Jordan HAS to have a plan in mind...

Obviously Jordan wasn't kidding when he said he wanted this team to be more than a 7th or 8th seed team. The departure of Wallace is one of two things: a salary dump only because he is desperate for money, or a salary dump to get us in position to get the wheels moving on a bigger deal. I believe it's the latter. I still think he is going after CP3. People have said this before, but I still think its very possible. With the new CBA, it will limit many teams from getting him.

Nets- No. Deron Williams

Heat- Too much money to the Big 3

Bulls- Rose

Celtics- Rondo

Magic- Gilbert...and no movable assets...will be screwed if  once Dwight leaves

Knicks- Possibly...but that would leave no money for rest of team....and the way the Heat are playing right now, that could make paul think twice about signing a long term deal that could end up the same way

I think the Bobcats have a real shot at making a trade for him this offseason. MJ has probably talked to Paul. I know Paul has mentioned wanting to play back home. So what do we offer? DJ and Diaw, plus the portland pick this year and give the hornets back their 2013 pick. Now our starting lineup would be CP3, Henderson, Jack, Tyrus, Kwame or a different center via Free Agency. That team would probably be better then last years team. Ok, so we are looking at 5th, 6th or 7th seed next year. And now we shift focus to our second objective: DWIGHT!

I know he has said he wants to remain with Orlando. I know its a pipe dream from HELL. But bare with me. This Orlando team he is on now is pretty good. If they don't do much in the playoffs, there really isnt any room for improvement. They are stuck with some horrible contracts (Gilbert/Hedu)!! Even with JRich coming off the books next year, they will be at $74 mill. Then if Dwight wants to sign an extension, it will be roughly the same amount that following year. So as much as Dwight hopes he can stay in Orlando, I doubt it happens. So where does he go?

The most logical trade I can see happening for him, is to the lakers for Bynum and picks. This isn't like the Melo deal. Melo couldn't afford to wait till Free Agency. With the new CBA and possible lockout, Denver lucked up and still had an upper hand. Either they got what they wanted or Melo didn't get his extension. Orlando has NO upper hand. Dwight can just walk. He doesn't need to demand a trade or pray he gets traded. But if he becomes a free agent, why Charlotte? Well by that time, Boston will have Garnett and Allen coming off the books with an aging Pierce for 1 more year. Intriguing? Yea playing with Rondo would be fun, but who's the rest of the team? Kobe would be 34 by then. Heat, Knicks, and Bulls aren't possibilities. This sounds funny, but it could come down to the Nets and Bobcats IF we have CP3. Thats a BIG "if" for us getting CP3 and Dwight making it to Free Agency. But if this was the case, why not come here? The ages are how old players would be in the 2013 season when Dwight hits free agency

C-Dwight (27)

PF-Tyrus (26)

SF- Jackson (34; He would have to sign back, but I'm sure he would if it meant playing with this squad)

SG- Henderson (25)

PG- CP3 (27)

Or....go to the Nets, where their supporting cast is Deron Williams and Morrow. They would have to trade Lopez. I don't know about you, but NOBODY would be able to drive on us with Tyrus and Dwight down low. Plus the lobs from PAul to Dwight would be amazing. Henderson has already showed signs of being pretty good. What's not to love if you were Dwight? To top it off, Paul Silas' contract would be expiring. Not that I want Silas gone, but we could hire Patrick Ewing as our coach.

Long story short. Jordan is too competitive to just sit back and watch our team right now get killed. He doesn't want that. He wants to win like everybody else. So while I was pissed at him for trading Wallace, I hope to god it's because he has a great plan for the future. Like I said, part one is to get CP3. We will see what happens from there.

I'm sure he has a plan

I personally don’t think CP3 is worth 2 first rounders, Diaws expiring and DJ and I don’t think we could make this trade as we already owe Chicago 1 future first rounder in the upcoming years.

What ever his plan, I think everyone knows that he is not just owning a team for the glamour, he is owning a team to win.

What if it was Diaw, DJ and the 2 first rounders for CP3 and Okafor?

I agree with meh

Okafor is solid but not spectacular, overpaid and most importantly he is defensive centre with little post game. Kwame I think can be just as effective and he plays a similar style so he sort of makes Okafor redundant to us.

by Warmec on Mar 11, 2011 8:06 AM EST up reply actions

But will Kwame be back next year?

I’m sure he’ll be looking to cash in on his improved play this season.

by ClipCat on Mar 11, 2011 12:19 PM EST up reply actions

I couldn't see Kwame back if he wants more $

Also…I think Okafor as a defensive center would be a nice mix to add to a PF like Tyrus…

but just my .02

I know he wants Paul

I think we are really hoping he gets to FA. But I would do that trade we need a star to take us to the next level.

I'm with you, I think Jordan will use the picks

if he can’t package them for a superstar, but I do think picking up a marquee player is at the height of his to do list right now.

by Charlotte Bobcat on Mar 10, 2011 11:47 AM EST reply actions

His plan is to create a situation that gives us options...

We had to have salary space, both to ease his losses and in preparation to invest in new assets. Those assets ideally would be to hit on draft picks and pull in a key or star player via trade in a couple of years. He may love CP3, but Paul isn’t going to make a team win by himself anymore than Deron Williams can.

by Bassnote on Mar 10, 2011 12:24 PM EST reply actions

Jordan had a plan when he was with Washington, too

But he couldn’t execute it and was fired. MJ has no credentials to show that he will be a successful team builder. He was a great player but has a very poor track record as an NBA executive.

So far as head of basketball operations and now owner of the Bobcats, Crash, J-Rich, Okafor, Chandler, Felton, and Dudley have all left, while Jax, TT, Diaw, Livingston, and a bunch of very forgetable scrubs, many of whom are/were highly overpaid, are the players he’s brought in. The talent leaving Charlotte has greatly exceeded the talent that has arrived.

Nothing suggests that Charlotte is likely to bring in a highly sought after player like Chris Paul. Remember that Carmelo quickly shut down the idea of signing an extension to play in Charlotte. It’s fine for fans to dream, but the Bobcats need to have a plan that doesn’t rely on quick fixes for success (a la the Dampier dust chip, which in the end, turned to dust).

by ClipCat on Mar 10, 2011 1:09 PM EST reply actions   1 recs

Chris Paul coming to Charlotte

is something very foreseeable if MJ can sell him on building a team around him, as he has said he’d be interested in coming home in the past. However, the allure of a championship is very likely to draw him elsewhere.

In order to draw Paul, meaning the trade would have to be a sign and trade, we would have to already have some pieces in place with cap room to sign someone else. Having not traded Jax/Diaw for anything reasonable has really hurt us since their value isn’t likely to increase any by this off season and Diaw is gonna be on the hook for 9 million.

by adamcawa on Mar 11, 2011 8:35 AM EST up reply actions

Only in your dreams

That’s not even a decent opening offer. Assuming Paul stays reasonably healthy and doesn’t demand to play for a particular team, then there will be a lot of competition for him. NJ’s trade for Deron Williams (elite prospect, quality replacement, and two 1st round picks) is probably the low end of what NO would demand and likely receive. As adamcawa points out, the Bobcats don’t have that to offer.

by ClipCat on Mar 11, 2011 12:29 PM EST up reply actions

i doubt

Paul will command much more than Deron Williams did, but even then we don’t have what NJ had. We would probably have to get rid of Hendo.

by adamcawa on Mar 12, 2011 8:33 AM EST up reply actions

What do you suggest then?

Wait years and years of losing seasons and hope that one of our draft picks turns out a superstar?
I think we’ve had about enough of that,
 I know I have.
I don’t think chris paul will shut down the idea of coming to charlotte. Why would he, Carmelo went home.
Chris Paul would.
And if Chris paul was here Dwight would have no problem coming to charlotte to make a duo of the best point guard and the best center.
Stop being so cynical and let people dream about the next few years.
Thats all we have to show for the Gerald trade.
And for the record, Chris paul is not a quick fix, he is a superstar.

by Pantherfan 2 on Mar 10, 2011 2:17 PM EST reply actions

Paul would come here it really isnt dreaming

I have heard we are definatley interested in Paul when he becomes a FA and MJ really beleives he can get Paul here he doesnt think it will be a problem. Paul is a Jordan brand player and he will want to come home. Dwight Howard im not so sure of.

I think we have brought this back up is because some people are starting to hear what are plans are

And CP3 is part of them. But we should not be worrying about this now its later on we need to worry about this year and the draft. Barnes would be a gift but I hope we arent that bad.

by TS BOBCAT on Mar 10, 2011 11:49 PM EST up reply actions

Love the idea.

And I really do think that MJ will use the picks to get a superstar/s. We could not afford another disastrous draft picks and young talents. Tyrus, Henderson, Augustin, and White are enough already for the young ones. Surround that group with a “BIG 3” and we’ll be seeing our team in the top of the East for years to come.

by mikael matthews on Mar 11, 2011 6:30 AM EST reply actions

Steph Curry??

As much as I’d like to see CP3 come home, I just have my doubts. He’s just like the rest of the “superstars” now….he has his money and now he just wants to play in a major market, partner up with elite players and try to win a title. Personally I’m sick of all of the egos in the NBA and all of these overpaid premadonnas thinking they’re bigger than the game of basketball itself.
Why not go after Steph Curry?? He doesn’t have the ego (yet) and even if he wanted more money to come home, MJ could use his brand. CP3 already had his Jordan endorsement. MJ can sign Steph to his brand and get the kid a sneaker deal to make up for the shortage in contract money (and I think Steph would be a great person for Jordan brand).
Thoughts??

Just a thought,

But to tell you the truth, I don’t think we should be getting too warmed up to any of our players. We didn’t have what New jersey or New York had to offer, but maybe we do now. I mean, think about it. A slew of young talent and draft picks is what got the melo and Williams trades done. What do we have now? Draft picks and young talent. Cunningham, white, d.j., Hendo, tyrus. If these guys keep improving, their trade value will sky rocket. White, Cunninghams, and Hendersons have all risen significantly in recent weeks, and I’m positive dj and tyrus are still well regarded around the league. Remember, Jordans whole agenda is to win a championship, not secure the 8th seed. He knows that this group we have now will never compete for a title, despite all of the promising young talent.

for some reason Paul hasnt made his mark on me to trade all those players
this is not xbox
i dont think that without david west that he has that many assists
bc collison played jus as well if not better than paul when paul was injured last season
kinda like Cassell/Brady…any pass first pg works in that system

by focuslja on Mar 13, 2011 7:41 PM EDT up reply actions

i dont understand

1) We get a superstar
2) We get a player that other superstars (Dwight) want to play with
3) We get out of diaw and jackson’s contract…allowing us to rebuild this team a lot quicker

so what’s the problem here?

by weezy21 on Mar 13, 2011 8:07 PM EDT up reply actions

The problem is that trade would take NOLA from a solid playoff team to a bottomfeeder. And they still would be an expensive team, too. Charlotte doesn’t have the top end prospects to even start a discussion with the Hornets, not that the Hornets are even likely to trade CP anyway.

by ClipCat on Mar 14, 2011 10:53 AM EDT up reply actions

my original offer was this...

DJ…young pg who can be a good starter for years to come

Diaw…the big expriring

Two 1st round picks….thats pretty good for a team that know CP3 is leaving

by weezy21 on Mar 14, 2011 3:14 PM EDT up reply actions

But they will try and get more

Thats why we might have to include Stephen

he’s getting old…contract isn’t great…most ppl still view him as a headcase

by weezy21 on Mar 14, 2011 8:21 PM EDT up reply actions

i think Stephen is doin well at the SF and i dont think Paul (overrated) is worth 2 first round picks and Jackson… having Paul and no jumpshooters OR mobile big men (West Okafor Chandler) is a waste and puts us right at the #8 or #7 spot again…

by focuslja on Mar 14, 2011 10:44 PM EDT up reply actions

We will get more shooters

Plus Jackson is getting old we need to start building a young championship team like the Thunder. You might be the only person that thinks Paul is overated lol.

by TS BOBCAT on Mar 14, 2011 10:52 PM EDT up reply actions

I jus think its moreso the SYSTEM than it is him…
jus look at D.Collison’s numbers when Paul was injured… not only were they good numbers…they were incredible. any point guard surrounded by that many shooters and mobile big men would be an all-star…put John Wall, Jennings, or Brooks in that system and you get tha same if not better results

by focuslja on Mar 14, 2011 11:07 PM EDT up reply actions

Okay but for him to be great every year...

Doesnt really support the argument, Your right with good players a PG can be great and the Hornets have not always been good they got good when Chris got there that tells you something. Plus every player, coach, or anyone will tell you he is the best and they know more then any of us.

by TS BOBCAT on Mar 14, 2011 11:17 PM EDT up reply actions

Actually the Hornets were only bad the year b4 Paul came to the team (the moving/adjustment year)…the two years b4 that they were 500+

by focuslja on Mar 14, 2011 11:30 PM EDT up reply actions

The problem is…we don’t need (NOR ARE WE GETTING) Dwight Howard or Chris Paul. U’ve got Everybody goin to Miami for an easy Championship, Boston getting everyone in free agency, NY is the place to be, NJ promising players chances to be Billionaires. No star is comin to a Charlotte. But…there are players waiting in the wings for a chance to be the next Kobe or Durant. OJ Mayo, Mikael Petrius, T-Will, Keleena Azibuike ect. Its more than 30 players in the NBA and I’m sure given the right opportunity/system/chemistry any combination can win a championship.

Kevin Durant and Kobe are ten years apart

Obviously those types of players dont come around very often. If OJ Mayo wasn’t a scrub he would be a baller. Hes been given more than enough time to develop. I would never take him. Petrius? Really? He got so much playing time on Orlando and never showed any promise to be a superstar. Do you realize that all the good teams have gotten good through free agency? The Celtics, Heat, Knicks, Bulls(MJ days). We draft horribly. We could have a championship team by now but we don’t. We basically will have to either rely on free agency or figure out how to draft the right way. That needs to be the new Bobcats logo: Draft the Right Way.

by Pantherfan 2 on Mar 13, 2011 11:54 PM EDT reply actions

I would MAYBE bring in Mayo as Hendo's backup

That would be a pretty solid bench with White, Cunningham(if resigned), Livingston, Mayo and someone else. I would do it. Since Randolph is likely to leave Memphis, and they’ll be needing a PF, why not trade Diaw+a pick for Mayo?

by mangoes52 on Mar 14, 2011 12:53 AM EDT up reply actions

Who says Randolph is likely to leave Memphis?

He’s their most productive player, and I expect them to try to keep both Randolph and Gasol. Randolph should cost them less as I don’t see many teams with cap space who are likely to offer him big money.

by ClipCat on Mar 14, 2011 10:58 AM EDT up reply actions

Word around the league, not that I have inside information or anything,

is that the team won’t have enough to keep Randolph and Gasol and are intent on keeping Gasol a Grizzly long term. That’s not saying that don’t like Randolph, they love him. They will just be put in a tough position because they’ve already given Conley and Gay ridiculous extensions and are on the verge of doing the same with Gasol. I think whether Randolph returns or not has a LOT to do with how Memphis does in the playoffs.

He is getting better and better he does everything you want out of a starting player on a championship team. Also I watched him in a practice one day he can hit the 3 he just needs to work on it. by mangoes52 on Mar 15, 2011 12:14 AM EDT up reply actions

Gary Neal, Mikael Petrius, Terrence Williams, Shawne Williams, Mayo, Dorell Wright….one of those guys. and MAYBE jus MAYBE a center…Kwame has a terrible stigma but since Silas has been around, his stats havent been that bad (esp since there arent that may good centers in the NBA period)

by focuslja on Mar 14, 2011 2:30 PM EDT up reply actions

None

Well no big name FA C’s. Gasol will get resigned and idk about the rest.

by mangoes52 on Mar 14, 2011 12:49 AM EDT reply actions

well if u've been watching

i dont think we need a center…Brown is playin the best ball of his career and in the NBA there’s not many natural centers gettin 9pts 7rebs…thas good enuff to me esp if Tyrus comes back to avg around 14-18pts and 7rebs…I still stand by grabbing Terrence Williams and OJ Mayo…we are very weak at he SG position…Hendo is ok but imagine wut Mayo or Azibuike or JR Smith (who is a FA this yr) could do with that amount of Playing time…sheesh even Gary Neal could put up some big number with his shooting ability and skillset. Then havin T-Will backin up Jackson until his contract expires (bc face it, nobody gonna trade for him)…then we hav a a good YOUNG core and a great bench

by focuslja on Mar 14, 2011 2:15 PM EDT up reply actions

Brown is killing us with all his missed layups and chip shots

He’s rebounding well and his post defense is pretty good, but let’s be serious. He should not be a starter.

by drapht00 on Mar 14, 2011 2:30 PM EDT up reply actions

yeah true but his numbers arent that bad…REALISTICALLY there are no productive centers (Dwight, Perkins, Gortat ect) goin to come to the Bobcats…i think we stick with wut we have in Kwame/Pryz and occassionally Cunningham/Tyrus…and look for a starting SG and a Scoring backup SF

by focuslja on Mar 14, 2011 2:34 PM EDT up reply actions

so u have

Pg- Augustine/Livingston
SG- Gary Neal or Mayo or Azibuike or Petrius/Hendo
SF-Jackson/T-Will or Mo Evans
PF- Tyrus/Diaw/White
C- Brown/Pryz
thats a good start and guaranteed 7-5 spot in the east (ATL is on their last leg)
AND ITS CHEAP

by focuslja on Mar 14, 2011 2:20 PM EDT reply actions

I love that lineup

but i would still start hendo at SG with Mayo coming off the bench. T-will backing up Jack would be great too. You think Cunningham won’t stick with the team?

by mangoes52 on Mar 14, 2011 8:01 PM EDT reply actions

i think he is good to keep around IF we get rid of Diaw… he is proving to be very effective. With Henderson though, I jus cant see him on a top 5 playoff team in any conference…if he can work on his outside shot this summer maybe i could reconsider

by focuslja on Mar 14, 2011 11:14 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't think the 'plan' is going to be elaborate, or flashy

I think it’s going to require time, patience and trust on the part of the fanbase. If ‘the plan’ involved bringing superstars in immediately then Gerald Wallace wouldn’t have been traded. This isn’t about setting the Bobcats up for 2012-13, it’s about setting them up for 2015-2020.

When you’re sitting on the cusp of the playoffs it doesn’t matter if you’re just in, or just out… you’re picking in that magical limbo that normally nets you role players, but no superstars. It’s imperative that the Bobcats find their superstar.

In June you see where the balls bounce, maybe you get lucky… but as it stands you’re picking in the low teens and again in the late teens. Here is where you probably need to package both picks together and try and get into the top 5. Don’t ask me who to pick here… maybe it’s Harrison Barnes, maybe it’s Derrick Williams or Kyrie Irving, you have to find a superstar.

You sit with your young players until February and around this time you look to deal Boris Diaw and Stephen Jackson at the deadline. Diaw is a valuable $9 million expiring, and Jackson is a lot easier to swallow with one year left on his deal. You send them to contenders looking to continue this ‘multiple superstar’ trend and you amass more draft picks for the 2012 draft, remembering you don’t have a pick from Tyrus Thomas.

Basically you run the 2011 play again… unless you get lucky try and move both your picks and get into the top of the round again and maybe this year you look for a center. 2011’s draft is week at the five, but as it stands 2012’s isn’t. You take the best young center you can and continue to mold your team.

Diop now becomes a valuable expiring contract, you can try to move him for a piece for the puzzle. The 2013 draft rolls around and you have two picks again. Given that you’ve now moved into the top 5 two years running you sit back, and draft some role players depending where you end up. You look to solidify those 6th and 7th positions with really good players (think when OKC drafted Jeff Green).

Is this plan flashy? No… is it sexy? No… but ultimately it helps to think about this team building like the Oklahoma City Thunder rather than the Miami Heat… because it’s the best way for small market teams to make an impact.

Beautifully said.

But will we all here have the patience?

by Roger, Roger on Mar 14, 2011 10:53 PM EDT up reply actions

i dont think we will

if we are goin to be rebuilding until 2015 we as Charlotte fans might as well get ready to start rooting for another city. Our market is entirely too small to continue to be mediocre. We may be the WORST expansion team (other than Toronto) in terms of success and the period of time we are taking to “get this right”

by focuslja on Mar 14, 2011 11:18 PM EDT up reply actions

21st in the NBA in average attendance, and just 200 per game from 20th

MJ is such a draw card that he alone will keep this team afloat for a while. Oftentimes it has less to do with the number of people showing up, and more about the sponsors a team can attract and the arena they play in being an attractive spot for non-basketball events.

Sponsorship is at a record high (mostly due to MJ) and with events like the DNC being held at the Cable Box there’s plenty of demand for the arena by non-basketball events.

All of this also fails to take into account the wild card- the team name. Should New Orleans be contracted or move and Charlotte are able to become the Hornets again there would be so much buzz created (no pun intended) that it would sustain the team for a while, unless they completely fail in the draft these next three years.

Next year will look a LOT like this year with deadline moves that make us worse in the present, better in the future. And hopefully that draft is better than this year. Remember, our pick goes to Chicago that year but is lottery protected so it’s very likely we still have it.

I like Derrick Williams. He’s highly intelligent on the court, doesn’t make bad decisions, is very efficient (those 3 all go together really) and he’s sneaky athletic. He doesn’t play above the rim exclusively, but he can get up there (see his dunks on State this past year).

by drapht00 on Mar 14, 2011 10:57 PM EDT up reply actions

PS

No way we’re high enough to get him, I’m just saying he’s the kind of guy I’d be looking for. Intelligent, versatile, and efficient. I’ve had enough inefficiency with Jack (but I absolutely DO appreciate everything he’s done for us).

by drapht00 on Mar 14, 2011 10:58 PM EDT up reply actions

I believe so

Minnesota right now are trending for the #3 overall pick, and there isn’t much talent at the top of the draft at any of their position of need.

- Kyrie Irving: They have Flynn and Rubio in the wings
- Sullinger or Perry Jones: They have Kevin Love
- Barnes, Williams,Terrence Jones: They just drafted Wesley Johnson top 5.

If there’s one team primed to move back and want more role players and not one top pick it’s Minnesota.

by James Dator on Mar 15, 2011 7:43 AM EDT up reply actions

Will we be able to trade our pick on draft day?

Or does the no trade rule still apply to our pick?

by Charlotte Bobcat on Mar 15, 2011 10:37 AM EDT up reply actions

Charlotte can trade one pick, but they can't trade both picks without acquiring a 1st in either this draft or the next one.

I doubt that packaging both picks together is going to allow the team to move up more than a couple spots though. Late 1st round picks aren’t worth much, especially in weak drafts. When the Bobcats had the chance to move up to draft CP, the cost of a top 4 pick was the #5 and the #12.

by ClipCat on Mar 15, 2011 12:45 PM EDT up reply actions

It should be noted though that this is considered an exceptionally weak draft at the top. There isn’t the perceived drop off there was from Chris Paul to Raymond Felton.

Normally yes, you’d be right on the money but 2011 is shaping up to be much more compact and less stratified throughout the draft to the point where someone might not think the difference between #4 and #12 is that much

by James Dator on Mar 15, 2011 1:25 PM EDT up reply actions

Derrick Williams and Terrence Jones

Yes please. Chad Ford was comparing Jones to Gerald Wallace with a better jumper. He battles for boards at SF position the way Crash does and uses his athleticism to finish.

Jones scares me. Bust potential (if a crappy draft like this can have a “bust”).

by drapht00 on Mar 15, 2011 11:38 AM EDT up reply actions

Alright great..

Let’s say that Charlotte trades up, and gets the 3rd pick. Irving and Williams are gone. Who would you choose?

by mangoes52 on Mar 15, 2011 7:51 PM EDT up reply actions

Me... I like Harrison Barnes

I know it’s blasphemous to compare college players with NBA players, but he looks and plays like Kevin Durant to me.

I think at worst you end up with Danny Granger, and I would be a-okay with that at the 3.

by James Dator on Mar 15, 2011 11:08 PM EDT up reply actions

Id like those 2 but i want Barnes so bad

Where is he expected to go and would Stephen Jackson get us a good enough pick

by TS BOBCAT on Mar 16, 2011 4:14 PM EDT up reply actions

Barnes is a top 5 pick

Jack probably won’t get traded in the offseason. None wants him.

by mangoes52 on Mar 16, 2011 7:18 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't think either Jones nor Sullinger are big enough upgrades over a healthy Tyrus Thomas

They’ll be good, no doubt… but I think especially in Silas’ system TT will be nasty.

We need youth at the 3 and 5 right now. I don’t think there are very good centers in the draft

by James Dator on Mar 16, 2011 9:10 PM EDT up reply actions

Early days yet… but as projected we’d be looking at guys like:
- Jimmer Fredette (BYU)
- Jordan Hamilton (Texas)
- Kawhi Leonard (San Diego State)

yea...

Hamilton is a pretty talented SF. I would be happy if we get him. Now the question is who do we get with NO’s pick? If it was up to me, it would be JaJuan Johnson( PF from Purdue)

for the most part, he has played awful this year…I was thrilled when he decided to stay, but i think he really killed his draft stock….maybe it’s just an off year, but i would not have the confidence to draft him…i know we are thin at SF, but I would hate to see singler drafted and him steal minutes over cunningham who is way better

by TS BOBCAT on Mar 18, 2011 11:06 PM EDT up reply actions

i think Kwame’s history precedes him. if u look at the numbers, he is having an excellent season. 9pts sometimes more, 6-11rebs…decent to me. I say we keep him unless we can get Gortat (not)

by focuslja on Mar 19, 2011 9:54 AM EDT up reply actions

I like Kwame

But he has started hurting us because he cant keep control of a ball. His turnovers kill are momentum and allow fast break points. But I do hope we keep him around I just want him as a back up.

In Reality

Kwame is not as bad as u would like to believe… 8-10pts 5-9rebs is not bad numbers for a center. Comparing him to Dwight or Nene is not fair. He is not there to take on a large scoring load.

by focuslja on Mar 20, 2011 11:57 PM EDT up reply actions

Dont Know About these guys contracts...

I.ve said this b4: Cole Aldrich (OKC jus acquired Nazr/Perkins)…Mozgov (everything Kwame lacks: speed, good hands, finishes strong)…Zaza, Hilton Armstrong, Gortat, Hawes/Speights (whichever one isnt starting) and I still dont Know much about this Aaron Gray kid.

by focuslja on Mar 21, 2011 1:10 AM EDT up reply actions

I don't think Kwame is especially bad

I just don’t think he’s comparable to Tyson Chandler, at least this year’s version of Chandler. Kwame is a solid backup center and a below average starter. That’s very good value for what the Bobcats are paying.

Hopefully the Bobcats will be able to afford him next year, too, because I don’t expect them to acquire anyone better this offseason. There aren’t any centers in this draft likely to be ready to start as a rookie either.

McGee looks like the future at C for Washington, and Blatche would just rot on the bench.

oh my bad...i think he starts at PF for the Wizards

but i remember reading something on ESPN that said either McGee or Blatche will likely be gone for some reason.(probably Blatche). I think a Blatche for Diaw and a future pick would work. The guy has serious size(6’11 260) and he’s only 24 years old.

i dont think he he would be outta position at all esp if we had a halway decent center to split the time. Al Jefferson skillset if made for a PF. But Blatche is fit for both positions

We gave up a 1st round pick in the 20s

for Tyrus. If he could get healthy we could get even more for him if we were inclined to trade him. Not saying this is a move we want to do, but at the same time whether we have Tyrus on the roster isn’t going to make/break the team.

Washington wouldn't

You can’t trade players you don’t want for players you do. If the Wiz had Diaw, they’d be trying to get rid of him, too. To get Blatsche, Charlotte would have to give up their draft picks, and I’m not sure that would get it done.

by ClipCat on Mar 21, 2011 10:54 PM EDT up reply actions

Say no to blatche!

all he does is spot up and shoot jumpers…he’s not a banger down low either…he’s like a hobo version of bosh

by weezy21 on Mar 22, 2011 9:59 AM EDT up reply actions

I doubt it

Charlotte needs to find a trade partner that is looking to add a veteran forward. Washington wants the same thing as the Bobcats, to reboot the franchise.

The Wiz started a couple years ahead of Charlotte, and they only have one expensive vet left, Rashard Lewis, who plays the same position as Diaw. Washington would gladly take Diaw and other Bobcats in exchange for Lewis, but that doesn’t help Charlotte. Also, I doubt that the Bobcats are looking to take on an expensive player with a long contract from a losing team with a lot of baggage. Maybe there could be a TT for Blatsche trade, but that only happens if both teams want to get rid of their PF’s.

by ClipCat on Mar 22, 2011 10:01 AM EDT up reply actions

i think Blatche would produce alot faster for us than TT would. I think its cool to watch TT play (just not on ur fav team)

by focuslja on Mar 22, 2011 10:39 AM EDT up reply actions

I doubt it...

Diaw could do damage on a wizards team. He is everything Rashard Lewis wants to be…

by focuslja on Mar 22, 2011 10:36 AM EDT up reply actions

Sounds like Charlotte should keep him

This year, Diaw and Lewis look pretty comparable to me. Diaw’s the better passer, and Lewis is the better shooter. Neither produces enough to justify their contract or is consistently helping their team win games.

by ClipCat on Mar 22, 2011 2:44 PM EDT up reply actions

i disagree but...

if you could, who/what would you suggest we do with Diaw? Rashard’s production went down bc he is on his last leg. Diaw’s production dwindled bc Augustine is not a pass first pg. Diaw was similar to Lamar Odom (point fwrd). But our offense doesnt start with our pg. it starts with our SF (which is rare and i can bet its confusing)

by focuslja on Mar 22, 2011 3:29 PM EDT up reply actions

I’d probably keep Diaw and let his contract expire unless he can be traded for something better, such as another expiring contract(s) and a draft pick. I doubt Charlotte can get a useful player not signed to a bad contract for him.

by ClipCat on Mar 22, 2011 6:58 PM EDT up reply actions

i guess u're right

but i jus dont see us trading away Diaw…I think Mr Swanson should blog about the kind of team (defensive, running ect) direction we are planning bc that is important when choosing draft players and FAs

by focuslja on Mar 22, 2011 8:54 PM EDT up reply actions

Kwame this year> Lopez overall

Charlotte needs a C, a Backup SG, and someone who can take over for Jack in the future. My solution? C=idk, SG=Mayo, SF= Hamilton(Texas)

by mangoes52 on Mar 18, 2011 11:10 PM EDT reply actions

I just saw bleachereports latest draft

It had us taking Kemba Walker with the first pick and Tristan Thompson with the NOLA pick
Im ok with Walker after giving it thought DJ is a starting PG but he will never take us to the next level I dont think (hope im wrong)
Hate the Thompson pick im dead set on Noguiera. Im scared Mayo wouldnt be happy on the bench, I do agree on Hamilton.
I have been trying to figure out who we could take with our 2nd pick and the only people I could think of are Chandler Parsons, Tyler Zeller, Tyler Honeycutt,Jajuan Johnson,Fab Melo, and David Light. If Kyle Singlers stock drops and he falls to us I think we should take a chance on him in the 2nd round. Also as for the backup SG i would love to sign Malcom DeLaney as an undrafted FA.

by TS BOBCAT on Mar 18, 2011 11:32 PM EDT up reply actions

I say take our chances w/ Kwame & Pryz. Jwane jus needs a chance to play. Charles Oakley & Silas WILL make him tougher. To me; our main targets are SG (backup or starting) and a backup SF.

by focuslja on Mar 20, 2011 6:04 PM EDT up reply actions

I honestly don't care who gets picked in the 2nd round

He won’t help the team drastically. I let’s say we have the 14th and 20th picks, i would draft Hamilton with the 14th, then Johnson with the 20th. Johnson is a reach at 20, but i think it’ll be worth it.

by mangoes52 on Mar 19, 2011 2:41 AM EDT reply actions

He has potential to take over that C spot for us in a year or 2

The only thing that concerns me is his weight at 221 but he could bulk up once he gets here. I wouldnt be so sure MJ will take this big a stretch to get him though,he will be there in the 2nd and MJ is tired of making draft mistakes he wont risk hurting his reputation even more.

IF Kwame was to back up (which i still dont see him as THAT big of a problem).. then i still stand by having a veteran starting. Kwame is still fairly young. ZAZA PECHULIA…OKUR (has a couple years left ehhh…) and with OKC getting Kendrick Perkins and Nazr…COLE ALDRICH anyone?

oh yeah

Mozgov (good hands, rebounder, runner and strong at the basket)…and DOES ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING about this Aaron Gray kid from NOH?

by focuslja on Mar 19, 2011 12:22 PM EDT up reply actions

My guess is that MJ is happy either way

If we make the playoffs, great. He can say he’s put a playoff team on the floor for 2 straight years and get the revenue from 2 home games.

If we miss the playoffs, he’ll get a pick somewhere 7-10. He can hope for a ping pong ball and either take 2 players or package them and move up to get someone he really likes.

Either way, I think he’s satisfied. I’m starting to think option #2 is preferred because I’m scared to see this team make the playoffs. First of all, it will be an embarrassment to be the worst playoff team in NBA history. And then there’s the fact we’ll get totally annihilated. Don’t get me wrong, I cannot and will not ever pull for this team to lose a game. And as a STH, the playoffs are always fun. But the draft picks will be more valuable and if we keep losing at our current pace, Milwaukee, Detroit, and the Clippers may pass us so the pick will keep getting better. Who knows? But I don’t think we really lose either way.

My heart pumps no Kool-Aid

Hating the DRAFT for us pt 93

I wanna see us go to the playoffs period. Where I live(in NC), we dont get to see the Bobcats play at all (even on Fox Sports South who should be showing the games). The Only way that I will be happy with some lottery picks is if we trade them for an already established player

by focuslja on Mar 21, 2011 12:02 AM EDT reply actions

doesnt have to be like Gerald Wallace...

Im talking about a young solid 2/3yr player that has played on a NBA level already. One that we know has a chance of helping us get over the 10-7seed hump. a consistent 17-20pt player. A healthy Jackson/Augustine is almost 40pts alone. Hendo is too streaky and Inconsistent (would b excellent leading the second unit: Him and Livinston would be dynamic). Diaw may lack passion but his numbers always end up pretty decent 12-16pts. Hopefully Tyrus gets on track (he is soooo overrated to me). Kwame’s numbers arent that bad under Silas (9pts 9rebs) (Pair him up with a Cole Aldrich or Mozgov = solid B frontcourt).

All of our units are way too inconsistent this season.

Our main focus right now is to find a system that is unique for Charlotte basketball. Silas and co. should design and develop their own brand of basketball, whether its defense-oriented or run-and-gun, or triangle offense, etc. Look at last year. Our roster were just as bad as the one we have right now, in terms of stats. But because Larry Brown has a system (which was 3 years in the making), that particular roster achieved 2 memorable things: make the playoffs and be considered as one of the top defensive teams in the league. That’s what championship teams are made of. I’m tired of all the “add-subtract” thing on our roster every single season. Maybe its just me, I don’t know.

I hate it also

But I think longterm LB hurt us more than he helped. Tyson gone. We get Carroll & Kwame. J.Rich/Dudley gone. Raja/Diaw. I liked Diaw but that trade just seem lazy and rushed. Shannon Brown gone. We get Radmonivic? LETS NOT FORGET HOW TALENTED WALTER HERMANN (crowd goes wild) WAS!!!! (wouldnt have needed Tyrus with Walt-Diesel). Okafor is gone. We couldve had a Azibuike or Morrow. T-Will WANTED TO COME TO CHARLOTTE. Y not try to get him or Tony Allen instead of Livingston?

The "past" management gave Larry Brown everything he wanted because they know for a fact that he is the coach that CAN lead this team to the finals

And I believe that too. And then Jordan came in and let Raymond Felton go. I don’t know but sometimes, it is not as easy as NBA 2k11 or something, where you can just take whoever player that you want.

Jordan brought Larry to the Team

Larry Brown did play 2k11 with our team. He didnt Like a player and they were traded. Am I the only one that noticed that Augustine and Felton did a slow spin move at the top of the key in the playoffs? I still to this day wonder if LB made them do that. LB did us more harm than good during his tenure. 2 great draft picks that didnt get to play, Flip Murray, Acie Law, Tyson Chandler, Okafor (first ever bobcats draft pick who avg a double double his whole career) Shannon Brown

that wasnt only in the playoffs that was ALL of last season

I never understood it and neither did the defense. keeping them on their toes i guess. and DJ’s spin was slow, Feltons was very quick

really?

we dont get to see many Bobcats games (and I LIVE in NC…smh). i think both Augustine/Felton were on totally different pages than LB. even with the playoff run, i think he did more harm and we probably wouldve made the playoffs with a halfway decent coach last season
