Could we see Gerald Wallace play for Team USA?

According to ESPN's Chris Sheridan, many of the NBA's superstars and members of the '08 Olympic team are dropping out from joining Team USA's roster for the World Championships this summer. Those players include LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade, Dwight Howard, Chris Bosh, Chris Paul, Carmelo Anthony, Deron Williams, Carlos Boozer and Tayshaun Prince.

More after the jump.

Star-divide

So what superstars does this leave?

Kevin Durant (SF), Amar'e Stoudemire (PF-C), David Lee (PF), Chauncey Billups (PG), Rajon Rondo (PG), Rudy Gay (SF), Danny Granger (SF), Brook Lopez (C), Derrick Rose (PG), Tyreke Evans (PG-SG), Stephen Curry (PG-SG), and Andre Iguodala (SG).

I would have put Gerald Wallace (SF) on that list as well, but Sheridan leaves him on the bubble as well as the following players: Lamarcus Aldridge (PF), Robin Lopez (C), Eric Gordon (SG), OJ Mayo (SG), Jeff Green (PF), Kevin Love (PF), and Al Jefferson (PF).

Seriously? Is Robin Lopez really on the same level as the rest of those guys? I think not.

Anyway, this is probably the best chance for Gerald to get on the US team. I think I speak for all of us when I say I hope he makes it.

Actually...

…I’m not too sure I want him to make it (or at least not receive much playing time), for the same reasons that I was really happy with his nearly non-existent role in this past February’s All Star game. Call me selfish, but I want Crash’s energy and reckless abandon reserved for the Bobcats’ upcoming season, not Team USA.

I mean, really…Miami Thrice (I gotta admit, I love that nickname) dropped out. Wallace is not quite as spry and full of youthful exuberance as he once was. I sincerely hope the next time I see him break a sweat, it will be in late October.

i hear that

I’d rather he sit out and save his energy for the ridiculous amount of minutes he’ll play during the season.

I’d only like to see Wallace if he is willing to do more than go through the motions. I was thrilled when he was named an All-Star, but fairly disappointed in his effort.

Guys! We're about to make a trade for Al Jefferson

Wallace’s vacation plans shouldn’t be on our list of things to talk about. We need to be speculating when the Jefferson trade will go down!

You’re welcome!

I didn't think Robin was up for grabs...

is he? I thought James was just responding to WhatAboutBob’s inquiry of whsether R. Lopez belonged in the group of the others who pulled out of Team USA…

I want Gerald to make it, but I'm worried about it

wearing him down before the season. That being said, I think he has a great chance to make it b/c of his versatility, intangibles, defense and rebounding.

I'd watch

I would watch more of their games if Gerald plays but would prefer he rest.
