A trade scenario that would make Michael Jordan a local God!
Charlotte use to be the a Pro-Basketball mecca until George Shinn took the team and split. Charlotteans use to pack the old Tyvola stadium to watch a team that had no chance of even making the playoffs (early on at least). Hornets apparel was a hot market in the Gran-ma-ma/Zoe days, even nationally. As a kid I went to those games with my Father, and like many those our some of my first pro sports memories. However we were all crushed when the team left. And this is why I believe so many people are having such a hard time supporting the Bobcats.
So for Jordan to SERIOUSLY resurrect Pro-basketball in this town, I propose he do the following:
Trade DJ, Diaw, Dampier and a whatever draft picks necessary for, Chris Paul, Emeka Okafor AND the "Hornets" brand. I don't know if it's even possible to adda team brand to this sort of thing. But how would this look to you?
2010/2011 Charlotte Hornets starting lineup
HC: Larry Brown (hall of fame)
PG: Chris Paul (all-star)
SG: Stephen Jackson (all-star potential)
SF: Gerald Wallace (all-star)
PF: Tyrus Thomas
C: Emeka Okafor

Personally, I'm over the "Hornets" name
I’m sure some may agree with you, and I might even be in the minority, but I’m quite OK with the Bobcats franchise name and color scheme.
Now, the trade itself? Brilliant. If this is the end result, I’m ecstatic. I for one was quite content with Okafor’s “quiet double doubles,” and even if he hit his ceiling years ago, he’s relatively young, not prone to injury (that yoga has to be good for something), and consistently solid. Also, we keep Wallace, Henderson, & Brown, who are 3 players I’m most concerned about losing (I don’t think Thomas is on the table).
I think the trade itself is sufficient for resurrection purposes.
I'd imagine most here are over it
I’ll follow the team either way. But our numbers are few. It’s all the people who use to be Hornets-crazy, but now care less about the Bobcats who Jordan would be targeting.
I’ve said it before, nothing sells a sports franchise like history. And we’d have that back.

I'm not one to hold grudges...
But Charlotte Shinn Kickers has a certain ring to it.

That would be an unbelievable trade!
But I do believe NO would want Crash mixed in with the offer. I would hate to see him go, but getting CP3 AND Okafor back would be awesome! Okafor isn’t a bad player at all. Yes, he is over-paid and isn’t a typical Larry Brown type player, but he IS an asset, not a liability. And CP3…what’s not to love!?! I would just hope it isn’t just a rental with the rumblings of him wanting to go to NYC to form a trio of his own…

And the Hornets franchise would be nice too...
but I think most people are comfortable with the Bobcats now and as long as there is a winning product, most people would be satisfied!

James,
Have you heard anything from your source by chance? You mentioned something about a play in left field that may or may not explain anything? The party really died quick yesterday…

I have heard a few things. But I’m being overly cautious now for the sake of my reputation and that of this blog.
I stick by my previous statements:
- I haven’t heard anything is dead.
- If a trade goes through that impacts what I heard I will divulge
- If by Friday night/Saturday morning we’ve heard nothing I’ll create a post outlining what I was told.
Until then I’m waiting and watching like everyone else.

I doubt
NO would do this, as they’re clearly wanting to dump salary and go young… Dampier’s contract is gold to them, and DJ would work nicely for what they want, but why would they want Diaw? It would almost certainly have to include G-Force or Hendo.
something I found intresting Hoops World had an article posted about Luther Head. Basically his agent is pissed off because NO withdrew their offer. His Agent said that Head is perfectly Healthy. I guess we all already knew this but shows NO is up to something.
DISCLAMER: **Based on nothing but my opinion**
If Head’s agent is being truthful this is a really, really dirty move by New Orleans. If they tried to ‘find’ an injury, just to void a previously agreed upon deal it’s putting the player’s career in jeopardy when he didn’t do anything wrong.
I read a report that the players union would be looking into it, so maybe we’ll know the truth soon.

thats what im thinking as well,
theres just WAYYY too much stuff going on for a potential trade to go down. James and Ourday were certainly onto something.
theres no way that NO has a day as busy as yesterday (losing their GM; dropping Luther Head; Bobcats picking up Shaun Livingston) and NOT pull something off.
it only makes sense that they dont take Luther Head for a number of reasons: roster space, better talent, and money.
i still say that we be patient and wait for something on Friday.

They turned down an offer of Marcin Gortat + Jameer Nelson + Vince Carter
For CP3, Okafor, and contracts to match. That is two quality all-star starting players and a serviceable starting center plus mega cap relief at the end of this season. Pretty sure he won’t be traded this year, if ever.
That's a crappy trade
Vince isn’t as good as he used to be, Nelson may be better than Felton but he’s no all star. And Gortat is a decent 2nd stringer.

Except Nelson was an All-Star. Gortat has per minute numbers that are right below that of Dwight's (in rebounding and blocked shots) but not points.
You aren’t even trading your first or second best player in the deal. Jameer, Vince and Gortat would give them immensely more production value than Augustin and Diaw.
I'm not sure where you're getting any deal from
but there has been no confirmation of any players in a trade to NO. Vince has a few years left and less I forget he shrinks whenever the spolight gets on him in pressure situations. For 16 mil/yr I don’t see the Hornets wanting that. It’s sad that Nelson can be considered an all star pg when he’s never averaged more than 6 apg. You know how many other players had more assists than him that 08-09 season? 67 people. Oh you want to go by assists per game because he only played 42 games? Fine. 22nd. Let’s see who was ahead of him? Ramon Sessions, Earl Watson, Stephen Jackson, Raymond Felton, Chris Duhon, and many more. How many point guards were above him were from the East? And I’m not counting Arenas’ two games. 9 Eastern point guards: Calderon, Rondo, Duhon, Harris, Felton, Andre Miller, Billups, Rose, and Sessions. WHAT AN ALL STAR! Nelson is good, but he ain’t as good as you think. And Gortat is decent but you cannot use per minute stats to support any argument. Example: Ian Mahinmi’s per 36 minutes from 2007-08: 33 points, 6 bpg, and 8 rpg.

So now people are given all-star selections by how many assists they average?
You might have missed the fact that he was shooting 50% from the field and 45% from 3 that season. He was the best shooting guard in the league that year, until his injury. I believe he also had the highest true shooting percentage in the league as well.
Problem is it appears that season was the exception, not the rule for Jameer Nelson.
Don’t get me wrong, Jameer is a top 15 PG and schooled Felton in the playoffs, but he had a good season at the right time when he made the all-star team.
Is Mo Williams a perennial all-star? Or was his selection a one off?
Of these two players, which one of these players would you want leading your team based on their 2009-10 season (per 36)?
1: 15.8 ppg, 6.8 apg, 0.449 FG , 0.381 3P %
2: 16.1 ppg, 7.4 apg, 0.477 FG, 0.400 3P%
Just tell me, player one or player two.
Bonus cookie for people who can tell me who the players are.

Bobcats Fan here sticking up for Nelson. Allstar selections have more to do with the Teams success than stats. I think Nelson is more of an Allstar than Mo. If Nelson needed to put up more numbers i believe he could. He is on a team with alot of weapons his stats would be better if he was relide upon to do more.
I think by now people know Mo Williams isn't that good.
I know Jameer is player #1. Don’t know #2, probably Williams. Nelson also got injured again in the 09-10 season. He spent a good quarter of the season re-aclimating himself. His shooting percentage came back up after getting back into game shape. Most reasonably Magic fans knew that the 08-09 season for Nelson was going to be an extreme outlier. He was never that good of a shooter before and probably will never shoot that well again, but that doesn’t take away anything from what he did that season.
Player number 2 is Darren Collison, player 1 was Jameer Nelson
All I’m getting at is I don’t really see why the Hornets would want Jameer Nelson, when if they would entertain trading CP3 it would only be because they feel they have someone who could carry the load.
If the supposition is that Nelson will have a statistical improvement being back from injury, then we can only assume that Collison will have an equal or better improvement from spending more time in the NBA.

Fine whatever
You want to say Nelson is a perennial all star, fine. But no way the Hornets would trade a superstar and a mediocre center for an aging wimp with a huge contract, a good pg, and another mediocre center.

Nelson was an all star because why?
How many were hurt at the All Star Break?
Kobe didn’t play, CP3 didn’t play
and that’s off the top of my head

yes i must confess
i never thought nelson was anything special, pre or post being all star.
during that playoff series i didnt think nelson was very exceptional, i thought felton was exposed as average or below

Just putting it out there
From 2008 to 2009 the Eastern Conference lost the following all stars to the West:
- Jason Kidd
- Chauncey Billups
Personally, I think Devin Harris, Mo Williams and Jameer Nelson were all-stars by default because the above players were gone.
Cat Scratch Reader's resident optimist.

Devin Harris by far > Williams or Nelson
Id have to say he is better than Billups and Kidd right now also.
I agree
I never did understand the trade for an old Jason Kidd to Dallas for Harris.

I'm not a Nelson Fan
but the examples you give are guys who didn’t play on the Western conference All star team. Lookin at the PGs in the east who else deserved it over Nelson? Rondo, Rose maybe?
