Around SBN: VIDEO: Austin Rivers' Buzzer Beater Finishes Off UNC

Good morning: what's next for the Bobcats?

Good morning, guys. Just got back from vacation. My cousin, who happens to have the exact same name as me and the exact same photo on his SBN profile, has been tending the site the past three days. Has anything happened with the Bobcats? Let's check the site...

(Falls out of chair)

Star-divide

I don't see or hear anything new, but the consensus here is different from that of my offline buddies. Here, folks are excited by what could come next, and MJ's proclamation that the FO isn't through lends credence to the rumors flying around. My buddies are more interested in the narrative that the team is saving real money -- paying $66 million or paying $60 million has no effect on the salary cap, but it's still real money, and waiving Dampier flows that money back toward the bottom line. So, until a blockbuster happens, let me start with a couple points.

1 -- That overflow thread with random made-up trades I posted last night? Those trades count as blockbusters these days. It would be major roster upheaval for the Cats, and upheaval for whichever team worked with them.

2 -- I'm thinking more and more that my comment in the QCH post about the Cats spreading talent rather than investing in one guy is what's happening. Why spend $12.6 million on Tyson Chandler when that money can be split up among, potentially, four contributors? Isn't that Larry Brown's MO?

I know Cavs got him

that’s why I put “have” 4 years/24 million with team option for fourth year. Maybe a little overpaid but small markets have to do that type of thing.

by JDuaneHipps on Jul 14, 2010 8:28 AM EDT up reply actions

he's an RFA

what I’ve heard is that Houston really wants to keep him and Scola, and it would take ridiculous offers from other teams to get them (esp. Scola). This one is a bit much for a PG that looked like a good shooter in limited minutes last year, so we’ll see if Houston matches or not.

Lowery's defense is the key...

and the fact he can hit the open jumper better than Felton & equally as good distributing the ball IMO

by JDuaneHipps on Jul 14, 2010 8:33 AM EDT up reply actions

I didn't say anything against him

but anyone who wants him will have to seriously overpay to get him away from the Rockets.

I can tell you safely

Unless there is a 3 team trade, or something happened overnight that I don’t know about (which doesn’t appear to be the case from Ourday’s comments last night) this is smokescreen.

We will, unless everything falls through.

From that link though, there is a paragraph to pay attention to:

As ESPN’s John Hollinger points out, the deal doesn’t make sense because the Bobcats are dumping salary in the short term (Chandler’s deal) to take on more salary over the long term (the three guys they are taking on are owed 17.1 million over the next three seasons).

It doesn’t make sense if you look at the deal in isolation…

I'm all for sitting back and waiting...

If nothing comes then this was completely and utterly stupid move. We lost a prospect while taking on more money. I think I’d want these “other” deals complete before making this move.

by JDuaneHipps on Jul 14, 2010 8:32 AM EDT up reply actions

The thing is, we could save money this year buy cutting Dampier. It’d be a bass-ackwards way of doing it, but it could be done.

by David A. Arnott on Jul 14, 2010 8:33 AM EDT up reply actions

We save money this year but even in luxury tax dollar for dollar the savings over the course are minimal

by JDuaneHipps on Jul 14, 2010 8:35 AM EDT up reply actions

I would agree

These trades being worked on were/are are major gamble, and yes… if it falls through we likely missed out on a lot of good talent.

But it’s a ‘bird in the hand v. two in the bush’ situation, and we’ve settled for a long time at getting ‘good’ players.

Whether he’s questioning us getting rid of Okafor’s long contract for Chandler’s, calling us the 30th ranked franchise in the NBA, or simply because he doesn’t like our uniforms, I’ve never heard him say one thing positive about the Bobcats. Nevermind, I remember one time he actually placed us 28th instead of 30th.

Tayshaun at least would bring shooting to the team. I still believe Diaw will not be in a Bobcats uniform at the beginning of next season. His antics have grown tired here.

by JDuaneHipps on Jul 14, 2010 8:36 AM EDT up reply actions

yes, but I think most teams in the league see that

it could be hard to find a team willing to take him….Toronto did, but they were a lot more interested in Chandler’s expiring…..I still like the 3 team someone put up with Knicks and wolves, with Diaw joining D’Antoni and Charlotte getting Beasley

by albesir on Jul 14, 2010 8:39 AM EDT up reply actions

I don’t think that deal makes sense at all personally, but if it happens I’m all for it. Beasley comes off the bench? Obviously we’ve signed our PF of the future…at least for now.

by JDuaneHipps on Jul 14, 2010 8:42 AM EDT up reply actions

true

but Beasley has been more of a SF so far in the NBA. He fits more into the PF position, but he’s kind of a tweener and has moonlighted at center occasionally as well. He really needs to pick a position and work at it, bulk up for PF or work on quickness and more shooting range for SF, but I think the main problem he has right now is that he just doesn’t fit either position well right now and just has to find a way to make his game work at this level

by albesir on Jul 14, 2010 8:50 AM EDT up reply actions

Agreed

I was excited we were getting Beasley and could let Tyrus get an offer elsewhere then decide to match, but like with most early reporting it never happens and was left all alone curled up in the fetal position sucking my thumb.

I actually think Beas will be really good once some of his athleticism diminishes and he packs on a few pounds. Problem is where is his head going to be all his career will he grow up or will he continue to be a kid. I’m from Charlotte & live in DC. I see the guy out like I saw Sean May when I lived there.

Good morning y'all.

Been up about an hour beating the bushes for info. For the first time since last Wednesday I have absolutely nothing from any of my 3 people. My main guy left a voice mail that he was headed home and was told he could come in late today but no later than 11 am. I have no earthly idea if that means anything or not – but that “cone of silence” is still surrounding the Bobcats and the news I got last night (the above voice mail and the “offer has been sent” I reported in the other thread) all add up to a big fat “wait for it” in my opinion.
I’ve read the early stuff (Bonnell, some NBA tweet roundups etc) and one or two reporters are tweeting some “what the hell is going on” kind of stuff but that’s it. These are national guys all in Vegas. So they smell something on the breeze but have not idea of anything specific. I doubt they’d sit on the story if they really knew anything – not even if Jordan asked them. The way the scotch flows in the Vegas Bars any reporter that had the goods would be bragging like mad. It would take about an hour to become the worst kept secret in the NBA.

The secret Adam Morrison workout leaked

The Cavs were one of a handful of teams that attended a workout Tuesday for former No. 3 overall draft pick Adam Morrison. The team is considering various small forward options, though Morrison is down the list. He has averaged 7.5 points on 37 percent shooting for his four-year career and just 2.4 points for the Lakers last season. Cleveland Plain Dealer

Celtics are a playing in the Adam Morrison sweepstakes

The Celtics are being very open minded when it comes to their roster next season and some team officials spent Tuesday watching a workout by former third overall pick Adam Morrison, who spent the past two seasons winning two NBA titles with the Los Angeles Lakers while on their bench. Morrison is a free agent and looking for work, and the Celtics are seeking a shooting specialist to bring off the bench. Morrison has proven in his four NBA seasons that he is not talented enough to be a starter, but perhaps he is prepared for a more expanded role than the one he played with the Lakers. Morrison was active for one game during the NBA Finals and never found much playing time with Los Angeles as Phil Jackson opted for Sasha Vujacic as his gunner off the bench. Boston Globe

Right spot, no pressure...

That’s the role Morrison needs.

Honestly, his emotion that we loved so much prior to the draft should have probably showed us that maybe he was too fragile to be an NBA superstar… hindsight is 20/20 though

Hughes is finally healthy after a series of injuries that have limited his ability to train and prepare in the off-season and now that he’s healthy and a part of one of the largest free agent classes in the modern era, Hughes understands that to make a team he need to work harder than ever before. After watching a recent workout at Impact Basketball in Las Vegas, Hughes clearly looks like a player that ready to redeem himself.

Hughes says his ideal landing spot in free agency would be to return to the Charlotte Bobcats, where he felt a real connection with the team and the coaches. Hughes understand the free agent game has a pecking order and that he must wait for his turn and says his agent has heard from a number of teams but at this point in his career he’s looking for a winning culture and a veteran team ready to compete.

Ultimately, I think it's good both ways

Minnesota get another 1st rounder, which helps them build through the draft. They’re committed to Jonny Flynn and Luke Ridnour at the point, they get rid of Session’s contract, and get a big man with upside.

Dallas get Sessions who they can shop and let him rot, and get Rubio who could take over for Jason Kidd when he retires.

BREAKING NEWS!!!

Wizards also watch Morrison workout…
“It was a good shooting workout. It was good,” Morrison said, before being asked if he’d be interested in coming to Washington. “That’d be a great place. But I want to play anywhere. I haven’t played basically in two years, so I’m just trying to get somewhere to get some time.” Morrison has been limited to just 83 games the past two seasons in Charlotte and Los Angeles, spending most of last season in sports jacket celebrating from the bench. He said he learned from his time in Los Angeles, although he never made the rotation. “It’s tough not playing,” said Morrison, who has career averages of 7.5 points and 2.1 rebounds per game. “My Laker experience was still great, though. It was still positive. I got two rings. I made some good contacts, made some friends. I think just the biggest thing was the perimeter-based and ball-handling and moreso learning how to be a better pro watching Kobe [Bryant] and Ron [Artest] and those guys, how they conduct themselves and how they take care of themselves and how they workout.” Washington Post

It's gotta be CP3 & Oka

That would be my best guess to what this potential trade is involving. Although NO says they aren’t trading CP3, I believe they are. They watched as Collison took over the point last year and did superb. They really don’t even need CP3 any more. Heck, who knows if he’ll even be healthy or ready to play. Plus, I don’t think the Hornets want to end up like the Raptors or Cavs with nothing to show when CP3 becomes a FA.

As for Okafor, I think the Hornets were not all that satisfied with him (from what I’ve read) and desperately want to unload his contract. Additionally, the Hornets just traded for Cole Aldrich, so Okafor is expendable.

Additionally, NO is probably looking for someone to replace Stojakovic at the SF b/c he just isn’t getting it done. Collison is great at the point, Thornton proved well at SG, West is great at PF, and now Cole Aldrich is their center. What are they missing?? SF. And they just traded their new SF Quincy Pondexter in the Aldrich trade, so they need another SF, at least a backup if not a star replacement.

Here’s where the Bobcats come in: The Bobcats desperately need to upgrade both C and PG positions. To obtain Paul and Oka, my guess is that it would require departing with G-Force. Would probably also require a Center, so that NO can back up Aldrich, so there goes Nazr. And NO might want some cap relief as well, so Dampier might go too. If not, I guess we just cut Dampier for our sake. And a 1st round draft pick would probably be involved too. So here’s my shot at what this super-secret trade includes:

NO trades:
C Emeka Okafor
PG Chris Paul

CHA trades:
SF Gerald Wallace
C Nazr Mohammed
(And/or) C Erick Dampier
1st round draft pick

REMEMBER, this is merely speculation, I have no sources or anything, just taking a wild whack at whats going on. Maybe this trade includes another team, or doesn’t even involve NO, I really don’t know. But this would be my best guess…

C- Oak/Diop

so...

absolutely NO depth at center…might as well get Theo again. we’d be stuck with Peja(probably). The thing is that it seems like Diaw is already on his way out, so he’s got to be a part of another trade. If we thought he was nonchalant this year, wait till we get the “almost traded…whoops you’re still here” version of Diaw. My god. WHY??!!!!!????

SF would then probably would have to be

…Derrick Brown, or we could look in the FA for someone, or bring back Stephen Graham (he didn’t do too bad last year when he started). You could even trade Diaw for someone, b/c he is obviously out of favor.

But looking at this trade, it makes sense for the Bobcats. Even though they lose their favorite and most valuable player, they gain an all-star and reliable double-double center, both are going to be needed if Cats are going to measure up against their division rivals or be a serious playoff contender. Yes, losing Wallace hurts, but the peices gained in return would be an upgrade 4 the team.

Fair enough

All I can say is what I was told by my source. Which was that:
a) Deals have fallen through in the past when something gets leaked to the media early
b) Leaking it early could potentially cost my friend his job until he gives me the go ahead

fair enough

but simply saying “my source asked me not to leak this” is a lot easier for us to digest

and i wasn’t demeaning your contributions to the sportsworld, i merely meant, what a bunch of “fans” conjecture on a blog certainly would have no bearing on the outcome

most media members don’t play the “joe said that bob said that john told him that a deal might be in the works” card, so presumably your secret would be safe

but respecting a friends wishes is totally different

It was just one step removed.

One of the reasons he told me not to leak it already is that the deal could be in jeopardy if the mass media got wind of it… so I just took out the part where he asked.

I gotta back up James here.

Some of the sportswriters pay people just to monitor the blogosphere. Blogs are like the National ENquirer. Often ridiculous but enough legitimate information surfaces on them that they can’t be ignored. We have no idea who is reading this blog but it’s a safe bet that ROF is high-profile enough that at least the Charlotte Observer people take a look now and then.

No real new news guys.

I did hear that the Bobcats have pieced together a backup plan of sorts if things don’t work out. I still don’t know if I like it, but we’ll keep Wallace and improve… some.

This has not been a good morning for me pain-wise and I haven’t been able to do much aside from efforts to ease that so I can concentrate a bit. It’s delicate because if I take my backup meds and everything kicks in too hard, I basically zone out hard for hours.

Just in case anyone is peripherally interested – this is a morning when my left leg will not hold my weight. It doesn’t happen often, but it’s really scary when it does, as I’m sure you can imagine.

Why should we

trade G-Force in order to compete with Miami?

Do you guys not remember how well Wallace guarded Lebron in their meetings last season?

by adamcawa on Jul 14, 2010 10:54 AM EDT reply actions

because they can't compete in all honesty

with the roster they have right now…..the only way to really be contenders is to get a superstar, and that’s probably going to involve G Wall. S Jax is adequate against the queen. I’m more worried about who’s going to guard the other two

by albesir on Jul 14, 2010 10:57 AM EDT up reply actions

Dont forget

hendo when given the chance late last season guarded kobe pretty well.

by ad0131065 on Jul 14, 2010 11:00 AM EDT up reply actions

for about 3 minutes

who can guard him the rest of the game?

honestly, I’m sure he wouldn’t do a terrible job, but it’s one thing to come in with fresh legs and guard someone for 10-12 minutes, and quite another to guard someone for 35

by albesir on Jul 14, 2010 11:02 AM EDT up reply actions

being adequate

against lebron allows him to score 25 and not 35… Jax is nowhere near athletic enough at his age to keep up with LBJ

by adamcawa on Jul 14, 2010 11:05 AM EDT up reply actions

I think

we will see a slightly quicker jax and leaner. I read that he is trying to cut his weight back from 240 to 225.

by ad0131065 on Jul 14, 2010 11:10 AM EDT up reply actions

then G Wallace

was usually “adequate” against LeBron as well, cause I think he still scored 20+ppg against him, though he normally had to take around 25 or more shots to get there

by albesir on Jul 14, 2010 11:11 AM EDT up reply actions

efficiency

is just as important as production

by adamcawa on Jul 14, 2010 11:12 AM EDT up reply actions

exactly, so saying Lebron only gets 25

doesn’t mean anything if he shoots 9 for 26 and has 7 TO’s

S Jax and and a good defensive strategy can do that

by albesir on Jul 14, 2010 11:19 AM EDT up reply actions

certainly not

if we’re going to have to worry about wade, bosh and miller… the only way you’ll be able to beat miami is to play them man… and jax can’t play lebron man

by adamcawa on Jul 14, 2010 11:20 AM EDT up reply actions

I agree

I think guarding Miami, unless they get a couple more reliable shooters, involves tightening the noose in the post to slow down Bosh and try to keep Lebron and Wade from getting to the basket. All those guys are best mid range and in. Miller used to be a good spot-up shooter from outside, and could be again in all liklihood, and LeBron and Wade are serviceable outside, but keeping them outside is a win IMO. Both of them are much much more dangerous driving

by albesir on Jul 14, 2010 11:25 AM EDT up reply actions

what I mean is

it comes down to the team strategy more than individual defenders

by albesir on Jul 14, 2010 11:25 AM EDT up reply actions

by maverick24 on Jul 14, 2010 12:21 PM EDT up reply actions

that used to be Dirk

still is to an extent, but it brings up an interesting point…..dont the bigs have to learn how to play outside as they get older cause their body can’t handle the strain in the paint? Dirk was always a shoot first player, but in the last 4 or so years, he’s been bringing the ball down and backing into somebody more and more. it doesn’t seem like he hardly ever shoots the 3 anymore

by albesir on Jul 14, 2010 12:26 PM EDT up reply actions

Dirk plays with his back to the basket yes.

but it always leads to a turnaround fadeaway jumper. He never bangs or uses his body to score in the paint.

Rufus On Fire
- where even the haters get a little love...or get dunked on by Gerald Wallace. Either one.

by maverick24 on Jul 14, 2010 12:28 PM EDT up reply actions

not really

he really likes to get that body contact and then spin around a guy really quick to get an open lane to the basket
and he’s not afraid to bang around as much anymore either, and actually works harder on the boards

I just thought it was interesting cause that’s really backwards as to what most bigs do. They have to eventually develop a mid-range shot or be able to shoot 3’s unless they’re one of the 2 or 3 dominant centers in the league

by albesir on Jul 14, 2010 12:32 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree about that being backwards to what bigs do.

And i probably shouldn’t have used the word never because when you are 7 ft you’re going to get beat up down low. Sorry about that. lol It just seems like everytime I watch Dirk he’s killing the Cats with a 12 ft turnaround fadeaway in Diaw’s mouth.

Rufus On Fire
- where even the haters get a little love...or get dunked on by Gerald Wallace. Either one.

by maverick24 on Jul 14, 2010 12:35 PM EDT up reply actions

you're right though

he does do most of his damage with his mid range game, it just strikes me as odd that he never takes 3’s….that would spread the floor and get either a slow tall guy out to the wing or he’d have a smaller player guarding him….

Also, when he seemed to all of a sudden go from “what’s defence” to an at least average defender all of a sudden is about the same time that the change happened

by albesir on Jul 14, 2010 12:45 PM EDT up reply actions

It's strange that he's shyed away from the 3 ball.

But maybe it just shows that as he has progressed he’s determined what his real strengths are and is just catering to those. Kind of a “I know what I can do, you do what you can do to stop me” mentality.

Panthers fans

espn just released nfl power rankings based on talent 25 and younger

Panthers are #2. here’s what they wrote:

There are currently 81 players on the Panthers roster, 58 of whom are either 25 or younger. That’s a sign of how salary cap issues and a veteran roster forced the team to throw a lot of young talent at the wall and see what sticks. The reality, though, is that the Panthers have both quality and quantity. Their best young player, of course, is middle linebacker Jon Beason, who deserves to be in the conversations about the league’s best linebackers. No middle linebacker — not even Patrick Willis — is better in coverage. Carolina had the league’s second-ranked pass defense last year by Football Outsiders numbers, and its oldest starter in the secondary is 27-year-old Chris Gamble. He’s the only one of their top six defensive backs older than 25. Defensive end Charles Johnson is 24, and by the end of the year, he’ll be starting across from 2009 second-rounder Everette Brown, who is 22. The offense, though, is Carolina’s more impressive young unit. Even without including Matt Moore, who turns 26 in August, there’s serious talent to be had. The star is halfback Jonathan Stewart, who is every bit the back DeAngelo Williams is, but struggles to stay healthy. The offensive line opening holes for Stewart and Williams is among the league’s best, and it features two elite young players in center Ryan Kalil and right tackle Jeff Otah. This year, they’ll be joined by guard Geoff Schwartz, who made it to our Top 25 Prospects list and profiles as another excellent masher in the running game. They’ve even got a viable receiving prospect in tight end Gary Barnidge. With Moore, Jimmy Clausen, and Tony Pike on the roster, they’ve got three guys to compete for the long-term answer at QB.

yeah, I feel

it’s all about team chemistry. Fox’s system is one that works really well with less talented players as long as the chemistry is there to know what your teammates will do in this situation or that. I think that goes for younger players that are a bit unpolished as well.

I think injuries that happen in o-lines anywhere in the league, and QB familiarity with recievers on certain teams exemplifies this.

I know everyone loves Gforce but if we have the Chance to get Chris Paul we have to do it. Chris Paul is a top 5 player in the NBA can you imagine how many tickets he will sell. And his contribution on the court will be that much bigger. We’ve never had a point guard that makes everyone around them better. Cp3 makes other guys jobs easier. CP3 and Okafor would give us a Celtic(08) type deffense. Paul will win us close games he will find open guys and make big shots. I love Gerald to but Chris makes us so much better on Offense and hes no scrub on D either.

There has to be another way

I really hope, if the FO really wants CP3, that they exhaust all options to keep Wallace in the deal. I’d love to see them on the break together. Call me selfish, but I’m not really concerned with ticket sells. Wallace wins games. I know CP3 (at 100%) will too, but…there just has a better option.

No way New Orleans is giving up David West....

Besides Paul, he is their best player, and besides they don’t have a good backup option for him like they do CP3

can I get some Wake Forest love here (and tough bastard love as well)?

by albesir on Jul 14, 2010 12:36 PM EDT up reply actions

although the games west has played without CP3 he really wasnt that good

CP3 makes or breaks that team as you can see by their record last yr. without CP3 david really isnt THAT good

by Fonz21 on Jul 14, 2010 12:44 PM EDT up reply actions

I've thought that for years

but it’s hard to prove, since the rest of the team tanks as well

if it were just West, I could understand, but everyone on the team gets worse without him. I still think David West is overrated, but I think Chris Paul just makes that team a whole lot better when he’s on the court.

I wanted to welcome you last night but with all of the data flying, I did not get the chance.

I just want to say that this Blog is probably more entertaining on a game night than most anything on television.

So…WELCOME and I hope you’re having some fun…

Would you like me to share our Player pics from last season, just so you know our humor?

by andrewlail76 on Jul 14, 2010 12:51 PM EDT up reply actions

it seems like a lot of fun

hopefully my interest doesn’t wan by the time the season starts. I’m not normally all that invested in anything that has to do with the NBA. I’ll try to pay attention to what’s going on in the season and I’ll try to watch as much of the playoffs as I can stand, but honestly I only watched about 6 regular season games last year….3 of them Bobcats games, and I watched almost all of the playoffs.

by albesir on Jul 14, 2010 12:56 PM EDT up reply actions

hope so

part of the problem is that I was a big Hornets fan, and when they left town it left that bitter taste in my mouth. I was a big Wake Forest fan, so I ended up pulling for any Deacons in the NBA, especially Tim Duncan. I went to a number of games at Wake when he was there, and I love his selfless attitude and loyalty to the team. I also pull for Songalia, who never had the talent but is a tough bastard that wont be pushed around and works harder than anybody. And of course Paul and Josh Howard, and lately James Johnson, Teague, Aminu, and Ish Smith (I hope he finds somewhere to play in the league, he is a lot of fun to watch).

Once the Bobcats were here, Bob Johnson just didn’t make me feel like being a fan. The early days, the FO seemed like a joke. It all kind of steered me away most of the time. Bot over the last year or so, I’ve been getting more and more interested, and I was always a fan of Wallace anyway. Now that Johnson’s gone and they aren’t Bob’s cats, I’m much more interested. Now if they get a Wake player I’ll really want to watch them (I’m still hoping they sign Ish as a backup guard. If he can work on his jump shot, he’s as fast as anybody in the NBA, and a good passer. It’s not all that likely in the near future, but I can hope).

That’s a short and ADHD version of my chronicles with the Bobcats…..

by albesir on Jul 14, 2010 1:43 PM EDT up reply actions

That is a sum up of most stories pertaining to fans of the team.

We all eventually come around. I don’t think I would be the only one saying that the Hornets franchise left us all feeling cheated.

Just got off the phone with my guy in Charlotte:

This is what he’s hearing:

- Things are crazy right now, not just because of whatever is being worked on in Vegas but because since acquiring Erick Dampier the phone is ringing off the hook with teams interested in making a trade for him.

- He has heard about several deals, but wagers that much of what is being circulated even around their offices could be misinformation, there are certain trades the Bobcats WANT to be leaked so whatever the ‘big deal’ is will be written off as another rumor. In retrospect this is what happened to the Calderon deal, it was intentionally leaked to throw people off the Dallas deal, but Toronto are enraged because they weren’t in on the joke.

- I told him what I had heard from my source in NY, and he said that while he had heard parts of what I was saying he had not heard about the scope of what I heard (and Ourday did). He said this wasn’t uncommon when something was actually happening and told me how quite regularly.

- He still claims that people in the organization are being told that everything will be sorted ‘by the end of the week’, but told me that in his opinion there was no chance the Bobcats just cut Dampier for cap relief, because there are too many trades being worked right now.

and pretty much every team in the league would want his contract

I wonder how Dampier feels

knowing that his contract is FAR more valuable to most teams than he actually is as a basketball player. Oh well, I’m glad he’s our dangling carrot…for now.

Also

The Cats aren’t saying no to anyone about Dampier. They’re still hoping for phase 3 and 4 but things won’t be bleak if it all falls apart. Most options opening up will make us better but not quite as good as the original deal. The upside is it’s likely we won’t cough up Wallace unless it’s an incredible deal.

I was also told the Knicks have called 4 times with different packages and the Nets are hot on their heels with at least 2 or 3 calls as well.

a couple questions from a growing nc nba fan (lifetime hockey fan)
1. why is dampiers contract so valuable?
2.what are the nba news breaking twitter @names to follow for BOBCATS?

"a bit of love"

by chrisj on Jul 14, 2010 2:12 PM EDT reply actions

1. Dampier’s contract is so valuable because it isn’t guaranteed. So, for a team trying to save money can give away $13 million to Charlotte, then cut Dampier and not need to pay him a cent. Allowing them to sign other free agents, or be cheap.
