Chris Paul trade could still positively affect Bobcats
Most recent sources have Paul most likely landing up in Golden State or LA (Clippers), not New York or Lakers. Although, technically, Paul could leave anywhere he's traded after the season anyway, sources indicate he'd be willing to sign long term deals with the Clips (to play alongside Griffin) or to the Warriors if they signed Chandler.
Boston is also still a key player, although personally I'd rather have Rondo to compete against Deron Williams night in and night out. The thing is, none of the potential teams can outright trade for Chris Paul without going over the cap. New Orleans is adamant about not taking on any bad contracts, and why should they? These teams are going to have to find a third partner with cap space, or they're going to have to amnesty someone (I'm looking at you Andres Beidrins) that they perhaps wouldn't have considered before.
How do the Bobcats fit into this? Well, frankly, we have a team with cap space and a fairly valuable expiring in Boris Diaw (who, probably knowing he'll be traded this season, has been working "hard" in France, presumably to get himself an extension). There could be some very feasible and tantalizing deals for the Bobcats. For example: This Trade
Throw in a draft pick each to NO and GS from Charlotte and this is a trade that works for all parties. Although NO has expressed interest in gaining Curry over Ellis, I imagine adding Kemba Walker would sway their opinion. If you assume Chandler's gonna get the 15 million he wants, then the Warriors have to clear up even more space (they still need 5 roster slots filled after signing their rookies.) I don't see Beidrins getting 9 million again, but for the sake of argument, let's say he does. That puts the Warriors at 60 million with those 5 slots still left. That means David Lee has to go, but they need compensation. The Warriors are a totally different team with a core of Chandler, Paul, Tyrus and two pretty good rookies. NO gets Thompson who they've coveted and another PG with franchise potential in Walker and a buttload of cap space, especially after Boris expires.
Now this is just one example of one team who is interested in Paul. The Clippers could work too, but they have shown in the past little to no regard for the luxury tax, so they may not even need a third party. Obviously, there are plenty of other teams aside from the Bobcats that could work well as a third team as well. That's the point though, this one trade of Chris Paul could have huge ripples across the NBA.

So we give up young talent an expiring contract AND two draft picks to get one big contract and,
The player that NO absolutely said they have to have from that team to even consider trading from him.
SMH. I don’t think people understand what the front office is trying to do.
sorry i posted the wrong link

THIS is the trade I meant to post… NO is adamant about getting Klay Thompson
The Bobcats are looking to go young and rebuild… guess what, Curry is young and worth building around, Lee is also only 28 and only 6 seasons into the NBA.
Not to mention, we STILL end up with cap space in my trade, while filling a necessary void (FC). Why would we need Kemba if we have Curry?
Bringing Curry in would put his Dad out of a job!
No way he could be a court-side analyst with his Boy on the court.
Yes he could...
Dell’s actually really good about that.

Let's see what Kemba can do before we trade him...
No one predicted CP3 would have the career he has before he was drafted…why can’t Kemba do the same?
+1

certainly
I would love to keep Kemba around, but if we can trade him for a proven young player like Curry, we’d be foolish not to. I mean, I doubt this trade is anywhere close to happening, the point was merely to show the far reaching affects that trading Paul would have on the NBA. If he goes to the Warriors, Ellis and Lee have to go.
Agreed on Curry...
Huge draw with the Dell Curry roots and the Davidson college ties
Talk about an instant fan favorite.
We all know, however, that GS isn’t letting him go…but I bet Curry would love to come HOME

sorry....I just don't see the cats making any noise at all....
with free agency or trades this season. I think their main focus is on re-signing Kwame Brown and aquiring Reggie Williams….and that’s about it.
MJ has made it pretty clear to everyone that he’s looking long term. Aquiring a piece here and there makes no sense to that strategy. Keep our youth, draft well, and within the next 3-5 years, we’ll have a young and exciting team to watch. Whether that amounts to playoffs or title contenders is to be seen, but think of Kemba, Biyombo, TT, Hendo….and then potentially drafting someone like Harrison Barnes, Anthony Davis, Terrence Jones, etc. We could have a very young and solid core in a couple of years…..and THEN make moves if we needed one or two pieces. This talk of CP3 to Charlotte, or picking up a sound player in Curry, Lee, or whoever else is getting old when we know it means nothing as far as instantly changing us into contenders…..stick with the plan!
LOL
We all know the plan…and like I keep saying,,,we won’t know jack until tomorrow comes.
I agree with you that we will do the bare minimum…suck for luck…and get a high pick (it isn’t promised to anyone is it?)
The plan is there and we will stick to it. I don’t even believe anyone will be amnestied.
Most of us love to rosterbate though…and you’re going to get that until we have something solid. What-ifs reaching to the stars…

I agree with you but let's at least rosterbate about something a little more realistic...like draft picks
Chances are…we absolutely suck this yr and get a good pick.
Give me Barnes, Davis, or Terrence Jones and that’s my reaching for the stars!
oh i sincerely doubt
we do anything at all this year, but the potential to do something big is still certainly there
there may be a surprise or two in amnesty as well that shake things up across the league
well the thing is
now that it looks like paul is definately headed to Golden State (why else would they spend so much on Tyson?), it means ellis and lee are probably gonna be on the block…. that’s one more premier center whose gonna be taken that will trickle down to possibly allow us to sign a good center
David Lee is very overrated
He was hyped up going into last season and he was not good. I don’t want to be anywhere near his contract. I watched just about every Warriors game last year and he was an MLE player at BEST. I was disappointed by that because I thought he was really good. Unless I see a change this season, I don’t want any part of him.
i disagree
a 21% defensive rebounding % and a 549 true shooting % are nothing to scoff at
lee did exactly what he was supposed to… be a third or fourth scoring option and get rebounds
he got more offensive win shares than monta ellis did for the warriors…. despite having 5 less points in usage percentage
I'm not a huge fan of this trade
Lee’s contract is horrible and he’s undersized…id rather have somebody taller
