Carmelo reply to LeBron on Twitter
Off-topic from the Bobcats, but Nazr Mohammed has the most active Twitter account of anyone on the team (that I know of) and it's mostly inspirational aphorisms...
@kingjames always remember, a hater is nothing but a fan. They just don't know how to express it
You all are going to have to explain this one to me. Skimming their timelines, I don't see anything that prompted this. I'm feeling like I did right after watching Inception, with so many questions...
1 -- No. A hater is not necessarily a fan. Someone might legitimately despise what another person stands for.
2 -- But on the other hand, there's something to be said for the "hater as frustrated fan" narrative. I'm like that with Bill Simmons a lot. I love so much of his stuff that I harp on his crap to the point that friends think I don't like his work.
3 -- Does this mean Melo and LBJ are delusional, trapped within their own bubbles, and ignorant of the fan experience? Or are they reacting as young jocks always have, dismissive of the rabble who "just can't understand"?

Kinda scary what could happen down the road..
But basketball did suck in the early 2000’s, I found myself watching less than in the late 90’s.. maybe we are entering a lame period in basketball where it’s just a few superteams and 25+ franchises are left in the dust

I pretty much agree with Melo on his point
Anybody who goes to the trouble of “hating on” a professional athlete is really fan. They might hate everything they stand for, but if they could actually be honest with their own self then they would admit they really just wish that athlete played for their preferred team.
Say what?
I disagree with you 110%
I ‘hate on’ Michael Vick with as much fervour as any athlete I can think of, and if I sit down and make like Socrates and self examine my life there is not one iota of my being that wants that player on my team for numerous reasons including talent.
As for an NBA analogy, I ‘hate on’ Allen Iverson because now in 2010 he is terrible, that doesn’t mean I want his as a Bobcat.
No offense Melo, I like your game but I disagree with your waxed poetic ramblings.

How is it a different situation?
Your logic is ‘someone ’hates’ on something, ergo they secretly wish they:
a. were them
b. had a relationship (business or otherwise) with them
c. secretly a fan of them
Saying that everything we dislike, or ‘hate on’ is our secret desire seems insane to me.

So which applies to you?
- You don’t hate any athlete’s game.
- You’re jealous of every athlete and wish they were on your prospective team

I'm not a "hater" by nature, but.....
There have been times in my life where i “hated on” athletes, i.e. Shaq & Kobe, Tyler Hansbrough, Troy Aikman. But only because i was tired of seeing them dominate.
The “hate” i displayed for them was more just a respect for their game.
And really, i know little to nothing about any of those individuals outside what they do in the world of sports, so any “hate” i had for them was directed at the envy i had at their superior abilities not any personal character flaws they might have.

I kind of agree with what dudemanhey is saying as far as sports. I mean very few people truly know these athletes but have the nerve to say they hate these people. I mean I will be honest I truly got pissed at the way the media and the Vikings kissed Brett Favre’s flip flopping butt. But I always gave props to his ability on the football field. You have people though that will say a great player is trash and not good at what he does just because he is killing there team or playing well. Everybody is entitled to there opinions but to blatantly try and discredit somebodies abilities with half truths or lies is just plan HATE

But if you weren't a fan of Vick's abilities....
…you wouldn’t give a crap enough to hate him.
See, where Melo is going with that?
Not at all… because Melo is boiling it down to the most base, childish, purile level like a mother telling their 7 year old daughter ‘now sweetie, Timmy only hit you because he likes you’.
I’m not a fan of Vick’s abilities, but one of the many reasons I ‘hate on him’ is because people acted like he’s the greatest thing in the NFL when he wasn’t. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction, and as such it’s human nature to ‘hate on’ something that others find appealing when you disagree with their beliefs.
To continue with Michael Vick, he was one of the worst passers in the history of the NFL for a pro-bowl QB. That isn’t ‘hating’ that’s ‘statistics’.

I agree with James
There are players I dislike heavily, but still wouldn’t mind having on my team (Tom Brady, David Wright etc) but then there are those who I truly hate and not just b/c of their game, but on a personal level. One of those people is LeBron James.. I honestly have never liked him, ever since he was mega hyped by Sports Illustrated in High School.. I had a feeling he would become a self-absorbing overly cocky individual.. a stark contrast to my heroes I used to watch in the 90’s (Malone, Stockton, Zo, Hardaway(s), Payton, Admiral, TD etc) who were all future HOFers except for injuries to a select few. When he entered the league, I preferred Carmelo to him even, and still do, although Carmelo seems to be headed down the selfish dark path as well (shame, b/c he started growing up so much recently with Billups mentoring him).
I will never cheer for LeBron James, especially after the Decision. I may be alone, but I for one have never gone all crazy over Lebron James, even when he first entered the league.. and I have the same feeling building for John Wall (coincidently, he, like James, even with a very talented team could not make it far in the postseason). I have long been a proponent of humble players and being about the team above yourself, but it seems many of our top stars are beginning to feel otherwise.

If you don't give a rip about a player that is one thing.
If you take the time to “hate” on them, then you’re just jealous.
?
LOL! Mike Train, first and foremost I don’t know you and I am not trying to start an argument but what is up with you and many other fans talking about these celebrities like you truly know them? I mean we only know what the media wants us to know and what the media wants us to know is what sells. Some of those heroes you posted above have had and continue to have a lot of skeletons in there closet and just because you haven’t heard about it doesn’t mean it isn’t true. I am not trying to stick up for what LeBron or any of the other people you seem to hate. but I am trying to help you realize that a lot of things are not what they appear to be.
Like I posted earlier I wasn’t and I am still not a fan of the way Brett Favre was given carte blanche to do whatever he wanted while flip flopping on if he wanted to play or not. But that wasn’t the biggest thing that pissed me off. What pissed me off the most was the way a lot of the media outlets gave him a pass or made it not seem like the selfish act that is was. I mean the media talks crazy shit about the guys who want a pay raise and hold out but will not do the same about a guy not letting his team know his retirement intentions

in conclusion
I don’t like the way the media tries to shape opinions. What ever happened to just stating the cold hard facts without some kind of hidden agenda? A lot of the people that these so called fans love and hate have a crafted persona made for and by the biased ass media.

OK, Melo you got me
Case in point: I don’t really hate Dwight Howard. In fact, I love watching his elbows swing haphazardly leaving opposing players in his wake. I also secretly wish I had him on my team because I enjoy players who ostentatiously foul opponents and then show a phony smile or complain with their mouth agape in the shape of an ‘o.’
In all seriousness, I respect his skills but in no way will I like him nor be a fan.

Hater is just a fan of B-Ball?
I think this quote alludes to the fact that anyone watching what you are doing on the court , whether you are a fan or not, has an instant connection when some thing amazing happens. I don’t think this has anything to do with liking the player or not. When i see an amazing play by a player i don’t like, i still hear a voice in my head whispering, “great play”. It’s being a fan of the game more than anything, but it’s just harder to accept when someone you hate is doing it to your team. The reaction is still the same though, a loud BOO!!! If you are booing then you are watching, and if you are watching then you are a fan, i guess is the way he makes the connection?
Hate if you want....
But the majority of us would LOVE to have him on our team! I’d go as far as giving up GW plus Damp’s contract and a pick for him.
Fan as in fanatic
A person whose enthusiasm or zeal for something is extreme or beyond normal limits.
One’s enthusiastic hatred of someone can make them a fanatic (‘fan’).
This doesn’t mean it’s a good thing. Enjoy the new fans Lebron.
But they're not fans of Lebron by your definition
rather fans of hatred itself.
Damn that was deep.

Haters are almost always going to be fans.
By (unofficial) definition, a “hater” is someone that doesn’t like someone, with the underlying reason being the “hatee’s” success. In most cases, the hater is a fan of another competitive team or player, or in LeBron’s case, a fan of the “Jilted Lover” (the player’s former team). I think Nazr was right.
Crap!
How come people only +1 me as a joke?
I stopped in just to hate on this post I hate it but really im just jealous of it….. or something like that.
Im with James, this statement is Crap, just a way for Lebron and Melo to feel as if everyone still loves them So they dont feel as bad about being Selfish.
Sean May I hate him He is Fat, Lazy and a waste of Talent. Do I want him on my team Hell No!
anyone else have a player analogy to disprove this theory?
