Bobcats beat Warriors in overtime, 121-113
The Bobcats were down by 16 points in the third quarter, and then went on a run to get back into the game, making it a nail-biter all through crunch time. Just before the buzzer at the end of regulation, Stephen Jackson banked in a 25-foot three to send the game to overtime. In the extra period, Gerald Henderson made a monster dunk, followed by a monster block, then a D.J. Augustin jumper in transition, and then yet another forced turnover that resulted in fast break points, pretty much ending the Dubs' chances. Jackson rained in a couple more threes, Golden State managed to hit a couple desperate shots, but it was too much to overcome and the Cats had themselves a 121-113 win.
Free throw shooting nearly cost Charlotte the game; the Cats shot only 19-31, 61% from the line, with Jackson and Kwame Brown combining to go 3-11. And then Stephen Curry went nuts in the fourth quarter, hitting jumper after jumper to end up with 27 points. Crazy enough -- and I don't have the play by play data to back this up -- it appeared Curry went cold from the first quarter until the fourth when Augustin was guarding him, and then he started making shots when Shaun Livingston was in the game.
Speaking of Augustin, despite his 5 turnovers, he was probably the Cats' best player, with 27 points on 13 attempts, and 12 assists. Early on, it was Jax, partly for his scoring (he ended up with 31 points on 24 attempts), and mostly for his defense on Monta Ellis, who completely wet the bed with 6-24 shooting for 21 points. Nazr Mohammed deserves mention for scoring 13 points on 7 attempts, and pulling down 6 boards, in only 17 minutes. And finally, it should be noted that Kwame Brown went a stretch in the fourth absolutely beasting in the paint (granted, this is the Warriors' weak D), ending up with 12 points on 9 attempts.
I didn't expect the Bobcats to be this successful through the first three games of the road trip. Three wins. Blake Griffin looms. I can't wait.

great game
i have been to lazy to type lately but i have to type this……….
PLEASE DO NOT TRADE HENDO AND GET MAYO!!!!!
hendo in this game and the past couple of games has shown what he can possibly become…he is going to be a defensive BEAST. The block that impressed me the most actually was that block he had on monta (one of the best scoring guards in NBA). He sat him on his ASS..that was really impressive for basically a rookie (thanks LB). Imagine when he can start hitting a consistent jumper and the 3 ball. And DJ…this is exactly what I expected and I posted awhile back that i think his ceiling is 19 points and 8 assists per game (basically a middle class mans chris paul)…but it seems i was wrong…he is already producing those numbers..just thinking of what he can become excites the hell out of me. DJ has his confidence now..and he will reflect on this season and realize how good he has become and he will realize that he can be one of the top pgs in the NBA…and hopefully that only make him work harder. He is officially the future of this franchise IMO and with hendo as his sidekick in the back court…..tears…its just beautiful…..

that little mid range j but he not someone to fear when he shoots it…he still misses wide open jumpers more times than makes them
Yeah, I still don't trust Hendo to be the crunch time player that he's demonstrated he can
be in that game against Philly. I think his shooting has been a pleasant surprise though and he’ll continue to get better over the years.

Oh yeah. Already a monster on the defensive end, one of the best in the NBA from what I've seen.
I don’t want to get too happy about him or overrate him, but I truly think we have three players to build around and who the sky is the limit for. D.J., Hendo, and Tyrus. If Crash and Jax get back to playing consistent as they were last year and Kwame and Shaun Livingston continue to be the good, cheap pickups they’ve been thus far, I really think whoever we meet in the playoffs (if we get there) is going to have a helluva challenge on their hands, especially if it’s Chicago.

I expect a 5-1 road trip at this point.
I wanna see Silas put Gerald Wallace at the four on Blake Griffin and see what happens.
love crash...
but i would think griffin would rip his predator mask off
yeah but it ain't like we can put diaw on him
with Tyrus out, Crash is the best option and it’s been awhile since he’s been asked to defend someone in the post, but it is part of his game
A week ago I thought 3-3 would be a huge success
But now it’s the worst case scenario. Wow!

That was one of the more nonsensical rosterbation ideas I’ve seen in a long time. I can’t believe someone would think that trading DJ in return for anything short of a guaranteed NBA Finals sweep wass a decent idea.

lol
yea, but we’ve had time to see Curry start for a year and a half. We have seen Dj start for half a year. They’re averaging almost identical numbers, but that’s taking in consideration Dj’s slow start due to LB. His assists and points have skyrocketed since then. Curry also averages 3 turnovers a game for his career. While Dj averages 1.37. I will give you that Curry averages just over a steal a game, but to me, that’s negligable. I like Steph Curry a lot, but I’m absolutely fine with Dj Augustin.

That this is being discussed now shows how far DJ has progressed
Three months ago, anyone would have traded DJ for Curry in a heartbeat. Now, it’s a legitimate debate. One thing that is easily forgotten in all of the Larry Brown bashing is that being coached by him has taught DJ a ton about being a PG. Likewise with working under Felton for two years. The only thing missing was the confidence. One thing to mention is that both DJ and Curry have high ceilings that they have not yet reached. I think that once the Ellis/Curry sitiation is resolved, and his nagging injury goes away, you’ll see better numbers from Curry. And, as for DJ, after witnessing his 25 point first half vs. Philly in person, I’ll file myself under the category of unabashed believer. He should be firmly planted at the top of our “do not trade” list.
by CatsFan_Chris on Jan 29, 2011 2:51 PM EST up reply actions 1 recs
that was me
and here’s a stat for you
DJ – 5 turnovers
Curry – 13 4th quarter points while being only one of two players on the Warriors who were hitting anything with any consistency.
I love DJ and certainly a first round for Curry with Deej isn’t fair and in hindsight was a bad idea. But that doesn’t change the fact that I’d rather have Curry and he’s a better player (when healthy) than DJ. Consider this, Curry’s numbers are better across the board over the last 17 games (the Silas era) than Augustin’s with the exception of points. That includes assists. Augustin is averaging and even 19, Curry 18.6. And Curry hasn’t been 100% healthy for over half the season. He was averaging 25ppg before he went down. Basically, an injured Curry has been just as good as Augustin, who has gotten more minutes over the last 17 as well.
This points to another intangible for Curry
The man has proved he has ice in his veins.

'Bout time the 'Cats pulled out one of these victories!
Captain Jack thanked the Basketball Gods after the game and rightfully so. How many of these games have gone the other way the last several years? It’s about time we had one go our way! Great effort on never giving up.
Now how do you contain Griffin? Option 1 – Kwame. Option 2 – ??? If Kwame gets in foul trouble, this could be a challenge. I say try Derrick Brown. Give him a chance to shine on defense like you did Henderson. Look forward to that one! Great victory Bobcats!
Figures they'd go on a winning tear as soon as I left the country

Just wanted to say, I knew the Cats could do this.
I’m seeing a completely different team than the one that started the year. We can constantly beat teams we’re SUPPOSED to beat, which is the first sign of a good team coming together. Hopefully, with each win, the fan’s hate/disbelief in their own team dies down and we can put some of this rosterbating behind us until we actually see a need for it. Jax for Mayo, D.J. for Steph………why? Let’s see how good this team can be at least up until the deadline, and then we can figure out what’s best for everyone involved.

I agree with everything you said. I was advocating a trade(too many small forwards). Also, I thought the guards(starting with dj and ending with Hendo) were weak. However, I could not see the games on read newspaper accounts(bias) and box scores. I have moved from myrtle beach to charleston and now I see. The Bobcats have all the pieces they need to contend in the playoffs including the final ingredient CONFIDENCE.
by moboythunder on Jan 29, 2011 12:17 PM EST up reply actions
Confidence is the biggest thing with these guys.
I always thought they were underachieving this year despite the losses of Felton and Chandler. I’m glad Jordan was thinking the same way and made a move to axe Larry. Now only if the team can continue this surge so we can really build some fan confidence back in the team. But like you say, we got all of the pieces to give whoever we meet fits.

Anyone got video of the OT, Henderson dunk/block, clutch shooting from Jack? The ESPN highlight sucks, just Jack’s one clutch shot and a layup.

Did they have to show the Jax shot from 12/31 two times? Still mad about that one.

He does. He's already matching numbers that the "elite" have been putting up,
it makes me wonder if he can turn out to be the best PG in the NBA. I mean, obviously his defense and playing in Charlotte is going to hold him back from the true recognition he deserves on the offensive end of the floor, but I think if he was playing in New York or L.A. right now, people would already be tabbing him as the next great thing. I messed around and heard a commentator on ESPN call Felton elite the other day. Just goes to show you how playing in a small market in Charlotte and for a coach like Larry Brown can really hold you back from the achievement and recognition you deserve. Oh well, at least Larry is out the way, and if we continue to win, the small market thing will become more of a non factor as well.

Insert DJ into that New York starting lineup and with that uptempo defense his numbers would own feltons. I think felton is one of the worst PGs in the league at turnovers…and he STILL cant shoot

INSANE WIN last night Bobcats!!!
MJ, PA-LEASE do NOT trade or blowup this team. That would be a huge mistake.
I’ve NEVER seen a Bobcats game like this one. Once the Cats are down by double digits, you can usually turn off the TV. Last night’s come from behind win over a Western Conference team on the road that can score at the snap of a finger is something!
IMO, right now the Bobcats have the perfect mix of players and talents, and trading players and changing it up would only set us back. Inside, we’ve got Kwame giving us post presence. DJ, Jax, Gerald, and Hendo all can get to the rim. Jax can turn it on and take over games, and be the go to guy. DJ is the best PG we’ve ever had. And Boris…well Boris doesn’t really screw much up, but can really help move the ball around. PLEASE MJ keep this team together.
I think that this team can win in the playoffs. Silas’ 11-6 record and 3 consecutive wins on the road against western conference teams really says something about this team. IF we don’t blow this team up, we’re gonna go far this year!
I didn't get to watch the game last night, fell asleep,
but reviewed the highlights……and in year’s past, when Curry hit that 3 to put us down 8 with a little over a minute and a half left, we would’ve been done. But amazingly they pulled it off. And it was also great to see Jackson and Diaw celebrating together on the sideline with all that “tension” that’s been going on between them.
