Bobcats at Clippers Open Gameday Thread; also, how the NBA All Star fantasy draft would go down

Charlotte Bobcats at Los Angeles Clippers, Jan 29, 2011 10:30 PM EST

TV: SportSouth

Bobcats record: 20-25

SBN Clippers blog: Clips Nation

10:30pm start again, folks.

Pre-game conversation starter: Is it merely a great idea, or the greatest NBA All Star Game idea to have two captains pick the teams, like the NHL just did? I figure you get two elder statesmen who play the same position and are starting to pick the teams, say, Kobe Bryant and Dwyane Wade, and go from there. So, how would their picks go? I see it going down this way, with Kobe picking first.

Star-divide

These aren't who I think should be All Stars, or how I'd pick them, but who I think will be named All Stars and in the order I think Bryant and Wade would pick them.

It's a really good idea.

The only question I have is, what do you now call the teams? “East vs. West” no longer applies, but you would still need something that is somewhat marketable.

Team Edward vs. Team Jacob errr.... wrong thread

Team Kobe vs. Team Lebron

I disagree though I think Kobe takes Dwight first.

I guess it would be team Wade but...

Nike would get involved with their Kobe and Lebron puppet commercials and probably fatten emperor Sterns pockets.

How about Old Skool vs. New School format....

Old School-
Nash,Kidd, B-Diddy
Kobe, Ray Allen, Manu?
Pierce, G. Hill, R.Jefferson
Garnett,Duncan,Boozer
Shaq, Camby, Pau?

New School-
Paul, Williams, Rose
Wade, J.Johnson, Gordon
Lebron, Durant, Granger
Griffin, Love, Amare
Howard, Bogut, Mcgee

Great game by the Heels today

and disappointing play by the Wolf Pack, especially the first half. The Heels looked like a team functioning well, and perhaps surprisingly this season, seemed to actually be enjoying to play basketball. They started off both halves focused and guns ablazing, and Barnes had a good game, as well as Henson. The Heels dominated the boards as well. There were still some problems, noticeably a few scoring droughts, but these had little impact on the game because State was incapable of taking advantage of them.

I know he’s an alum, but I just can’t see Lowe staying there much longer. He’s a good recruiter, I’ll give him that much, but he’s a terrible coach. While a blowout such as today always makes me happy as a Tar Heel, I always want ACC teams, especially NC ones, to do well, and this includes NC State. The fact of the matter is, they just haven’t been good these past few years, especially when they play us. I think they’ve lost all their games by an average of 16 points against us these past couple of seasons, with some terrible performances included (such as today’s first half). It’s in the interest of both schools to have two solid ball clubs that can compete against each other, making the rivalry all the more better.

It’s become popular to say that State is “not our rival,” but I disagree with that statement. Obviously, Duke, to me, will always be the main evil rival, but I consider State one as well, despite their poor showing in recent years. I hope they’ll be able to turn around their basketball program in the upcoming years, and it has to start with a new coach.

He got a couple yesterday

I would imagine, with Tyrus out, and this being a back to back, that we’ll probably see more of him tonight.

It’s curious that McGuire was a no show last night, and I honestly expected to see more of him with Tyrus out. Najera has been used a bit lately, and I’m intrigued to see how the minutes are divided up tonight.

by Roger, Roger on Jan 29, 2011 8:43 PM EST up reply actions

McGuire = the Kwame effect

I believe Kwame is bringing the same things we would want from McGuire, rebounds, defense, etc. Therefore, I think Kwame is getting the minutes McGuire previously got.

I’d still rather see McGuire on the court than Najera.

The broadcasting / tv situation

Is definitely something that Jordan needs to work on during the next few seasons. This year we’ve seen some improvements, but our TV deal is still horrible. It’s a complete joke that the Bobcats can’t be seen in the entire state of North Carolina (and SC for that matter, too).

Good evening threaders!

I’m here in my new place and so is about 75% of our stuff. We’re on DirectTV and for $12 per month we get a local team package that includes SportSouth and 5 other affiliated channels in HD. I now also get all Hawks games, college games for both football & hoops for 4 teams (not sure which) and I don’t know what else! (haven’t had time to check them all yet.

Andrew – if you’re still here, I thought BBP was doing the recap, but that was last night wasn’t it? I’m slightly spazzed from moving and more than a little sore. I’ve drugged up accordingly and am about 15 minutes away from a bad case of brain float. I’ll apologize in advance in case I say anything off the chain. If you can manage the recap tonight I’d appreciate it. I’m likely to be VERY fried by game end. I’m about to eat for the first time in 36 + hours.

Go Cobbats! I mean, Glow Bobcats… Uh… Let’s go Cats! Yeah, that works. (G)

anybody got any recommendations for a good basketball shoe?

i got the Nike Hyperfuse and KD3s. both of which i’d recommend myself.
i would get the Li-Ning shoes that Baron Davis has, but im skeptical because it’s not Nike.
