SB Nation Lakers Blog: Silver Screen and Roll

Welcome to the Queen City, Charlotte, North Carolina, where Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers will play against the Charlotte Bobcats. Hello, I'm Kevin Harlan. Beside me, Doug Collins. The third member of our broadcast team, Cheryl Miller, will join us later. Doug, the Lakers waged an epic battle with the Miami Heat last night. Can the struggling Bobcats take advantage?

Tonight is a turning point

Tonight decides whether the Bobcats are a playoff-worthy team. It decides whether the numerous swaps that have been made to the team this year will pay off, or if it is high time we develop what talent isn’t seeing any PT (Hendo and Derr-Devil to be specific)

Keys to watch for:
Is Felton sticking to his role last year of playing “horri-ball”, or does he come out as the team leader that he claimed to be a little earlier in the season. You remember, the Felton that was shooting only when he had to, and was making those shots, otherwise he was actually making plays.

Is Jax on board? Is he making love to pressure? Is he playing his heart out? He usually is, so ths one will be hard to notice.

Is “Predator” with us tonight? THe bloodthirsty beast who was playing out of this world…you remember that guy, right? The pre all star guy that was also pre hamstrig injury. The double-double guy that was scary to play against.

T2 – Are you the guy who “just wants to play” tonight, or are you the guy who doesn’t get a foul call and comes down court and commits a stupid foul of your own? We need to see the smart, saavy guy who played that first game after the trade.

Theo – um…keep doing what you’re doing and thank you for it

Will we have another guy to play center? Who knows

Diaw – Non-chalant or the guy we loved last season? Let’s not air ball any shots tonight.

Graham…get lost

Hendo and Brown, pester the crap out of LB

LB…Use your bench…That’s what they are there for. The starters are burnt…put faith in the bench and they will put faith in you.

See you guys in a little bit.

Extra Pass
Play all 48 minutes
Play the right way

OK guys, here is the checklist for the night…

Remember…make the extra pass…not the extra 30 passes…

Roll call

It’s nice to be back in the QC and be able to watch on tv although it won’t last long

Which part won't last long

Being back in the QC or watching it on TV?

by andrewlail76 on Mar 5, 2010 7:07 PM EST up reply actions

well both

I leave to go back to school in a week and I will be leaving behind sportsouth and bobcats games on tv

just get the ticket validated. alas not anymore, they wisened up. probably cuz they kept noticing some kid going to brixx every cats gameday with a bunch of bobcats posters and signs in his trunk

Good evening.

I would first like to thank Andrew for nicely ripping off – I mean providing a summation – of our discussions earlier today. I’m loaded for bear and if the Bobcats know what’s good for them they won’t piss me off any further tonight.

by Ourdaywillcome on Mar 5, 2010 7:15 PM EST reply actions

Come on now...

I didn’t rip it all off…
Some of it is my insight

I cn provide some post-dinner feedback

But it doesn’t tend to be very articulate and has been known to peel paint.

Well it didn’t draw anyone out of the woodwork…yet

by andrewlail76 on Mar 5, 2010 7:19 PM EST up reply actions

My guess

is he’s busy keeping something warm.

by Ourdaywillcome on Mar 5, 2010 7:21 PM EST up reply actions

Maybe kobe has one of those nights

where he shoots a little above 50% in the first half, then in the 2nd half he gets overconfident about his shooting, takes wilder and wilder shots

Lemonade was a popular drink and it still is.

by Ben Swanson on Mar 5, 2010 7:15 PM EST reply actions

I wouldn't mind an 80 point night from Kobe

As long as the rest of the Lakers are held to .001% shooting.

by Ourdaywillcome on Mar 5, 2010 7:17 PM EST up reply actions

the one thing I find I like about Ratliff getting dunked on

He’s not afraid to be posterized if it means contesting the dunk

by Ben Swanson on Mar 5, 2010 7:17 PM EST reply actions

Rumors went around tonight that Chandler might play.

As a result, the Laker were late coming out to the court.
It wasn’t fear, they just needed a few minutes to contain their laughter.

by Ben Swanson on Mar 5, 2010 7:18 PM EST reply actions

oh sh-- Chandler's in!

That’s why Ratliff looked so concerned about getting that 2nd foul

The countdown begins.

Step right up and place your bets….
At what point in the game will Chandler get into foul trouble, reinjure himself in some way, or just plain stink up the joint so badly that both teams will require oxygen?

by Ourdaywillcome on Mar 5, 2010 7:23 PM EST reply actions

WHATS HAPPENIN?!?!?!

Sorry I’m late. Those boos for Fisher were ridiculous.

by maverick24 on Mar 5, 2010 7:26 PM EST reply actions

Well well well

According to Stephanie the team is doing some infighting. It’s nice to know THEY are aware of their problems at least. It indicates there is still some life in that locker room.

by Ourdaywillcome on Mar 5, 2010 7:26 PM EST reply actions

I agree.

It seemed too likely that we would give up. Different year, different team.

by maverick24 on Mar 5, 2010 7:27 PM EST up reply actions

Nope maybe he's really healthy?

Lemonade was a popular drink and it still is.

by Ben Swanson on Mar 5, 2010 7:29 PM EST up reply actions

I certainly hope so.

I’m running out of jokes for him. HE SHAVED THE BEARD?!

by maverick24 on Mar 5, 2010 7:30 PM EST up reply actions

I'm of the opinion

the Chandler has been healthy for over 2 weeks. It’s just that it’s really hard to diagnose sloth.

by Ourdaywillcome on Mar 5, 2010 7:30 PM EST up reply actions

This could be positive

At the very least we have two big bodies instead of just Theo

by Stevarino on Mar 5, 2010 7:31 PM EST up reply actions

Wow

I see some life and energy from the roster tonight

by Stevarino on Mar 5, 2010 7:29 PM EST reply actions

I believe he could contribute positively

I mean, even at the D-League leve, you don’t get a triple double by accident.

by Stevarino on Mar 5, 2010 7:32 PM EST up reply actions

Exactly.

I was really excited when he started to bulk up and play well.

by maverick24 on Mar 5, 2010 7:33 PM EST up reply actions

Taz bonked the head pretty hard there. I bet he’s seeing 3 Kobes instead of the usual 2.

by Ourdaywillcome on Mar 5, 2010 7:34 PM EST reply actions

and the usual 1/2 Derek Fisher

Lemonade was a popular drink and it still is.

by Ben Swanson on Mar 5, 2010 7:35 PM EST up reply actions

That means Derek Fisher is only a 1/4 of a player

I can roll with that

Shannon Brown

Arguably, one of the most athletic players in the league. He’s just not good at basketball.

by Stevarino on Mar 5, 2010 7:36 PM EST reply actions

This is where the Cats have gotten ugly of late.

A couple of possessions where they can’t work it inside, and they start giving up and chucking the long bomb shots from the perimeter.

by Ourdaywillcome on Mar 5, 2010 7:36 PM EST reply actions

We've got to keep our head about us.

Our roster screams athlete. No reason why we can’t use that.

Graham IS at the game though.

I caught him on the sidelines trying to sneak a peak at the Uno hand Henderson had to leave when he got the call to go into the game.

by Ourdaywillcome on Mar 5, 2010 7:48 PM EST up reply actions

I think it went down like this...

Jordan got beat by Hendo in HORSE, then it got leaked to the media (probably by Hednerson himself). Jordan, as the new owner, told LB that he can’t lose to a guy that doesn’t play. So LB had to put him in. If that’s the case, MJ +1 as owner.

by Ourdaywillcome on Mar 5, 2010 8:13 PM EST up reply actions

I really think Kobe considers it moderately insulting that a rookie’s guarding him.

by David A. Arnott on Mar 5, 2010 8:14 PM EST up reply actions

100% agreement.

It’s demeaning to one of his status.

by Ben Swanson on Mar 5, 2010 8:16 PM EST up reply actions

I really should have taken the over on Gerald Henderson’s minutes tonight. It’s not like there was any reason to think he’d sit much.

by David A. Arnott on Mar 5, 2010 8:16 PM EST reply actions

I'm surprised at no Derr-Devil min.

But still happy with Hendo. We all knew he could defend. The offense is a plus.

by maverick24 on Mar 5, 2010 8:18 PM EST reply actions

Can you imagine if Chandler was one of the guys

Truth be told,

I’m not a “leg man” at all, but if they are top notch, there’s nothing better to watch.
A buddy of mine had a hit some years ago with a song called, “Wish I had a girl That Walked Like That.”
I was with him when he wrote it and that’s what we were talking about when he got the idea.

Sorensen must rarely attend games. I see MJ sitting 3 down from the bench about 1/2 the games.

by Ft.Mill Bobcat on Mar 5, 2010 8:40 PM EST up reply actions

Wallace and Felton are prime examples this year of less is more. Do something negative on the court, and it can be far worse to the team than positive actions. Like attempting steals in baseball. I can’t remember the last time Wallace took an ill-advised three.

by David A. Arnott on Mar 5, 2010 8:36 PM EST reply actions

I don't think he will

by David A. Arnott on Mar 5, 2010 8:38 PM EST reply actions

Agreed but...

they have to be up for more than just the “big” games if they want the playoffs. They have to be just this fluid and aggressive against the New Jersey Nets of the league as they are for the Cavs and Lakers.

The Cats have GOT to rotate the ball quicker.

Even though Gerald scored the trey, he was standing wide open for a solid 6 seconds. When the defense doubles 2 players, it means there’s someone open on the weak side. You HAVE to make those passes quickly.

by Ourdaywillcome on Mar 5, 2010 8:50 PM EST reply actions

Seems to always be our weak point...
