BDL: The Charlotte Bobcats? Gone 'Til November
Via QCH, Kelly Dwyer says a lot of stuff familiar to longtime Rufus on Fire readers.
Don't feel sorry for these guys because this is exactly what they wanted. The Bobcats have been making moves for years based on breaking through to the postseason, even as it became obvious their time in the Playoff Lounge would last for about a week and a half, at best. This month was the culmination of several years' worth of work, and I hope they dug it. Because this is it. It truly is.

Note that Kelly Dwyer penciled us in for 19 wins at the beginning of the season.

But Dwyer is a damn idiot
If the Bobcats pass 30 wins again, especially with Bell out for four months, he deserves to be Coach of the Year. But he also deserves this lot. He made this bed.
Prediction: 19-63
Yes, I know. The Bobcats team is much different than it was when he wrote that preview. Still, that doesn’t really matter because teams are going to make trades and every dedicated nba follower knows this. So, let’s look at Dwyer’s analysis of the Jackson trade, since that is obviously that was the trade this season with the most impact.
the Bobcats will start actively looking to deal him by February.
Good call. I remember that happening! No wait, no. I don’t.
the deal just makes absolutely no sense for Charlotte.
Did beating his expected win estimate by 15 make no sense?
But the Bobcats are now on the hook to pay Jackson more than $10 million in 2013 when he’s 35. And you know what? They deserve to…for making this moronic deal
Jackson begged for, hoped for, demanded and welcomed this hell. This Bobcat hell. And this tells you all you need to know about Stephen Jackson, and everything you need to understand about Don Nelson.
Such a deal.
What basketball insight this guy has.

So it took less than a week for it all to turn negative again.
I remember what I found when I got here last year. Everyone was (still) screaming about the Okafor deal and talking doom. Slowly – oh God SO slowly – the few positive voices that refused to get shouted down began to find others that shared the hope, the team surpassed many early predictions before the new year began and suddenly this became a site of optimism. We knew the weaknesses and screamed about them. We knew the strengths and revelled in them. The Charlotte Bobcats defied everyone and reached the playoffs.
Less than a week ago I saw 17 thousand people decked in white and screaming louder than anything I’ve heard in pro ball. Less than a week ago we all shared a moment of pure joy and celebration.
And now everything is back to negativity and doom. Brown is leaving! We have bad contracts! The end is near! We’re doomed!
So this is what it’s like to be a Charlotte fan? The Bobcats are just now getting to the point where the soreness and bruises of game 4 are fading away. The first decision of the off season hasn’t even been made yet. There are still crews cleaning the celebration detritus up from the floor of the Cable Box.
And the pundits and “fans” are already writing off the entire next season.
Damn. I guess the first helping of crow wasn’t heaped high enough on the plate. Well, the naysayers can get a second helping next April. I won’t be among them. I’m staying on the Bobcats Victory diet.

Lets get negative about the fact that we had a great season and got beat by a championship caliber team in the playoffs.
By my book that’s a good thing. At least we didn’t lose to the Bulls or some mess.

THANK YOU!
What is everybody’s deal? You’re going to put over 4 games after we just spent an entire season reaching new highs? I’m just as pissed as anyone else we got swept, but after a few days to let it set in. I’m so grateful to have been a part of our first playoff season. Also, no offense, but is this how we expect to keep members around? Being super pouty and being all depressed about it? Cuz if this is the new ROF then I’ll be posting somewhere else because I have no intentions in dealing with sore losers.
We have a ton to look forward to next season. A TEAM to build on. Vets to lead the way. Our first playoffs under our belt. Young talent still developing. We’ve got nowhere to go but up from here. I’m stoked, and you all should be too.

Agreed
I don’t think many RoF members have gone negative. I think the overall feeling is a mix from:
(1) Magic fans pissing in our Cornflakes,
(2) Handpicked articles from sensationalism journalists (Philly, the one above, Observer),
(3) and a small number of RoFers who want to trade everyone after a bad game.
I still say look at what we have accomplished, especially in 2010, make some tweaks to improve what we have, but don’t overhaul a good thing. 2011 is going to be great.

I've only been around for a couple of weeks...
…are the naysayers newcomers like me, who might have just been fair weather fans? Or are they longtime members of RoF with half empty beer mugs?
At any rate, I plan on sticking around. It’s the best and most active forum I’ve seen about the ’Cats. The Baseline is great, but not a whole lot of traffic there, unfortunately.

Which is the reason I wrote the whole “Can Bobcats afford sweep” thread in the first place. All it took was being knocked out the playoffs by probably the eventual NBA champions and everything the team accomplished this season turned into nothing all of the sudden. Charlotte fans are full of crap and are un-supportive of anything not ending up in a championship.

Somebody's close family member was mangled by a mountain bobcat years ago...
Wtf was that all about? Such a scathing, ruthlessly pessimistic article. Does he write articles like this all the time? Granted, he’s an excellent writer, in my humble opinion, but…way to stop by the funeral and kick over the coffin, sir…
I’ve learned in life that some people simply revel in misery. I get that (I mean, I don’t understand it, but I know that some people are just wired that way). He even takes the positives and slings mud on them (i.e. expiring contracts for trade value), and fails to even mention some of the bright sides (Derrick Brown, anyone?).
Henderson will be better. Derrick will be better. Diaw will be…awake (maybe?). Augustin will shake off the rest of his sophomore slump. We’ll retain Ray or Tyrus, if not both…I don’t see a scenario where we lose both of them. Ajinca will try to translate his D-League triple doubles into an impressive NBA stat line. Chandler will be healthy from the start. Wallace will be Wallace (the one aspect he didn’t try to trash, but only because he couldn’t). And yes, Captain Jack will still get silly techs, argue too much with the refs, while putting up 20 pts a game and looking for the open cutter.
Larry Brown will be back.
And we’ll be back in the playoffs next year to win our first franchise series, and until it doesn’t happen, no one can convince me otherwise.
Okay then!
I’m glad I’m not the only one that isn’t interested in the doomin’ and gloomin’.
Funny thing about blogs. It’s all written words, but it’s where a person can find their voice.
Last fall there were only a couple of believers. This spring there are more. Charlotte Bobcat wrote the Fanpost asking if the Bobcats can afford that sweep and this thread provides the answer. Of COURSE it would have been a bit better if the Cats had won a couple. But this thread started off because of an article trashing our team and got taken over by old-time fans, regulars, and even newbies to ROF that refuse to accept that this sweep is all the Bobcats have to offer for the future.
David moderates this blog. For whatever reason he isn’t in the most optimistic mood right now. Maybe he’s tired. Maybe he’s still bummed about the sudden end to the season. Maybe he IS a realist and he’s doing his duty by keeping it real so this blog doesn’t turn into fantasyland. The bottom line is that there are Cats fans that are worried about the future and there’s good reason for it. There are also Cats fans that are excited about the future and there’s good reason for that too.
Both groups are going to come here and every one of us is going to have a different take on the draft, the changes the team will make in the off season, and what it all means for the next season. Those differing opinions are what keeps this joint alive and vital.
Hey, we’re fans of the Charlotte Bobcats. We’re used to people talking junk. But we aren’t alone. We took it on the chin in the playoffs but it’s just the first trip of many the team is going to make.
I’ve been thinking about this. A lot of the bandwagon fans didn’t know spit about this team until a month or so ago. The first time they saw the guys in action was during that sweep. Of COURSE they’re disappointed. All they saw was that the team wasn’t ready. They weren’t there to see just how far the team had to come to get to where they did this year. They didn’t see the transformation of Ray Felton or the way Stephen Jackson revitalized the whole squad. Crash made the All Star game and they thought, “oh, Charlotte has a player.” They didn’t see the way Wallace fought and earned the respect that got him the nod. The Cats made the playoffs and they thought, “oh, Charlotte has a team again.” When the team didn’t produce for them it was a bunch of strangers losing on the court.. They saw the bodies that lost, but didn’t get to know the heart that got them there in the first place.
Those fans are gone until the next time. Their loss, not ours.
The trash talkers and fair-weather fans were all wrong about the Bobcats a year ago and they’re wrong now. We don’t have to listen to them. They’re entitled to post their opinions here just as we’re entitled to refute them and ROF has room for both.
I for one am a stubborn SOB. The Cats may turn into a hot mess over the next 4 months. It’s all good, because they’ll turn it back around sooner rather than later and I’ll be here when they do. It’s good to know there are more people like me here now than there were a year ago.

Naysayer's are always gonna say no...
but we will just have to prove them wrong again like we did this year…and as far handicapped salary cap situation is concerned I’m not too worried b/c there are gonna be lots of teams interested in our expiring contracts to acquire likes of Melo, Tony Parker, David West, JR Smith and bunch more.
