Gerald Wallace, Nazr Mohammed Traded
It is being reported that Gerald Wallace has been traded to the Trail Blazers for Joel Przybilla and two first round picks (and maybe Dante Cunningham).
Also, the Bobcats have dealt Nazr Mohammed to the Thunder for D.J. White and Morris Peterson.
I'm not sure how to react yet, so I'm going to wait until the dust settles and to see what these first round picks are.
My initial reaction is that I'm really sad to see Gerald go, but two first round picks is a fantastic parting gift that couldn't slip through our hands.

OMG
I saw 3pm pass and nothing transpired, so I thought nothing would happen. Props to MJ for playing hardball and forcing Portland to give up 2 first round picks instead of one. For the future, I think this is a very positive move, and will eventually benefit us, now that we’ll have 4 picks in the first round in the next two years or so. If you compare the Deron Williams trade, we actually got as many 1st rounders as was traded in that trade, so that’s pretty darn good value! Sad to see Crash go though…
As for Nazr, I’ll miss him also. He was a great bench player and veteran of the team, but Pryz will be able to fill that void adequately. Don’t know anything about DJ White or Peterson, however I’m confident we’ll be fine with Jax at the 3 and Hendo at the 2 now. Just in shock that this actually went down though!
We weren't a playoff threat with or without Wallace
Its time to rebuild. We already have some solid young players. Now we get to develop Hendo as a starter, and add a bunch of 1st round potential.
We just need to nail one of these draft picks and we’ll be sitting pretty for the forseeable future.

As I said in the other thread
Pryzbilla alone doesn’t make the deal work, and neither does adding Cunningham to the deal. I’m not saying anyone of note is coming along, but there is at least one other player included in the deal.

Please at least be Rudy
I mean he said that he would leave in the off season and never did maybe he is just bluffing? So this deal isnt done yet?
Why Rudy?

What's the details of the trade?
I’ve read Przybilla and a 2nd round pick, then I’ve read Przybilla and two 1st round picks…plus additional players? I know the additional players haven’t been revealed yet, but those picks are a very important factor as to if we got screwed or not…I am VERY sad to see Wallace go though…I wish him the very best!

UPDATE No. 3: Looks like Wallace did indeed get traded, despite the below report from Bonnell.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, Wallace was traded in exchange for Przybilla and two future first-round picks.
With Przybilla out in the frontcourt and Batum starting at the 3 for Portland, Wallace could get burn as a power forward for the Blazers.

Hi MMA!
Nice to see you over here. This is my first time venturing onto the Bobcats blog from the Panthers blog.
Anyway, I had to see if the Wallace trade reports were true. I’m really very upset about it. Maybe it was needed for betterment in the future…I don’t know. But for right now, it’s hard to see the last original Bobcats player go…and the one I believe was the best all-around player on the team. =(
To make the sting even worse – I’m going to my first Bobcats game tomorrow. I missed out on seeing him live.
So many CSR people!
I guess it does make sense – two Charlotte teams. But still…nice to see familiar names. =)
Yeah, I only recently started following the team, but Wallace was far and away my favorite. And just knowing he was the last original one makes me sad. Like I’ll probably cry the day John Kasay retires from the Panthers.
So…awesome. Two Charlotte pro teams rebuilding. =/ Hopefully both make the best of the rebuilding sooner rather than later!
Jamie!

The Blazers own the Hornets first round pick this year. (traded straight up for Bayless)
Could be a nice asset since the Hornets are slipping (lost 7 of their last 10) and have a decent chance of not making the playoffs. I think the pick is top 6 protected.
Cunningham is actually a nice player and has reportedly been asked about by a bunch of different teams. He’s about the same size as Wallace (6’8, 227) but has spent much of the year playing CENTER next to Aldridge. He can guard just about anything on the floor and hits a remarkably consistent jumper from the elbow or the baseline. His shooting form indicates that he should be able to hit three’s and he’s talked about working on that, but I can’t remember ever seeing him attempts one. Maybe that’s because he’s too busy down low. He can also dunk when he gets the chance. He’s also had some pretty amazing chase down blocks this year.

if it's 2 1st round picks.
Then, I’m mad, but it’s a good move. If it’s anything other than that. I’m pissed, and it’s a bad move. Naz to OKC for Mo Pete and Dj White is ok. Chances they resign him after this season are slim, and his contract is up. We get depth at the 2, and a little cap relief. I’m calming down from all this. I still think we have a shot at the playoffs. This obviously hinges on the performance of our bigs, the return of Tyrus, and the play of Gerald Henderson.

Great job MJ
Two first round picks, unloaded salary, & added young players. I will miss Crash, but realistically, he didn’t have much left in the tank to justify $21 million over the next two years. Hopefully, they will take advantage of these draft picks and extra salary. I think MJ is doing a great job with this team. He’s not holding on to players for sentimental value, he’s being aggressive and working well to building a young, solid team.

he's not adam morrison
because he can play D and is athletic
Hes a shooter. his defense is spotty at best and he isn’t guarding nowhere near the level he will be in the NBA. I like Jimmer but he is a project at the next level. Look how long it took Reddick to translate to the NBA. Reddick > Jimmer in college
"Hard Work Beats Talent When Talent Fails To Work Hard" - Kevin Durant
ur on crack
if you think college reddick is better than college jimmer
you ever watched the kid play? JJ had the benefit of being the first, second and third options at any given time for that team… jimmer is byu’s ONLY option, and despite constant double teams he finds ways to score
that said
i don’t want him either, i was just saying, he’s no ammo or for that matter, reddick
he’s much more athletic than either of them
Im a duke homer and i dont rush to the tv to watch Jimmer. He seems like a flash in the pan to me. I don’t remember hearing much about him prior to this year. The guys he has to guard at the next level is going to be a tough test.
"Hard Work Beats Talent When Talent Fails To Work Hard" - Kevin Durant
he's by no means a superior defender
but better than ammo by a long shot and better than reddick when he first came into the nba
I live in Utah and am subjected to Jimmer all day every day
He’s no joke. I was at their game against SDSU. Jimmer > Reddick > Ammo. That being said, we need more upside and not hot shooters off the bench.

Hopelessly scouring the internet for a free copy of Screamin' Jay Hawkins' "Brujo." and "Hurricane Coming" by CCS.
I think the one thing I'm most excited about:
For the first time in (seemingly) years… we have assets to trade, picks to trade.
When you think about one of the 1sts we got today recouping for the 2012 first for Tyrus Thomas you can really look at it like trading Wallace for cap room, Cunningham, a 1st rounder and Tyrus Thomas… much easier to swallow that way.
Crash was a great player, and a great person to represent the Queen City… but Charlotte were in an unenviable position- staying put while the rest of the East flourished around them, without the draft picks or assets to make any significant trades. We have the picks now, we have the space now. Wallace was never a guy to build a team around, because if he was then we would have seen more success by now. He’s a great second option for someone, and we can work through the draft or free agency to keep what looks to be the future core (Augustin, Henderson, Thomas- remember they are the three young players the Cats have been marketing all year) and add to it.
It stings now… but when this is said and done I think you’ll see a much stronger, better rounded roster for it.

If Hendo can hit his jump shot consistently, then he could be better than Wallace offensively
And he’s a pesky defender as well. I don’t think we’ll have any drop off in our starting lineup. It’s just our rotation that might struggle… Hendo was a big factor in that way.

Gerald Wallace is the way, the truth, and the light
Question
Because I literally just started watching the Bobcats in January, and I know almost nothing about basketball other than what I learned playing in 4th grade (which was waaaaaay simplified, obviously) and what I’ve caught on to so far in the past 1 1/2 months.
Okay, finally made it to the question. Can Hendo really match Gerald defensively? Just from what I’ve seen, Gerald Wallace was a pretty nasty blocker. Is there anyone else on the team that comes close to being able to make those kinds (and that quantity) of blocks? Or will any of the players being traded to the Bobcats be able to match that?
Thomas has us covered on Sportscenter Top 10 blocks.
Hendo is tenacious on defense. I think he’s actually quicker to react to a ball handler’s first move than Wallace is; Hendo’s footwork is a tad bit better.

I'm not sure how I feel about this at all.
Basically we traded Wallace for 2 picks and cap space, essentially meaning MJ has shut the season down, which is exactly the opposite of what he promised us STH at the beginning of the season. His words were that he wouldn’t (and we shouldn’t) accept anything less than the playoffs.
In fact, I’m not happy, because next year’s draft isn’t going to be anything special regardless of having 3 first round picks, and we’re definately not making the playoffs this season. I don’t understand why we didn’t trade Jack and Diaw as well if the goal is to rebuild.
Screw you Michael Jordan for once again lying to your fanbase.
am probably not going to
i get until august though, so maybe we’ll have made an offseason trade by then
meh whatever
ill just go back to my hurricanes, at least they’ll spend my money wisely
i bought them 2 for 1 during the playoffs (+ both playoff game ticks)
i cant imagine them having a huge playoff sale this season since they wont make it there
Well I will likely look into some tix depending on my schedule
Definitely will be getting a package since I can’t ask for every home game off
Take a look at the front rows of the upper deck
Ridiculously cheap for NBA – $17 & $20. If you buy the full season with these seats it isn’t too much more than these packages being offered. You can sell your extra tickets or split the games with a friend.

he’s been making a living at the line. He gets a few calls a game too by flailing his arms.

Gee, sir, I understand you’ve been getting to the line for free points while also causing the opponent to foul, but I would much rather you hit a long contested jumpshot.

What?

I went and looked MoPete up and he has decent numbers why do some people want a buyout
Does he have a big contract?
I would prefer

Mo could take Hendo’s spot off the bench
"Hard Work Beats Talent When Talent Fails To Work Hard" - Kevin Durant
I say get rid of McGuire he does nothing for this team
But this is a decent bench in my opinion this team could make the playoffs especially if Hendo becomes a beast. Guys we may have a all star in the making with him. Along with D.J. and Tyrus./

Now we need to find a SF for the future
is there anyone in the league thats young, talented and can be had this off-season for Diaw’s expiring and picks or something else? Otherwise we would have to find that player in the draft.
maybe boris will see the light
and turn down playing in cha next season
still not 100% whether
one of them is 2011 or 2013
I am happy for both trades.

Damn, im gonna miss gerald.
But 2 first round picks, a young prospect, and a center on an expiring contract are a decent return. Id say we got the better of the deal, depending on what we end up doing with the picks. Jordan has a plan, and I’m down with it. The blazers are now my new number 2 team though.

Portland traded pieces they didn’t really need that Charlotte valued more, and in return the Blazers got a very good player to help with a playoff push.

Oh hell no!
Adam Morrison with less skills
your crazy. Singler is one tough SOB who can play inside or outside and is a solid defender
"Hard Work Beats Talent When Talent Fails To Work Hard" - Kevin Durant
Come on I know you're a Duke fan but you can't be serious
Harrison Barnes (an NBA body) shut him down
That was one game. Singler has been struggling past few games. He just broke out last night with 28. He is a better player then he showed in the UNC vs Duke game
"Hard Work Beats Talent When Talent Fails To Work Hard" - Kevin Durant
His game doesn't translate to the league.
Adam Morrison was a much better player with a similar style game. Singler’s ceiling is 6th man
i said solid role player to begin with. I didnt say draft him
"Hard Work Beats Talent When Talent Fails To Work Hard" - Kevin Durant
I didn't see that. I just saw "one tough SOB"
He’s def not a banger…
He is a tough sob. he is constantly jumping for loose balls in the crowd or in the pile. he stays getting sticked up. Dude gives it his all similar to Hansbourgh
"Hard Work Beats Talent When Talent Fails To Work Hard" - Kevin Durant
We watch different games
just because his face is red…
it happens to white folks when they do anything active
Singler has showed his toughness on more then one occasion you don’t agree with it that is fine. He put the team on his back last year leading them to a championship. He had a big game and defended Butler’s best player in the Final.
"Hard Work Beats Talent When Talent Fails To Work Hard" - Kevin Durant
Did you really commend him for defending Butler's best player?
Who gets no burn in the league…
he went top 10 and was hailed hands down better then Singler even though he got shut down. i do commend him for it. Hell he was drawing Bird comparisons. Which is dumb
"Hard Work Beats Talent When Talent Fails To Work Hard" - Kevin Durant
I'm not taking away from Larry Bird
but the league has changed. He wouldn’t be that great in today’s league. He was however a helluva player back then.
I'll let it rest...
if he’s there in the 2nd round. Why not… we at least bring in some Duke fans.
Lol.

"Hard Work Beats Talent When Talent Fails To Work Hard" - Kevin Durant
I know i sound dumb but what does that mean if it is protected and what do you mean top 8?
I dont know much about how the NBA draft works or any other one i just know all about the NFL draft
If they are selecting inside the Top 8 they keep the pick
We get it the next year unless they pick top 7
Well im still a little confused
So if they get a top 8 then they get it and then we get theres next year
if they have the 8th pick or up they get it.
"Hard Work Beats Talent When Talent Fails To Work Hard" - Kevin Durant
If one of the three lottery balls selected is for N.O.
We don’t get the pick this year. We have to wait until next year. Or if N.O. falls apart and is the 8th worst team in the NBA this year, we have to wait until next year for the pick.

I thought it was hilarious that he called us “one of the Eastern Conference’s better bad teams” with Wallace on board, but that we are now terrible without him even though our new roster hasn’t played a single game yet.

I have seen EVERY SINGLE GAME he has played in. IF he gets more aggressive will be a good SF… he will have great size and a good hi/low game that translates to the NBA.

"Hard Work Beats Talent When Talent Fails To Work Hard" - Kevin Durant
WRONG
Jay Williams was a beast, Boozer was better than I ever thought he would be in the NBA, Battier too, Grant Hill was an absolute monster in college, Kyrie Irving likely will be, Loul Deng is a solid player.
This coming from a UNC fan. I will not however co-sign on any Singler or Nolan Smith being more than 6th men in the league.
Next thing you’ll tell me is Mason Plumblee is going to make it in the NBA…
Not everybody makes it. Carolina has had its fair share of busts lately as well. Some guys translate some don’t. And if Josh McRoberts is still in the league then Mason can make it.

oh yeah. I just heard Perkins moving to OKC
FINALLY. They now have a legitimate big man. Charles Barkley would love this.

I know the Hornets pick is Top 8 protected this year...
likely not an issue. Not sure about Portland’s
We only receive their pick if it lands at 9th or lower.
So I want them to miss the playoffs, but only by a few spots.
Hopelessly scouring the internet for a free copy of Screamin' Jay Hawkins' "Brujo." and "Hurricane Coming" by CCS.

So with what went down today...
We will most likely be selecting in the lottery this year with our 1st pick. Knowing that we want a SF to take over for Jax eventually, which one of these do you like?
The draft grades currently have these SF ranked as lottery picks:
4. Derrick Williams (Arizona)
6. Terrence Jones (Kentucky)
7. Harrison Barnes (UNC)
9. Jordan Hamilton (Texas)
12. Kawhi Leonard (SDSU)
great set of players right there and I really think that all of them will do well at the next level...
and I think either of the Morris twins from Kansas may be underrated and belongs up there as well
And as a Bobcats fan I gotta say....
I’m pretty happy with the trade today. MJ and the FO did a good job looking ahead at the future of this franchise and I hope that they finally got this one right! Now if we can just have a solid draft everyone can put the “MJ and leading an organization” BS to bed
Jax should have been traded also if MJ wants rebuilding
Bobcats looks like rebuilding through draft picks but they should also include Jax in this trade. Hopefully Paul Silas have a good choice in drafting players because I don’t trust MJ in drafting players. I think we are in the right direction of building more than a playoff team.
I think Jax was kept because MJ still believes we will make playoffs...
The man can put up points, and will do so from the SF position

also possibly MJ wanted too much for Jax
It was reported that he wanted first round picks for either Wallce or Jax. Out of those 2 people are going to try and get Wallace first (great character guy, no history) over Jax with his perceived character flaws and history.
I think other teams would have taken Jax off our hand if we had a fire sale, but when we wanted at least parity in the trade and get value back I’m sure other teams would have backed away.
We were probably offered a single first round pick from LA or Dallas for JAX
A low first round pick and mediocre players to make the salaried match is not enough.
