Orlando outscored Atlanta by 101 points in their second straight series sweep. I'm not much for reveling in another team's misery (unless their name is the Dallas Cowboys), but I took some solace in the Hawks' "performance" against the Magic. While going four and out is nothing to write home about, I think we should all hold our heads just a tad bit higher after witnessing how the uncrowned NBA champions (yep) fared against their second round opponents, and looking back at how much of a fight we put up in retrospect.
Orlando beat Atlanta by 43 points in their first game. In our 4 straight losses to Orlando, we lost by a combined 37 points, and kept it within single digits in all but one game.
Orlando never reached 100 against Charlotte, whereas they only failed to top triple digits in game 4 of the Atlanta series.
Against us, Superman never really took flight. 26 minutes per game, constant foul trouble (he fouled out twice), 9.7 PPG, 9.2 RPG. Pedestrian numbers, one man block party notwithstanding.
Against the Hawks, he never fouled out (only reaching 5 fouls once), 37 minutes each game, 21 PPG, 10.7 RPG. No kyrptonite deposits found in Georgia.
The bottom line is that Atlanta fans got to see their team play 7 more games than I saw of my Bobcats, and both teams shared the identical fate of being handed a quick 4 & out by the eventual NBA champs (yep). Still, I can't help but feel a little better about our defensive efforts against Orlando's offensive arsenal.
