Around SBN: The Worst Team Ever Projected?

Fellow Bobcats Fans

While we anxiously await the start of the NBA season, we all wonder who will become the next Charlotte Bobcat, or better yet...

Star-divide

who we might be trading.  There continues to be much hype about the possibility of landing Carmelo Anthony, and while I believe he would be a huge asset for Charlotte, I do not wish to see the team part with Gerald Wallace.  Whether it's to obtain Anthony or any other player.  I believe the current roster has plenty of potential this season, as we have not seen what Livingston can do and we have a new season to begin with Tyrus Thomas.  I also believe Kwame Brown, although clearly not the best center out there, can be a good contributer to this team as he is still a young player.  We all know Larry Brown can coach and I have great confidence in him and MJ to turn this franchise into a winner.  While we wait, let's hear any realistic trade scenarios for the Bobcats and continue to have faith in the team.  I've enjoyed reading everyones' posts on RoF and hope we can soon discuss the next big thing to happen to our Charlotte Bobcats!  Let's go Cats!

Oh, and a shoutout to James the Aussie and Ourday...I enjoy the posts guys and hope to see em continue.

I'm still hoping to pull off a

Chauncey Billups trade or possibly be a third wheel for Melo to N.J. and pick up Harris.

Need another scorer

The Bobcats need another “go-to” guy. Last season in the playoffs, when Jack couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn, no one picked up the slack. I cringed when I saw him take shot after shot and hit brick after brick. He’s our only go-to guy but when he’s off the ‘Cats are in trouble.
We need either a point who can shoot 3’s and create his own shot or a C with some offensive skills. Nazr can play O but I stongly believe he’ll be traded by the deadline if not sooner (Brown and MJ can’t resist moving an expiring contract.)
DJ could be that point. We don’t really know because he’s never had a chance to be the guy. But someone needs to be able to help out when Jack is off. Wallace has offensive skills but he’s really not a scorer and seems to do better as a complementary piece to the offense as opposed to the driving force behind it.

Ironically we thought Calderon might be that guy...

…until the trade was axed. No need to go down that road again, but he did offer the hope of a good outside shooter. At the PG spot, not too many deadly shooters available. I’m increasingly less confident of our ability to trade for Billups (if Melo is dealt). I wonder if we will turn our attention to a couple of guys that have high potential for either help or disaster…Gilbert Arenas or Monta Ellis? I just keep thinking a deal of Diaw and DJ for Ellis would work. Monta’s no pure point, and he’s not a great shooter, but he can score and create all kinds of havoc from the 1. Could Larry mold him into the kind of player he could be? At 25 this kid might be ready to break out. Still, on the surface he doesn’t seem to be a LB type of player. Arenas is a HUGE risk, with a massive contract and a shaky knee. But he could be a monster on this team..if he we’re the Arenas of old. And that’s the problem..I think he’s lost a lot from those injuries.

Please no Ellis

I know a lot of people haven’t seen the Warriors play much recently because they get no TV time, but find a moment to actually watch him play. He’s an absolute black hole on the offensive in, throwing up anything that presents itself and his body language is awful. He’s just not a team player, something the Bobcats have thrived on with the leadership of Crash and Jax. Ellis was talking trash about Steph Curry (his own teammate) before they even had a chance to play together. Pass. I like the idea of Arenas, but that is a HUGE risk… one that I’m not sure I’d be willing to take.

Just another word on Monta Ellis. I also don’t believe that Ellis seems like a LB-type of PG, but i know that Jax and Ellis are very tight. Like BFF tight. I think that would be a big plus for us. I could see Jax getting him to buy into our brand of basketball. I think he needs to play in a more structured system. I really wouldn’t mind taking a chance on a young scoring PG. I know we will not get big points out of Livingston, but we will still get great PG play from him. Ellis could be a nice change-up, especially doing what he does best, which is scoring. Another player that sort of fits the same mold as Ellis is Jerryd Bayless. He isn’t a true PG either, but once again, the kid can fill it up. Thoughts…?

I love having Jax on the team so don't get me wrong here...

but Stephen Jackson never bought into our brand of play, at least not on offense. He’s a great player, but he back his own little black hole on offense when we needed good ball movement and efficiency the most. So I doubt Monta Ellis can do any better.

+1

Just for using the term “BFF” on a Bobcats blog. Well played!

I hear that MJ's working on a deal

that would bring in CP3, Rubio, Calderon, AND Billups. Yea we have to ship out D.J., Damps, and a few others, but we’re going to be a contender for sure. The trick for LB is to get all of these guys playing time. Rumor from my source says that they’ll each play one quarter a game.

Here are 2 trade ideas for star power

Once Sept. 14th arrives, send Damp, Diaw and DJ to the Wiz for Arenas and Blatche. We get our starting PG and C (Blatche can also swing to the 4 in BIG matchups). The Wiz get huge salary relief, a PF to help facilitate their offense (helps Wall migrate to the NBA) and contribute until their rookie is ready to produce, and a reserve PG behind Wall. If Arenas is healthy he brings a huge help to this offense, along with national star-power. We’d match up to Miami’s big 3 quite nicely and be a handful for any team.

If Arenas scares you too much, I’d be willing to do an alternate deal of Diaw & DJ or Henderson for Hinrich and Blatche. Hinrich would be a good PG for our team. Of course, the Wiz would have to want Diaw for any of this to go down. Not sure anyone wants him…

Too bad New York doesn't have anything we want

We could convince D’Antoni to take back his prized PF.

I don't think the Wizards would do this

Arenas was playing well last season before all the beef went down (and in my opinion got blow out of proportion).

This trade is not a new one. I just don’t see it happening. Sure the Wiz may be regretting the huge contract they put up for Gil, but I think they give him a chance to play alongside Wall before they trade him AND a talented young big (who happens to be a dunder head, but still) for our table srcaps. John Wall doesn’t need Diaw to help him transistion to the NBA by the way.

I would only trade for Arenas

if they would take on Diop and Carroll and throw in McGee. Arenas is very talented and I agree he would be a good scoring threat to compliment Jack but his contract is soo burdensome that we would need to relieve ourselves of some of our blotted contracts as well to ease the financial pain. After the new CBA, Arenas’ contract will be so ridiculously out of touch with the rest of the league that it will weigh whichever team down and handcuff their future. He’s still young enough to play effectively through his immense contract but Washington needs to take something back in return to make it work for the other team. Not a bad idea though.

by blueridgecat on Sep 2, 2010 4:16 PM EDT up reply actions

Agreed

Any deal for Arenas would have to include Diop. I think this scenario is highly unlikely though.

by Bring Back Primoz on Sep 2, 2010 8:57 PM EDT up reply actions

I doubt we get Arenas i would like it though

I just dont think Washington really wants to get rid of him or atleast they dont act like it.

by TS BOBCAT on Sep 2, 2010 10:29 PM EDT reply actions

Then would the Wiz deal Hinrich and Blatche?

Wonder if they’d consider taking Diaw and Henderson for Blatche & Hinrich? Seems thin to me on the talent side so I seriously doubt it.

by Bassnote on Sep 3, 2010 9:38 AM EDT reply actions

Exactly! Why does Washington want to deal Hinrich?

None of these Wizards deals make any sense to me. They have three players (Kirk, Wall, Gil) who can all handle PG duties and Blatche, Ji, Thorton, even Howard handling the Forward spots. Why do they want Diaw or D.J. or whatever else?

I don’t think Gilbert’s contract is the albatrous that everyone else seems to see it as.
