Keith Benson Waived By Hawks

Any thoughts on picking up this guy? If nothing else could send him to the D-League to try and help him develop. He is listed as 6' 11" 230. I read that he was waived from an Italian team because he was having trouble adjusting. Guy might not be able to play but I think it would be worth a shot. He needs to put on some weight also. We are in rebuilding mode and I dont think it would hurt to invest in a guy who may not be ready for a couple of years anyway.

He'll yes!

I wanted us to draft him.. I will do anything short of killing somebody to put him in a Bobcats uniform.

Me also

I wanted him or Jeremy Tyler. Was not happy when we traded Tyler.

Not sure as I don't know anything about him

his Draft Express Profile makes it seems like he is at least 2 years away if everything goes well from being able to contribute in any meaningful way.

Seems a bit of a replication of Mullens, but with Diaw gone next season, Diop in his last season next year then it might be worth claiming him off waivers with the view to keeping him on the roster and seeing if he develops.

Th only problem I have is that we have a real need for a taller ball handler behind DJ and Kemba – IF Hendo had a better handle or we had a combo guard then i think he would definately be worth a look but at this stage you would think that he would be a long shot to be claimed by us.

I was interested in him in the draft.

I thought he was a good guy to pick up in the 2nd round and develop. He’s big. He’s sort of like a Deandre Jordan. I would take him and develop him.

I'm sure. Anything that goes against the grain.

If I said Kobe was better, you’d say Lebron. If I said Lebron, you’d say Kobe. If the sky was thought to be blue, you’d say it was red.

No not really

I didnt say I dont want Benson. I said Id rather have Smith. I was hearing that Benson was another one of those raw guys. Which we dont need. But on the same token I heard that Smith had a few impressive showings. Smith seems to be more aggressive also.

We need raw guys that we can develop.

The point of rebuilding a team is exactly that, building. We would get him and build him up into a contributor. Whatever role he serves now will work him into being able to contribute more and more as time progresses.

We all get that.

But with guys like Biyombo and Mullins that need minutes to improve, we simply don’t have the space on the roster for him. If we didn’t have Mullins it would make sense, but we can’t spread ourselves too thin.

Good Point

Still think its a good move. Think Najera will come of the books next year. So will Diaw. Could grab him now and put him in the D-League this year and next year. Could be ready by 2013 -2014 season and did not have to invest too much in terms of money. If not ready you let him go. Could hurt us short term as far as roster spots but may pay off long term.

I'm certainly open to it.

I recall that during the predraft workouts, his combination of vertical leap and length allowed him to pass the bar and therefore not allow the coaches and trainers to get an accurate read of his leap.

Might be a scrub, might not. Nothing to lose, really. But I don’t expect the Cats to pursue him.

Bro, I have Twitter and stuff.
