Michael Jordan Continues His Great First Year as Bobcats Owner
In addition to being part of the Charlotte Bobcats' first season of post-season play, Michael Jordan continues to make progress in his quest to be a successful owner of the team. In his latest and perhaps my favorite move, Jordan took to making a generous public donation to CMS athletics programs.
More after the jump.
In a move attributed to the head honcho himself, Jordan and the Bobcats will announce a $250,000 donation to help fund CMS middle school athletics.
This comes after the school system once again made a large budget cut; this time cutting the whole middle school athletics budget of $1.25 million. CMS has commenced a program in which those who want to participate in school athletic programs must pay a fee of either $50 for middle school or $100 for high school.
In addition to Jordan, other contributors are stepping up, though not nearly as large donations as Jordan's. The Charlotte Touchdown Club (including Carolina Panthers players and the NFLPA) is donating $56,000 along with two individuals donating $5,000 each.
Fred Whitfield said, "Michael made it clear when he bought the team that this was a legacy play for him and he wanted to make a commitment to his North Carolina roots. This is his commitment and it's a great first step."

While this move is indeed respectable, it is obviously in no way more important to Jordan's status as a great team owner than his purchase of a home in uptown Charlotte.

I win as if im used to it, and i loose as if i like it for a change.
Awesome that M.J. is getting involved in the community.
Something previous owners failed terribly at.

Glad to see he's backing up his words with actions
It seems like MJ is truly embracing his role as owner on the court and in the community. I’m truly glad to see that.
And I think this donation is far more important than buying a home in Charlotte. Some haters may get off on Jordan not being in Charlotte all the time but this donation is truly impacting the community in a positive way. He can’t do that with real estate.

Well actually he recently bought a home in Charlotte and said he plans to live their most of the time.
I win as if im used to it, and i loose as if i like it for a change.
He also attended most of the games over the last two years.
The Observer staff must not attend, because they assume he isn’t there.

It was a tongue-in-cheek joke
It refers to the articles in the Observer from back when news broke that Jordan bought the team. Both Sorenson and Bonnell argued that it was of the utmost importance that MJ buy a house in Charlotte to be a successful owner. While Bonnell said it more about being part of the community than just living in the city, Sorenson just wanted Jordan to frolic with the residents. Yes, like all professional sports team owners do. Seems like every day I hear someone tell me they met Mark Cuban at the grocery store (sarcasm).
If you click the link at the end of the article, you’ll see what I’m talking about.

I got it
I’m just agreeing that Sorenson is, as always, a moron.
