Michael Jordan's afternoon press conference: the Charlotte Bobcats' new controlling owner speaks

Video via WCNC

Quick takeaway after the jump.

Star-divide

Michael Jordan knows what he's getting into. Early in his speech, he emphasizes that he and his family are going to be involved in the Charlotte community. He's already fighting perceptions that he might be an absentee owner, and he's prepared to do "Charlotte business". He won't be in Charlotte full time, but he's telling everyone who will listen that he'll be a neighborhood guy more than a bossman who just orders locals around.

That also means, and he said it explicitly, the JordanCats joke isn't far off the mark. He's going to increase his involvement in team publicity. Now that he's the controlling owner, he's going to lend his celebrity to the team operations, whereas previously he'd mainly worked behind the scenes.

They forgot to ask MJ one thing

“Michael, if you were approached to be in the new NBA Jam, would you accept? We are all still saddened about your absence from the earlier ones”

Lemonade was a popular drink and it still is.
