’ve been bouncing back and forth between being mediocre or a 11-12 win contender for like 10 years now. NFL teams are easier to revamp. NBA the only consistent route to success is to tank and draft a future star.
STEVE SMITH!
A high lottery pick next year would be better than another .500 season
We have to get out of this slump of mediocrity. A year experienced Kemba Walker + a top 5 SG or Forward in next year’s draft… Could set us up nicely for the future.
STEVE SMITH!
Look at John Fox regime. we were 7-9 or 8-8 more often then not. Thats Middle of the pack. There was the occasional 12-4 season and 2-14 but most of the time we were right in the middle

5 out of the 9 years Fox was our coach we were 7-9 or 8-8 That is Middle of the pack

Yeah if you leave out 2003, 2005, 2008, SuperBowl and 2 NFC Championship appearances
You can’t compare the Panthers and the Bobcats over the past 8 years

by southtunnel on Jun 24, 2011 12:26 PM EDT up reply actions
3 out of 9 years we competed. Panthers had much more success i never said they didn’t but 2/3 the time they were .500 at best. The team spoke on wanting to change that and compete year after year. We never put it together back to back. When your bad years you finish .500 you get .500 talent. Not top 10 or top 5 elite players. In a small market like Charlotte high draft picks are a must to compete.

Apples and Oranges
The Bobcats have never been a feared playoff team… Never once. No comparison.
Plus you can revamp an NFL team without a top draft pick. And you can do it in only a year or two. An 8-8 team getting 11 wins the next season happens every year. But that’s extremely hard to do in the NBA.
STEVE SMITH!
The only thing I'll put forth is
that the Panthers have played in a Superbowl while the Bobcats haven’t even won a playoff game, let alone play in the Finals.

One of the most exciting things to me about drafting Biyombo is his age.
He is only EIGHTEEN years old (he turns 19 in August), and is already widely regarded as an absolute beast on the defensive end. I don’t think even he has any idea of what his ceiling truly is. I can’t wait.

most laugh about his age being “18” many believe he could be as old as 24

I didn't know there was conspiracy theory out about him.
I started doing some research, and came across a really interesting interview where he is asked point blank about the age rumors.
Cam Newton for '11 ROY!
This is a question I have faced from when I first came to Spain. Nobody knows about me, so people are quickly like, “Who is Bismack? Who is this guy? Where did he come from?” Now, some people ask me if I can look them in the eye and say I’m really 18. I can look anyone in the eye and tell them that. If they want to believe me, they can believe me, and if they don’t want to believe me, they don’t have to. I’m not President Obama, I’m not gonna hold up my birth certificate in public to show to the world. But we show it to the teams who are looking at me, and we show them X-rays and passports and other documents that prove to them my age.

I read that one, too.
I have no reason to believe he isn’t as old as he says he is. It just goes to show how talented he is; he’s so good that he must be some kind of ringer, right?
He’ll be 19 in August.

He’s not so willing to accept it. I give Bismack the benefit of the doubt because at the end of the day no matter if he’s 18 or 22, he hasn’t been playing basketball for long at all. It’s not like if he really is 22 he’s spent time developing for an additional 4 years when he wasn’t even playing.

exactly
if he was 18 and has been playing basketball since birth, then thats the same as a 22 year old playing basketball since 15.
if he’s 22 and has only been playing basketball for 1 year, then he has a longer life expectancy in the NBA on young legs.
its all the same really

update
he said he started playing 5 years ago
so if he’s 18, then he started at 13.
if he’s 22, then he started at 17.
both are pretty impressive considering how much his defensive game has improved in that amount of time. i know tall guys that have been playing for their whole lives who cant defend like he does.

Let's put it this way
I’m 19 and I started playing basketball when I was 13, and I’m decidedly not Bismack Biyombo.
