Around SBN: Off Tackle Empire interviews Rich Rodriguez

So help save the libraries, Michael. It's a very good cause, and talk about some serious bang for the civic buck -- this would do it. If I were Jordan, I'd get out in front of this issue quickly.

This was actually linked on the Observer's main page. Three observations/comments:

1 -- For some people, the Bobcats, and even Jordan, will never be able to do enough.

2 -- Fowler didn't even have the sense to link to the PLCMC donation page.

And 3 -- If I were in a position of influence on this matter, I'd look at the library crisis as an opportunity to move all books to one or two locations and convert the rest of the viable locations to information centers, with access to internet, periodicals, and where people could order books for either purchase or borrowing.

Dude, there were quite a few comment posts

On various Bonnell articles about this same issue. Some users kept spamming the recent flow of Jordan related articles from this past week to bring up this very issue.

I totally support libraries, their missions/objectives, and books in general, and while Jordan is an easy target to pounce on to help counter this crisis, these people should be aware of the many other corporate sponsors and bigwigs that exist in Charlotte. Surely they haven’t all turned their backs on the libraries, have they? Surely some of them have resources to devote to the libraries?

How did the libraries get to this critical point? That, above all else, should be clearly understood, but as with all things in this economic crisis, things are not as simple as they appear.

Can the Bobcats and Jordan help out the libraries? Of course they can! Can they save the libraries? Not necessarily so; it takes more than just a basketball team to do so. Civic involvement from the entire community is needed, as well support from other businesses in the area. The Bobcats can help a bit, but Jordon is not going to be the savior to all of the Queen City’s problems.

I detest this Fowler guy, and the other dude who’s name escapes my mind, who at times report on Bobcats ‘news’ along with Rick Bonnell.

Observer Writers

Rick Bonnell is OK, but sometimes turns negative for sensationalism and likely because he is bored and has to churn out another story when nothing exciting has happened during a given day. He usually gets the facts right, but does miss a fact now and then. For example he has recently reported twice that the Bobcats have beat Cleveland twice this year. (It was 3 times).

Tom Sorensen’s reporting on the Bobcats isn’t as in depth. He also turns negative and sensationalizes to get readers. Sorensen misses more facts, such as when he reported that Jordan only attended 2 games last year.

Scott Fowler – As far as the Bobcats are concerned one only need to read the library article. What a joke. No further comments needed.

Mark Washburn – Thankfully he rarely writes a Bobcat’s article because when he does it is horrible. He is the worst when it comes to Bobcats reporting. His perspective is like talking to that guy a work went to two Hornets games when Alonzo played (and hasn’t been back). Washburn gets a lot of facts wrong and doesn’t really understand sports.

Sorenson

His sarcasm ruins any credibility he has when he writes about the Bobcats. Yes, sarcasm can work in an article. Just look at Rick Reilly’s works. But Tom’s doesn’t work because he is sooooo far off about the Bobcats that the sarcasm just comes off as trying to hard to be funny.

Also, I hate to think this is what will happen every time something needs to be saved

Quick, MJ! Save the parks! No, save the museums!

If every time Charlotte has a problem like the libraries, and the numnuts writing for the papers publicly ask for him to save the city, MJ will want to leave this city. Yes, MJ needs to be involved in the community (boys and girls clubs, etc), but he and his money cannot be the band-aid for the city’s mistakes. Why should Jordan save the libraries when few others donate any money or time? The city and the people are asking for too much. If people keep pleading with him to spend his money bailing out the city’s head honchos, he will leave.

And I wouldn’t blame him.

This issue reeeeks of ignorance

Libraries are in “dire straights” just like newspapers and periodicals are… Why? For the very reason we are all reading this blog. They are being replaced with virtual media. Why would kids waste their time in a Library when they can find overwhelmingly more information in their own bedrooms online? Whether it’s good or bad, propping up failing organizations will do nothing to get people to use them.

Jordan should stay far away from this one.

Otherwise known as SouthTunnel. Change is inevitable - except from a vending machine.

Wow.

Uh, Jordan isn’t obligated to help the libraries at all. WTF, Charlotte newspaper people.
Also, I thought this quote from the comments on the story was pretty funny:

as hard as it is to believe maybe there was too many libraries.

Go Rockets/Nets[CDR]/Bucks[Jennings]!

Hah yeah. And it's true

Ft. Worth has about 16 thousand more people than Charlotte. Pre-library closings, Charlotte had 8 more libraries than Ft. Worth.

LAME!!!

Obviously MJ will help in the community…but he did just buy a team with a 150mil debt and not making money. I’m sure as soon as he’s in the black…he’ll help the community more…but until he gets his ownership legs under him, let’s cool our jets on him “helping” Charlotte our.Let’s let him get our NBA team right. Maybe other pieces fall into place after that happens.

In the meantime, however, MJ needs to put his money on something important…like Playoff tickets for the RoF crew.
Every Playoff team needs its SUPERFANS at center court…preferrably behin Steve and Dell, so we can help out
