Ridiculous Upside: NBA Summer League Rosters
Gerald Henderson, Derrick Brown, and Alexis Ajinca will all be with the Summer League team. However, point guard will probably provide the most intrigue, since those guys are all probably competing for a spot with the big club: Sherron Collins, Denis Clemente, and Jeremy Pargo.

Is that the same pargo that played for Chi and NO?
If it is, I believe he will have the edge on the rooks.
Also, Shannon Brown opted out…anyone want him back?
Washington is choosing not to offer Randy Foye his qualifying offer? I would take him as our starting point guard…He was nice in fantasy last year for a while but received inconsistent minutes.
Jeremy Pargo is Chicago Bull Jannero Pargo's brother

I like how his wikipedia page lists one of his facts as being on the Sports Illustrated March Madness cover in 2009, as if that cover isn’t annually a collage of tons of players, mascots, and cheerleaders.
Nevertheless, he was the WCC player of the year in 08

Shannon Brown doesn't bring anything to the Cats that would make the team appreciably better
Charlotte is pretty set at the shooting guard position. I don’t know anything about the younger Pargo. I hope he is better than his brother. I hope the Cats add at least one more center to the roster. Jannero is too erratic for me.

Maybe I'm blind to the truth
but I haven’t seen Shannon Brown do anything better than Hendo, except get playing time

Hoopsworld had Torrance on the Bobs...
Who knows?
With such a bitter ending to the USA's World Cup run
And the NFL still a ways off… I’m almost tempted to watch the Summer league

Did someone say World Cup?
Just out of curiosity…
How much of the team’s failure to advance do you blame Coach Bradley for?
Do you think he’ll be the coach a year from now?
How long do you think it will be before FIFA begins allowing replay reviews of goals?
Team USA entered the Cup Tourney ranked 15 globally. I think they could have easily made it to the quarterfinals, but overall they ended the run right about where their rankings indicated they would. My first soccer coach was a Brazilian from their 1966 national team and I still have a soft spot for both Brasil and Argentinia because of it so I still have plenty to be excited about, but the time is coming when the USA men’s side will take their place as true international contenders right alongside our outstanding women’s team. I just don’t think Coach Bradley is the man to take us to the next level. He disrupted the chemistry of the team with his starting lineup in the final game and had to waste 2 of our 3 substitutions in the first half to correct that error. A large part of success at the World Cup takes place before either team walks out on the pitch and Coach Bradley’s pregame planning was constantly digging us a hole to fight back out of. You can’t win long at that level if you come out as ill prepared as Team USA was for each game. I don’t blame it all on the Coach, but I do think he was a major factor.
Sorry for the digression y’all. PLease resume your regularly scheduled arguments over Mr. Naismith’s grand creation.

Replays won't be allowed until FIFA gets a new president
It seems like everyone want it but him. It’s so bad now it’s just ridiculous.
I root for the US team by default, but Ghana damn sure earned their win Saturday.
I don't think it will change either
It seems a no brainer to us. But other countries are so use to it. Even the official’s ability to make wack calls with no explanation is totally normal in the top European leagues.

I think Bradley is about 80% responsible for the loss
(disclaimer: I am not too into soccer but I used to play and I enjoy playing – I’m just not a big fan of watching)
My reasons for the above opinion is detailed in the following article http://g.sports.yahoo.com/soccer/world-cup/blog/dirty-tackle/post/Being-coached-by-Bob-Bradley-finally-catches-up-?urn=sow,251589

Bradley has to be held accountable
It was said he’d definitely be gone if we didn’t make it out of the group round. So he barely made it out, then collapsed the very next game… What’s the big difference? He has arguably 2 of the best players in USA’s history… Donovan and Dempsey, and he had an easy path through the 1st 2 knockout rounds. Yet we never dominated and fell behind early in nearly every game.
I don’t understand his personnel decisions either. Buddle and Gomez have been constantly finding the back of the goal in international play… Yet Findley is starting? Can anybody remember Findley ever doing anything? I can’t name a single one of his strengths.
Donovan and Howard got us out of the 1st round, NOT Bradley. He’s got to go. And tanks for letting me vent :)

Wow, what a nice surprise!
I didn’t expect to get such varied and knowledgable responses. I thought I was the only soccer junkie in the howse.
I disagree a slight bit regarding Howard. I’m seeing a visible slowing of his reflexes on a year-to-year comparison and I think he’s past his peak. We really need to be developing a strong backup that can take his place.
I also have some issue with Demerit at fullback. He was badly out of position on a regular basis and Howard was on him like LB on Augustin (see, I CAN wrestle this back on topic!) during most of the qualifiers.
I was pleasantly surprised by Bradley’s son. I thought his presence on the team was blatant nepotism but he acquited himself quite well.
BTW, for those with an interest in such matters, I am working with the US Soccer Federation (in a VERY minor capacity) to organize a push to FIFA to bring the men’s cup tourney to the United States in 2018 so if you have any suggestions on assembling an attractive bid, shoot me an email or a Facebook message.

Okay then
(stepping to the podium)
Hi, my name is Ourday and I… I… I’m ignorant as hell about the NBA Summer League
HI OURDAY!
I thought summer ball was an opportunity for players to keep their skills sharp and their competitive spirit fed. I thought it was a chance for players with question marks over their heads because of nagging injury or a bad season to dispell the concerns of management. I thought summer ball was an opportunity for NBA management to go shopping for a cheap bench player.
I’ll admit it. I never looked at it, I just ASSUMED. I also assumed that summer ball lasted for weeks on end… right up to training camp in fact. I was gonna look into going to some of the games because I was eager to get a first-hand look at the progress of Henderson and Anjinca.
Now I’ve heard all kinds of things about just how silly I’ve been. I’ve heard it only lasts a week or so. I’ve heard it’s played so far from Charlotte that you can actually smell the oil from the Gulf spill. I’ve heard there are hard limits and restrictions on player eligibility like you can’t play unless you’re in the first 3 years of an NBA contract (or hunting for one as a walk-on.)
Oh me.
Can someone take me aside and patiently explain to me the truth and purposes of this elusive Will O The Wisp?
What’s the point if it’s only for a week or so? How many games get played? I’m told admitting the problem is half of the battle so I already feel halfway better and confession is good for the soul. Hopefully all the egg on my face will help my complexion too.
Won’t you help? Dig deep so that I and others like me can be free of the curse of NBA confusion. I’m not asking you to kill David Stern or anything, just provide an explaination. Although now that I’ve mentioned it… nah, never mind. I’m sure it’s been tried already and he’s just too slippery.

I don't claim to be an authority
but my understanding of summer league (the orlando league does only last a week) is for young players, especially newly drafted players, to get playing time in the system that their team plays. It’s a basicly a league to get these guys extra coaching while simulating game experience.
The secondary purpose is finding bench talent from the crop of undrafted FAs and D leaguers. Again you want to see how these guys fit in your respective system.
The orlando magic website broadcast their games each year
The anouncers, Dante and Galante, are fun to listen to, but generally pay little attention to the game. The camera work is done by volunteers from the local highschool A/V club.
I would love for it to be a bigger production, but this time of year I just take would I can get.
I've watched it the past 2 years
Very amateur broadcast for sure, kinda hard to make out players at times. But it’s free, it’s basketball, and it’s fun. It’s basically glorified, organized scrimmages. NBA TV is supposed to be doing something with it this year so I wonder if a little more money will be dumped into the production.
If my sarcastic comment sparked this from Ourday then I feel my work is done!!
Now please continue discussing international soccer…
I'm sorry Aisander
As long as there are people ignorant of the Summer League your work will not be done.
Wherever people question the veracity of the modified zone in the NBA your work will not be done.
While the world continues to break into individual discussion groups to analyze Lebron’s breakfast to see if it indicates what team he’s favoring in his Free Agent decisions, you work will not be done.
No my friend, I fear you won’t be able to rest on your laurels any time soon. So put the mask, cape, and tights back on and get to work!
(sorry, couldn’t resist)

What about the Triad?
Greensboro, Winston Salem, High Point…What’s not to love?
I love following the US's national team
For the first time this August, I’m going to try to follow the English Premier League. I’ll probably follow Fulham since Dempsey’s there. I’d really love to see Fulham or Everton (where Howard plays) pick up Donovan or Altidore, because I want to pull for a team with some strong US players on it.
Do you follow any of the European leagues/teams?
You’re probably right about Howard being on the decline, but he still made some nice saves. And finding Donovan quickly on that OT goal vs Slovenia was crucial. Plus his leadership will be hard to replace.
