NBA fans predict Knicks will make playoffs, Suns won't

Each of the past two years, visitors to Rufus on Fire before the season have correctly predicted 13 of the 16 NBA playoff teams. I expect the results of this year's survey to produce similar results. Here's the raw number of votes each team got. Note that all ballots were counted, regardless of how many teams were filled in, whether that was one or fifteen.

Per the headline, check out the Knicks optimism and Suns pessimism.

The Suns' spot (unintended pun) depends on a few things

- Carmelo: If Melo is traded, it’s likely the Nuggets will ship out another big name or two and enter the rebuilding mode.
- Yao: If Yao is healthy and plays most of the season, the Rockets should be in. Scola is playing out of his mind this summer and I don’t see why that should stop him in the regular season. Aaron Brooks, Kevin Martin, Shane Battier, Scola, and Ming is an incredibly formidable opponent comprised of quick, sharpshooting guards and punishing low-block scorers.

The NY fanbase and media are delusional

The Knicks will be a lot better this year, but i don’t see them making the playoffs. The sense of entitlement that fans of NY teams have is laughable. Those guys really need to get over themselves.

Who makes the playoffs ahead of New York?

I don’t think they can do better than 7th, but really, what non playoff team is better than NY? Maybe Washington or Philly knocks them out, but really I think it’s a toss up.

True

I forgot the East has parity among the teams competing for the last few spots. NY has a shot, but I wouldn’t call them a playoff lock or a sleeper like some folk have done. Time will tell…

I don't think it's really optimism for the Knicks.

I think it’s much more a case of pessimism for the depth of the top-heavy Eastern Conference.

2 of the 3 that are wrong for this coming year

NYK and DEN

Philly and New Orleans will both get in before either of the teams above. If CP3 plays, NO is a lock meanwhile Sixers finally have a legitimate coach who will get that talented team to play .500 ball.
