Kwame Brown... (Help out a confused Warrior fan)
Give it to me straight ROF , is Kwame Brown any good? Can he at least provide 15 minutes per game? How was he last year? Did he seem motivated?
I can actually justify that type of money, if he was going to get around 3.5 mil on a mult year deal getting a big to sign a 1 year deal would nearly double that amount just so the player would accept a 1 year deal since there is no guarnteed future after that. But still we should have done better in my opinion with that 7 mil . It is just for 1 year though so its just to take up the required amount of cap space teams must spend din the new CBA . But really , how much did my Warriors screw ourselves? Give me your best Kwame scouting report

Kwame Played well for us last season
Thats why he got the money he got. No one in the media knew he played well for us but he did. He impressed the hell out of me at times. His hands are still a big issue but he shot from the line better, played good defense, and had a lot more of an offensive game than I anticipated. Work him hard before games and work hard to install some confidence in him and you will see good results
I would rather have
Kwame on a one year 7 million dollar deal than Tyson Chandler on a 4 year 60 millions dollar deal. You guys lucked out on not getting Chandler. He will drop right off the planet in no more than 2 years
He will help you guys
Im not sure what your C situation is but if you guys still only have Biedrins then Kwame is an upgrade. But dont expect him to be anything but decent.
Its Biedrins starting and he gained a good amount of muscle and looks good right now
Jeremy Tyler is young and really raw, prolly d league for now
RIP Al Davis
Plus Lee and Ekpe Udoh who can play some minutes at either spot, right?
Go Suns, Packers, Jays, and Huskers!

if im not mistaken
you guys only have 1 Center on the roster and Kwame can def back him up. I hear Mark Jackson is gonna slow you guys down a bit and have them in a half court style offense and playing more defense so you didnt get completely screwed. You needed a back up center and you got a really good one. 7 mil though… worth vs value
The more I reflect on it, the more this deal makes sense for the Warriors
In a vacum, Kwame Brown is not worth $7million per season. A team not trying to make make any noise in the playoffs (like us Bobcats) would be nuts to offer him this deal. Additionally, it doesn’t make any sense to go into luxury tax range to sign Kwame.
What he brings to the Dubs this season will be valuable. Golden State has outstanding scorers on the wings, and a better than average inside option in David Lee (even though he did disappoint last season). They already have Beidrens (solid D), Udoh (potentially good D), and Amundson (hustle player). Kwame could easily start, or come off the bench to round out the big-man rotation and make the Warriors serious on deense and playofff relevant in the West. I think Kwame genuinely makes the team better.
$7mil sounds like a lot, but what are the chances of making the playoffs and not spending close to the salary cap? It’s the team’s discretion to decide how much they’re willing to spend to be successful, and this deal in no way inhibits Golden State’s ability to sign other players in the future. The real beauty of the deal, as others have already alluded to, is that it’s only one year. So you’re not handicapping yourself with a cap-spacing eating, under performing big man for the next 5 years. Those types of contracts have become the bane of the NBA, and the Warriors are wise to take a more economical route to improving the team.
The Warriors over paid a little to make sure they got a guy who could help them get into the playoffs. The importan thing is, they didn’t handcuff themselves to future obligations. The more I think about it, the more I like this deal.

I agree
To me, the frustrating point (if I were a Warriors fan) would be how they got to that point. They threw a massive contract at Jordan and missed, causing them to waste their amnesty on Bell and let Reggie Williams go. They missed on Chandler and CP3. Add it all up and then overpay for Kwame and it doesn’t look good as a whole.

Yea I understand that idea
But I don’t know that I can blame them for going after Jordan. They lost a good asset in Reggie Williams, but he was redundant on that squad anyway. Bell is well past his prime. They missed on Deandre Jordan, but I think they were going in the right direction by looking for a defensive-minded center.

Using the amnesty on Bell was dumb though
Yes, he is way past his prime and is currently having some serious personal and legal issues but you don’t waste a one-time only amnesty on a guy in the last year of a $4 million contract. Now you’re stuck with Biedrins and his crappy contract for 3 years.

But for the same reason the Bobcats won't amnesty Corey Maggette
Golden State isn’t going to amnesty Biedrins. They’re not over the cap with his contract. In fact, they have a decent amount of cap room next season. The benefit of the amnesty clause is to allow teams to get under the cap or to make cap room to aquire players. Either way, Biedrins has not current implications for those ends.
If Biedrins were waived under the amnesty provision, Golden State would be paying the bulk of his $9million (if memory serves correct) for him to play on another squad.
Maybe…maybe it comes back to haunt them in the future if a big money player can’t be aquired without using the amnesty on Biedrins, but that’s an awful specific maybe. It’s certainly not a certainty.

I understand
But that option is now off the table and I like to leave options on the table. Especially since the reason they used the amnesty didn’t work out, so it was essentially wasted.

I voted wonderful
but realistically, he’s between average and wonderful… above average
Kwame will be a fine back-up and an able starter should injury woes take over. He will also benefit from defenses being forced to pay zero attention to him.
If it makes you feel better, dubzfan, almost all of us wanted him to stay in Charlotte. We just couldn’t envision spending 7 million on him. We wish him well and hope he helps you guys out as much as he helped us out.
Kwame according to me...
Two things angered me most about Kwame Brown:
1) He couldn’t catch a pass to the basket coming off pick and rolls. Stephan Jackson and Diaw would set him up beautifully and Kwame would lose the ball out of bounds.
2) He would opt for a lay up instead of a dunk. This frustrated me the most because often tiimes he would be the biggest, strongest player on the court and he wouldn’t act like it.
RoF
I’m proud of us as a group…no one gave him the “Horrible” vote. We all agreed that he was very serviceable
Good job guys

Spoke too soon...
And it wasn’t me. I voted serviceable. Although Stephen A. was tempting.

Kwame was solid last year
Not $7million a year solid, but still…
His best season was last year. His performance last year was better than Tyson Chandler’s stint with us the year before. Look at the money Chandler is going to make.
I agree with DIrtyMac’s assessment of his hands and shot selection.
Sigh…
I am empathetic toward Brown’s plight, as I too have small, weakish hands that really hold me back in my pick-up games.

He isnt too bad
15 – 20 minutes a night would be good – as long as he is playing with the confidence he had this year he will a servicable enough centre who adds some size and prescence.
