Charlotte Bobcats thump Atlanta Hawks 109-100

The Charlotte Bobcats dominated the Atlanta Hawks from the opening tip. Even though the Hawks had stretches of excellence, the game was never seriously in doubt after the first five minutes, as the Cats won going away, 109-100. Throughout, Atlanta looked out of sorts and out of rhythm, probably because neither Joe Johnson nor Mike Bibby played at all.

Gerald Wallace led the barrage with 22 points in the first half, but Boris Diaw played the most complete game for Charlotte, nearly putting up the franchise's first-ever triple-double. It was the Bobcats' 30th home win of the season and 41st overall, guaranteeing at least a .500 finish.

Game thread comments, lowlights, and highlights after the jump.

GAME THREAD COMMENTS

Ft.Mill Bobcat -- Larry Hughes is close to a triple single tonight. 2 points and 1 assist. All that he needs is a rebound.

StudMuffin15 -- Since Tyson shaved, can we expect Baron Davis to do the same?

BAD

-- Tell me, again, what Larry Hughes has done the past two-plus seasons to deserve 17 minutes on a playoff team?

-- There's nothing I hate more at sporting events than The Wave. For a few minutes in the fourth quarter, fans in the Cable Box screamed and did that most vile of crowd activities. Maybe it's because I grew up a San Francisco Giants fan, and Giants fans actively heckle anyone who tries to start The Wave in their ballpark, but to me, it's an indication  that the people doing it don't actually care about the game at hand and would rather entertain themselves.

GOOD

-- The Cats played some exceptional offense, shooting 51% from the field, 58% from three, and 88% from the free throw line.

-- Boris Diaw was at the center of everything, it seemed like. He ended the game with 17 points, 9 rebounds, and 9 assists.

-- Gerald Wallace was dominant in the first half, and merely excellent the rest of the game, scoring 28 points on 18 attempts.

-- Tyson Chandler had a monster game, scoring 12  points on 4 attempts, with 8 rebounds, all in only 31 minutes.

-- Don't forget D.J. Augustin, who chipped in 11 points on 4-4 shooting from the field and 3-3 from the line.

my playoff thougnts:

if we man up and the Bucks man-down, we can get 6th seed.

IF we get 6th seed, we line up with our best match up: the Hawks.

i truly think and believe that if we were to play a 7 game series, we could take the Hawks. it’d take all 7 games, but we’d sneak out with a W.

all oppose, say nay.

If the Hawks keep getting hurt..

They’ll ruin they’re own run. Zaza was sidelined with a Hip pointer last night. Add that to Joe and Mike and they’re in some trouble.

Solid

Raymond continues to have a stellar year. 6 of 10 from the field, 6 assists, 2 blocked shots, 1 steal and 1 turnover. Ran the offense beautifully. Played excellent defense.

The Wave is fun if the crowd does The Matrix Wave

And people move their arms back slowly as if they are Neo dodging bullets.

the wave should only be appropriate when distracting opponents shooting free throws

I see what David is saying and I would have to agree

F*** Clay Bennett. And Charlotte thinks George Shinn is a douchebag.

i was part of it and I really enjoyed it

I will take Charlotte embracing this team and having fun even if it does come in the form of the wave. We were up by 15 anyways.

Good win

I wasn’t able to catch the game tonight, but I’m glad we etched another W.

Almost there folks.

So what are Gerald Henderson and Derrick Brown up to these days?

Being inactive must feel like spring break!!! Just like in college!!

Well, Gerald got himself a mini-vacation.

Coach gave him a couple of days off to attend the NCAA Final and hang out with other Duke Alumni.
LB even made comments to the media saying he told Henderson he wasn’t really needed at the moment anyway.

Fun fact.

The Hawks have 49 wins. The last time the team had 50 wins they lost in the first round of the playoffs to Charlotte.

Just sayin..

According to NBA TV.

I love this video. The crowd, the dogpile at midcourt, the cheerleaders joining in, the kid in the hornets sweatsuit from head to toe who oddly is not all that excited. I love all of it. And yes that is Steve martin.

I, for one, love the wave

Makes me feel young again. It’s way better than the kiss cam or the show your muscles cam or any of the other ridiculous camera things they do are. I hate those. At lease the wave is fan created showing their enthusiasm. Basically I hate the NBA atmosphere these days and wish it would be more fan driven than hype man/create camera/loud rap music (I do love loud music, and rap music, just not at the game) driven.

I don't mind the wave, but I LOVE the kiss cam.

The first time I was there a guy reached for a quick handfull of boob during the kiss cam and got his face slapped right on the Jumbotron. I missed the next 3 minutes of the game because I was still laughing too hard to concentrate on the action! I finally spotted where the couple was sitting and his sweet and genteel gem of a lass was barking at him about it the rest of the night, complete with the cliche’d side-to-side “oh no you di-in’t!” head moves.

It would have been worth the scolding.

Walking out of the arena… “there he goes… dude got to second base in front of 10,000 people.”

LMAO

I was at the game and I was having nothing to do with the Wave. Not to be a hater i just like to watch the game. Did you guys see the guy stripping for his dinner Hillarious The dance moves you see at the Cable Box are classic. I agree with the Kiss cam the Kiss Rejection is one of the great moments of public humiliation.
