Bargain free agents
I posted a FanShot about Randy Foye earlier, but there was a stream of stories that I came across that deserve their own full post on the subject. Basically, there are a stream of cheap free agents that the Bobcats could sign with their exceptions that could help a lot.
I'm constantly amazed at how much Barnes is underestimated. Sure, his type is all over the league (see: Jamario Moon, Dominic McGuire, et al), but do any of them do it with his tattoo per minute rate? Or his scowl per minute?

Wizards Make Randy Foye an Unrestricted Free Agent -- NBA FanHouse
Here's the Randy Foye piece again. I'm unsure of his defensive reputation at this point, but it hardly seems crazy to think the Bobcats can get a PG who's Raymond Felton's equal for less money. Foye could be it, but it'd be crazy to jump for him too quickly.
Who else is on your free agency wish list?
Complete list of free agents here.
And after the jump, James's comment, which was deleted with the Foye FanPost.
Here is my short list:
- Patty Mills (restricted): Sign him to a cheap offer sheet and I doubt Portland will match. I’ll scream it from the rooftops till I’m hoarse he’s going to be very, very good when someone gives him a chance and Larry Brown could do amazing things with the little Aussie PG.
- Chris Duhon: Will likely command more than the Bobcats are willing to pay, but he’s a smart pass first PG who made something out of nothing in New York.
- Nathan Jawai (restricted): My love of the Aussies continues, and Jawai is an upgrade over some of our backup big men. He’s young, he’s under developed but he’s powerful and I believe LB could coach him up. Again, sign him to a cheap offer sheet and I doubt Minnesota will match.
- Steve Blake: A stopgap solution to be sure, but if he’s cheap then I don’t think there are much better stopgaps at PG.
- Brendan Haywood: Could be more expensive than we’re willing to pay, but he is a upgrade at the 5 spot.

Flip Murray, Drew Gooden, Steve Blake, Jamaal Tinsley, Rafer Alston, Luke Ridnour,
Chris Duhon, Eddie House, Matt Barnes, Amir Johnson, Kyle Korver, Mike Miller, and Randy Foye are all UFA that I think the Bobcats should consider picking up.

Man...
That is quite a list, I’d definitely take Eddie House, I always liked him from Boston, had they had him this year, they might would have beat the Lakers, he’s instant offense off the bench! Mike Miller or Kyle Korver would be my next choice.
Yeah, I'd probably take Murray or Miller over them all since they seem to be the most consistent.
But I wouldn’t mind seeing Eddie House in a Bobcats uniform again.

We don't need Eddie House back.
He was fun while he lasted, but he wanted to leave.

I'm not sure why his name keeps popping up as a potential free agent signing
He is a short combo guard who more often than not is a defensive liability. He had a good run in Boston, but I cannot see him replicating his performance with the Celtics elsewhere.

So when do you think everything will begin? Thursday morning? Friday? Ans I don’t mean us…I mean when LeBron finally says, and the NBA world can begin again.

Not to mention the dreaded "Tobacoo Road" virus
He seems highly susceptible to this illness, and side effects of the “treatment” include missing the next day’s early morning shootaround. Not sure if Henderson has had his booster shot yet, but I don’t think it’s worth the risk.
To backup my Patty Mills love:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9NKhiDdOAtw I like this video because it shows all of his playing time vs. Phoenix in the playoffs, not just a highlight reel… so you get a better sense of his game.

I agree with the Patty Mills pick up.
He is quality, let us not forget that he has already proven he can play against the best in the NBA during the Olympics a couple years ago.
WHAT?!
Tyson realized he’s not going to make $12 million by heading to free agency? SHOCK… HORROR!
This is actually better. The Nuggets are having a hard time getting a commitment from Carmelo Anthony and now a big expiring contract will be very valuable to a team looking to try and get ’Melo.

Agreed
I almost see it as a win-win situation. If he left, we have wiggle room this season. If he stayed, he really started looking good towards the end and in the playoffs. A summer of work and he should be starting again and contributing. If not, lots of teams are trying to cut costs. Trade deadline he could be a valuable business piece.
Shooters, shooters, shooters
I still think that’s our biggest need. Who are the best shooters of the bunch?

Nate Robinson might fit this role???
One of the best perimeter shooters in this FA.
Al Harrington also can score, has played with Jack, and fits LB’s mold of being able to get to the free throw line.

Meh?
Nate Robinson is a scorer, not a shooter. He’s 35% for his career, which isn’t awful, but I don’t think he fits the mold of the shooter we need. Al Harrington is too much of a ball hog and we have enough of that with Jax. Love having him, but we can’t have another similar player.
Best shooter out there is probably Korver, but he’s an MLE type guy and we probably can’t afford him. Anthony Morrow is a dead-eye as well.
39% from 3. You won't find much better than that.
And with our lack of star power, he could score in other ways and be a perimeter guy. Not sure why a perimeter shooter he can’t do anything else is preferable.

Career 35%
Korver is a career 41%, for the season he was 53%
Morrow is a career 46%
Steve Novak is career 43%
Mike Miller is career 40%
Anthony Parker is career 42%
I could go on with role player 3-point shooters.
53% is pretty impressive
But for his career Nate’s averaged 2 more ppg in slightly less mpg. He also averages more assists and steals, and had one AllStar appearance. Again, I’m not sure why a sole perimeter shooter is a better option than a guy who is a good shooter and can score in other ways.

Also, let's not forget we're talking about free agents

I could see Rudy Gay potentially flourishing under LB
Though not really a bargain… He can score, and could probably be a good defender too after LB coaches him up. I think he’s sometimes looked at like a failure because he hasn’t become a go-to guy. But in Charlotte he wouldn’t need to be.

He's going to command a lot of money
Not max level, but more than we can offer. It’s also rumored that Minnesota and Memphis may be looking at a sign a trade scenario with Gay to the Wolves for Al Jefferson

I heard..
That Portland just waived Ryan Gomes, this guy averaged about 11pts a game off the bench, don’t know much about him, just saying…
Super excited to see that Nathan Jawai will be playing for the Bobcats in the summer league
Keep an eye on him folks… he could be very special with the right coaching staff in place. He’s been mostly riding the pine for Toronto and Minnesota, but with a teacher like Larry Brown he could really flourish.
