Evaluating and Rosterbating
First of all Bobcat fans, let me apologize before I even get started. This isn't going to be the usual "best case scenario" post that I put up about our team. Nor will it even call for some of the blind optimism that we choose to live by. No, this one will focus on reality and what we can do to turn our dreams into reality. Our latest loss, a 99-89 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers, have all but ended our hopes for a playoff berth and now we can all look forward to the end of the season, the NBA Finals and the upcoming draft. In this thread, I must warn you, there will be nothing but pure pessimism and doubt. I know some of you don't want to hear it, and that's fine, I don't want to say it. But the truth is the truth, and it needs to be heard.
PLAYER EVALUATIONS
D.J. Augustin - D.J. caught fire for the first couple of weeks after Larry Brown was canned, but hasn't been as spectacular or consistent since. He's dealt with a few injuries over the past months that have undoubtedly inhibited his progress, but at this point, I'm just not sure how much a healthy Augustin would have made a difference. D.J. is doing an excellent job at converging from a shoot first PG to a true point with some of the best assist/turnover numbers in the league. However, one thing that hasn't improved is his defense. And for a team in the position that we're in, we just can't afford to have a player on the floor that needs help so much on defense. This would be a different story if he could produce points/efficient shooting more consistently, but at this point, it just hasn't happened and probably never will. D.J. is probably our most trade-able asset, and it may be in the best interest of the team to part ways through a trade and look for the best replacement point guard in what is quickly becoming a PG dominated league. Derrick Rose, Rajon Rondo, Russell Westbrook, Deron Williams, Chris Paul, John Wall, Brandon Jennings, I mean, the list just goes on and on. I know it's unfair to ask D.J. to produce like those guys, but is it unfair to ask him to work on his defense to be able to stop them from penetrating the lane and causing the whole defense to break down? I don't think so. I also don't think he'll ever be able to do so.
Gerald Henderson - Before Gerald Wallace was traded, Henderson was in a decent position allowing him to grow as a super sixth man into a potential starter and a possible future star. This is the role that I felt was perfect for him. Once Crash was dealt, Hendo was forced into an unfamiliar position and was annointed our SG of the future. Though I still believe that he has that potential, I also will need to see more scoring from him before I am able to say he is that great. With all of the injuries on our team, at this point, Henderson should be putting up consistent 20+ point games and establishing himself as the leader of the team. Instead, his averages have remained consistent with what he was putting up with a healthy squad, and that's somewhat troubling. It's doubtful we can find an affordable SG in free agency or in he draft that is an upgrade, so our best bet at this point would probably be to keep him as the starting SG for next year as well. However, being a full time starting SG in the NBA averaging 15 points on a team as offensively inept as ours won't cut it, despite how elite his defense already is.
Stephen Jackson - Captain Jack is still by far the best player that we have on the team and his hamstring is probably the biggest reason that we have faded down the stretch. Considering he is a year older and wasn't able to finish out the season strong, his trade value appears to be at an all time low. I'm pretty sure he'll return next year at least as long as he doesn't snap. Remember, right now, we are going through the same thing Golden State went through that caused him to demand a trade. I really think M.J. is the only reason Jax didn't flip ou this year.
Boris Diaw - Boris is truly an enigma. We've all seen his ability to dominate when he wants to and we've all seen his ability to disappear. Frankly, I'm tired of the disappearing act and I think management is too. Being that Boris will be in the last year of his deal on a pretty high salary, I'm pretty sure he'll end up traded away for other "assets" as Tyson Chandler and Nazr Mohammed have been over the past year.
Kwame Brown - It's just amazing that a man so big can have hands so small made of stone. Although Kwame has shown flashes of excellence and the skill necessary to be a starting center in the NBA, too many times has he let us down with his turnovers from not being able to just catch the ball. Kwame Brown should be a role player (occasional starter) at best and I'll be very happy to see him return for the right price. Charles Oakley has assisted in making Kwame a much better big man, and I think it's essential for him to stay in Charlotte to continue his development.
Tyrus Thomas - What a difference a few months, injuries, and temper tantrums can make. In the eyes of many Bobcat fans, Tyrus has gone from a potential franchise building block to an overpaid and immature role player. The thing is, he is still very young and very gifted. However, he's been in the league for years now and still is viewed by most as a project. Those types of players almost never get it right. Michael Jordan and Rod Higgins signed Tyrus to a big extension hoping that he would continue the growth he began last year under Larry Brown. Well, now that Larry is no longer here, that progress has been temporarily derailed and I'm not sure if Silas has the same patience for him. It's hard to tell with all of the injuries he's had since Silas took over, but I'm guessing that he can be had for the right price.
Shaun Livingston - Livingston has starting PG skill and is on a good deal so I think he'll more than likely be back. There have been several times his year where he has been our most efficient player and his defense has saved us at times where D.J. was getting destroyed. The only things that worry me about Livingston is his horrendous outside shooting (which he knows not to take) and his reconstructed knee. As far as backup PG's in the NBA go, Livingston is one of the best out there (outside of the Aaron Brooks and Raymond Felton's of he world). I think he should and will be a Bobcat next year as he will sill be under contract and more than likely won't be dangled in trades.
Dante Cunningham - We're in a bit of a pickel here with "Inferno" as Blazer fans like to call him. He'll be a restricted free agent at the end of the year and has shown more than enough to warrant being signed to an extension. However, you don't want to overpay for a player of his caliber seeing as though he doesn't have the credentials to warrant a big money deal. It all depends on how much money another team is willing to offer if he is brought back or not. My bet right now is he stays, but we'll see how it turns out.
D.J. White - White has shown to be the most consistent at playing like a true PF on our team and is locked in to a multi year deal on a cheap contract. You can pretty much bet that he'll be a Bobcat next year. Hopefully he continues to progress with more consistent playing time, but I don't think he should be viewed as anything more than a role player at this point in his career.
Joel Przybilla - Pryzbilla will not be a Bobcat next year, I fully guarantee it. With his knee being such a redundant problem and him having a not so secret desire to return to Portland, it's a foregone conclusion that he's played his last game as a Bobcat. His worth was always his expiring $7.4 mil contract, so his loss isn't a big factor. Combine that with the fact that he was extremely mediocre while here, and I'm not sure if we, the fans, want him back anyway.
DeSagana Diop - Sagana was starting to come on "strong" once Silas took over, but immediately went down with a season ending injury which turned out to be a lot costlier than we could all imagine. Being that he has two years left on his deal after this one and is coming off a severe injury that will more than likely take part of next season (if there is one) to heal, it's pretty safe to say that he will be a Bobcat for the foreseeable future. I'm confident Silas can find a way to make great use of him one day, but until then, he'll remain one of the NBA's most notorious cases of "dead money".
Matt Carroll - The pain of the last few losses we have suffered has been somewhat offset by the......uh...re-emergence..... of Carroll. Over the past few games, he's reminded us why the Bobcats took a chance on him in the first place and that he can be an effective player when called upon. Though he should never be starting, he has been able to live up to his $4.3 mil salary which gradually decreases over the last two years of his deal. Although he has played so well the past few games and teams may be more willing to take on his pay, I still just don't see anyone dealing for him. I'm pretty sure he'll be a Bobcat next year, and may be one of the most effective role players we have.
Eduardo Najera - Najera will be entering the final year of his deal and more than likely will be included in a trade somewhere along the way as a throw in to match salaries. He's had a pretty uneventful year this season other than a huge 3 point shot that helped us beat the Celtics, so we're not losing much if he is traded.
Dominic McGuire - McGuire should be a benchwarmer in the league, point blank period. I know that there have been times this year where he has looked very impressive, but at the same time, this is the NBA. A lot of players can look impressive when given extended playing time, no matter how bad they are. I'm all for bringing him back at the minimum on a one year deal, but anyhing else is too much for a player of his caliber. My guess is that as long as no other team comes calling for his services at a higher rate, (contract expires at the end of he year) he'll be back. But to be honest, I couldn't care less. Larry Brown has put a permanent sour taste in my mouth everytime I say his name, so that may add to my lack of empathy for him, but players like him are 12th men on contending teams.
Garrett Temple - Though not overly impressive on offense or defense, I think Temple will stick around as the emergency PG. Either him or we bring Sherron Collins back. It's your choice.
Rosterbation
So, taking into account MY player evaluations, I really feel as though we will start the regular season with a team of leftovers consisting of:
Shaun Livingston, Gerald Henderson, Stephen Jackson, Kwame Brown, Matt Carroll, Dominic McGuire, Dante Cunningham, D.J. White, and DeSagana Diop
That leaves D.J. Augustin, Boris Diaw, Tyrus Thomas, and Eduardo Najera as our best trade assets next year.
At this point, our weaknesses would range in this order: Starting C, Starting PG, Backup SF, Starting/Backup PF, Backup SG. Here are some REALISTIC ways I think we could address those....
Trades: Using Diaw, Thomas, Augustin and Najera, what kind of trade packages can you come up with to benefit the team? I'll add mine later. The final roster listed at the bottom presumes Tyrus and Diaw were traded for Jamison and a draft pick, Najera was released, and Augustin was dealt for a first round pick.
Free Agents: Nenad Krstic, Von Wafer, Sasha Pavlovic, Rasual Butler, Anthony Parker, Tyson Chandler, DeShawn Stevenson, Kenyon Martin, Chuck Hayes, Mike Dunleavy, T.J. Ford, Jeff Foster, Jamario Moon, Shane Battier, Michael Redd, Sasha Vujacic, Jason Richardson, Jason Kapono, Samuel Dalembert, Josh Howard
Maalik Wayns
Final Thoughts
I actually still believe that D.J. Augustin is a keeper, but I understand how his liabilities on defense may cause others to feel like he isn't a long term solution and this is a pessimism thread so for the sake of this writing, he has to be turned into something worth holding on to. Although there is no way to predict how our team will look next year or who will stay or who will go, I see our depth chart working out like this...........
PG Maalik Wayns, Shaun Livingston, Garrett Temple
SG Gerald Henderson, Sasha Vujacic, Matt Carroll
SF Stephen Jackson, John Henson, Jamario Moon
PF Antawn Jamison, Dante Cunningham, D.J. White
C Samuel Dalembert, Kwame Brown, DeSagana Diop
Although a few things have been left out, such as our hypothetical compensation for D.J., I think this is pretty much how the team will look next year. We won't be great or much improved, but I think we'll be a threat again to make the playoffs with our added depth and will have room for bigger and better things the year after.

As a Tar Heel fan, that makes me happy.
Marvin Williams, Brandan Wright, Ed Davis (maybe) and Joseph Forte all left early and have terribly disappointed me.

I hope Barnes also returns...
Talk about a nasty team…Good news!!!
Hell yeah.
The freshmen we got coming in are souped up too. We will have the talent to go undefeated next year. Don’t think it will happen, but the talent will definitely be there.

Yeah, he's been fairly impressive over the second half.
That’s why I said (maybe). As a Tar Heel fan, I always love to see our players do good, though I don’t particularly care for Vince Carter anymore for some reason. I did get a thrill out of teasing my Duke friends saying Hansborough was already better than Boozer though. Lol.

I agree..
None of those guys had any business going pro, they all have been borderline busts, except the jury is still out on Ed Davis though.
I think he'll turn out pretty good,
I’m just always wary of players that leave UNC early though. I don’t think I’ll ever get over how terrible Forte was. One of the smoothest college players I’ve ever seen.

I don't get that either
I think Livingston could start for an NBA team anyway. But it’s a moot point as Wayns apparently said last week he’s not entering the draft anyway. (http://www.phillyburbs.com/sports/villanova-s-wayns-to-return-next-year/article_001a3fec-5aeb-11e0-bae1-0017a4a78c22.html)

Most of these names were pulled
From NBA.coms latest mock draft. I haven’t bothered researching each players intentions when it comes to declaring. I think a lot of these kids are staying in school primarily due to the uncertainty of the next CBA. The inclusion of these guys is simply to say that there should be quality talent available when we make our selection. For most fans, recognizable names equal quality players.

I love me some Liv
Who would have thought we would get 70+ games out of this guy at the beginning of the season? I hope he comes back and can do it again next year. Sorry, just not a fan of Augustin. I hate his defense and lack of leadership…I would start Liv in a heartbeat. I think DJ has started because of our offensive ineptitude. I think on a squad with some better scorers Liv would get the nod over DJ…Just my opinion.
He has Improved in the assists department the last few months.
I think once Silas lights a fire under him, he’ll be more vocal
I agree.
Not calling DJ a scrub or a bad player, but there have been plenty times this year where Livingston has clearly outperformed DJ, but there has never been a PG controversy.

I appreciate Liv for what he has produced, but asking too much of him is a bad idea.
That's very true.
That’s why I was saying Wayns would probably start over Livingston. I didn’t elaborate, just said that it would probably be the same reason D.J. starts over him.

I would just trade everyone in the starting lineup
For Chris Paul and the hornets 2nd round pick and build the team through free agency
Just kidding!
But, I would like Chris Paul
I really dont think Paul is out of the question.
Jordan isn’t giving up on getting a superstar.

Neither are the other 29 owners
But is there a superstar that wants to play for Jordan in Charlotte? That’s looking very questionable right now.
I don't think so.
But if it’s anybody out there at this point who would probably want to, CP3 would be that guy. I think of all of the non contenders interested in acquiring Paul, we would be one of his preferred choices simply because of his relationship with MJ and all of his Carolina ties.

I like that squad!!
Jajaun Johnson and a healthy Tyrus Thomas, oh boy!!!We’d kill teams in the paint!!!
I am sorry, but Bobcats fans are so fickle....
Three months ago, we were salivating at the prospects of Tyrus starting when Boris leaves. Now you want Tyrus gone, Henderson is the next Kobe Bryant, and Augustin should be on the first flight out of here. First of all, Tyrus came back a little sooner than he should have from being hurt. He tore his meniscus, which I have done, and trust me, it is not easy to come back from, especially in the NBA. His jumper is a little inconsistent since his injury, which SHOULD be expected. His lift will be a little off, as your meniscus actually takes about a year to get back to normal after being torn.
Augustin is trying to transition into a starting point guard, and if you think about it, this is kind of like his rookie season. Last year he was shelved on the bench, with inconsistent playing time, and had an abdominal injury. His rookie season he sprained his ankle a couple of times, and was the sixth man. He showed signs of stardom his rookie year, much like he has this year. His problem is that he does not take shots when he is open a lot of times. He is trying to hard to be a passer, and often overlooks his own shots. This is something that can be fixed, and fixed fairly easily. Why would you take a chance on a point guard in the draft, a draft with a lack of good pg’s, when you pretty much know what you will get out of Augustin.
Henderson is less developed than both Tyrus, and D.J, which leaves me puzzled as to why people like him sooo much. I will admit that he has improved. I would be lying if I said I didn’t see an improvement. But most of his game is based off of athleticism alone. I understand that Tyrus is almost the same way, but Tyrus is at a position where supreme athleticism is hard to find. Henderson position is nothing but athleticism, which doesnt bode well for Hendo.
The positions I would target the most in the draft are SG, C, and SF.
With our three picks, I would draft
Alec Burks, Kawhi Leonard and Lucas Nogueria

I disagree with your opinion on Gerald
Your defending DJ by saying it is technically his rookie season which if your gona use that logic it is Geralds too he never played last year. People can see the talent that man has he just has a lot of work to do. And my mother also had the same injury and that was last year when we were in the playoffs and she still limps. So I am not giving up on Thomas yet but I have took notice of that he is not big enough to be a prototypical PF. But I really like him as a 6th man.
+1
White is the closest thing we have to a true PF. Tyrus can be that, but he would rather be Dirk. He needs to develop his skills around the basket and become a banger on the inside if he is going to be our starting PF going forward. Until then, I think he is better suited as a 6th man.

Tyrus has a lot of potential. Hendo really progressed this year. If Tyrus can stay healthy, he will likely have an opportunity next year.

My gut feeling
Is that we trade diaw in the offseason, move tyrus into the starting lineup and let white assume the backup forward role.

I only think we will trade Diaw if we get equal value in return.
Diaw is inconsistent, but there was a reason he started every game. I don’t see him as part of our rebuilding, but we aren’t going to dump him.

We would have to get a fair return. Otherwise, we would just release him which would be dumb.
Q. What Do You Tell A Girl With Two Black Eyes?

by Charlotte Bobcat on Apr 6, 2011 10:43 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions
But what is equal value for Diaw?
If he was a football player, he’d be cut in the offseason. As a basketball player with guaranteed contract, his trade value is negative. Right now, he only gets traded for a longer contract, and the Bobcats have already wrecked their future with those kind of deals. Maybe the Bobcats will find a taker next season, but I’m thinking of a deal along the lines of what they got for Nazr would be selling high.
I was going through the rosters and salaries yesterday, and will post some of my trade ideas later,
but one of them that I thought was a realistic possibility was a deal something like Beno Udrih and Hassan Whiteside for Diaw. Though we wouldn’t need Udrih, I think Diaw would fit in well with helping faciliate the Kings offense with all of those young stars around him ready to take the pressure.
Q. What Do You Tell A Girl With Two Black Eyes?
A. Nothing, You've Already Told Her Twice.
by Charlotte Bobcat on Apr 7, 2011 7:56 AM EDT up reply actions
If Sacramento can draft or sign a replacement for Udrih, I think they’d be happy to accept that deal. But then the Bobcats have Udrih, a mediocre backup PG, taking up cap space for two years. And if Whiteside can’t get on the court in Sacramento, I’m not sure he’s got an NBA career ahead. Realistic deal, but I’m not sure how it helps the Bobcats.
Yeah, good point.
I had to go back and check again and realized the Udrih has a player option. For some reason, I originally thought it was a team option, but the facts you presented completely cancel out such a scenario. Hassan would be able to come in and play center, plus he’s from my hometown, Gastonia. But yeah, it wouldn’t be a great deal for us. I can just see something like that getting thrown together though. Diaw for a mediocre player on an expiring deal and a young prospect not getting playing time on his current team that has some upside. That’s the best I think we can get for him at this stage.

That was actually one of the trades that I had envisioned yesterday looking at the rosters.
It’d be a good trade for both teams. Barbosa can come in and put up big points for us off the bench and Toronto is one of the few teams in the league I think actually “desires” Diaw. The only thing that would really be in the way is Toronto’s love for Barbosa. I think they want to keep him.

Probably.
I think they are more eager on moving Bargnani first. But I doubt Jordan would take his contract. Barbosa would be a great addition, or any seasoned veteran who can play the 6th man role. It’d be great for Henderson to be able get some guidance from a veteran as he continue to grow as a star player.

Absolutely, on all points.
I think Bargnani is totally out of the question for M.J. He’s proven he’s not going to deal with the mediocrity, and Barbosa would be a perfect fit here. We could just let him run wild on the 2nd team.

Well, like I said in the first sentence,
This is my pessimism thread. I don’t dislike tyrus. I don’t even want to trade him. However, the concerns still exist that existed when we traded for him and signed him to that extension. He still is immature and out of position A LOT. His injury has nothing to do with returning early. It has to do with him going out of his way to try to make an unnecessary play on defense because he was upset about the previous 4 possessions before he was hurt. I agree on Augustin, and like I clearly said, don’t want to trade him. However, that doesn’t take away from the fact that other point guards eat his lunch consistently. He has got to get better on defense. No question about it.

I am still excited about Tyrus, he was injured this year and I expect to see more of his potential come out next season. Hendo is developing nicely and will be a very good player in this league and possibly a star with improved range. DJ kills us on the Defensive end, he is the main reason our defense dropped off from the league best D we had last year. I would like to see DJ packaged with Boris to bring back some value.
Any suggestions on what a package of Diaw and D.J. would net us?
I think we could get a pretty good piece for that kind of package.

Monta Ellis??
I kid I kid. but it would be nice.

it would be good
But I think chances are Curry will be the one on a new team.
I was just wondering,
but has Lucas Nogueria declared for the draft? I hope he has but I can’t find any info. I think he could be a great addition. I think Alec Burks will be gone before our pick comes up…but wouldn’t mind him either.

I think Nogueria is 17
Even if we draft him, we won’t see him in a Cat’s uniform for a few years. I love what I have seen from him on YouTube…
Im not sure homey.
I just took the names from a mock draft. I don’t think they bothered researching each players intentions because as Ben has pointed out, a lot of these guys are deciding to stay in school. Ill let u know as soon as I find out.

I appreciate it! From what I’ve read and seen from youtube, he’ll be a good pro if he keeps his head on straight.

No doubt.
That’s really all I’ve had to go by him as well. Scouting reports and YouTube videos. He looks like a beast in the making.

If we retain TT and White, where does Faried play?
I like his game, but he is too small to play center and he lacks the range and quickness to play small forward. Good player, I just don’t see a place for him on this team.
I like Faried
Having he and TT would be a nice PF combo. I just think that White has assumed that role. If TT or White were dealt, then hell yes, bring him in!
I think it will come down to Cunningham and White with White losing the battle

He’s pretty good, but I don’t know if he’s one of those “can’t miss” prospects he’s being hyped up to be.

The Thing About Tyrus is this...
His positiopn doesnt neccesarily call for a banger. But he himself is one. Most of his job depends solely only on his athleticism and ability to jump. With the injury keeping him out so long, Im not so sure he can return at allstar form. Its good that he has developed a jumpshot but with his limited skillset, him having a jumpshot doesnt benefit us as much. Remember how McDyess used to be a beast in his first few seasons? Then he hurt his knee. But the difference here is that McDyess can do EVERYTHING else (pass, reb, shoot 18ft out)…unless Tyrus develops at all these skills at a high level, that leg injury may write his ticket…
Exactly.
Tyrus is going to have to work on developing his overall game. I think he can and will continue to get better, but next year, if he is still here, will let us know if the extension was a mistake or not. Still too early to tell, but I’m positive MJ hasn’t been pleased with how his investment has paid off over the 2nd half of the season. I’m also sure he isn’t pleased with Tyrus 3 year old like temper tantrums.

LB kept him in check in a way no other coach in his career has been able to...
If Silas can’t get that same repoire with him, then he may pout his way right out of CHA. I hope he gets his act together…and gets healthy.
Its crazy that
An emotional young guy like Tyrus bought so much into Larry’s system while a calm veteran like crash tuned out to him. I don’t think Larry cared about the pouting, but judging by his facial expressions, Silas can’t stand it.

Did MJ allow LB to absolutely wreck everything?
Not just with TT, but with all of these moves that we made over the past 2 years? Look at what we had at the end of last season to our team now…Oak, GW, and Felton just to name a few…I really think we are at least 2 full seasons from being a true playoff contender, and what scares the hell out of me is we have to do it by the draft…not our owner or our teams strong suit…i’m a realist…gonna be some rough times before it gets better…
Definitely going to be a challenging process.
Next year we will more than likely be a fringe playoff team again. Im with you though, it’ll be at least two before we can establish some consistency. It’s crazy how much the team philosophy has changed since MJ bought the team. It’s almost like he said, “hold on, hold on. We spending my money now. This s*** ain’t working.”

I've been saying that since the Okafor trade
But LB didn’t make the trades himself. He’s partly to blame, but so are the remaining members of Bobcats management starting with the owner. This team is going to get worse before it gets better. My most optimistic answer to the poll is that the Bobcats will rebuild around their 2012 – 2014 draft picks. This year’s picks will likely be role players.
Yeah, that's the way I'm seeing things as well right now.

I dont think our FO is as bad at drafting as everyone thinks they are.
Oak, Felton,DJ, Hendo,Dudley, even D. Brown have all been good picks. Yes there has been bad picks like May and Ajenci(sp?) but i believe that MJ is becoming a much better judge of talent. The biggest problem i see is KEEPING our good picks.
"Facts are stubborn, but statistics are more pliable"-Mark Twain
Lol. How you gonna talk aboutb
Bad picks and not mention Morrison? But yeah, I think MJ now knows what to look for in draft picks seeing how kwame and Adam bombed out. I think he operates better trying to find quality players outside of the top 8 picks. For those, he was just suckered into the hype those guys had around them. Ammo was supposed to be the next Larry Bird. Smh.

CLT - Good Analysis
Remember we have 2 1st round draft picks coming in. This means at least two players won’t be here. I believe Temple is definitely gone. I also think Matt Carroll is as likely to be packaged in a trade as Najera is.
Dominic was minimum contract and about equal to Eddy on the court
I do like Eddy’s personality and the way he soccer dribbles the ball on his way to pre-game warm-ups.

I think this year's draft may be a bit underrated...
I think if our front office does it’s homework, and evaluate the talent wisely, then we could possibly land some good talent that may even start eventually. I look at this draft as called the “chip on his shoulder draft”, most of these guys has alot to prove that they belong in the NBA.
I agree.
Everyone is calling it a weak draft because their isn’t a unanimous number 1 pick like LeBron or Durant entering the draft, but the NCAA tournament gave me a chance to see and realize that there is A LOT of talent coming into the league this year (depending on how many actually declare). I think overall, picks 1-30, it could actually be one of the strongest first rounds we’ve had in years.

God bless this NCAA tournament!
Disregarding that awful championship game, the overall tournament did give us fans a chance to see some great basketball games and some very talented players from smaller schools that can just flat out ball!! So i agree, pics 1-30 could be very strong! our front office has got to do their scouting and bring this talent to the Bobcats!
Yeah, that championship game was terrible.
I couldn’t bare to watch it after looking at it for four minutes and seeing about 18 missed shots. We can come out good as long as MJ and Higgins are on the ball. I can’t wait to see who our selections will be. Hell, we may end up trading the picks entirely. We all know how crazy things can get on draft night.

Gun to my head,
I’d take Markieff over Marcus. Not high on either of them. Did you know that Marcus has a wingspan (6’7") thats shorter than his height (6’9"). That wards me off.

depends on what his role is. what we need him to do
I’ve heard that its a strong chance neither land in the second rd. Its not like they’re Taylor Swif…i mean Griffin
Im' not a fan of either of the Morris boys...
I would much rather see us draft Kenneth Faried with that 2nd pick. Depending on who declares and where our draft position falls, I would love to see the draft shake out like this…Kawai Leonard, Kenneth Faried, and hopefully Keith Benson in the 2nd round. All of these guys are still a little rough around the edges, but if we are gonna go young, allow them to grow together. Leonard plays great defense and rebounds at a nice clip for a SF. Faried could be a Dennis Rodman-type a rebounding machine that scores on offensive put backs and hustle plays. Benson is a superior athlete at 6’11" that needs some work, but with the right coaches and more bulk could turn into a serviceable center. I love Nogiera from Brazil, but I doubt we would take him around pick 20 and hoping he falls to us in the second round is wishful thinking at best…I know alot will change between now and draft day, but I would be ecstatic to end up with a draft day haul like this…
Here are a couple of NOT so big name free-agents and restricted free-agents that I would be looking at over the summer...
RFA:
DeAndre Jordan-C-LAC: This guy reminds me of Tyson Chandler, limited offense but very good on defense with decent rebounding ability. Clip’s will probably resign, but a hefty offer from us could make them shy away.
Luc Richard Mbah a Moute-SG/SF-MIL: I love this guys motor and athletic ability. Not a great shooter, but would be a versatile rotational player or starter if need be.
Arron Afflalo-SG-DEN: With the acquisition of Felton playing heavy minutes along side of Ty Lawson, Afflalo could be stolen from them. Has nice touch from deep and could provide consistent scoring as a starter or as a 6th man.
Greg Oden-C-POR: I know, I know, I know…If we could rebuild him and keep him healthy he could be a steal. Liv could show him how to properly prepare for making a come back from devastating injuries and, as fragile as he, is he is still young enough to take a chance on in my opinion. Get him out of portland…
FA:
Tyson Chandler-C-DAL: We need a center and he has shown the ability to stay healthy this year. Although he would probably want more money than he is worth or than we would be willing to pay for him, it’s just a thought.
Al Thornton-SF-LAC: We need points and Thornton would be a nice option off the bench or maybe as a starter.
Shane Battier-SF-HOU: I think a young team needs leadership and I think he could provide it. Great defender with an occasionally decent 3 point shot.
Sebastian Telfair-PG-MIN: I loved watching film of this kid in high school. Could be an option as a 3rd PG. That’s the only justification I have because he has been an awful pro thus far.
Well there you have it, just a few names to throw around as the off-season can’t come fast enough for this Bobcats fan…Enjoy!
Aaron Afflalo!
It would be nice to have him here. Another Gerald Henderson but with range.

I seriously doubt Afflalo
goes to a team where he will be on the bench. I actually doubt that Den doesnt resign Afflalo. JR Smith is a another. Denver is tryn to resign NENE so chances are they let JR walk over Afflalo (bc of the $$$). Greg Oden is a good choice and I actually think next season will be his year to shine. Miami and Boston will make strong runs at him and Chandler. I like both choices for us but I doubt Dallas just lets him go with ease. I also doubt Chandler will consider coming back to the CATS. He knows he should be on a contender and chances are that is where he will be. Our BEST option is either Dalembert, Blatche or Varajao. I know that Rudy Fernandez will NOT be apart of the Blazers next season. He can however shine with the CATS. Again there will be teams looking to add a piece like Rudy. (NJ, Philly (this will be the last yr for Andre Igoudala)). There is a goldmine in the upcoming FA. But there are also alot of teams that need that ONE INTRIGUAL PIECE to be sucessful. So they will be looking to spend a lil More to get it.
My $0.02
Tyson Chandler: The view is that he will be resigned based on what I read.
Shane Battier: Plays for Memphis and they are looking to resign as they love his leadership with that group.
DeAndre Jordan: As you said LA want to resign him bad.
Greg Oden: Word is that he will receive the qualifying offer at $8,788,681 for next year. If we want him we are going to have to give a long term (3 – 4 years) at around that price to keep Portland from matching. I think this would go counter to what Jordan has been positioning the franchise for.
Luc Richard Mbah: If we don’t keep Dom then he could be alright. Would compete for minutes with Dante if we keep him as well. The Bucks have a payroll problem in the making which means that Luc could be a good candidate to get stolen by another team. Has played well for the Bucks since they drafted him so they may decide to pay him and try and get rid of some of the other contracts on their roster.
Arron Afflalo: Another guy with a qualifying offer which you would think would be extended to him (only $2,906,503). I too think that Denver won’t match a high offer. I’m not sure that I would want the Cats to pay too much for him either. In the end I would probably pass.
Al Thornton: I just don’t think he is the answer. He would fill a need for scoring but I wouldn’t want him long term.
Sebastian Telfair: Another 5’11 PG on the roster who likes to score. I would pass on him as well. I would be looking to a more pass oriented 3rd string PG who could play a little SG as well.
Following these blogs:
http://www.rufusonfire.com, http://tradestreetpost.com, http://www.ridiculousupside.com, http://www.inhistoric.com
Why is everyone bring up AL THORNTON
Marcus Thornton is who I bring up. I dont think Al Thornton could help us either. Again I doubt that we go into next season with Dante. He isnt under contract and will be recieving plenty of calls. Both Youngs, Thaddeus and Nick, will be FA and no one brings them up, And we ALL know they would be that 20plus pt scorer we need.
Dante is a RFA
And unless people are going to pay him entirely to much I dont see why we wouldnt match any offer.
Bc there are better options
and I think we would go after a better option if they are available. Corey Brewer is the guy on my radar. Im a fan of the game. And every nite I go through the statlines of darn near every player that plays. Corey Brewer is balling recently. But last night I actually got to see him play. Next year Dallas will have a healthy Butler, Marion and Peja probably…Brewer will be free to roam (i think). Idk if you guys watched much JAX before GS but he reminds me much of a young healthy JAX. He has good distance on his jumper. He is a hustler. He defends well and can cause problems for most SF/SG bc of his length and he can drive to the basket. He is a a young player and can be that guy we build up behind JAX. This is a guy that wont be too expensive and will be a great investment for us. He may not be a name that cuts on lightbulbs. But our problem is that we are looking for the NAME and not the PLAY. This guy can play.
Your really going off of potential here haha
I like Corey Brewer but I personally have no preference over him or Dante, i just have a feeling we will resign him. Plus we had an opportunity to get Brewer when he was waived, i dont know if are view has changed
Isnt That what we are doing with Hendo/Cunningham?
Y would get him when he was waived if we still had Wallace and a healthy JAX? Brewer has put up bigger stats when he gets 20mins. Dante starts and has only one 20pt game. I think Brewer is easily an all around better player from every aspect except maybe rebounds. He is alot faster. And only a year older. I think if we let Brewer slip by, we make a big mistake. The stats speak for themselves.
I love Corey Brewer just because of his dunk on Derek Fisher last year. Lol
