Bonnell: Diaw not bothered by things he can't control
I get it that Diaw is a little eccentric. I'd never been around an elite basketball player who so radiated "nonchalant."

Boris just isn't motivated enough.
It became obvious to me once I googled “Boris Diaw fat”……..
look at him in the article above……….

and then look at him below

Wow...I never KNEW he was that skinny.
And pretty damn cut, too! What happened to that Boris?
Oh yeah, that’s right…
Currently researching for a way to trade rosterbation threads to another team's blog site while receiving maximum value in return.
I am glad I was a part of the first "nonchalant" Diaw conversation
I know it happened during a game thread, but I forgot which one.

I think it was while he was being born
His mother was in labor for 13 days straight – and thus he was accused of being too nonchalant.

That's only because he kept looking at the opening and then for someone open for a pass.
It was all very confusing to him at the time.
Sadly, he still hasn’t gotten it figued out.
P.S. - Is it an interim fling or a permanent bromance?

Lazy Cat
There’s a reason why Boris has such a long streak going. He never abuses his body by hustling. He never dunks or blocks. He might be a great addition to the CHL City Ballet ! He needs a double of 5 hr. energy at half time !!!
by chris in union county on Jan 16, 2011 3:37 PM EST reply actions
Is dunking such a requirement to be a good player?
I’ve seen Nazr Mohammed, Kwame Brown, and Gerald Wallace blow tons of dunks. Two points is two points. If the layup is there just as easily or moreso than the dunk, what does it matter? As for his lack of blocks, that’s not that big a deal either. His defense is above average, even though he’s not going to rack up a lot of blocks.

I really don't think he's lazy.
He goes to work, clocks in, does the job, and then goes home. I know a lot of people that “work the 8 and then hit the gate.”
Most have some other passion in their lives that they save their energy for that’s more important to them than their jobs. For some it’s the family, others have hobbies or community service work, or church-related activities. Church may be one of those favorite things. Especially the part where they get to “pass the plate.” I bet that gets him really excited because he isn’t required to do more with it. Nobody gives him grief if he doesn’t shoot it up and onto the altar.
Or maybe his thing is the environment – hence the Segway.
Whatever it is that trips his emotional triggers, it isn’t often basketball. It’s something he has skills for and therefore is a means to an end. I think that’s why his attitude is so maddening to most fans. Most of us would do almost anything to have his skills and would burn them up Crash-style every chance we could. It’s hard to for us to understand why someone with that kind of talent would choose to mail it in most nights instead of giving it their all.
I’ve gigged with guys like that in my time. Sometimes a band gets “in the pocket” and the same song that you’ve performed hundreds of times will just suddenly sound and feel different. The audience can always tell and gives a lot of love to the stage afterwards. Most of the time you’ve forgotten they were even there until the cheering starts because you were just as caught up in the sound and moment as they were. It’s a very intimate feeling and all-too-rare. At that moment you believe it’s only a matter of time before you and the guys are playing before 40 thousand fans instead of 4 or 5 hundred. At those moments, the members of the group look at one another with open admiration and a “MAN that felt good!” energy that’s as rewarding as the afterglow of sex (without the sleeping) and it was unnerving to look up and see the bass player or whomever calmly checking his settings and tuning for the next song on the playlist. It’s the ultimate buzzkill. After the gig, when everyone is smiling and talking over their Denny’s Grand Slams, that person just shrugs and says, “yeah, I guess it was alright. When did that happen exactly?” You want to kill him.

I really..
Can’t get over the man crush Bonnell has on Diaw, I mean Diaw can’t do no wrong in Bonnell’s eyes! I did think Diaw played well last night though, but I still would like for him to be moved for another player, like a center.
I will agree with Bonnell on one thing
“That approach ticks some of you off. But if Diaw leaves, would the Bobcats really be better for the exchange? Most likely no. That’s why he’s not been traded.”
Oh no! We suck again!

troubling isn't it...
Jax or Crash has to come off the bench. That solves it for me. Use both at SF
Also, Start Hendo at SG…great defender in the making. DJ starts…Kwame starts…It looks like this:
DJ
Hendo
Jax – To add a scorer to the floor
Diaw
Kwame
Second Unit
Liv
Carroll
Crash
Tyrus (McGuire for today’s Game)
Nazr
This way you always have FRESH starters on the floor…
Obviously based on the other team, you mix in Derr Brown at times…
Diaw and Tyrus at the same time…
Even Crash and Jax at the same time sometimes…but both on the floor just doesn’t seem to work.
Co-captains need to be that…captains can pilot each squad…FRESH ONES!

I was thinking about mentioning having Wallace off the bench behind Jax and Hendo starting as well
I was unsure if it was a good idea, and I am still undecided.
I was thinking about it in relation to thg post that someone put (sorry but can’t remember) about them all having played 40+ min over the last 5 games or so and it being a possible solution.
I think that it might be something worth looking into. Wallace would have to buy in for it to work though.

I think it’s a great idea. Just gonna have to convince Wallace that it is as well.

hmm...
Diaw is a great player, but like we’ve said numerous times, he just doesnt have the energy we’re used to seeing from other players.
i can live with his chill attitude as long as we get results, and in my mind, under Paul Sias, we’re getting results.
i can live with that.
he should be averaging a triple-double, but he isnt. he does make some very savvy and smart plays though—but he also frustrates us to no end.
it’s a love-hate thing, but i would say that there’s more love than hate
--(insert quote, lyric, or joke here)
For you (and others) it may be love/hate with majority emphasis on the love.
For me, the relationship is hate/tolerate.
There is no consistency from Diaw when it comes to performance. The only consitency I find with Diaw is that he’s good for about 3-4 games per month where he just springs to life and dazzles – which in itself testifies to his inconsistency!
People (including Jackson) can say Diaw is capable of averaging triple-doubles every game until the cows come home. Show me one since he came to the Queen City. Just one. Didn’t think so. Show me a month-long stretch where he’s averaged a double-double. Good luck with that.
He’s not worth the money he earns imo. One strong night does not a star make. One strong game out of every six doesn’t either.
But the 4 or 5 so-so games in a row he plays where nonchallance rules the day let down his teammates each and every time. How many times in even a single game where Jax, Liv, or DJ passes the ball to an open Diaw only to see the ball coming right back to them? We have a coach that has said several times his philosophy is “if you’re open, shoot.” He’s also said he’s told that to the players in general (and Diaw in particular) virtually every practice since joining the franchise.
Most have embraced the philosophy with remarkable results. Diaw has not. If he’s as good as Bonnell (and a few others) have made him out to be, why aren’t other teams breaking down the door with good offers in trade for him? If that ridiculously skewed rumor about the Cavs and Wallace had been for Diaw, I’d have been all over it.
P.S. - Is it an interim fling or a permanent bromance?
by Ourdaywillcome on Jan 17, 2011 12:10 AM EST up reply actions
i'll have to agree with you on that one
Diaw isnt consistent at all (and by the way, i love that you used “hate/tolerate” lol) and he does have a good 3 game stretch every month where he looks like what he should be.
but im not going to deny that without the versatility we get from him (whatever that amount may be some nights), we would be in a worse spot than what we’re in now.
however, i do, for one, think that both Diaw and a first round pick is a little too much for just cash. JJ Hickson better come with that package hahaha.
it’s really funny to see everybody’s views on Boris change all the time. i too would have been high as a kite had there been a rumor about trading him—but dependant upon who we get in return (say, a limited post player; a serious gamble at youthful talent), we would hurt from losing his versatility.

For real.
How many times have we written things here (not just you and I but David and everyone else) only to hear Dell or Steven repeat them or watch a player we’ve been criticizing suddenly correct the very things were were bitching about?
It’s almost freaky.
I know Bonnell surfs the blogs (or at least has a secretary do it for him) but the Charlotte Bobcats don’t read any of this stuff, do they? Couldn’t be. But how many coincidences does it take to make it real? My guess is several more than it takes to mount a conspiracy theory or a trade rumor, but we must be past even those points this season alone. Go figure.
I also knew that someone would respond to my Diaw has no triple-doubles remark.
It’s all good. I had already decided that if nobody had, I would. I diss when it’s deserved, but I’m also just as eager to praise. Boris Diaw played what may well be the best game of his NBA career this afternoon. It sucks huge that he and Kwame both did it in vain.
P.S. - Is it an interim fling or a permanent bromance?

Yeah, it's crazy.
It’s like the day after my Rebuild or Not Rebuild thread, Larry Brown got fired. It makes me wonder if Jordan read it . Lol.

Let's try it one more time
Matt Carroll has never hit 10 3’s in one game! And Najera has never …….. well, better not push my luck. He would be a great soccer player though. His best contribution is when he comes out at halftime and dribbles a basketball with his feet.
Oh no! We suck again!
