Trade speculation overflow page

This is what happens when you read the HoopsHype rumors page too closely.

-- Jeff Bower is out as Hornets GM. No wonder New Orleans wasn't getting any deals done.

-- I submit to you a trade scenario that I've pulled out of thin air, but that thrills me to the core: Gerald Wallace to Portland. Brandon Roy to Charlotte. Why else would the Blazers offer such a big contract to Wesley Matthews? Portland's long coveted Wallace, and they could be thinking there's a real problem with Roy's knee.

-- Of course, there's also the possibility that Michael Jordan doesn't actually care about the luxury tax, and trades Erick Dampier's contract and another first round pick that we couldn't possibly use no way no sir to Cleveland for Anderson Varejao and Mo Williams. (Another variation involving Philadelphia)

-- And have we all forgotten that Boris Diaw is destined to end up in New York with Mike D'Antoni? Have we?

-- Brett from Queen City Hoops gathered some reactions to today's crazy action. My comment starts: "After back-of-the-envelope calculations, it looks like this is a salary dump meant to keep the Bobcats away from the luxury tax." Click through to read the rest.

-- Use this as the overnight trade speculation overflow page.

Going with the Hornets

Zo, LJ, and Muggsy because it was the last time Charlotte had a great big man (men) and a great pg

Muggsy and Zo had more heart than just about any other player I’ve seen play.

I won

Beat Robinson and the Spurs 49-46
My statline: 22 points, 11 assists, 16 steals, 7 blocks (coulda sworn I had more), and 10 rebounds

Halftime stats

10 points, 7 assists, 8 steals, 7 blocks, 4 rebounds

My gameplan is as follows: I’ve played as kemp for the whole half so I’ll rest him in the third quarter. I’ll switch to sigh Detlef Schrempf. I sigh because he’s slower than Shaq eating a party sub. Anyhoo, this will allow me to get my assists over 10 and hopefully get some blocks, which is impossible with GP. Constantly passing will allow me to get lots of rebounds. In the 4th, I’ll go back to a rested kemp. I’ll try to get on fire so I can block an infinite number of shots. Hopefully I’ll end up with a quintuple double.

Wouldn't really care for the Cleveland trade

I think both of those guys are very solid, but are at their peak. They make the team better, but I don’t think by much. Also, Varejao isn’t really a center either, even though he can kind of guard most centers decently.

Somehow the Diaw trade there seems perfect. D’Antoni gets Diaw, Bobcats get Beasley, and the Wolves….who cares about the Wolves?

And I think I’d also probably want G Wallace over Roy. Unless he was giftwrapped with Marcus Camby on the side. Man I’d love to get Camby.

by albesir on Jul 13, 2010 10:44 PM EDT reply actions

yes, but

Diaw can play SF. And if D’Antoni wanted Diaw bad enough, maybe he could get everyone else to follow along. I mean, look at the stuff he’s done there so far, and he’s still the coach

by albesir on Jul 13, 2010 11:00 PM EDT up reply actions

someone probably would've given him something similar

the Knicks were the only ones who guaranteed the full 100, but if he had waited till after the big 3 had signed, he might have gotten the same offer from the Bulls and Nets. I think everyone except the Knicks knew better than to guarantee all 5 years.

I’m not really wild about any of those trade scenarios but, we cannot afford to do nothing. This team, as of the Dallas trade, will not make the playoffs. Much less contend for the East.

Trade idea....

Heat get: Dampier, Diaw, Diop, and Jax
Bobcats get: Wade, James, Bosh

Seems possbile , no?

by Aisander D on Jul 13, 2010 11:13 PM EDT reply actions

We might want to keep JAX

instead throw in Matt Carroll and a 2nd round pick and you’ve got a deal

by Ft.Mill Bobcat on Jul 13, 2010 11:14 PM EDT up reply actions

I think that might cause Pat Riley's arties to clog upon contact.

The Bobs could be then sued for tampering and the trade revoked.

Why don’t we sign Larry Hughes to a 13 million non-guaranteed contract? It is a win-win we can either trade him for something worthwhile or we can enjoy releasing the overpaid bastard and owe him nothing.

Part 4 could blow up.

From what I was told, a lot of progress was made on step 3 thus far and it may go to the league for approval as early as tomorrow noonish.

The team involved in the final move is getting pissy with MJ. Apparently the Cats now want a conditional first round thrown in and the ___________________ are insisting it be a 2nd rounder in 2012/13

James usually hears from his person about 10 minutes ahead of my contacts.

Then all of a sudden one of us will get an “oh crap” from a source followed by absolutely nothing. It’s like all contacts going out of the Bobbies’ offices go dead.

Then the mushroom clouds start appearing suddenly a couple of hours later.

Uhm guys?

I’ve been told paperwork will be hitting the NBA offices tomorrow morning for approval. It’s grab your nuts time.

It doesn’t look like anything is going to be announced tonight. Grab a rack and start counting sheep in little Bobcats road uniforms.

The more savvy of you will have a very good idea about step 4 the moment step 3 gets announced.
Just a teaser so you’ll know if we’ve been right thus far…

If it goes down as I last heard about it, we won’t be picking in the first round for 2 more seasons and for a brief while we will be almost completely bereft of a starter or backup at one of the positions until step 4 is final. Like I said, the more savvy of you will know what the Cats are trying to pull off once the player names are announced.

The ballsiest part of these deals

Is that each one increases our options for other arrangements if the next one doesn’t go through.
If 3 does happen though, I guarantee there is nowhere to really go if 4 falls apart.

4 is the eyespopping tonguehanging wolf in a Tex Avery cartoon face making deal.

Not screwed.

But the final piece of the big puzzle (that was born all the way back in Miami 8 months ago) is so big that there is nothing else to match it. We’ll still wind up with quite a bit of coin to play with – but nowhere comparable to spend it.

Step 4 is almost a lock though once 3 is done. Step 3 has been the “iffy” part of all this from the get-go.

by Ourdaywillcome on Jul 14, 2010 1:35 AM EDT up reply actions

Morning all. Bobcats news hasn't leaked, but this tweet sheds some light on how this whole thing got constructed:
New twist in the Ajinca trade saga. There is a good chance that Dallas is not his final destination.

I will say there is a certain degree of transparency between owners who respect each other. Charlotte knows whatever Dallas is going to get for a deal including Ajinca, but I am not sure if Dallas know what Charlotte has planned.
