Matt Barnes

Just got one of those ESPN text messages saying that he will opt out of his contract to become a free agent this summer.

Although I don't see him in a Bobcats uniform, this creates one of the most expensive summers in my day. Never have I seen so many people go after money like it was going out of style (which, with this economy, may be a true simile and scenario)

Barnes may not DESERVE the kind of contract that he will get, but it's hard to disprove that when you start on a championship caliber team, play great defense, and even piss-off Kobe Bryant. Got to respect his defensive game.

But allow me to enter Rosterbation mode for one second:

If Barnes came to Charlotte, he would add a very nice and reliable backup SF to Gerald, and play stellar defense. That way, the best defensive team in the NBA just got better. Add Barnes attitude to Jax's and you have a very potent defense. Also, if you have Jax, Wallace, and Barnes on the floor at the same time, Barnes is enough to make defenses think twice about double teaming Jax or Wallace. I mean, the man can hit an open 3.

I foresee a future where Matt Barnes pulls a Hedo and follows the money.

he definitely will go for the money.

i believe that the only reason he signed for a vet minimum (that was his salary, right?) was because he thought the magic were primed to make a trip to the finals and have a chance to win it all. however, with that said, i’d want him in a bobcats uniform as well. more toughness, more attitude (not something this team is high on), but he is also just an average three point shooter. part of his shooting percentage is due to the offensive system of the Magic, and there won’t be cleaner looks from the Bobcats system.

Hedo wants out of toronto as well.

Bad contract, good player.

For some reason I see us getting Hedo

I wouldn’t like it…but I can LB pushing to get him since he can play multiple positions and even some point. I know LB loves him some 6’10 point guard.

About Barnes though

I see him getting a big contract cause of his play with the magic…yes he is a good defender and could give Crash some much needed rest but do we really want a 30 yr old defender that can’t really score on a long contract??? We already have JAX making around 10 million when hes like 35 or 36. I say we give Derrick Brown some time instead of signing or trading for someone like Barnes…now only if LB can play DB…sigh
