Around SBN: Seahawks Trade for TE Kellen Winslow

A letter from Michael Jordan

Got this letter in my email yesterday.  Figured I'd share it with you loyal Bobcats fans.  If I felt that Michael Jordan actually was sending it, I'd respond back and let him know what I really think!  Instead, I'll have to wait to see him at the game, lol.

Statement from Michael Jordan
As many of you know by now our team has undergone some significant changes. As the trade deadline approached, we were presented with an opportunity we felt was in the long-term best interest of the team. The two first round draft-picks we received will be part of the foundation that the future of this team will be built upon. We also were able to secure players that we believe will continue to help us remain competitive as we strive to reach the playoffs this year. At the same time, the contracts we acquired will afford us the flexibility to be aggressive during the off season.
Since becoming owner of the team, I have been consistent in stating that we are in this to build an organization that can play for an NBA championship. I will not waver from this goal and everything we do will be to get us in position to have sustained success in this league. As the competitive landscape continues to change, this trade will get us one step closer to having a team that can compete with the elite in the Eastern Conference.
I cannot express how much I appreciate your support and trust as we continue the process of building a team that all of our fans can be proud of.

I beleive in Michael

Ever since he took over he has done so much for this team he loves the fans and loves the city and he knows to be competitive we need a star and right now the only way for a small market team to get one is to draft them. So he got us 2 draft picks that could be that star for us. Now hopefully this new CBA will help make small markets more competitive, but MJ can see what talent Hendo has and knew he would make up for Geralds loss so we are IMO about the same as when we had Gerlad and when Tyrus gets back feeling good we should be ready to challenge the Pacers who just lost Mike Dunleavy for awhile.

I bet MJ will be a "no show" tonight

The crowd will be small and emotional. I bet he ducks out.

I think this is a game where he should be as visible as ever.

If he goes into hiding, that may suggest that he’s not behind his own decisions, or that he regrets them. Being perched in his normal spot next to the bench would say to me that he’s not going to disappear in the face of controversial moves.

I’m just glad the letter was dated 2011!

Hopelessly scouring the internet for a free copy of Screamin' Jay Hawkins' "Brujo." and "Hurricane Coming" by CCS.

That is the same letter that was dated in 2010

It was a .pdf file out of a URL, so after they sent it out, after about a half hour or so, they changed it to 2011. Deleted all the comments about the wrong date on there FB page. Slick, MJ, Verry Slick. Lmao.

I win as if im used to it, and i loose as if i like it for a change.

double fail Mike was there and jumping out of his chair when Eddie hit that 3 at the end Also the crowd looked pretty good it seemed dead in the first half but the crowd really got behind the team in the second half.

Yeah, I was glad he showed

And the crowd was kind of dead and catatonic at first but we livened up in the second half.

MJ is a Disgrace

On his watch, the Bobcats have now turned Wallace, Okafor and Felton into a couple backups and a couple mid to late 1st round picks, basically nothing of value. Charlotte said Okafor had to go because of his contract (when the real problem were trades for Nazr and Diop). Now they can’t afford to keep Wallace (because they are stuck with Jax, Diaw, Najera, Carroll and Diop).

It’s tough to accept as a fan, but now only Cleveland has less talent than Charlote. And Cleveland at least will have two lottery picks in this year’s draft. The Bobcats will be a very bad team before they have a chance to be good.

There is no reason to believe MJ has a plan that will make this team even respectable in the foreseeable future. He has dumped the entire core of the early years, squandered lottery picks, and is stuck with the scraps left over from shortsighted, capricious deals made in the Larry Brown years. He’s caused more damage to the Bobcats than he ever did to Washington. Once he was the epitome of winning in the NBA, but now he’s just another rich, arrogant loser.

by ClipCat on Feb 25, 2011 5:20 PM EST reply actions

Geez dude chill out on him

He isnt preparing for the CBA and he wants to rebuild and find players to make us a championship team Gerald wasnt gonna take us there. I mean why would he be doing this if he didnt think it was best do you think he has nothing to lose? The guy is losing money in this so that he can put a team on the court that can contend for a championship not the 8th seed. He has people around him that know what they are doing he would not be doing this knowing he was going to lose alot of money if he didnt think it would help. So calm down your overeacting, plus alot of people wanted Raymond gone so we could get a better PG and alot of the trades made were Larry Browns idea and he is a HOF coach why wouldnt he listen to him. Why dont you think about the good he has done he has done better with drafting and Got D.J. and Gerald he has also traded for Stephen and Tyrus and that trade got us to the playoffs and he has brought new sponsors and fans to Charlotte and gave people a reason to talk about us.

by TS BOBCAT on Feb 25, 2011 5:47 PM EST up reply actions

And what i mean by losing money

Is that fans arent going to be coming to games probably and the team already loses like 10 million a year this will make things worse and we all know he isnt as rich as he once was.

Only Cleveland has less talent?

So you wanna tell me that Minnesota, Sarcramento, Toronto, Washington, New Jersey, and Detroit all have more talent than we do? Gimme a break.

by KaiserBromley on Feb 26, 2011 1:04 AM EST up reply actions

Minny and Sac probably have more "talent"

And New Jersey will very soon if D-Will didn’t put them over by himself.

They just haven’t figured out how to use that talent together as one yet.

by adamcawa on Feb 26, 2011 10:04 AM EST up reply actions

Yes, that is correct

But not the same as saying all those teams are better than Charlotte right now. Most of the teams you mentioned have young players who still are learning to convert their talent into wins, and Detroit is just a dysfunctional mess. Charlotte lacks both stars and depth. Talent was never Charlotte’s strength so giving away their best player really sets them back. Going to take a couple losing years before Charlotte will rebuild even to the extent of Minnesota or Sacramento if that’s what MJ really means to do.

by ClipCat on Feb 26, 2011 11:12 AM EST up reply actions

So D.J., Tyrus, and Henderson aren't talented?

I understand not wanting to overrate players, but judging from their production on the court, these guys are just as good as a Brandon Jennings, a Serge Ibaka, and a Eric Gordon. And that’s not to mention Jax (who is still a top 5-8 player at his position). What does Minnesota, Sacramento, and all of these other teams have better than us? Potential? If that’s the case, then call it that, potential. Because they haven’t shown anything that tells me they are better right now or will be in the future than us now. Sure, they have Kevin Love, Michael Beasley, Tyreke Evans, Demarcus Cousins, and all of these other guys, but you don’t start actually talking about talent until they put the wins up, which hasn’t happened yet. I know they all need years to develop, but D.J. is in his third year and Hendo is in his second. Yet they have no talent compared to these other guys? The stat sheet and win columns suggest otherwise. We already have a young nucleus who is gaining experience “WINNING GAMES” which is a clear advantage we already hold over the other rebuilding teams in the league. And if we heard Gerald Wallace got hurt and was out for the year before he got traded, we wouldn’t call it rebuilding, but it would essentially be the same thing. Us playing without Gerald. We love him, I was one of his biggest fans. Still am. But you’re overvaluing his impact on the court by A LOT. This team is still very capable of reaching the playoffs THIS YEAR and improving each year after.

MJ has been here since 2006

I’m judging what has happened over the last 4 1/2 years. That’s plenty of time to make an informed opinion. MJ wants to win, but he’s done nothing to make that happen, and the team is going backwards quickly. There is no building going on. There has been no consistant plan either.

by ClipCat on Feb 25, 2011 6:11 PM EST up reply actions

What?

Your going to bad mouth the guy and blame him for every mistake since 2006 no wonder you think that. Do you really think Jordan was making all those decisions? That was Bob Johnson dude sure MJ drafted Morrison but you cannot blame the guy and say he has done nothing to build this team in 4 years because he hasnt been calling the shots for even 1 year yet. What do you think we were going to get for Gerald dude we might have been able to get something but nothing to make us a championship team and we have no players to trade to get us championship players so what do you expest him to do crap a winning team he may be amazing but he aint that good.We need a star to win the championship he will use these picks to get us good players he has brought us D.J., Hendo, and Tyrus that is our future are you blind to the fact he is the main reason they are in Charlotte and he plans on using these picks to draft a future SF and C and that is his plan if you want to hate on him for doing what everyone else feels is the right thing go ahead. But i hope you know that the way you bashed Jordan sounds like something I would read from Bill Simmons.

by TS BOBCAT on Feb 25, 2011 6:26 PM EST up reply actions

Jordan has been the head of basketball operations since 1986

He brought in Rod Higgins and Larry Brown so he’s ultimately responsible for the decisions they made. Whether or not Jordan came up with the ideas for trades, he had to approve them. I’ve been plenty critical of Larry Brown in the past, too. But whatever damage Larry Brown did was first enabled by Jordan.

I don’t care what the Bobcats could get for Wallace. If they couldn’t make a good deal, then they shouldn’t have settled for a bad one. No, the Bobcats weren’t going to be a championship contender during Wallace’s career, but now they aren’t going to be competing for the playoffs for the foreseeable future either.

Jordan’s declaration that he is building a championship team rings just as hollow as Dan Snyder’s proclamation that Cleveland will win a championship before LeBron does. Lofty words are worthless if they aren’t backed up by actions.

Hopefully the Bobcats will bottom out over the next two years and then ascend, but IMO that’s the best case scenario. Right now they appear to be a couple years behind Washington, Minnesota and Sacramento.

by ClipCat on Feb 25, 2011 7:48 PM EST up reply actions

Well now i see

You have just given up on the team for awhile and thats fine think what you want but we are not even out of the playoff run yet. We were winning when Gerald was injured. But i dont see your logic behind your argument for Jordan hurting this team or saying we will bottom out I mean I dont see where you see that happening when we have draft picks and pretty much almost just as good a roster before Gerald left because Hendo will take Geralds place nicely, but hey you think what you want. i think your just frustrated and taking it out on him just dont give up hope yet man.

by TS BOBCAT on Feb 25, 2011 8:13 PM EST up reply actions

Actually, I’ve been very critical of Jordan on this blog long before this trade. I despise him as a person and disrespect him as a basketball executive. I’m very frustrated with the trade but not terribly surprised.

As for what the Bobcats got in the trade, I don’t think it will amount to much. Prz is a rental backup center. Cunningham is competing with White to be a 3rd string PF. And the picks will be too low to really make a difference. As I wrote before the trade went down, trading Wallace only made sense if the Bobcats could also dump Jax and Diaw. Then they would actually have some cap space and could begin rebuilding.

by ClipCat on Feb 25, 2011 8:32 PM EST up reply actions

I 100% agree

about Jordan making a mistake by not trading Jax and Boris as well. If Boris is on the team going into next season, I am going to be livid.

by adamcawa on Feb 25, 2011 9:32 PM EST up reply actions

We'll probably actually get a good deal for him next year.

Q. What Do You Tell A Girl With Two Black Eyes?
A. Nothing, You've Already Told Her Twice.

by Charlotte Bobcat on Feb 26, 2011 1:38 AM EST up reply actions

That sounds like empty wishing

The reason Crash was traded is because he is the one Bobcat who has the game to help a good team improve. Jax and Diaw presumably weren’t traded because they weren’t valued by other teams.

Jax fits the Bobcats because he shoots a lot, and the Bobcats don’t have many scorers. He would hurt a good team, who would have better (more efficient) offensive options. And of course he comes with a lot of baggage and is past his prime.

Diaw could be useful as a backup forward, but his contract is far too big to justify a team trading for him to use as a rotation player. If his contract could be renegotiated, then the Bobcats could get a 2nd round pick for him. But the rub is that they can’t get just a draft pick. They would also have to take back $9M in contracts of players the other team valued less than Diaw.

by ClipCat on Feb 28, 2011 1:00 PM EST up reply actions

Thats all true,

All I can really say is his value will be higher next year compared to this year, but I agree.

Those teams have young stars and are a couple years ahead in terms of rebuilding

I’d trade the whole Bobcats team for John Wall, Kevin Love, or Tyreke Evans. Of course that’s not saying much since nobody wants most of the Bobcats due to their contracts. Maybe you don’t see it yet, but the Bobcats are going to get a lot worse before they get better.

by ClipCat on Feb 26, 2011 11:16 AM EST up reply actions

We have just as many young stars as them

D.J., Tyrus, and Gerald. I dont see how you can say they are further along if anything we are further along cause we have the better team. I mean maybe we dont understand what your saying but it really doesnt make since.

by TS BOBCAT on Feb 26, 2011 11:30 AM EST up reply actions

Exactly.

We are in “rebuilding” mode but still chasing a playoff seed. They are in rebuilding mode, have been for years, and are still nowhere near the playoffs. Henderson is showing he is capable of being a full time starter scoring +20 every game he gets sufficient minutes, but I guess he’s not talented because his name is Gerald Henderson and he plays for us.

A. Nothing, You've Already Told Her Twice.

by Charlotte Bobcat on Feb 26, 2011 11:59 AM EST up reply actions

The Bobcats have no stars

Jax is the only player on the roster who can even be considered above average as an NBA starter. I like DJ and Hendo fine, but they are complimentary players at best, players who are good at certain aspects of basketball but with major flaws, too. Hendo is a good defender, but shooting guards have to be able to shoot to be stars. Per 36 minutes, he averages 13 PPG on 44% shooting and doesn’t have 3 point range. That’s pretty weak for a starter.

The Bobcats are farther behind in terms of rebuilding because they still need to dump most of their team, bottom out and then rebuild. Those other teams already have dumped their bad contracts and have better young players. They may or may not take the next step to become winning teams, but they are definitely ahead of the Bobcats, who were built to squeeze into the playoffs. IMO they should have stuck to that strategy for at least the rest of this season.

by ClipCat on Feb 28, 2011 12:49 PM EST up reply actions

Not true

I do think DJ and Henderson (and Ty Thomas) are the future, but from my perspective the future is ominous. I’ve always liked DJ and Henderson and have been as frustrated as anyone by how Larry Brown failed to properly use them. However, I see nothing that remotely convinces me either of them can be more than an average starter. See my post for a more in depth explanation.

by ClipCat on Feb 28, 2011 5:08 PM EST up reply actions

I predict all 3 of them to atleast avg. 16 or up ppg in the future

We have a good solid foundation no we dont have any superstars but the only team that you mention that does really have a superstar is the Clippers as far as we are concerned we have good picks coming a solid team with decent young players we are looking better then you think going into the future. I mean if what you were saying made since that we are further back then any other team dont you think more people would be agreeing with you

by TS BOBCAT on Feb 28, 2011 5:15 PM EST up reply actions

No, not on this blog

The people who would agree with my view are fans of other teams and basketball writers. For example, John Hollinger listed Charlotte as #30 last year on his NBA Future Power Rankings.

And all those people on other blogs dont even watch us

by TS BOBCAT on Feb 28, 2011 8:41 PM EST up reply actions

Thus they are less biased. Now I respect being a fan, and my perspective is deeply colored by memories of past Bobcats’ teams – Okafor, Crash, Brevin, Primoz and J-Rich. But I also respect the informed opinions of those who aren’t personally invested in the Bobcats.

by ClipCat on Mar 1, 2011 12:07 AM EST up reply actions

Im saying those people dont know what they are talking about

They dont watch our team they dont know anything about where this team stands it has nothing to do with being bias thos people have only watched games that were played against there teams and that isnt enough. Besides people on this site would agree with you if we really didnt have anything to build on we would know we are not all stupid, and you are just the smartest blogger ever. We would know if this team was going down the wrong road

by TS BOBCAT on Mar 1, 2011 7:08 AM EST up reply actions

Exactly.

They don’t know how much better the team has played under Silas than Brown (over .500, would be in 6th place had he started the year coaching us). They don’t know that we’ve been going the best 2 months without our sixth man (Tyrus). They don’t know that Henderson, D.J., and Derrick Brown were robbed of opportunities to grow last year in the playoffs by a coach who only played veterans. They don’t know any of these things. All they do is look at records and make a judgment on a team. And that’s fine. Because I’m damn sure not worried about who got hurt or traded or fired to make a team better/worse than they were before. However, keep in mind the things that other fans and Hollinger are leaving out, and you’ll see where all of our “blind optimism” comes from.

by ClipCat on Mar 1, 2011 10:35 AM EST up reply actions

You don't have to be a Bobcat

fan to judge the team, but you have to at least see a team play and understand each team’s individual circumstances to have a real judgment on them. Hollinger’s future rankings always has us last for the same damn reasons. No cap room, no draft picks, no youngsters, aging veterans. Well damn, now we have 2 first rounders next year alone, we’ll see significant cap room within another year, we have three very good youngsters (you don’t have to call them stars, but acknowledge their skill), and other than Jack and Diaw who are still producing, we have no aging veterans. But I’m sure he’ll find a reason to say we are last in the “future rankings” again because he always does. The other day he graded all the trades at the deadline, and didn’t give us a good score because we didn’t trade Crash at the deadline last year while we were battling for our first ever playoff berth. Hollinger is a damn fool and a lot of that crap @ ESPN may as well have originated from ROF because it’s all just as useless.

John Hollinger is also

the same idiot that said we should’ve traded Crash LAST YEAR in the middle of our first playoff run ever. Charlotte fans are not the only one who thinks Hollinger is full of it. Check his posts. 99% of the comments left are in total disagreement with him. Hollinger’s mindset says that “if you are not on tv every night or competing for a title, you’re worthless”. He even admits himself he rarely is able to watch the Bobcats play.

by Charlotte Bobcat on Mar 1, 2011 7:59 AM EST up reply actions

Hollinger was just the easiest example of a nationally known writer who took the time to assess the Bobcats’ future.

Here’s a question. If you agree that trading Crash last season would have been the completely wrong move, then why is it ok to trade Crash this season while the team is once again trying to make the playoffs? Was the goal to make the playoffs once and then start over?

by ClipCat on Mar 1, 2011 10:40 AM EST up reply actions

It's easy to start talking like that a full year later,

that’s because you, nor Hollinger, are taking into account the emotional effect that making the playoffs for the first time had on the team and the city. All of the sponsors it brought to the team, all of the new fans. Sure, we maybe could have got more value trading Gerald Wallace at the deadline last year, but the Cavaliers would have got a hell of a lot more value trading LeBron in the middle of his last year in Cleveland as well. A move no one would have realistically justified until months later when he really did leave. Hollinger always talks about what teams should have done, but never talks about what they should do. Because the man doesn’t know basketball. He knows stats and numbers and all that other shit, but not basketball.

by ClipCat on Mar 1, 2011 12:44 PM EST up reply actions

I feel as though I answered your question

But to put into better words, yes, the goal was to at least sniff the playoffs once before breaking down and starting over. Now at least the city of charlotte knows its not impossible to become a playoff team now. Besides, his stock hasn’t taken that much of a hit over the past year. Two 1st round picks, young prospect and a serviceable big man on an expiring contracts is a very good package for a 1 time all star

Q. What Do You Tell A Girl With Two Black Eyes?
A. Nothing, You've Already Told Her Twice.

by Charlotte Bobcat on Mar 1, 2011 3:11 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

We still have roughly the same chance to make the playoffs this year

If we traded Wallace last year, we didn’t have the parts to make up for his loss.

Last year we had more potential. A low playoff seed was the starting point. This year the potential is different. The 7th or 8th seed is our hope, but there is no way were are going to upset Miami or Boston. Last year we beat Cleveland 3 out of 4 times.

by Ft.Mill Bobcat on Mar 1, 2011 8:58 PM EST up reply actions

And having "stars" like Blake Griffin, Tyreke Evans, and Kevin Love

makes those other teams better? Again, hype isn’t the same thing compared to actual wins. Don’t point to any stats to tell me how worthless Hendo or D.J. are because we all know the circumstances they were dealing with over the first quarter of this year and the full season last year. We really only lost Crash in the deal, but you’re making it seem as though we traded the whole team away. You don’t think Ty Lawson has major flaws? Or what about Derek Fisher? One of them is looked at as the future of their team (despite their lack of height) and the other is a 5 time NBA champion.

Well that would be an extremely

dumb move trading the Bobcats for any of those players. You’re going off of hype alone which doesn’t win games in the NBA. The only Bobcats that have troublesome contracts are Jackson, Diaw, Carrol and Diop. Everyone else is either coming off the books next year or at a reasonable salary.

by TS BOBCAT on Feb 26, 2011 12:06 PM EST up reply actions

He has an option.

He’ll make 9 million if he opts in though, and since he’s not expected to get anywhere near that amount on the open market, it’s pretty safe to say he’ll stay. It works out well for us either way. Either he opts out an we have 9 extra million on the cap, or he opts in and becomes very nice trade bait. A big man on an expiring 9 million deal who can shoot the outside shot, rebound, play d, and pass the ball. I kinda hopes that he does opt in so we can squeeze something extra out of him.

If NO gets in the lotter and wins a top 14 pick, we get their 2012 pick.

It is protected.

I win as if im used to it, and i loose as if i like it for a change.

by Noahzack on Feb 25, 2011 11:39 PM EST up reply actions

The Portland pick is also protected

Maybe the Bobcats will find some luck in the lottery, but it won’t be with the picks they got from the Wallace giveaway.

by ClipCat on Feb 26, 2011 11:18 AM EST up reply actions

This is kinda off topic

But is anyone whatching portland right now on ESPN? Wallace is on the bench, showing no emotion. Looks like he dont even want to be there, They had a huge three point play, the whole bench stood up clapping hands, he sat there, did nothing. Man, I feel bad for him.

I win as if im used to it, and i loose as if i like it for a change.

Sad, he probably wants to play, but our spare parts didn't arrive in time.

Maybe Portland will give up on him at the end of the season and trade him back to us for a 2nd round pick.

Is there going to be a press conference for the new guys showing the new jerseys and everything?

I mean it seems like we never do that we didnt have a big press conference when Stephen came or Tyrus

by TS BOBCAT on Feb 25, 2011 11:28 PM EST up reply actions

I doubt it, Not for Cunningham, And White.

I was thinking the same. If he comes out and just slumps for the rest of the season, Id happily give them there 2013 First round pick back for him.

I win as if im used to it, and i loose as if i like it for a change.

by Noahzack on Feb 25, 2011 11:32 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah but how come we never do?

Does it have to do with market size or something?

by TS BOBCAT on Feb 25, 2011 11:48 PM EST up reply actions

Normally you only do that for "Big Name"

Players, Bobcats never really traded for a “Big Name”, T-Time wasn’t big when we traded for him, and neither was jack. I mean I agree we should do it, it pumps them up.

I win as if im used to it, and i loose as if i like it for a change.

by Noahzack on Feb 25, 2011 11:59 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah true

But i wonder why N.O. did it for Trevor Ariza.

by TS BOBCAT on Feb 26, 2011 12:46 AM EST up reply actions

With that ^^ It was more selling Ariza to the fans of N.O I think (Make him look better then he is/was). Plus it was in the offseason, I think if we made these trades in the offseason then we would do somthing similar to that, but we always make trades Dec-Feb.

Okay I'm gonna try this here posting thing.

SOme of you may know they recently changed my meds and they have me severely messed up. I’m gonna do my best and write in MSWord and paste so I can correct most of the typos I’ve been making since the change.

Clipcat – When I first arrived at RoF MIchael Procton and I toussled often. Over the course of last season, when most of his predictions (Cats won’t win 35 games… Cats couldn’t possibly win 40…Cats won’t be a .500 team…ad nauseum) turned out wrong, he was man enough to chill out. He never became a blind optimist, but he mellowed his criticisms.

When you first showed up I thought you were MIchael under a new nickname. My question for you is this:

If the Bobcats improve between the draft/off season trades/free agent market and the start of next season will you be printing (posting) a retraction in which you take back some of your criticism regarding Jordan? Will you at least acknowledge that he has a plan? I’ll make a deal with you right now – if the Cats “bottom out” and are worse next season I promise I’ll own up to it and admit you were right. If both of our first round picks are head-scratchers, I’ll own that you were right there as well. But if the assertions and conclusions you are drawing turn out to be incorrect, you admit it just as openly.

My take on the trade – We’ve been shopping Diaw for over a seaosn and a half now and the only teams that have wanted him offered hot garbage in return. We’ve been shopping Jack since he turned up as public enemy #1 on the video the league sent out regarding the “respect the game” rules. The reason Gerald Wallace is no longer a member of the Charlotte BObcats is becuase he was the one player for which we could get real value – and we got a fair price out of the deal. IN addition to the new players (one a cagey verteran that can teach a rookie big a few things and at least one young player with upside as a bench reserve) we got a pair of first rounders and “cash considerations.” That last item is something everyone overlooks, but regardless of the undisclosed amount, the deal didn’t suck. I guarantee you if Jackson or Diaw could have gotten us similar positioning for the future, Crash would still be here.
Yeah, we’ll need some lucky breaks in an unusually shallow draft to instantly break out, but at least we have a starting point as some of the other bad paper (Diop and Diaw) falls off the books.

There is no way I’m goint to join in a hatefest on Jordan however. His overall grade in management with the Cats from me would be a C+, but his grade as owner thuse far is a solid B+. It will quickly jump to an A if our off season goes well.

Dang, I’m running out of gas here and I hat a lot more I wanted to say. Another time then. I’m paatsing this in before this frikkin’g morphine and methadone coctail makes me pass out again. I hate this crap. The 1-2 punch it packs is a horrible wallop.

P.S. - Is it an interim fling or a permanent bromance?

Hang in there man!

I’m sorry to read you’re struggling through tough times and pain most of us hopefully never will comprehend. Hope you can get through the worst of it soon and enjoy better times ahead.

As for the Wallace trade, I completely agree with you that Wallace was the only big contract the Bobcats could trade to significantly save money. I’ve written as much elsewhere, too. This deal is the latest in a long string of attempted quick fix trades. Used to the trades were misguided attempts to bring in talent, but that only led to cost cutting deals like this. This is the logical chain of events that’s been playing out since Okafor was dealt.

I was as enthusiastic of a fan as anyone when the Bobcats first came to Charlotte. Those early years the Bobcats truly played as a team and nearly always outhustled their opponent even though they didn’t often win. The team had a clear plan, and Bernie Bickerstaff made sure they followed it – work hard; teamwork; develop young talent; build from within.

That vanished as MJ arrived on the scene, and Bernie was pushed out the back door. The contrast between the approaches of MJ and Bickerstaff was night and day. The solid, blue collar development plan gave way to quick fix trades, and any sense of team loyalty vanished into thin air in the chaos that was the Sam Vincent experience.

Now if Michael Jordan and the FO somehow pulls off his plan and builds the Bobcats as he promised in his letter, then I’ll be back to give him credit. still, for me the Bobcats have sold the soul of the team for one quick trip to the playoffs. Emeka Okafor, Gerald Wallace, and Bernie Bickerstaff were the Charlotte Bobcats, and the way they’ve each been unceremoniously dumped has obviously left me seriously disillusioned with the franchise.

As for me and Procton, I joined this blog 8 months before you. Many of my first posts were debates with MP. I appreciated his intelligence and objectivity and appreciated that he was willing to provide a perspective the average fan didn’t really understand. He lacked diplomacy and irritated those he disagreed with more than necessary, but that could be said of many of the people who criticized him, too.

Well, Bickerstaff's team, no matter how hard they hustled, how much

of a plan they had in place or any of that never even came close to sniffing the playoffs. Much less a championship team. So why are we talking about a plan vanishing when all that plan ever did was get us 1 more extra win than the year before?

Bickerstaff coached 3 seasons. He took the team from the expansion draft and an 18 win first season to 26 wins in season #2 to 33 wins in season #3. Then MJ arrived on the scene to replace him with Sam Vincent. I have no doubt that if Bickerstaff and his philosophy had remained, the Bobcats would have been competing for the playoffs in season #4.

by ClipCat on Mar 1, 2011 10:51 AM EST up reply actions

To clarify Jordan was in Charlotte for Bickerstaff’s 3rd season, and that was a transition year from Bickerstaff to Jordan. After that season, MJ made the best trade in Bobcats team history trading the rights to Brandon Wright for Jason Richardson. No significant players from Bickerstaff’s last season were lost, and the addition of J-Rich should have resulted in the team taking the next step to making the playoffs (Atlanta finished #8 that year with 37 wins). Unfortunately, Sam Vincent was no Bernie Bickerstaff.

I have no doubts we could have played

better and continued our building of success had Bernie been able to stick around. All of that has a ceiling though, and I think we were getting very close to it.

We were going nowhere with that team.

Just because we are an expansion team doesn’t mean we should take 20 years to make the playoffs. Trying to make Okafor the foundation of your team like he is Tim Duncan isn’t going to get you in the playoffs.

As for Procton,

I miss his pessimism (until I have to argue with him again). I wonder how he feels about these moves.

You don't need Procton for pessimism anymore

A new group of Procton wannabees is now flourishing on RoF.

A Procton vs. the other pessimists debate would be interesting

Lol. That would be quite interesting.
