Iverson?
Out of curiosity, what do you guys think the chances of him going to the Cats are? I'd take him over DJ IMO, some people say he'd be a good fit for the Cats. I also think Miami, New York , Cleveland and Toronto would be good fits for Allen Iverson. Or do you guys think he will just retire?
Also Miami may be interested - http://www.alleniversonlive.com/trade-rumour-miami-heat-are-interested-in-allen-iverson/
I know its your old jersey but bare with me...

I'd take him. I know that goes against popular opinion.
But ultimately, I hope he signs with a contender and goes out on top.

Whoever thinks that
I’m sorry but you need to understand basketball deeper.
Just because he USED to be good and a star, doesn’t mean he still is and is right for our team. Ticket sales are up and we have 3-4 players who IMO have more star power in our state than him. We do not need him.
Team chemistry means so much these days

i dont need to understand anything
i know you dont like him but he alot of people still look at him like a star and ticket sales are up but they can get better besides its not like it would hurt. Allen definatley isnt my first choice but if it comes to that there is no reason anyone should be bummed about it
Iverson = last year
He made Memphis worse. He made Philly worse. He took part of the season off because his daughter had a cold. He had gambling and mental problems. He was injured. What more could a team want in a player. A non-playoff team that is desperate, dumb, and needs to sell slightly more tickets despite losing might sign Iverson. The Bobcats don’t fit that criteria.

first off his daughter was extremely sick dude thats not funny
but i get what your saying i dont want people to think im AI crazy because i support it i want alot of other players before him i just in my opinion think he would do decent and i know im the minority but thats just how i feal but i do get what everyone is saying
Daughter is fine now, she had pneumonia,
The illness was called “a mystery illness” and “an undisclosed illness” to take the focus off of Allen Iverson.

oh my bad i never heard about it
im sorry i thought she was really siick but i do agree with your view on him but i wouldnt mind him as a last option if he doesnt take alot of money
AI is still a star.
AI failed on those other teams because he was asked to be something he wasnt. The Nuggets trade was a bad idea because he wasnt the type of player they needed and anytime you have the #1 and #2 leading scorers in the NBA (at that time) on the same team its gonna caues issues. then the move to Detroit was just horrible for him because of the great coach Curry who couldnt even manage to use prince and hamilton and then was fired. Yea the grizzles thing was a bad idea because they had everything they needed and they just wanted ticket sales and in Philly he tried too hard to “fit in” with the team while trying to keep the focus on the other AI (who in my opinion is extreamly overated and will never be a superstar. He’s a great talent but he cant carry a team.) My point in all of this is that none of these moves were his. owners and coaches made bad decisions and didnt evaluate their rosters properly and were unwilling to change and for that AI suffered.

I’m sorry but Jackson and Wallace have 0 star power compared to AI and who are the other guys?

You're short changing Wallace's value to the Charlotte Bobcats
His face is literally all over the Cable Box, and prominently displayed throughout the city of Charlotte. Regionally, it’s not even close, and on a league-wide scale, you’d be hard pressed to find a team that would pick up AI over Wallace if given the choice.
Captain Jack has also become somewhat of a local celebrity in his short time here. Given the choice of two ornery, short-fused scorers who often let their temper get in the way of their productivity, I’d take Jackson in a heartbeat.
I won’t pretend that guys like Henderson, Thomas, or Livingston are even in AI’s league in terms of popularity or ticket sale boosters, but I think the potential is there.
I think the bottom line is that tons of baggage comes with Iverson wherever he goes, and that takes a good amount of shine and luster away from his “star power.”
i think what he is trying to say is there not household names
before i watched the NBA i had never heard of Gerald but i had heard of Allen Iverson. like i said i dont think it would hurt ticket sales and im all for it but im a little cautiouse about it
Nothing against Wallace
but he doesn’t have the celebrity that Iverson does. Not even here in Charlotte. Wallace is our most marketable player now, and to the serious fans he’ll be far more popular than Iverson, but if you’re just talking about “star power,” then Iverson is a bigger name than any player we have.
That’s not to say I want him on my team, just that he’s a huge celebrity who will still sale tickets.
Maybe some crime would help his celebrity status
a scoring title wouldn’t hurt either

Homer?
Are you really saying Jack and Wallace have the same starpower as AI? And that if AI went to the Cats his face wouldn’t be everywhere? WTF are you smoking?

Just my opinion
…and I see from reading other comments that I’m clearly in the minority. No biggie.
In response to your questions:
- Yes, I am a BIG time homer.
- No. I specifically mentioned the players’ value to the Bobcats organization. The only time I made any mention of “star power” is when I noted that Iverson’s had diminished lately due to his age, well-earned reputation, and the results of his last two stops at Memphis and Philly.
- No. I did not make any mention of whether AI’s face would “be everywhere” if he signed with Charlotte. But since you brought it up, I think it would be a huge waste of revenue, since all likeliness of The Answer would have to be removed at the end of the season, if not sooner, once he and the team inevitably part ways for whatever reason.
I'll join your minority...
I believe in second chances…but 3rd, 4th, etc.
Come on
Do we want to put someone who IS NOT the same player as they were at one time on the teamjust to sell tickets? Kinda like signing Antoine Walker, Larry Johnson, etc.
See my point…an name and a face isn’t what we need. We need the future…a solid guy that will take us to the next level for years to come. A flash in the pan is not the answer…
See how i did that? ThHe answer at the end of the statement…

Hey now! Re-signing Larry Johnson would have all kinds of fringe benefits!
Not the least of which would be the unveiling of his new “Grand Papa” character. Not because it would be a cool character, but because he’s really that old now!

That is exactly how i feel about this subject!!!
There used to be this team in North Carolina.
They were called the Hornets. Because they were a small market expansion team, they wound up with old players the rest of the league had largely cast aside. Trepuka, Parrish, Rambis, the list goes on. For a few years some wondered if perhaps they should have been named the Charlotte Hairnets because of all the “seasoned veterans” on the squad.
Eventually, through drafting young talented players, the built themselves into a mixed bag of a team that was able to eke its way into the playoffs and sell “first flight” t-shirts to commemorate the miracle.
Now there is another team. They clawed their way into the playoffs (Hornets fly but Bobcats claw, right?) with grit and determination and the only overly “seasoned” part of the picture was the coach. The team didn’t need to rely on starters that were 4-6 years past the age of viability to get to the stage they are at right now and taking one on (Iverson) would represent a rather gigantic step backwards for them. We have limited options at the moment but almost ALL of them are better than bringing on an aging player that is blind to his own limitations and still expects to be treated like the star he once was. We passed on pursuing Shaq and he is far more realistic about his present playing skills than Iverson appears to be. I will cheer when AI is voted into the Hall of Fame. He was a hell of a player. Note the past tense. The Bobcats need to better fill his position but we don’t need the ego, the drama, and the delusion that AI will carry in with his other baggage.

I'll pass
The Bobcats’ offense is built around ball movement, not iso play. Iverson would be an unwelcome distraction and he would just hurt the team. For all those who think his struggles last year would cause him to change his style of play, trust me: it won’t happen. He’s been billed as a superstar of the game for years and it’s likely that his mind is still in that mindset. If brought back, he’d just try to prove the doubters wrong by trying to return to being a big scorer, which he just isn’t anymore.

after all the mess he did last year
on two teams, I might add, why would you want this guy anywhere near your NBA team?
If I was a casual fan and I heard AI
I’d think “oh I heard about him… five years ago”
With the big names rising and falling so fast (take into point Durant) and people’s attention span shortening, players like AI and Shaq have fallen by the wayside and so have their ability to draw tickets.

LOL
At this point, I don’t really know what else to say about the Allen Iverson issue.
It has never stopped being a terrible idea; it was terrible when people talked about it this time last year, it was terrible around the trade deadline and is still terrible now. Actually, I take that back… it may be more terrible now because we’ve seen what he’s like.
NBA fans are nostalgic about superstars of the past, which is why guy like Iverson and McGrady are still getting selected to all-star games. The only justification for getting Iverson was that he would put more asses in seats and help the financial stability of the organization, but given that the reports of the Bobcats are that they are in a position of financial strength it just doesn’t make any sense to me.
