*GASP* Larry Brown wanted AI in Charlotte, MJ didn't
LB: "Before I got fired I went to the NBA coaches' meeting ... a lot of the NBA people, the executives that were there, talked to me about trying to figure out a way to get Allen to finish out his career in our league. He wanted to come with me [Allen Iverson], but Michael [Jordan] didn't think it the right thing to do because we had young guards and he wanted them to develop. I think for him to end his career in Turkey after what he did for our league is tragic."

“I think for him to end his career in Turkey after what he did for our league is tragic.”
No Larry, what’s tragic is that AI did realize when he was done and turned himself into a punchline. Running an NBA team isn’t offering handouts to old friends under the guise of avoiding ‘tragedy’.

Damnit...I left my tiny violin at home.
Seems like a big fat waste of time if a key talking point at a NBA coaches meeting is trying to figure out which team wants to throw good money on a bad contract just so Iverson can retire on a NBA roster. Who exactly forced Iverson to go play in Turkey anyway?

I'm conflicted about LB
On one hand, he came in and totally wrecked the Bobcats with trades. On the other hand, that got the Bobcats to their only Playoff appearance.
I keep thinking that a pre-Larry Brown Bobcats roster would be a 5th or 6th seed today in the East.
I think you are correct
If Silas would have been hired instead of Brown…
We wouldn’t be in the predicament we are in now…and we most likely would have had some nice looking talent…and be looking at a possible 3rd playoff appearance this season.

we would be a better team
no doubt. richardson and dudley might not be stars, but are very quality players in this league. sure we would have been looking for a PF until thomas arrived, but I say okafor, tyrus, wallace, richardson, felton is a heck of a lineup. you gotta assume that jackson would not even be here, since diaw and bell were part of the richardson trade, along with vlad rad.
the 2010-11 charlotte whatifcats
PG felton/augustine
SG richardson/ carroll
SF wallace/ dudley
PF tyrus/d brown
C oakfor/k brown
"..and we have scott may coming back this season.." bob johnson quote before the start of 07-08 season, when he didnt even know his own players name.

Ugh, glad we never got AI.
It’s his own damn fault for having such an inflated ego. He has to realize you can’t always be the center of attention. Players on the bench are part of the team too, you know? He had a good opportunity to serve as a veteran mentor, but instead he just wanted to continue hogging the spotlight and starting, regardless of what team he was on.
Both the Grizzlies and the Sixers gave him an extra chance, and he blew it both times. I can’t fathom how anyone, including Larry Brown, would even want to approach Iverson after all the recent mess he’s caused. I mean, I know Iverson and Brown have a special relation, but come on.
AI was physically and mentally broken at the end of his career
LB probably would have signed Charles Barkley if he was ready to play again.

WOW !
If we could have added say A.I., Birdman to Jack and Tyrus, we’d have the best tattoos in all sports !
