Bobcats smoke Lakers, 109-89

The Bobcats still have the Lakers' number. Charlotte continued the most surprising run of dominance one team has over another by defeating Los Angeles 109-89 tonight.

Gerald Wallace led the way for the home team, scoring 20 points on 16 attempts and pulling down 11 rebounds, both team highs. Gerald Henderson contributed 18 points on 9 attempts, Boris Diaw had 16 in 9 attempts, and Nazr Mohammed also scored 16 points, though on 11 attempts.

Remember how I asked in the preview what we might be able to determine about individual players from tonight's game? What say you? Did Henderson impress? Are we back to trusting Crash to be his All Star self game in and game out?

Great game and a great win

I was slightly nervous at the beginning of the game, as the Lakers seemed like they meant business early on, but the Bobcats stuck with it and prevailed in the end. Honestly, I feel that most everyone contributed in some form or fashion. DJ, for example, might not have been a scoring machine, but he was still able to distribute the ball well. Crash was his good self. Boris stepped up. Nazr played well. Kwame chipped in, and Jax showed some surprisingly good ball handling. Livingston continued to impress. Najera did his thing.

And then there’s Henderson. Yeah, he had a good game too. How about that Hendo-Kobe match up, hm? Kobe was pissed there near the end of the game.

Nice to see Collins, D Brown, and Carroll play a bit too during the final minutes of the game.

I haven’t glanced at the box score typing the above; it’s all based on my own initial judgment from watching the game. The stats may affect some of what I’ve said, but that’s fine by me.

Good rotations by Silas, as the Bobcats improve their impressive winning record against the Lakers.

Hendo! Nice job rotating players. All we got to do now is play at this level when we play teams who we should beat. No reason we can beat the Celtics and Lakers of the world in our building but not the Nets

YES!

great win by the Cats—way to take advantage of a tired, slow team and do what your’e supposed to do.

even though we lost the tiebreakers to the Pacers and 76ers, if we continue to win the games we NEED to win, we shouldnt have trouble getting in the playoffs.

this was a great momentum and confidence building game, and i wish my streaming sites didnt get shut down…

i miss posting with you guys.

also, Andrew (Lali), if you’re reading this, good job on that ticket selling thing!

Beating one of the league's best by 20, is NEVER what you're supposed to do

Granted being slow, tired and a potentially ill Kobe definitely helped. But I heard a stat that they are something like 9-1 this season on back to backs. So beating them by 20 is a great accomplishment, despite the circumstances.

THE ZEN MASTER VS. JERRY SLOAN

I see two men who have no fire left and don’t really care. Anyone agree ?

Phil never really looks like he cares.

He was heated after the game though.

Nice bounce back games by Nazr and DJ

If Kobe wasn’t sick before the game, he certainly had to be feeling under the weather after dealing with Hendo for most of the evening. #15 is simply a beast on defense, and his offense gets better all the time.

Wallace is back. ’Nuff said.

I’m already looking forward to this momentum carrying over to Chicago. It usually does
D.J. good to see Rose on the floor with him.

Kobe definitely looked worn out

Many of his shots and free throws were short, a clear sign of fatigue. If he indeed had a fever earlier, then I have no clue how he was able to just run the floor.

Destroyed the Lakers - very impressive

Haven’t we beat them 7 times in 11 tries now.

lol, Phil Jackson had a 10 second 'press conference'

Kobe didn’t even bother.

Gasol, Odom, and a few others did address the media though.

No doubt, we might not be able to even win are way back into the 8th spot

Philly and Indiana are quickly approaching .500, and we likely have the tougher schedule from here out. As excited as I am about this win… I’m doubtful we’ll make the playoffs.

I don't expect Indiana's "better" play of late to keep up for much longer.

I hope Silas stays next year

I like his ‘Stay with the hot rotation’ method.

But.

What happened with Boris “NOT” starting because he overslept the walkthrough. He had his fat a$$ out there at the openning tip!

F it.

Boris got the job done last night.

yeah but

now we’ll have three consecutive games of mediocrity

tbh, if a player doesn’t “bring it” against the defending champions, they don’t deserve to be playing

I wish I could be his personal motivator.

I’d berate him so much he wouldn’t have a choice but to go out and perform.

Front Page on ESPN!!!

AWESOME win last night!! For once, I was never worried about scoring. When we got the ball I had an unfamiliar and pleasing self confidence that every possession would score points. I usually feel exactly the opposite, in that we are lucky to score on any given possession. It was very refreshing to watch the Bobcats last night, and their offensive dominance. Now, I just hope that Diaw, DJ, Mohammad and others can keep it up for a while to get us into the playoffs. Last night the bobcats were a playoff contending team…

Does anybody know why NBA.com's videos never work in the morning?

It’s like they’re on a timer to only work in the evening. But it doesn’t have any explanation anywhere as to why.

Speaking of Indiana, they are 1 1/2 games in front of us and 8-2 in their last 10 and have

been feasting off of a straight up cupcake schedule.

Wins:
Milwaukee, Minnesota, Charlotte (controversial ending), New Jersey (twice), Portland, Cleveland, Toronto

Losses:
Miami, Chicago
and before that, Orlando, Portland, Denver, Golden State, Clippers, Bulls.

Their schedule is a little cupcakey over the next few weeks, but they’re not about to run away with the final seed. Philly isn’t either.

I'm more concerned with Philly

they’ve been getting good wins against elite teams so far. And if Milwaukee starts on a run again for the playoffs just like last season, then things will get ugly in the bottom East.

by mikael matthews on Feb 15, 2011 10:17 AM EST up reply actions

Philly is definitely a bigger concern.

They’ve played with the most consistency. All we need is a few more weeks of the bad Bucks and they’ll eliminate themselves from the race. But you’re right, if they get going like last year, it’s going to be tough.

so i was at the game

and it was AWESOME

The only disappointing thing was how quiet it was through the third until Wallace hit that shot. Typically for Laker games there are more LA fans (read: Kobe Bryant fans) than Bobcats fans, which explains the silence for much of the time, but it was almost like the Bobcats fans were reluctant to start cheering, expecting a comeback from LA.

But once Wallace hit that shot… oh man, it didn’t get quiet the entire time. Many people stood up the entire fourth quarter and mocked the Kobe jerseys as they sullenly left.

And when Kobe shot TWO airballs? Oh it was hilarious.

This is the effort I wanna see from the Bobcats on a nightly basis. I would rather Jax be taking shots than Nazr, but, hell, if they’re going in, why complain, right? Pau Gasol looked completely and utterly indifferent out there. It’s like he and Boris did the Freaky Friday mind-swap thing for a night.

I’ve been a fan of Steve Blake since he left Maryland as a solid, role playing PG who doesn’t make a lot of mistakes. But man, he looked as old as Fisher last night. Everyone on the Lakers looked visibly tired, but Steve Blake looked amateurish even beyond that. It was sad.

by adamcawa on Feb 15, 2011 10:15 AM EST reply actions

because he's

a better rebounder and 3pt shooter than both of them (or at least he was) and that’s the type of PG required for Phil’s triangle offense

by adamcawa on Feb 15, 2011 10:40 AM EST up reply actions

Because he was cheaper

Hinrich wasn’t a free agent either. Washington got him because they could absorb his contract leaving Chicago cap space to chase the free agents. LA could not do this.

i also find it

a bit ironic that you named three white pg’s

by adamcawa on Feb 16, 2011 1:33 PM EST up reply actions

I was a huge fan of the Blake/Juan Dixon combo.

And I’m a Tar Heel fan.
