Let's try another route...

So...the Bobcats are going to have a new look this upcoming season...

Star-divide

Is this a good thing or a bad thing?  Let's look at the positive:

Crash will be back.  The heart and soul of the team!  He will be back and I'm sure he has worked hard this Summer at another facet of his game.  My guess is jump shots and ball handling.  Glad to see him returning to us ths season

Jax will be back.  He has taken the Summer to lose some weight and get ready to play his true position at SG.  He's had the Summer to play some with DJ,  and he will get a full season to gel with the team.  playing together will benefit a great deal

Tyrus Thomas will be starting at PF this year.  We are replacing a pass first, shoot seldom guy with a super athletic PF that will give any defense a fit.  His athleticism and speed will make for an exciting season.

Derrick Brown is returning.  After seeing some promising minutes last season, we were getting to see a glimmer of the atheticism he brings to the floor.  With increased playing time this year, I am certain we will see increased experience and he will become more of a value to the team.

Gerald Henderson will be back.  He's spent the off season working on his jumper and ball handling.  He's done it much more than he has worked on his golf game.  he's understood sitting on the bench for a year exactly what the team needs and what parts of his game needed improvement if he wanted off of the bench.  He's worked on those aspects, and we saw some of it at the end of the season, and we saw it carry over in Summer League.  I think we are going to be pleasantly surprised when Hendo hits the court.

DJ will be returning this year.  Sophmore slump behind him, he knows now he has to step up.  Working out with Jax in the off season will hopefully give him the swagger and confidence that is needed to be the Floor General.  He knows what parts of his game needed improvement, and I think an improved DJ will take the floor this year.

Shaun Livingston is joining us this season.  He is young, athletic, a PG nightmare.  Personal opinion is that as long as he is healthy, and LB can rotate players in and out instead of having 5 guys with 40+ minutes per night, he will be one of the biggest pickups of the off season.

Nazr will be back with us this year.  He proved to us last season that he deserved playing time.  He was definitely a strong force in the center position for us last year when Chandler was busy riding the bench.

Questionable New Guys:

Matt Carroll - can he still stop and pop?

Najera - is he still the coach favorite garbage guy at crunch time?

McGuire - ?

Collins - Can he play like he did when he was leading his college team?  Can he keep the weight in check...

Dampier - Obvious salary dump...is he worth bringing back at a lower salary?  His biggset drop in production came due to a loss of Playing time to Haywood.

Questionable Old Guys:

Diop - Can you do what Nazr did last year?  You're over seas right now representing the NBA...I pray that you are healthy, and in decent shape, and I for one am hoping you surprise us all.

Diaw - Where does he fit in?  a $9mil backup PF is not an attractive option on a team full of $$$ contracts.

A nice backup, but not for the $9mil per...

So, there...I did it...positive as I can be, and if we all give the team a chance, they may surprise us more than we can imagine.  We can all be let down just the same, but I promise, as the season gets under way and continues, if not before, you'll see some more roster moves take place...but for now, let's give what we got some props and let's back out Charlotte Bobcats, no matter who is in those uniforms...

Nice work to nudge the glass....

…but it still doesn’t make it to half-full for me. Torched in the playoffs or not, Felton was a better PG than DJ by far. I like the addition of Livingston a lot, but he will forever be a question mark, no matter how he plays on a given night. Chandler was hardly a staple for us, but he demonstrated solid production late in the season and contributed decent minutes in the playoffs. Nazr is another year older and one more injury away from being a non-factor. Even if we re-sign Damp at lower $ his production cannot be counted on beyond adding another “Frankencenter” strategy of using 3 centers to get 10 and 10. I just don’t see us improving with our current group, especially with the additions and improvements we’re seeing from other teams.

How is Felton a better PG than DJ?

Felton was superior last year but it was a shame DJ didn’t take the starting gig his rookie year. Should have been DJ’s job at the start of last year. DJ took his lumps last season but got better as the season went on. Let’s give the guy a chance. How good was Felton his 3rd year? He couldn’t even start over Jeff McGinnis (partly to blame on Vincent) if DJ has the mindset LB will make him an above average guard in this league.

On the above post I’m not completely sure Tyrus is our starter opening day. With all the quirkiness this year I would be surprised to see Diaw start.

I think I want to start a petition to the FO to trade Diaw and Brown if need for for Eddy Curry. It’s win/win if he still sucks and can’t get in shape he rides the pine for year we save 6 million over the course of Diaw’s contract vs. Curry’s contract. If he plays well he is the perfect compliment to Tyrus and we can perhaps resign him at a lower figure next season.

I'm excited

Maybe just because it’s basketball and I miss it already. Maybe it’s just curiosity. This team is significantly better than the team on opening night last year. There are a lot of question marks, but a lot of potential for improvement with DJ, Hendo, Derr-Devil, T-Time. I do wish we still had Tyson both for financial reasons and because he’s looked good and healthy in the USA stuff. But maybe Matt Carroll can find his stroke and help us out from deep (definitely could have used some 3 point shooting last year). At least give this team a chance before we doom them.

The problem w/ Carroll is that LB won't play him.

Jax and Hendo’s ability to defend and drive are always going to trump Carroll’s long ball. I’m not necessarily upset about it, but I just don’t see Carroll getting off the bench.

I think signing Damps to a relatively cheap 1 year deal would be a great move

The guy belongs in the NBA. He’s played in the finals. At the right price he deserves a shot to be our starting center.

While I can’t be as optomistic as Drew is here, we will be starting the season with the best product that the Bobs have ever put out. I just can’t wait til November.

+1,000

Everyone tends to forget that Mek was a beast for a few years, especially on the defensive end.

He has certainly digressed

But his first 2 years here were certainly better than any year Dampier has had.

by Bring Back Primoz on Aug 12, 2010 5:29 PM EDT up reply actions

I was really happy with him the first 2 years

I thought he would get better offensively as he played longer and filled his potential. Unfortunately he had already peaked as a player and there was little improvement left to have out of him.

I really like this post. As much as i would have loved cp3 we still have our cats. True we lost my favorite player in felton and a top salary 5 in tyson but we are almost the same team as last year. With some young talent and an offseason to learn each other we can still play the right way and win some games. We dont need a superstar. We have to go one step at a timewe need to win a playoff game before we make it to the finals

Is it a forgone conclusion that Tyrus will be the starting PF?

I haven’t heard or seen anything anywhere that says TT will be the starter. Diaw is still around and with the lack of a pass-first player in the other four starters, I don’t find it too far out of the realm of possibility that Diaw will start as long as he’s with the team.

We need a PF who will bring some action and results

Tyrus will be no savior, but hopefully he will develop consistency of focus under LB and be a dynamic player every game. You won’t get that out of him unless he’s a starter. Boris is lazy in a French way…I hope he’s trraded.

by Bassnote on Aug 13, 2010 8:58 AM EDT up reply actions

I already said this else where but...

Boris Diaw will be our starting PG by January.

BOOK IT!

by and1droid on Aug 13, 2010 10:10 AM EDT up reply actions

haha i know Boris used to be a PG

but last year he looked like he barley could dribble everytime i saw him dribble down the court i was biting my nails he has gotten a little clumsy

I'm all about fan posts like this one

also. Diaw smells…why anyone get close enough to guard him is beyond me.

Last report I saw....

Yesterday said that Diaw looks like he’s been taking it easy this summer and has put on some extra lbs! Just what we needed from him being that he wasn’t in the best shape last season either.

by paison on Aug 13, 2010 10:16 AM EDT reply actions

Which is also why...

Hoopshype.com reports that Walter Herrmann might get a second chance with the Cats. We may sign him for pennies and obviously look to move Burger Boris to shed some cap room.

It's been said before

But I would love to bring back the Claw!

haha!

Fat joke AND French joke! Double points.

Did you guys hear that they had to stop doing fireworks displays at Euro-Disney? Apparently a French army barracks near by kept trying to surrender.

Hahahaa!

Wow, I have been away too long

There’s so many new people on here. I’m not complaining, in fact, I’m glad to see more new people jump on the bandwagon. It’s making me even more excited for the upcoming in-game threads.
